Mavericks and loading finder windows.

So I recently updated to mavericks and everytime I startup my machine and go to open finder from my HD icon (top right) it takes ages to load the files inside (applications, library etc), really annoying!
So I found out if i turn off my open network (BT) so nothing is conected when turning on the machione and opening up the HD I don't have the same problem and all my files are there in the window....strange???
All of this never happened before my upgrade to Mavericks...?
Anyone have the same problem or know why this is happeing?? or even better how to fix it??

The 10.9.3 update fixed the issue, at least for now! Glad I could have this conversation with myself. Hopefully this will come in handy to someone with a similar issue in the future.

  • Attaching files from Safari and FF- Finder window takes forever to pop up

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a strange problem with my Finder. When I am in Safari or FF (Using 10.6.3) and I click the button to select a file to upload on any website, it take the finder window about 20-30 seconds to pop up. This happens every time I want to navigate to select a file. I get the spinning beach ball and the Finder window finally pops up generally 20 seconds later. I checked this in another user account on my machine and it has the same problem. I don't think it's a Safari or FF problem, as it's doing it in both browsers---anyone have any idea why it would take forever for the Finder selection window to pop up?

HI and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
Go to ~/Library/Preferences and move the com.apple.finder.plist file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
The tilde "~" character represents your home folder.
Since the problem happens in more then account I'm not sure if trashing the .plist file will help but won't hurt to try.
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Empty Cache. When you are done with that...
From the Safari Menu Bar, click Safari / Reset Safari. Select the top 5 buttons and click Reset.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem. Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
anyone have any idea why it would take forever for the Finder selection window to pop up?
    Try repairing disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and *restart your Mac.*

In Snow Leopard the Spotlight access is exactly the same. The only search field is in the Safari toolbar, and this has been amalgamated with the address field - as I said above, just type the search terms in the address field:

  • I just down loaded X Mavericks and cannot find my documents, mails, contacts, calendar, photos ,etc. Anymore.  How can I solve this problem?

Je viens de télécharger X Mavericks et je n'ai plus accès à mes documents, calendrier, mails, photos, musique, etc. Comment les récupérer. Par ailleurs je n'arrive plus à rentrer dans mon ordinateur.  Merci.

  • I want to downgrade to mavericks and cannot find os x download anywhere

I want to downgrade from Yosemite to Mavericks I did not do a time machine backup before I upgraded to Yosemite.
My mac book is so new I have no problem doing a clean install there are no personal files than can't be easily replaced.
I cannot find a copy of OS X Mavericks anywhere. Where can I get Mavericks

It's no longer available. You need to do the following:
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Mavericks and app dim window

Just upgraded to Mavericks. Now any open app window goes inactive after 5 sec. Any thoughts or help?

If you're interested in posting some additional details of the application(s) and of what's happening with the processes around app nap or whatever is happening, then somebody here might recognize what's going on.
If the Finder ⌘I "Get Info" path to disable App Nap doesn't prevent App Nap for the particular application, then there's an OS X bug.  Apple Support has probably already led you through this sequence, so it would seem that there's either an OS X bug lurking or there's something else going on with the particular application(s) in use, or there's possibly an application bug or application incompatibility with 10.9 Mavericks.
You're quite right, too.   Should the particular application(s) and/or OS X no longer provide your computing requirements,  then a platform migration is certainly expected and appropriate.

  • I bought macbook pro at cash america used and loaded with windows 7 ultimate by boot camp.My questions is it has mountain lion loaded but original ower has name with password so how can I reload so I can sign on as administrator for downloads and upgrades

I bought a 13 inch macbook pro9.2 at Cash America with windows 7 Ultimate with boot camp program.
The Mac op sytem has Mountain Lion installed but the previous ower has his name and password attached to it and can only use as guest.
My question is how do I get around this to be administrator to reload software so i can use mountain Lion, and not loose the windows op .

If you reformat the partition that contain Mountain Lion and reinstall Mountain Lion, it should not effect the Windows pratition.
Have said that I suggest you backup everything you might want to save just in case.

  • HT5891 os x mavericks and bootcamp for windows 7 64 bit

I am currently running Win 7 64-bit in Bootcamp on my OS X 10.8 and it works great. I am connected via fire wire to my old DELL 2007WFP Display and this is allowing my MacBook Pro Retina to really act as a workstation for Revit/Acad 2014.  Questions: will Mavericks be compatible with my current Bootcamp setup?  If not, what version of Bootcamp IS compatible? Will Mavericks preclude me from using my existing second display, as it looks like the mirroring is all wireless with this OS upgrade.  Thanks!

    1st question: yes
    2nd question: no

  • 'save as' finder window settings and size (on mac)

    Hi there ~
Whenever saving/downloading any type of file from any firefox tab, and the 'save as' window opens and I choose where I want the file to be downloaded to, the finder window columns are really tight and narrow, cutting off the folder names so I constantly have to stretch out that first column so I can see the folder names .. this only happens in firefox and the finder window is always squooshed, even if I adjust it and then close/relaunch firefox .. how can I permanently set the finder window settings to avoid having to manually adjust it each time?
    thanks

Probably not the only one... the OS 9 Finder way did slow things down a bit. But it may be a helpful feature for some. Best if you could activate or not. You can file a feature request here Mac OS X Feedback

  • AppleScript That Saves Finder Window Size and Location

I wrote the following AppleScript to position and size Finder windows, but the Finder doesn't "remember" the settings the next time I open the windows.
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
make new Finder window to disk "Hard Drive"
set toolbar visible of Finder window 1 to false
set current view of Finder window 1 to icon view
clean up Finder window 1 by name
    set position of Finder window 1 to {30, 55}
    set bounds of Finder window 1 to {30, 55, 400, 625}
make new Finder window to folder " Files" of disk "Hard Drive"
set current view of Finder window 1 to icon view
set toolbar visible of Finder window 1 to false
clean up Finder window 1 by name
    set position of Finder window 1 to {410, 55}
    set bounds of Finder window 1 to {410, 55, 975, 455}
    close Finder window 1
    close Finder window 1
    end tell
How do I make it so the Finder will remember the location and position?

    Hello
Here is a script that I use daily.
The code used to force the Finder to "remember" the window position seems a bit tricky. If I remember well I found it on MacScripter.
As far as the Finder is not corrected, we must use this kind of trickery.
    --[SCRIPT]
    my commun(choose folder)
    on open (sel)
    my commun(sel's item 1)
    end open
    (* set bounds to {10, 50, 800, 600} *)
    on commun(F)
set F to F as Unicode text
    tell application "Finder"
if class of item F is document file then set F to (container of item F) as Unicode text
if ((class of item F) is folder) then my set_bounds(F, {10, 50, 800, 600}, false)
    end tell
    end commun
    on set_bounds(F, b, toolbar)
    local ao, i, lesFichiers, fichier
tell application "Finder" to tell folder F
    set lesFichiers to every file
    repeat with fichier in lesFichiers
    my saveImageWithItselfAsIcon(fichier as alias)
    end repeat
    tell container window
set ao to class is Finder window
    open
set current view to icon view
set properties of its icon view options to ¬
    {arrangement:arranged by name, icon size:128}
    set bounds to b
    set toolbar visible to toolbar
set toolbar visible to not toolbar
    set toolbar visible to toolbar
    if not ao then close
end tell -- to container window
repeat with i in (get folders)
my set_bounds((i as alias), b, toolbar)
    end repeat
end tell -- to folder F then to Finder
    end set_bounds
    on saveImageWithItselfAsIcon(F)
    tell application "Image Events"
    launch
    try
    tell (open F)
    try
save with icon -- save iconimagefile with itself as icon
    end try
    close
    end tell
    end try
    end tell
    end saveImageWithItselfAsIcon

  • Safari 7.0 crashes when opening the finder-window

    hey
since I installed mavericks, Safari always crashes (rainbow-wheel and hang on), when I try to save or load or even print something and the finder-window opens.
    I cannot select any files...
I already deactivated all extensions and plug-ins and deleted the ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db - unfortunately no improvement.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for the help!!!

  • Finder Window & File Sharing

    Hi,
Every time someone sends me a file using iChat, when the file is done downloading to my desktop a finder window automatically opens. Is there a preference or a way to make it so the finder window does not open when it is done downloading?
    Thanks,
    paul

Thanks for replying to my post.
I agree. I think that is just the way it works. It is the same as when I connect to another computer on my local network and the finder window automatically pops open.

  • Finder window not showing

After upgrading to Lion, I am no longer able to use cmd+Tab to go to the Finder windows. However, when I am shifting between spaces, I am able to see all the finder windows in the background. SImilarly, if I am using expose, I can see all the Finder windows, but am unable to click and navigate to them. Any thoughts? I am no Power user. So, pardon my ignorance.
    Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem of invisible finder windows on a Mac Book Pro.
    Shortly:
I cannot open any finder window (to access files and folders) in any way after a Mac Book reboot.
Tried by clicking a finder icon in a Dock
Tried by clicking a New Finder Window menu
Summary of other indicies of the problem
The problem of the invisible finder windows has appeared after an upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion 10.7.2
The problem still persists in the same manner after an upgrade to the latest Lion 10.7.3
The finder window shortly shows up when sliding between "desktops" when using the "three finger scroll gesture", but it is not manipulable, and disappears when the screen settles on the next "desktop".
But Finder knows about all its open windows even though they are not not visible on a desktop. All windows are listed as an items inside the Finder Window menu. But clicking and of that window items has no effect ..... the related window still does not appear.
This problem appears after a reboot of the Mac Book ..... when the Mac Book is powered up and Mac OS X is freshly launched.
But ..... in the Dock ..... When I change the Option state ("All Desktops", "This Desktop", "None" values) in any way, all invisible finder windows suddenly appear. After that action opening and closing all other finder windows works well ..... until the next reboot of the Mac Book.
The problem appeares only within my Standard User login account (Czech language). It does not appear within an Admin User login account (English language). Opening and closing finder window works well within an Admin User login account from the beginning without any problem. I do not know, whether it is related to languages or not
I have performed Disk Permission Verifications several times, but without any effect.
I have also deleted the "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist" file several time and also without any effect ..... I have been deleting from a Terminal of the Admin User login account when Standard User login account is logged off ..... and of course I have deleted the file related to the Standard User login account.
Thank you very much for some usefull hint.
    With my best regards
