Mavericks and MacMini - after sleep mode windows resized and glued to left upper corner

Hi!
I have MacMini and HDMI monitor. When I go to bed, I use sleep mode and off monitor using power button (I don't like standby light). When I woke up, I press on my touchpad to wake up my MacMini, after that I stand up and turning on monitor. All works fine, until I installed Mavericks. Now, after turning on, all windows changed size to very small and glued to left upper corner. I can't resize or move window. Only shutdown app can help. But, I can't shutdown Finder, I need reboot MacMini. It's very annoying.
As I understand, this problem appear, when I wake up MacMini before turning monitor on. When I turned on monitor and after that woke up MacMini, windows don't change his sizes.
What can I do to solve this problem?

This issue is driving me insane. I lock my computer a couple of times a day as I go to meeting and what not. Everytime either Outlook or VMWare or Chrome will be screwed up when I awake it from sleep. I have to kill the app and start it back up again or I can't get it out of its weird "docked" mode. Basically the application window will be nearly off the screen. I can move it on the screen but the caption will be off screen still and I will not be able to size the window at all. It really messes VMWare's mind up when this happens.
I wanted Mavericks as it was supposed to fix multiple monitor issues but it has made it worse. Very sorry I upgraded. I hope they fix it in the next bug patch. I just cuss at the stupid thing when I wake it.
MacBook Pro 16g of memory with external 24" monitor via HDMI -> DVI connector. Laptop is primary monitor on the left, external monitor is on the right. Mavericks is in the doghouse just below both of them.

  • Wireless Adapter permanently disabled after sleep mode - Windows 7 64 bit

    Hello,
    Info:
Laptop: 2014 Macbook Pro running Bootcamp (dual boot...not a VM) with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Network Adapter: Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter
    Driver version: 6.30.223.215
Issue: My broadcom 802.11ac wireless adapter becomes permanently disabled when waking from sleep mode. It requires a restart in order to become enabled. If I try to manually re-enable it, I get a message saying "Enabling..." -> "Enabled!" but after this message the device still says Disabled and the wireless still won't connect to anything. This issue is very reproducible. Occurs both under battery power and when plugged in.
What have I tried?: Tried disabling the "Allow windows to disable this device to save power" under power management, which didn't work. Tried updating driver but Windows Update says the driver is up to date. I was able to find a newer version (6.30.223.227) but I can only find it hosted on Russian websites which makes me a little suspicious.

Many thanks to chemnerd1's hints - saved me going mad.
My problem was that the wifi worked perfectly until connected to a Thunderbolt display - then the wifi was permanently disabled (nothing would enable it; changing driver, changing wifi channel, uninstalling and reinstalling wifi, nothing worked). As you can imagine I was very disapointed after spending a fortune on the Thunderbolt display (brilliant kit) and then finding that I maybe only have wired internet available!
Definately, Zone Alarm was the problem (maybe other firewalls cause the same /similar problem).
    My solution was -
uninstalled Zone Alarm (safe mode not required)
reboot with Thunderbolt display connected (checked that wifi now working)
reinstall Zone Alarm (important that Thunderbolt display is still connected)
reboot - checked and wifi still working perfectly - wonderful
I have to confess that I was initially blaming Apple for the problem. I did loads of searches to try and solve this and a lot of links ended with conclusions that Apple doesn't care. Well in this case it wasn't Apple's fault.

  • Streaming audio from my IPAD to my Apple TV from Rhapsody application.  when Apple TV go into Screen Saver mode, about 5 minutes after that it stops playing the Audio Stream and goes into Sleep mode.

I am Streaming audio from my IPAD to my Apple TV from Rhapsody application.  when Apple TV go into Screen Saver mode, about 5 minutes after that it stops playing the Audio Stream and goes into Sleep mode.  I am using the Optical Out from the Apple TV to my receiver, the Apple TV is hard Wired to the Network, the IPAD is Wirelessly attached to the network (it continues to play the Audio Stream).  When the Apple TV is turned back on it resumes playing once I manual select it for output from the IPAD.  All device are on current releases of software.  I have no Video hooked up to the Apple TV.  How do I correct this?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Touchsmart 520-1047c Mouse and Keyboard will not work after sleep mode

I have an issue which I need some help with. When my computer goes to sleep the wireless mouse and keyboard will not work unless I restart, however each one will wake the system up but will not operate after that. I have tried just making the display go to sleep, both go to sleep but that makes no difference same issue occurs. The only work around I have found is going into the power settings and turning the sleep mode off for booth the computer and display. This does not solve the problem it just masks it. New batteries, unplugged and replugged the dongle, updated the bios and all drivers. Don't know what else to try. Anybody know how to fix this? Thank you in advance for your help.

  • Yosemite upgrade: function keys no longer work, no keyboard lights and have to sign in twice after sleep mode.  Anybody else having these problems?

    Hi,
Since I did the Yosemite 'upgrade' last week I have been having problems with my MacBook Pro that never happened before.  The most frustrating problems involve my keyboard which doesn't light up (checked my settings and they are correct) and the top row of function keys don't do anything so I can't adjust the volume, brightness, etc.  Then if my screen goes into sleep mode, when I wake it back up I have to sign back in twice - I never had to sign in at all after sleep mode before.
I'm finding that in order to get it working properly I am having to completely shut down and start up again but when the keyboard problems are happening I can't get anything on the apple dropdown to work either (i.e. shut down, restart, etc) so I can only shut down by pressing and holding the on/off button.
I've never had problems with my Macbook before and feel like Apple have completely ruined it in one update!  I've had a look through other posts on here but can't find anybody else having these problems so I would be really grateful if anyone could help me and offer me some advice on how to sort it out.
    Thanks!

  • Hello. My mac pro early 2008 restarts after sleep mode and it works slower. I tested it with apple hardwear test and it seems to be ok. Thank you.

Hello. My mac pro early 2008 restarts after sleep mode and it works slower. I tested it with apple hardwear test and it seems to be ok. Thank you.

    Try this:
clone your system and repair it with Disk Warrior instead
Or try a clean test system install on another drive
A must: SmcFanControl 2.2 - a mere 400 rpm extra to keep air cooling up
Try to run w/o externals. MyBook included.
Is that a 7200.11 1TB? they had a lot of issues.
Run AHT off your OEM DVD.
2008 had to have EFI and SMC updates to deal with freezes on wake from sleep, and like all models, high inrush current.  Hopefully you have a UPS and is 1500VA unit.
When you do hard restart from power button, you almost certainly add more directory errors and to files requiring immediate attention to repair and rebuild the directory; and to scan and repair and delete cache and temp files and folders. A must. Invest in bootable backups SuperDuper along with Disk Warrior (or TechTool Pro 6, maybe Drive Genius 3 but I'd rate that #3).
TimeMachine has its own bad habits, especially with Green drives and some externals.
Try to rule out everything and then add back one at a time.
And it may just be time to replace the 8800, very common, a couple threads this week, and it is 3 yrs old.  Might want ATI 5870 or 5770.

I usually then restart the computer, the sound of turning the computer on is heard and then it is working perfectly...however since last night I tried to restart it, the sound of turning the computer on was heard at a lower level of volume, but the black screen is still there...I have disconnected the computer, taken the battery of the MBP reinsert it, plugged it and turned it on. It worked once, but it is no longer working...PLEASE HELP!!!!!! SOON!!!! I have projects to turn in in a couple of hours.
By the way I have the Snow Leopard OS system

  • No video after sleep mode.

Brand new home built system (all new components unless noted otherwise) running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium on the following hardware:
    MSI X58 Pro-E motherboard,
    Intel Core i7-920 (2.66) CPU,
    Enermax PRO82+ 525W powersupply,
    Sapphire ATI HD5670 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E video,
    8GB Corsair 1333MHz RAM,
WD Velociraptor 150GB 10,000 RPM boot drive,
WD 500GB Caviar Black for file storage,
    Plextor DVD-RW,
    CoolerMaster case.
    Older Viewsonic VP2030B monitor,
    Older Microsoft Desktop 6000 V2 keyboard/mouse.
With standard Windows 7 power saving features enabled, the following
    intermittent problems occur:
After the system has gone into sleep mode, the video card provides no signal to the monitor. Moving the mouse or touching keys on the keyboard obviously bring the system back out of sleep mode, but no video signal is received. Unplugging the DVI-D
cable from the card results in the Windows sound indicating a change. Plugging it back in, results in a Windows sound indicating the change. This happens when you unplug one end of the cable, it doesn't matter if it is at the monitor end or the video card
end - as long as the other end is of course still plugged in. The only resolution to this "no video" state is to reboot the computer with the power or reset button.
On some occasions when turning the PC on, there is no video signal. The system boots properly (although the BIOS screen takes about 15 seconds to appear - something MSI says is OK), and can be shut down with the correct keyboard sequence. The monitor
runs through VGA, DVI-A and DVI-D, but no signal is ever received so it goes into standby mode.
When the computer boots properly, usually while it is still loading Outlook (which is set to start automatically), the screen goes completely blank for 5 or more seconds, then comes back on and the monitor menu indicates that it is running at the correct
resolution, and then the video works correctly from there on in - unless it goes to sleep.
On some occasions, when recovering from a "no video after sleep mode" incident, everything on the screen has been moved towards the upper left side of the screen. The Outlook window which is normally quite large (80%) and centred on the screen has been reduced
in size to about 50% and shoved into the top left corner. Also, the 4 gadgets that normally run vertically along the right side of the screen have been moved up and towards the middle of the screen, one or two of them often overlap others.
    Things I have done/tried:
    All Windows 7 updates,
    All motherboard BIOS updates,
All video card drivers and software updates from ATI,
    Replaced the DVI-D cable,
Uninstalled the video card and drivers, and moved the card to a different PCI-E slot,
Replaced the video card with another Sapphire ATI HD5450 card (temporarily).
Sapphire thinks it's a hardware problem with the original card, but since temporarily replacing it with another card, the problems continue, so I doubt that is the issue. (Plus I have to pay $25 to ship the apparently defective - under warranty card - back
    to them.)
These problems have happened intermittently since the system was built in January 2010 and they seem to be quite random, sometimes not happening for weeks, other times happening every few days. Sometimes the system is in sleep mode for 1/2 hour and it happens,
other times it is in sleep mode for hours and it happens (or doesn't).
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi again,
OK, I finally got around to trying this. I still have to check if that actually fixed it, but I managed to get into the "Factory" OSD screen.
I had my system running, disconnected my new monitor and plugged in the flaky old Viewsonic. I then:
    1. Depressed and held down the #2 button, then depressed and held down the Power button,
    2. Almost immediately the amber power light turned-on, the backlight turned on and the output image from the PC showed up.
    3. The On Screen Display (OSD) for all the monitor setting came up (at the bottom of the screen instead of the middle where it normally is), and underneath the Main Menu window in the OSD, along the bottom of the overall OSD window, the word "Factory" appears
in the middle between the control button keys (#1 for exit, and #2 for enter). (It's not normally there.)
    4. Using the down arrow key on the face of the monitor, I highlighted the "Factory" menu item, pressed the #2 key and voula! there was a whole new simple white text on bright blue background window, which among all sorts of settings included "Factory Reset"
    (which is the default selection).
    5. I pressed #2 again to accept and it was done.
All that is left is to do is some user testing to see if the monitor behaves as new.
Additional informtion: in the top of the "Factory" menu it reads: "LOVP AU Ver.0.36"
I took photos of everything and will post them on my Flickr account. To find them go to wwww.flickr.com, click on the search button, then on the next screen click on the People tab, enter my name and click search.
    Thanks again for the advice.

  • Ipod classic wont start up or reset after sleeping mode

Hi. I've just got a new iPod Classic 160Gb, one week old. Everything is fine except that it won't turn on after sleep mode is on. I cant do the restart. The iPod somehow does not response to the menu+start buttons at the same time. It however wakes to live when I plug it to the computer. But when not in use and after it enters sleeping mode I still cannot turn it on. The only option again is to plug it to the computer. This is not right...?? It has the latest software and I have reset to original setup through iTunes.
Anyone know how I could solve this problem? Could this be a hardware fault?
    Robban22

Hi, did you ever find a fix for this? My iPod Classic has just done the exact same thing - red X, won't be detected on Windows, and won't go into disk mode (will go into Config mode, but I can't see anything in that mode that will help).
Would really like to be able to put this into disk mode so I can try to restore my files...

  • Desktop computer crashes after sleep mode since upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since I upgraded my power Mac to Snow Leopard in December, I've had nothing but problems, all of which appear to stem from when it comes out of sleep mode. This computer and all applications were rock solid in Leopard! I also have a mac book running identical programs and that IS rock solid on Snow Leopard. I have a 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Xeon processor with 10 GB ram.
I did a complete re-install of SL and all programs as per the Apple instructions.
Basically, the computer crashes after sleep mode. I've tried all the fixes I've read on the net. Here is the report thread from the last crash. Does it mean anything or throw any light on the problem to anyone?
    Thanks,

The problem has been identified as the RME fireface400 audio driver. I've spent some considerable time experimenting to identify the culprit. It's clear that this is what is causing all my problems since Snow Leopard. Whether it's exclusively the drivers fault or partly also due to a conflict with apple SL, I don't know, but I have crash reports if apple want to see them.
From your first post, it appears you are using Fireface audio driver version 2.64. RME released a new Snow Leopard compatible driver (version 2.65) last December. It is available at RME: Downloads. (There is also a firmware updater for the Fireface 400 there, which you might want to check out.)
It isn't at all unusual for a new OS version to require new drivers for third party hardware. References to this can be found all over the web, in "read me" files & other documentation, etc. -- it doesn't just apply to OS X but to Windows & other OS's as well. (One of the biggest problems with Vista was poor third party driver support.) In fact, the X-Lab "Resolving Kernel Panics" article specifically cautions users to make sure all such drivers are current. See section 6.1 of that article for more details.
I don't know if you missed all this somehow, but if you haven't already downloaded & installed the new RME driver (& possibly the firmware update as well), then do so now. While you are at it, check for other similar updates for any other third party hardware devices you use, using the info in section 6.1 of the X-Lab article as a guide.
Hopefully, this will resolve your issue, which (as already mentioned) is kernel panics, not crashes. If you still have problems, post more about them, being mindful of the difference between application crashes & kernel panics. Because they are fundamentally different, they have different cures, so we will need to know which type they are to offer effective help.

  • Don't work App Store after sleep mode

    Hello!
I'm sorry for my english :-)
My MacBook Pro 2011, updated to OS X 10.9. Not working App Store app after sleep mode - not show anything in the window at all (shop, purchase, updates), load the CPU and eats memory. After rebooting Mac all right again until the next sleep mode.
    How can I fix it?
    Thank you.

    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.appstore.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
You might need to redo the View settings after an update.

iMac 27 locking up after sleep mode requiring full power shut down and rebooting in safe mode then shutting down and rebooting normally.. Permissions and this check show no errors, the only error sleep mode failure. Boot up is very slow as well as wake up when possible is slow. Yosemite seems to need a new release in order to correct the boot problems. System operates more like a Windows machine than Apple machine what's going on?

  • WLan fails to connect after sleep mode - Satellite T110-10x

    Hi,
    Everything works fine, wireless connected.
After sleep mode - it fails to connect although it detects my wireless network.
I've tried the latest Realtek driver, still no good.
I've verified that my setup is not to turn down wireless in the power options.
    Any idea?

    Hi
Where did you find the latest WLan driver?
Here on this Toshiba driver page you can find the latest Wlan driver:
    http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/wlan/
I recommend uninstalling firstly the old driver and then to install the newer version.
Furthermore its necessary to update the BIOS. I read in the forum that similar issues could be solved by BIOS update.

  • MacBook starts and instantly enters sleep mode

In the past few days I've been experiencing a reoccurring problem with my macbook pro. I press the power button, hear the startup of the drive, and then sometimes the display will turn on for a second(mostly stays off), and then enters sleep mode instantly. I can not get on my macbook unless I turn it on and let it sit for 15-20 minutes, then MAYBE the display will activate. Please help.

Do you hear a chime at startup? How do you know it is entering sleep mode and not turning off? Does the cursor move on the screen? Here is something from another user's experience:
I had the same issue with my 2008 iMac and Apple support walked me through the fix yesterday...
    1. Shut the computer down by holding the power button for 10 seconds
    2. Restart the computer and press shift at the same time until you see the progress bar start moving
    3. Once you reach the point where your screen goes dark and you see the cursor, type the first letter of the username for your computer, then hit Enter, then type your password, then hit Enter.
    4. After a moment, you should see the spinning beach ball
    5. Your screen should then move on to something along the lines of "Completing OSX Installation" (I can't remember the exact wording). Let it finish. After that it should go to your normal desktop and the issue should be fixed. (If your screen goes pitch black during this process, hit the space bar. I thought it wasn't working, but the screen was just sleeping).
Apparently it's an issue with an automatic update that never quite got past the login screen.
