Mavericks and screensaver desktop

I upgraded to Mavericks and now I can't choose iphoto as screensaver desktop, because there is not icon iphoto in source. Desktop background does have icon iphoto and I can choose photo for it. Can you help me?

They work fine on my computers also.
If it occurs again, see if it also happens in a newly created User Account. If it doesn't, there is probably a corrupt preference file. If that's the case, return to your usual User account and remove all the .plist files with screensaver or desktop in them from the folder
Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences
including any .plist files in the ByHost folder in that Preferences folder.
If it does occur in another Users Account, you will probably need to do an Archive & Install from the install disk.

  • Mavericks and iPhoto Screensaver

We upgraded to Mavericks- finally- and have quite a large iPhoto library. We enjoy using some photos as desktop and screensaver images. I was successfully able to get the desktop image  to work, but have had no luck with the screensaver. When I open System Preferences and go to Screensaver It points me to the hard drive rather than iPhoto and won't let me change it. Can you give me some guidance on how to proceed? The "whirling circle of death" just whirls and whirls! Thanks for any advice! It may be totally operator error here!
    Thanks!

    Hi Eric,
When I go to the Screensaver option, I see some choices of options. I'm pasting the screenshot below. When I try to choose a photo option- like classic or ken Burns, it just whirls and whirls. Eventually the screen turns black and says it's loading photos- but that was for 10 hours last night! Am I looking in the right place for the source?
    Thanks for your help!

  • After updating Mavericks all my desktop files and folders were deleted

I just updated to Mavericks and after going through the registration and settings process I have a desktop wiped clean. No personal files, no personal folders, Thunderbird email reset and deleted, etc. All previous settings were reset. All files were deleted that weren't part of Apple's default files or the Mavericks OS. They don't appear in finder, or spotlight, or when I open an app to try and view 'recent documents'.
    How does this happen?

Did it have you create a new user during your first startup after installing Mavericks?  If so, check your "user" folder to see if you old account is still there.  You can follow these steps the to restore that user account:
    1. If your computer is starting up as if it is a new / clean install, create a dummy user (i.e. User name: test).
    2. Get to the desktop logged in as this dummy user and navigate to the "Users" folder. In addition to the dummy user you created and the "Shared" folder you should see a folder for your old user account. Take note of the exact spelling including cases of that user account.
    3. Go to System Preferences -> Users & Groups
    4. Confirm that the user you are trying to access is not in the greyed out list of users.
    5. Create a new user with the user name (short name) identical the name of the user's folder you are trying to restore.
    6. It will say "a folder with that user already exists, do you want to use the existing folder?" Confirm "Use Existing Folder"
    7. Let it run for a minute and you will see the dummy user's name appear in the menu bar, on the right hand side.
    8. Go to System Preferences -> Sharing and change the computer name to something other than 'dummy user account's' Computer
    9. Congrats, everything should be back to normal. Log out of the dummy account and into your old account, everything should be waiting for you as you left it.

  • Desktop Image and Screensaver: doesn't work

I can not change my desktop image, and my screensaver won't start.
I was playing around in Desktop Preferences tonight, setting different speeds for the iTunes Artwork screensaver to see how it'd look, and suddenly, System Preferences just crashed on me. I wasn't doing ANYTHING strange, just playing with the options of the original screensavers that came with my computer, which is brand new. I don't have any third party screensavers loaded on my machine. The desktop image was one I made myself, with Photoshop. I have absolutely no idea why it's acting this way.
Even stranger, out of curiosity, I created a second user account and tried the screen saver while logged in the second account. The screensaver worked just fine. But still nothing in my main account. Any ideas?
When I try Desktop Images and Screensaver now (within System Preferences), it CRASHES on me. I get this error message:
"The application System Preferences quit unexpectantly.
Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."
If I reopen it again, I get the same thing. The second error dialog will always have the option to "try again." If I try again, I can actually open the Desktop Images and Screensavers window. I can't change anything, however. If I try changing something, I get the following message:
    "System Preferences -- New Settings
New settings have been created for this application. Do you wish to use these settings from now on?"
With two buttons for yes or no. However, no matter which button I select, I get the same results.
I've run OSX through Jaguar and Panther, so it's not like I'm a new user who just clicked the wrong thing. I'm seriously stumped here. Can anyone help? I'm a little worried about this.... Thanks.

THANK YOU!!!! Yes, it was the preferences in my library causing the problems. I just deleted the screensaver preferences, and that fixed all the problems, including the desktop image problem.
I also think that maybe an alarm clock program I downloaded called Aurora may have been partly to blame. I had Aurora authorized to wake my computer from sleep, even though I had password protection enabled. This might have conflicted with the screensaver somehow, dunno.... Let me know if any of you are successfully using Aurora without any problems, and I will reinstall it. But for now, that program is off my system.
Anyways, thanks a load. You guys are all very helpful. -- Dean

The iPhoto library should be in your user folder/Pictures unless it was moved.

  • Can't access Desktop and Screensaver Preferences

    Hello,
I have had my macbook for 3 months and absolutely love it. I just have one problem which has occurred over the last couple or days.
When I go into the System Preferences folder I cannot access the Desktop and Screensaver Preferences. And instead of the regular icon for this, there is the System Preferences icon and the letters are jumbled below the icon.
I've searched through this forum to find a solution and have followed the following steps, to no avail:
I've checked for software update but my computer is updated
Have used Disk Repair using startup disk, but no errors found
Downloaded and ran Yasu, to clear check and clear caches
    Deleted apple.com.screensaver.xxx.plist - in Home/library/Preferences/Byhost
Finally, I attempted to delete com.apple.preferencepanes.cache, and also com.apple.preferencepanes.searchindex.cache, but they always reappear in the Cache folder, no matter if I move them to desktop and delete them, or just put them straight in the Trash.
This all sounds really longwinded, sorry if it's unnecessarily long. I hope someone is able to help!
    Cheers.

Have just installed Mavericks and restarted the MacBook Pro. That was 3 hours ago and after logging in, I got my wallpaper and dock, but none of my desktop icons, just the spinning coloured wheel. It's been like that for 2 hours. Is this normal? What should I do, please?
I tried holding the on/off switch down to make it shut down, but when I turned it back on again, the same thing happened and none of the keys etc makes any difference.
    HELP!!!! Please.

No, what you're experiencing is not normal.
Try booting whilst holding down the Shift key - this will allow you to boot into Safe Mode, disabling third-party kernel extensions, etc. Your Mac will be slow to boot and will operate sluggishly. That's normal. If you can get in using Safe Mode then you have some start-up item that doesn't play well with Mavericks.

  • I am using a Palm Pilot still for several purposes, and the desktop version can run om my Mac OS X 10.6.8, but I cannot find a version that runs on OS X Mavericks, which prevents me from upgrading as my PalmPilot is storage for vital info.

I am using a Palm Pilot still for several purposes, and the desktop version can run om my Mac OS X 10.6.8, but I cannot find a version thjat runs on OS X Mavericks, which prevents me from upgrading as my PalmPilot is storage for vital info. Any solution?

Thank for for your suggestions. Unfortunately they are of little help. I am running on Snow Leopard and the PalmDesktop works fine. However, I do not want to quit my PalmTungsten unit as it is my backup for all my important access information. If it cannot run on Mavericks and no other solution is at hand, I simply will not update my OS X, but work on my Snow Leopard as it is.
I do not know how on earth I can migrate the information from my Palm into another system, and then quit the PalmPilot. If you have any intelligent solutions to this I would appreciate an input. A manual copy and paste solution is not acceptable. I may however run it on Windows via Parallel Desktop, but it is a lousy solution, and demonstrates (again) the weakness of Apple's OS and lack of compatibility. I am not impressed by the OS X performance.
    Thank your for your attention.

  • Macbook pro "Desktop and screensaver" missing

I don't know how this actually happened. But one day I was tired of my screensaver and went to go change it. So when I clicked on system preferences I noticed the "Desktop and screensaver" pane missing. I don't even know how long it's been like this. Is there any way to fix this without losing any data I have on my macbook?

I am having the same issue.

  • NO iPhoto Library showing in Desktop and Screensaver Menu in SL

    Hi experts,
I have experienced a problem after I updated to SL last night.
I made a fresh install of both SL and iLife 09 on my mbp unibody late 2008.
Afterwards, I replaced the my fresh iphoto library simply with my old iphoto 09 library from time machine (no migration tool, only copy pasts).
But now I recognized a problem that I see no iphoto library in my Desktop and Screensaver Menu in control panel. I cant set iphoto library photos as screensaver cause I cant see them
Does anyone have a solution for it? or does anybody face the same issue?
    Thanks!!!

I have the same thing. I wiped everything clean and installed Snow Leopard/iLife '09/etc. I run my iPhoto lib from an Airdisk and I just set iPhoto to point to that same library on the wireless disk. Everything works fine, except I can't set iPhoto pics as my desktop. I see a label for iPhoto (just like when it used to work) except there's no arrow by it and it's empty. If I plug the computer straight into the disk and use the same library, it works fine. Any thoughts?

  • My 'desktop and screensaver' can't be change. it keeps on loading

I used to change my wallpaper quite a lot but one day I got stuck on a picture. I then figured out way a way to change it. To change it I went on Google Images and found a really nice wallpaper, went of full size image, clicked the ctrl button and click 'Set as desktop background'. This worked but then one day when I logged in my wallpaper was nothing but a black screen. I tried several times to change it how I did the last time it went wrong, but it didn't work. I then tried going on 'System Preferences' -> 'Desktop and Screensaver'. But when I clicked on Desktop and Screensaver the waiting logo came up and stayed for about 3 hours. I then had to force close System Preferences. I have tried this every day and I still get the same result.
Any suggestions to this problem will be appreciated Thanks

  • Desktop and Screensaver Preferences Freezes!

I added wallpapers folder to the desktop and screensaver sidebar then I moved the folder to a different place,
Now, when I open the Desktop and Screensaver, it freezes all the time.
I tried to delete the files under libarary but i could not find any of them.
I rebuilt iPhoto, but it was not the problem.
    Thanks

    Back up all data.
In the Finder, hold down the option key and select
    Go ▹ Library
from the menu bar. From the Library folder, delete the following item, if it exists:
    Caches/com.apple.systempreferences
and move the following item to the Desktop:
    Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
Launch System Preferences and test. If you still have the issue, put the item on the Desktop back where it came from and post again. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Desktop and Screensaver preferences crashes upon opening it...

    hi,
recently for no reason whenever i try to go to desktop and screensaver option in the system preferences it crashes automatically and means i have to force quit it. Its very odd. Is there a way to stop it doing this?
    thanks

    Hello t:
recently for no reason whenever i try to go to desktop and screensaver option in the system preferences it crashes automatically and means i have to force quit it.
If it crashes, there should not be a force quit required. What do you see in the crash logs?
In any event, try trashing a preference file (com.apple.systempreferences.plist) and restarting.

  • Desktop and Screensaver preferences don't work;

Desktop and Screensaver Preferences worked perfectly until the latest update, 10. 5. 7 were installed.
I tried every suggestion and approach to solve this problem, nothing worked. So I reinstalled 10 .5
and it works perfectly again. What changes were made in the 10.5.7 combo that would cause this problem? J. Weigel

They work fine on my computers also.
