Mavericks causing slowness with certain Apps
I am experiencing 10-15 minute wait times(Beach Ball) when I am using Photoshop CS5. When I have Steam running, or even when it is being launched, my mac becomes unusable until the app crashes. These applications were definitely not running slow or crashing before I upgraded to Mavericks. I have booted to my recovery drive and run Disk Utility to Repair Disk and Repair Permissions, but that did not seem to help at all. I have even restored from a Time Machine Backup and the symptoms remain. Any assistance is appreciated.

I have checked with Steam Support, but they are unable to offer me any assistance and they say it's a problem with Mavericks and not their software.
In other words they cannot get their software to work with Mavericks. You need to check for updates, especially
org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv (4.2.6)
org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB (4.2.6)
com.squirrels.driver.AirParrotSpeakers (1.7 - SDK 10.7)
[loaded] com.wacom.pentablet.plist
Steam
Caffeine
The last two, I honestly wouldn't bother keeping. I have seen bpth as culprits so far in affecting Mavericks installs adversly.
Cheers

Swirly rainbow with certain apps since upgrading to Maverick
Ever since upgrading to Maverick, I've had problems with certain apps, mainly iphoto and Word. I see where I probably need to get the upgraded iphoto app, but don't see anything about Word.
Thank you. Here is the report:

I have an iphone 4. Recently I have issues with certain apps closing immediately once they are opened.(ie Email). Tried re-booting entire phone and still having issues. Any one else having this issue or know a fix for it?
Delete background Apps from memory and then Reset.
To Delete background Apps, double click Home button, in the bar at bottom, hold down on an App Icon until the minus sign appears, tap all the minus signs, until all background Apps are cleared from memory. Then Reset, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart itself, ignor the 'slide to power off' let the iPhone restart itself. Usually takes about 10 seconds of holding both buttons. -
I got my Dads old iPhone 3GS for Christmas and reset it to its factory settings. It had this problem with my Dad to, thats why he got a new phone. It was claiming that the battery was dead when I opened certain apps eventhough it had plenty of battery, It made me charge it and then said it was plenty charged. Why? That happened multiple times. That's what happened to my Dad as well. This however, is me only. O.K. so, the other day, it did it's battery dead shutdown thing, so I plugged it in, but it kept starting up, then shutting down again, starting up, and shutting down again. Now I've left it on the charger for about a days, it's not on the charger now, and it won't turn on. Help!!!!!!
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, take the device to Apple for evaluation and possible replacement. -
No connectivity with certain Apps... please help
I'm loving the z10 and many of the apps. However, recently, I can't load certain apps that were working fine before.
For example, the songza app keeps "waiting for connection". Word hero says "no connenction, unable to play"
8tracks also does not work.
Previously, all these apps were working great on wifi and on the regular network. Other apps, like globe and mail, cbc, thescore all are working.
Please help!Hello!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

Lightning to VGA Adapter not working with certain apps
I've recently noticed that I can't watch movies on Netlix any more with my Lightning to VGA Adapter going to an LCD monitor. It works just fine with other apps just not Netflix. Apple says it is a Netflix app problem, and Netlix doesn't want to admit it's anything wrong with their app. Any one else have this problem? Is there a solution?

IMac (late 2009) really slow with all apps
I just recently have been having a huge problem with the speed of my iMac. It's a Late 2009 machine.
I am constantly having it freeze, with a spinning rainbow wheel, only to have it catch up with what I was typing, or trying to execute, after a few moments. This even happens when I only have one application running.
Here is my EtreCheck:

However, a few of things to try:
Disable Google Drive and test. In general, off-site backup software can slow the computer, and there are numerous reports here that the Google apps are still not playing well with Mavericks.
Disable 1Password and test. It's a long shot but it could be contributing.
The Etrecheck report shows you hard drive passes the SMART test but you may wish to boot into your recovery partition and run Disk Utility from there.
Historically, TomTom's software has not been as Mac-friendly as Garmin's. That is another "disable and test" version you can do.
Disabling doesn't remove the software, just lets you test without that component loading.

My macbook is running really slow with most apps crashing
Hello everyone,
so recently my MacBook pro (mid 2012) is running incredibly slow, it's been a couple of weeks now and I don't really know what's going on, since it's always been pretty fast I've never had much issues until now.
Thank you very much!!
Beth

Sync ends in iTunes with certain apps, but iPhone still says syncing
[I'm using the 3.0 version of the software, haven't yet upgraded to 3.1]
The other day, while traveling, I hooked my iPhone up to my laptop computer for the first time. (I normally use my home "desktop" PC.) It did a sync which caused about 2/3 of my applications to disappear.
When I got home, I reconnected the iPhone to my main PC, and iTunes said the PC was not authorized, so I authorized it for the second time (and now it says I have authorized 4 computers when I've only authorized 3.)
When trying to sync back the applications I've had in the past to the phone, there are certain applications (including Google Earth, Finger Piano Lite, ETrade Mobile Pro, and a couple of others) which cause the sync to end part way through the installation (and the app does not show up on the phone) and cause the iPhone to no longer be recognized by the iTunes software (the iPhone icon disappears from the column) until I disconnect and reconnect the phone. When the sync ends in iTunes, the iPhone still says "Sync in Progress" even though it's not syncing.
At one point, many of my icons also got a white blank stripe across about the top 1/4 of the icons. I deleted them from the iPhone and resynced and it seemed to get rid of that problem.
When I right-click on the iPhone icon in iTunes and run diagnostics, iTunes crashes completely.
I have tried resetting the iPhone by holding down the two buttons at the same time, but the problem persists even after restarting after that reset.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated![I'm using the 3.0 version of the software, haven't yet upgraded to 3.1]

IPad gets very slow with large apps installed ?
Hi,
I have a 64GB iPad 3 and I noticed it gets very slow when I install large apps. Apps larger than 1 GB.
I have bought a number of excellent reference apps, but can not keep them on my iPad together.
I have to delete one before I can install the next or else my iPad runs into trouble.
I can have about 5 large apps installed and no more.
It takes forever to boot, restarts, has delays when typing and crashes all the time with my large apps installed.
Is this a limitation of iOS 6, or is it because I have dropped below 10 GB of my 64GB storage.
Does my iPad use the storage for memory?
I bought a 64GB so that I could use my large apps.
Sean10GB of free space should be adequate. Have you done a Reset?
How much space is your Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

Graphics "crash?" with certain apps?
Since the app store opened, I've found there are some apps that 'garble' the game graphics. The app doesn't 'really' crash, it continues to work, but you can't really see much except for a pixelated mess.
The Apple Texas Hold'em works beautifully,
but other apps like motochaser or enigmo do this every time.
I've tried resetting the phone and deleting the apps and redownloading them from the app store, but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas? What firmware are you running? Things have been updated since AppStore opened.
Also when did you reboot last?
Try a reboot (described below).
Think of it this way, the iPhone is more of a computer than a phone. It suffers from being a new OS and nobody can deny there are not bugs and memory leaks. The longer left running, the more things start to fail or slow down (I have had the iPhone since day one of original phone and I am just speaking from my experience). Thus I equate it to like when Windows95 came out...not sure of your age or if you remember those days...but back then it was a running joke of how many days you can keep Windows 95 running before you had to reboot. I am sorry to say but the iPhone is the same way right now (but getting better with a few hiccups back during the 2.0 release). So for me, I reboot daily when I leave in the morning and take it off the charger. By doing so I rarely see any lag or problems.
A reset/reboot is:
Go to Home Screen
Press and Hold Home Button
Keep holding and press and hold Lock Button
Keep holding Both
You will see Slide to Turn Off (Don't let go to slide, just keep holding)
The phone will turn off (in time, but screen will look like it has some white lines)
Keep Holding
When you see the Apple Logo, you can let go.
Turning off via the Slide to Turn off while good and fine to turn off, is more like the Sleep Mode on a computer. Thus any locked up issues in memory remain when you turn back on. A reboot as described is like doing a real Turn off and Turn On on a computer.
You may also wish to read this tread about reboots and odd application behavior.

After 10.4.6 upgrade, sound doesn't work with certain apps.
Hi,
I upgraded recently to 10.4.6 and I've noted that there's no sound at all in certain applications. At the beginning, some games didn't work: Age of Empires II, Age of Mythology and Doom (curiously, I can hear music but no sounds in all of them). But later on I saw that the problem affects Virtual PC as well (approximate translation from original Spanish message): "Virtual PC can not reproduce sounds - Virtual PC couldn't start Macintosh audio system. This problem may be solved with a more recent version of Mac OS".
In addition, I neither hear sound in streaming services like YouTube.com.
Rest of the sound (system sounds, music, movies and so on) work perfectly.
Any idea? Thanks a lot in advance.
Regards.alfonsator,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No sound from some applications, but system alert sounds play (Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4) may provide an answer for your question.

TimeMatters Adobe plugin causes problems with certain Web sites
During a recent upgrade of Adobe professional (6.0 to 8.0) on a Windows 2000 TS we discovered that a program called TimeMatters had installed a couple of plugins to IE 6 including an Adobe plugin. The Adobe plugin caused certain Web sites to be inaccessible. Once we removed the TimeMatters Adobe plugin we were able to access the sites we previously could not access.
Good to know. Both useful pieces of knowledge for others if something similar happens to them - Adobe plug-ins not necessarily from Adobe.

Mavericks causing slow finder and more
Since upgrading to Mavericks I am having issues with findder, deleting files that keep deleting forever. WHen trying to open a file through lets say Photoshop it takes 2 minutes for it to see any file in the folder I have browsed to. Not to mention other issues like my screen freezing up and going all garbley.

You have a lot of third party stuff added on to your computer which is probably not compatible with Mavericks.
I bet that a safe boot will show you a speedy mac again.
A few things I can comment on:
[loaded] com.micromat.TechToolProDaemon.plist
[loaded] com.micromat.TechToolProAgent.plist
Techtool is nice but I wouldn't let it install any of its monitoring software, like this Daemon and its buddy Agent.
[loaded] com.google.keystone.agent.plist
Google drive is not compatible with Mavericks.
[not loaded] ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist
1Password is unnecessary, now that iCloud does keychains, and does it better.

SIMBL is a chronic offender, GUI changer.

I think you can see where I'm going with this.
You have a ton of user login items, launch agents, and user launch agents.
In some cases you have multiple copies of each. You are a promiscuous downloader!
I'd go through the list and eliminate what you don't really need, which is proably most of it.
There's so much extraneous stuff on there, if I were you, I'd backup my documents and erase the HD and do a clean install. And then start over and not install all this stuff that you don't need. You are spending a lot of time with things that change the GUI where it doesn't need changing, and monitor your mac where it doesn't need monitoring (like TechTool), as opposed to actually doing stuff with your mac. All of this extraneous stuff is costly in terms of memory and CPU cycles. But then, that's a personal choice. I try to avoid software like this and just stick to the basics: Logic, iWork, iTunes.
Just for comparison, if you're interested, here's my Etrecheck report:
