Mavericks Bootcamp! Should I use Windows 7 or 8? x64 or x86?

What version of Windows works best with Mavericks Bootcamp? Should I use Windows 7 or 8? x64 or x86?

My preference Windows 7 because Windows 8 is designed for and works best on a touch screen computer.. Regardless, use 64 bit.

    Thanks a lot!
    if possible, please send me "step by step exercises about the WPF Application to email: [email protected]

    Although I don't have much experience with WPF, only Windows Forms, this blog post might shed some light on which decision you should make:
    http://rachel53461.wordpress.com/2012/10/12/switching-from-winforms-to-wpfmvvm/
    If you are looking to just add a quick and dirty UI on top of a small script or executable tool, Windows Forms would be the answer, as it is very easy to learn and use. However, since you have the best tools currently available, and you say you want to do
    it the right way, I would say learn WPF now. You will benefit from it later on.

    There is no need for anyone to use 32-bit version anymore.
    Retail comes with both. Or you can save on just buying 64-bit System Builder disc.
    Better support for today's hardware with larger video graphic memory and systems.
    Better memory management.

  • Should I use Windows for Filetopia?

    I'd like to download Filetopia but their info says it's only compatible with Windows.
    At this point, I haven't used Windows for anything and am concerned about viruses.
    BTW, I was invited into a secure chat group on Filetopia.

    HI,
    Installing Windows on your Mac requries doing your homework first. It can be a daunting task at best depending on your computer background and experience.
    To install Windows on a Mac just for one application which would deem your Mac vulnerable to viruses (on the Windows partition only) doesn't quite seem worth the work.
    If you were to install Windows using BootCamp, you might want to check out the BootCamp Manual here first. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/bootcampinstall-setup.pdf

  • Should I use Windows Live Mail or Outlook Express ...

    I have always used Windows Live Mail, as it is a very simple and pleasant program to use - great graphics, interface and reminders.
    I found Outlook way too fiddly and technical, with a very boring interface and comparatively poor reminders that email has arrived.
    However, since getting my E71 setup with Nokia Messaging, I have overcome this for the sake of being able to sync my contacts and messages - Outlook 2007 is now set as my default browser.
    This was ok, but now when I use Windows Live Messenger I get email reminders up - and clicking on those takes me into Windows Live Mail.
    I just want one, streamlined email/messenger service - one of these email managers must be deleted!
    - Can I sync my E71 into Windows Live Mail instead of Outlook?
    OR
    - Can I replace Windows Live Mail with Outlook 2007, as the email manager used by Windows Live Messenger to open emails?
    I want everything done with one email browser!

    You can use iCloud Mail with Windows Live Mail, but not Calendars or Contacts.
    If you want to use iCloud on Windows download EMClient, you can access the core services (Mail, Calendars and Contacts) using it. Installation and configuration will be manual.

  • New to Bootcamp, should I use bootcamp to run my PC audio softs?

    Hi I'm new to bootcamp. I'm planning to use my MBP to run PC audio softwares daws like sonar or cubase, with firewire audio interface. I don't know if this is a good idea, will this sound the same as a real PC? Will there be a lot of problems?
    How about if I play a 3d big video game on bootcamp xp sp3 on my MBP, will it run as fast as the same cpu, memory, graphics card PC?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    running Windows natively (with BootCamp) on a Mac is like running Windows on any other given PC and it uses the available hardware to its full power.
    There are some reports of trouble with Firewire interfaces and BootCamp Windows, so you should check the manufacturer website and forums for such reports.
    BootCamp Windows is your only choice to run 3D video games.
    The virtualization apps there are (Parallels, VMWare Fusion or VirtualBox) cannot handle these games in a satisfactory manner

  • Can I use windows 7 on my Mac mini 2.1 with bootcamp?

    I have a Mac Mini 2.1 running OS 10.5.8, and an unspecified version of bootcamp. Currently using Windows XP. I want to upgrade to Windows 7. Can I do this? If so, do I need 32 bit version or 64 bit version?

    Just a heads up, you don't need to run bootcamp to install windows on a Mac (if you want it to be the primary OS)
    I have a Core 2 Duo Mac mini running Win7 x64 without any issues. I will check which model it is later.
    It has 5 USB, FW 800, and displayport + mini displayport (if that helps identify the model)

    Hi,
    I want a complete border less window with an option to resize from all sides of window in xaml but it should not use window chrome property. Can we able to achieve this with out using window chrome property? I also used allow transparency property but it
    is not working to my requirement. Help me on this
    Karthik

    Hi,
    I hope you are using "AllowTransparency" along with "ResizeMode"
    <Window
    xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation"
    xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml"

    WindowStyle="None"
    AllowsTransparency="True"
    ResizeMode="CanResizeWithGrip">
    </Window>
    Now "AllowTransparency" can lead to Memory leak so you may refer to below style property
    <Style TargetType="Window" x:Key="DialogWindow">
    <Setter Property="AllowsTransparency" Value="True"/>
    <Setter Property="WindowStyle" Value="None"/>
    <Setter Property="ResizeMode" Value="CanResizeWithGrip"/>

    HorizontalAlignment="Stretch"
    VerticalAlignment="Stretch"/>
    <Button Width="15" Height="15" Content="x" Grid.Column="1" x:Name="PART_CloseButton"/>
    </Grid>
    <Border HorizontalAlignment="Stretch" VerticalAlignment="Stretch"
    Background="LightBlue" CornerRadius="0,0,10,10"
    Grid.ColumnSpan="2"
    Grid.RowSpan="2">

    <ColumnDefinition Width="20"/>
    </Grid.ColumnDefinitions>
    <Grid.RowDefinitions>
    <RowDefinition Height="*"/>
    <RowDefinition Height="20"></RowDefinition>
    </Grid.RowDefinitions>
    <ResizeGrip Width="10" Height="10" Grid.Column="1" VerticalAlignment="Bottom" Grid.Row="1"/>
    </Grid>
    </Border>

  • X-Fi Titanium Freezes System Windows 8.1 Enterprise X64

    I didn't have any problem on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 operating system. When i started to use Windows 8.1 Enterprise X64 edition , likely once in ~1 hour operating system freezes and very loud annoying sounds came from speakers(which is connected to the soundcard) and i have to hard reset computer. This happens while playing games and watching videos. If i disable the soundcard from hardware devices and if i use onboard sound, problem solves.
    My operating system, hardware drivers and bios all up-to-date.
    I tried everything, (Completely removed all driver and softwares, installed the newest ones.)
    Is it only me ?
    I think, something is terribly wrong with Creative's Windows 8.1 drivers . Or my soundcard dying ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Please check if the Windows Server 2012 is still UNABLE to detect the external NTFS drive after attach the drive from the Windows 8.1 back to the Windows Server 2012.
    A RAW filesystem simply means that it is a filesystem that is not recognized by Windows. The most common cause of external hard drives suddenly becoming RAW drives is if they are disconnected from a computer without using the “Safely Remove Hardware” option.
    You can use the Dskprobe tool (Dskprobe.exe) to make repairs to check it the issue still exist on the Windows Server 2012.
    What is this Raw File System

  • For the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

    for the 2013 versions of macbook pro should I purchase 32 bit windows or 64 bit version to be able to install it on macbook and use windows with bootcamp?

    Then you might check at any of the other university book stores or software stores or any computer store in town for the 64-bit version.
    If you want to use the 32-bit version from the school (you probably get it for free or very cheap) then you could purchase Parallels and run it as a virtual machine concurrently with OS X. There are some caveats:
    1. You have to purchase Parallels (there may be an academic discount.) List is $79.95.
    2. Your computer needs minimally 4 GBs of RAM, but realistically 8 GBs would be better.
    3. Parallels creates a pseudo-drive on your hard drive. It could easily require 50 GBs of disk space.
    Accommodating these might be more costly than buying 64-bit Windows 7. And, if you look online you may find them with an academic discount (or may be able to order it through the school.)

  • HOWTO: install Windows 7 RC in BootCamp via XP using Parallels 4.0 in SL

    I know, the subject sounds pretty complicated, but don’t worry: the process of doing it is even worse.
    Basically the main idea was to be able to use the same BootCamp partition of WinXP to upgrade to Win7, using the win7 .iso image to install it (I was simply to lazy to go to a shop and buy a rewritable DVD). Still, during my days <!> of tests and investigations few things came out. This can be useful even if one wants just to create a Win7 Parallels virtual machine from an already present BootCamp installation, make a Windows installation using BootCamp or for general knowledge. So let’s start.
    *GOLDEN RULE*:
    Disable (or even better, uninstall) any 3rd party NTFS package like Paragon NTFS (beta) NTFS-3G, NTFSmount or else. This caused me many problems since it seemed that Parallels and those packages were conflicting on the NTFS ownership of the BootCamp partition. Don't forget to reboot after that.
    *INITIAL SETUP*:
    Have Parallels 4.0 cleanly installed
    Partition your hard disk with Boot Camp Assistant. Reserve at least 15GB for Windows. This will create a 2nd FAT32 partition called “BOOTCAMP”
    Insert a WinXP SP2 install CD/DVD in the DVD drive
    Go back to Boot Camp Assistant and click “restart”
    *INSTALLING WINDOWS XP:*
    The system will reboot from the WinXP install disk
    Let the installer do its job (loading drivers)
    The screen to chose on which partition to install Windows would appear.
    Here is the first trick. Boot Camp Assistant actually created 2 more partitions. An empty one of about 100 MB, and the FAT32 one. RESIST from the temptation of deleting the FAT32 partition to then format the available disk space as NTFS or to convert it into NTFS. Instead SELECT the FAT32 partition. This will take us to a next screen were will be able to format it. Select “Format as NTFS” and go. It may be better to use the FULL format, but I’m not sure it’s necessary.
    Not doing as above will produce at a certain point the infamous
    “hal.dll missing or corrupted message”.
    which I can assure you is very much frustrating since we get it only at the end of the installation.
    The installation will then continue. Follow all steps as required until you have a full Windows XP installation.
    Reboot and press the Option key (alt). Select the Windows partition to check that WinXP is actually cleanly installed. No need to install BootCamp device drivers at this point.
    *CREATE THE PARALLELS WINDOWS XP VIRTUAL MACHINE (VM).*
    Reboot as OSX.
    Check in Finder or Disk Utility that the NTFS partition is present and readable.
    Start Parallels Desktop
    Go to File/New Virtual Machine and follow the steps to create a Windows XP virtual machine.
    Choose custom setting to tell Parallels to use the BootCamp partition
    Once the VM file will be create Parallels will start the BootCamp Configurator (a 4 steps very long process) to “convert” the BootCamp partition into a VM.
    At the end it will install the Parallels tools as well
    Let the WinXP VM start
    Shut WinXP down and close its VM window
    *UPGRADE THE WINXP PARTITION TO WIN7*
    Here is the second trick, and this has been a pretty nasty one. Actually the Parallels BootCamp configurator seems to mess up with the BootCamp partition when creating a Win7 VM. Parallels when trying to access the BootCamp partition during the process of creating the new Win7 VM reports a message:
    “A disk configuration error has occurred. Make sure that you have read/write permissions for the disk”
    Even being able to pass after that error, and having Win7 installation starting, Win7 may report
    Error code ox80070057
    When trying to access/format the BootCamp partition.
    The solution to these problems appears to be in the BootCamp Configurator, as I’ve found in the Parallels forum:
    <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.php?t=31190&page=3">http://forum.pa rallels.com/showthread.php?t=31190&page=3
    Open the Terminal application and type:
    sudo mv /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/MacOS/BootcampConfigurator /Library/Parallels/Parallels\ Service.app/Contents/MacOS/BootcampConfigurator.old
    Now the environment should be ready. So follow these steps:
    Create a new Win7 VM in Parallels (File/New Virtual Machine)
    Use as DVD drive the Win7 RC installation image. This will automatically select a Windows 7 environment in Parallels
    Change the boot order having the CD/DVD-ROM first and Hard Disk 1 second
    Use the BootCamp partition as VM and create it
    The VM will start loading the Win7 installer. Select your local setting, a screen to chose the partition will appear, select the NTFS partition (BootCamp with WinXP on it). The installer will move the old WinXP files in C:\WINDOWS.old and continue with the installation.
    Once the installation is complete do the following:
    Start Windows 7 in Parallels to check that it is functional
    Install Parallels Tools if you like
    Shutdown the VM.
    Shutdown OSX.
    Press the power button and hold Option key at the chime sound
    Boot from the Windows disk
    Windows 7 should start booting. Don’t worry if it will take a long time. Personally it takes to me something like 30 s. with the blinking cursor before to see the graphical Windows 7 screen
    Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD.
    Open the Bootcamp folder and Double click on setup.exe to install the BootCamp device drivers.
    If it says that your computer is not compatible do as follow:
    Locate the Command Prompt app in the Start/All Programs/Accessories menu
    Right click on it and start it as administrator
    At the DOS prompt:
    Select your DVD drive (D: or whatever)
    Type
    cd \BootCamp3.0\Drivers\Apple
    Execute BootCamp.msi or BootCamp64.msi depending if your Win7 installation is 32 or 64 bits (yes, it works in EFI32 Macs as well. Not like SL K64 apparently).
    You will be required to reboot.
    Restart Windows 7 and enjoy!
    PS: This is not intended to be a tutorial about the best way of installing Windows 7 in a Mac. I know a much easier solution is to burn a DVD and do the installation from it using BootCamp assistant. Still doing so one may (will?) face some of the problems described above. It’s just a description about how the Windows 7 installation can be done in the hard way, with hints about common problems installing Windows with BootCamp and the loading it into Parallels. I hope it will be useful for anyone. I just wished there was a similar tutorial when I started this mess!!

    Yes it is, follow the Boot Camp Instructions here

    If your system is Core2Duo or better, use 64-bit.  32-bit only sees 3.5 GB RAM max.  64-bit Home sees 16 GB RAM max, and 64-bit Pro sees 192 GB RAM max.
