Mavericks and BMD Intensity Pro

Im looking to see if anyone had compatibility issues with Mavericks using the Black Magic Design Intensity Pro desktop video card?

I am having the same issue on my iMac that was udated to Mavericks a while back and apparently I haven't tried to log and transfer anything since.
The error comes up everytime I have a my Sandisk High Speed Card in my lexar Fire Wire 800 card reader. The Log and Transfer screen pops up and it starts adding the clips and instead of populating the screen, it crashes. Mine also says FCP quit while using the canonIHL plug in, here's a screen shot of the indication.
I agree, this needs to be resolved ASAP. I'm dead in the water. The only thing I can do is transfer the raw files into a folder somewhere, then import the clips, but then to have them as ProRes files I guess I would have to use compressor before hand. I've done it before, but it never runs as smoothly without it being natively imported.

  • Premiere Pro CC and BMD Intensity Pro Video Preview issues

I know there are many people having issues and confusion surrounding video preview file formats. For the most part, I have not had major problems, except this:
I'm trying to figure out why PPro doesn't want to output video preview with certain file formats on my Intensity Pro card, specifically 720p media. See below for system specs.
For the most part, any sequence created at 1080p24 or 30 out to an HDTV (1080i and p) via HDMI plays back fine. My sequence settings will reflect the correct file format as the media within it (usually ProRes).
When I have to edit a clip that came to me as 720p24, 25, 30, etc, I drop it into a sequence, have it change the settings to match the clip, and voila, I get playback. It would choose I frame only MPEG as the video preview file format. The originating file format doesn't really matter, whether it's h.264 .mp4, or H.264 .mov, or ProRes, etc.
I've been testing this in different ways, but for the most part, as soon as I drop a 720p clip into a sequence (doesn't matter what format or res), and allow PPro to change the sequence settings to match the clip settings, I get video preview playback initially. Great! But here's the kicker, as soon as I do anything, be that I go to a different sequence that is open, click on a different window such as the source monitor, or adjust audio levels, or drop in another clip (like a custom leader I made that is ProRes 422), I immediately lose video preview. The I/O card is stuck on the last frame it was able to playback, or just black. No matter what I do, I never get the video preview back again.
If I don't allow PPro to change sequence settings to match clip settings, I don't get any playback at all.
I have created a 720p sequence, and dropped in the 720p media, which then I don't get any playback at all. I've tried to keep the video dims the same, but change the video preview dims to 1920x1080 and it won't let me.
This seems to only happen with 720p media being cross converted to 1080p for playback on a 1080p monitor. All 1080p media plays back fine, no matter what the file format is. I have tried both Blackmagic settings in the control panel (System Prefs) set to output 720p to 1080i cross conversion on and off. I still get the same behavior as described above.
    Any ideas is greatly appreciated.

Finally worked out a solution. I opened Premiere, started a dummy project, and before I imported any media, I went into Project Settings and changed the Renderer to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (CUDA). Voila - now everything works as it's supposed to. Playback is buttery-smooth, and GPU-accelerated transitions render in real-time.

  • Can I run a mxo2 mini and a BMD intensity pro on the same mac pro?

    Hi to everyone,
I have a strange question to you: Can I run a Matrox MXO2 mini and a Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro on the same Mac Pro?
That's because I find more versatile using a MXO2 with editing software (I have an AVID MC 5.5.3 and I don't want to update it to 6 yet) and I'd like to begin to use DaVinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design which, of course, functions only with their cards. My goal is to output Resolve to my FullHD CRT instrumental monitor without spending the money to upgrade AVID for now, I'm fine with 5.5.3.
I won't use them togheter but alternatively as you can easily imagine.
    thanks
    best regards,
    ginuz

  • Mavericks and Final Cut Pro 7 - Log and Transfer crashes

Hi all. I (perhaps unintelligently) upgraded to OSX Mavericks on my Mac Pro while working on a project in Final Cut Pro 7. What is good news is that FCP 7 still works for the most part. The bad news is that Log and Transfer crashes.
I have a Panasonic P2 camera and I dump video via FireWire 800. When I first click on the Log and Transfer button, nothing happens. When I click on it again, the Log and Transfer window opens, but then FCP 7 crashes.
Is there any way to get video from my P2 card into the project without Log and Transfer?
Also, would any of these options work?
Trash preferences (working to figure out how to do that on Mavericks)
Worst case, re-format and re-install Lion (Don't have much time to do that)
Please let me know if you have a work around or a fix for this. I need to have this solved TODAY.
I appreciate your help in advance.

  • Mavericks and DVD Studio Pro

Is there a way to install Mountain Lion on a partition I created?  I made a 101GB partition on my 750GB H/D.  I tried holding the C button down on startup but all I got was the panic screen telling me I had to shut down again. Am I doing something wrong or is there another solution that is eluding me?  I want to regain full functionality of DVD Studion Pro, that I lost when I installed Mavericks.

I just got around to upgrading to Mavericks and thought I'd add my 2 cents' worth. The software still works, with 3 exceptions, two of which already popped up in Mountain Lion. 1) DVD's burned within Studio Pro seem to be fine, but they always stall about 3/4 through. The work-around is to print the DVD folder from Toast Titanium. My guess is that StudioPro can't keep up with the disk drive. 2) It is impossible to reset the standard size for subtitles, which is much too large. That's because the change font dialogue box in preferences brings up Font Book, which always crashes the program! Workaround is to convert stl subtitles to text and insert instructions above the subtitles for fontsize, font, and color. This overrides the presets, and you'll find spruce-micro formats in the manual. 3) The new problem, as I've seen reported here, is that pull down menus for changing buttom colors are now blank. This is less of a pain if you write out the order of the colors that used to be there. To save you time, here they are: red, black, blue, white, pink, aquamarine, light green, yellow, magenta, orange, purple, green, dark blue, light purple, olive, brown-red. Hope this helps!

  • Maverick and my mac pro

As we approach the release of Maverick , I was wondering if my Mac Pro early 2008 running now 10.8.5 will be compatible with Maverick? Anyone out there has an idea?
    Thanks

Apple has been mum on the topic and it would be speculation to even guess, but I would regardless be looking for a new graphic card for your system even for running Mountain Lion.
And with 10.8.x there are more choices but the cheapest best bet is the ATI 5770 $249 still.
The other thing would be an SSD boot drive, and dual boot any new OS with a clean install and keep 10.8.5 alone as is or cloned if or until any of the "1.0" wrinkles are ironed out.

  • Scanning Issue with Maverick and Office Jet Pro 8600

Just wanted to add my voice to the numerous problem reports.  Specifically:
    1)  I could scan just fine until I upgraded to Maverick (Mac OS 10.9)
    2)  to address the problem, I downloaded the latest HP drivers for 10.9-didn't help
    3)  Tried to use the separate HP Scan application-no luck; couldn't fine the computer (even though I have been printing regularly)
    4)  Based on the HP problem solution posting (which seems a bit out of date), tried to uninstall the software and reinstall; the uninstall would not complete, although it did delete all of my printers.
It appears that it is finally time to abandon HP for printers, if they can't keep up with Apple's releases.

    Hi amaltz,
I understand you are having an issue with the scan software working with Mavericks. I can't help you with this. My suggestion is to completely remove all HP software from the computer and reinstall. Follow the instructions below to resolve the issue.
    Scrub
Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
Hold down Control, Option and Command
While holding the three buttons down, Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
Click the Apple icon (     ), and then click  System Preferences.
In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
Right-click (or Ctrl +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type the correct Name  and Password.
Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol.
Repair Disk Permissions (I know many of you have done this but because we have now done a scrub it is good measure to ensure non of your permissions differ)
On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    Double-click Disk Utility.
Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
    Restart the computer.
Now you will have a fresh start and be able to reinstall the software. Please let me know if this resolves the issue you are experiencing. If it does not, I will gladly follow up.
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • I downloaded mavericks and now mac pro takes a minute to start up

How do I fix this???  Downloading Mavericks has slowed my start up to over a minute!

    OSU Beavers,
it isn’t Apple’s responsibility to keep track of what your software needs to run; that’s your responsibility. For example, anyone who relies upon PowerPC software running under Snow Leopard should not accept an OS upgrade, because no version of OS X after Snow Leopard supports Rosetta, which is what allows the execution of PowerPC software under Snow Leopard.
Which of your drivers did the people at the Apple store tell you were outdated under Mavericks?

  • HT204384 After I installed Os X Mavericks in my Macbook Pro, it stops readding the SD cards. I used diferent brands of cards and got all the updates for the Mac, but the problem wasn't solved.

    Hi!
I made the update to Os X Mavericks and my MacBook Pro 13' is having some isues; the SD slot card is not readding the cards. Sometimes, when I have a couples of hours using the lap, when I open the finder or any file, there are only the name of the files, but not images and I can open then even if I selected. Then I need to restar the lap to open them.

    Reset PRAM.
Shut it down all the way.

Listen for the "startup chime" to sound three times, and release the keys.

  • Premiere pro CC14, Blackmagic Intensity Pro

Im in the process of changing from FCP ver7 using a BMD Intensity Pro card (lowest priced BMD device) to Ppr cc14.  Would love to hear if anyone is using that card with Premiere Pro CC 14 and either running
    Mavericks or Mountain Lion??
    any issues?

wouldn't Premiere Pro limit your color bit depth to 8 and your BMD be capable of a larger bit depth?
that is my thoughts, just limiting your capabilities is my guess

The first thing you should do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. How you do that depends on the model. Look it up on this page to see what version was originally installed.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc, which you can get from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. I suggest you install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. If you don't have the media, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
Once booted from the disc or in Internet Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive, which is what you should do.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
You should then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. If you want to upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, buy it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Apple customer service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able toauthorize it under your ID. In that case, contact iTunes Support.

  • Mac Pro (2013) with Mavericks and Mac Office Excel

Using MAC Excel VBA, and obviously with my personally written Excel VBA application, I have discovered that
in a multi-Workbook Excel app, I am unable to "Open" additional Workbooks (xlsm-type) successfully
from any Workbook OTHER THAN with the very first Workbook opened in the app. In other words, if my app needs
2 or more Workbooks opened at any one time, only the 1st Workbook opened can "open" any other workbooks
    successfully.
If the 2nd or any other Workbook in my app tries to execute an "open workbook" procedure of its own, no Err is thrown
and no indication is given that its "open Workbook" statement did not work, but the program/routine just continues as if
nothing was wrong. Additionally, all statements pertaining to the "not-opened" Workbook don't do a thing also
(i.e., .Clear, .ClearContents, .Range, .Copy, etc. don't work and don't throw errors).
On the other hand, when I restructure my Excel application such that the very first opened Workbook also "opens"
all the other Workbooks needed in my entire application, then my Excel application works great, even when I call
other subroutines that don't include "open workbook" statements but do include opject references and database
statements for whichever already-opened Workbook it needs. In this case also, all the final "close workbook"
statements must be properly placed in the first workbook's code and eventually executed at the end, and the entire
    app works appropriately and successfully.
My question is, is it an Excel rule that ONLY the first workbook opened is allowed to open additional Workbooks, or
is this a MAC Excel limitation only, or is there a MAC Excel or VBA setting that solves this situation? I have done VBA
debug tracing in my app code to "prove" my point over and over here, and have found nothing that solves my delimma.
Maybe there's an additional workbook "open" parameter that might help, but I haven't discovered it yet. Note that
I am openinfg all my Workbooks with ReadOnly:= false
Note: I am using a Mac Pro (2013) 6-core, Mavericks, and Excel 11 VBA. Everything else on my entire system works great.
Thank you for any suggestions. I have used Windows Excel for many years very successfully and don't recall ever
encountering this situation with Workbooks before.

    18. Can I connect a Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt port on my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac?
Yes. A Mini DisplayPort display or a display connecting with a Mini DisplayPort to VGA, DVI, or HDMI adapter will work just like it was connecting to a Mini DisplayPort connector when plugging in directly to the Thunderbolt connector on your Apple computer. Click here for more information on Mini DisplayPort connections and adapters.
    19. How do I connect my Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to my Thunderbolt-equipped Mac when I have other Thunderbolt devices connected?
When connecting a Mini DisplayPort display or a display using a Mini DisplayPort adapter to a Thunderbolt peripheral (except as described in question 14), make sure the display is connected at the end of the Thunderbolt chain. You can use only one Mini DisplayPort device in the Thunderbolt chain.
Note: Systems with more than one Thunderbolt port, like an iMac, can have more than one Mini DisplayPort monitor or monitor connected with a Mini DisplayPort adapter connected as each Thunderbolt port can support one Mini DisplayPort display.
