Mavericks Crashes on Startup
I have a 27-inch iMac, Late 2009 that was running OS X Lion. When Mountain Lion came out, it failed to start properly but somehow I was able to roll it back and install lion, and I've been running that eve since. I thought I'd try OS X Mavericks via the free upgrade when it came out today, but I'm running into all sorts of problems. It installed fine, but constantly reboots on startup and gives an error message that's something like "your computer has restarted because of a problem," and the operating system just won't load.
I AM able to boot into Safe Mode, but everything is extremely slow and very choppy. Every time I accidentally put my mouse cursor in the corner, Launch Pad loads and takes forever to go away when I click escape or make a gesture to close it.
Can I roll back to Lion, or even Mountain Lion? I'm trying to re-install Mavericks and try again, but it's doing the full download all over again and taking a very long time. What's my best option here?
Ok
here goes.
You need onyx software for this..
go here and get it (free) www.titanium.free.fr/downloadonyx.phphttp://
and drag it to your hardrive libary ..
right click the icon and choose allow software to open ...
run onyx...
when running first time onyx wil verify your hadrive ...after this ..choose clean ..and it will clean junk files and cache files. . update logic and try again . .

AME CC Crashing on startup under 10.9 Mavericks
Hello all!
Media encoder suddenly started crashing on startup . I'm working on a Mac Pro with OS 10.9. Everything was working fine yesterday.
**edit** On first launch this morning, went to encode a ProRes422 HQ file for BluRay, but in the export settings window, the source settings stated that there was no video. The file played fine in QuickTime. I quit, tried to update. The update failed. I deleted and re-installed. Now AME crashes immediately on startup. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Premiere family CC, and on the uninstall, checked the box to delete preferences.
Here's the crash report I'm getting:

Encore keeps crashing on startup on macbook pro. I have all the latest cc and osx updates
encore keeps crashing on startup on macbook pro. I have all the latest cc and osx updates
What specific OS and Encore versions? Since you say "latest OS updates," I assume Mavericks, and is this the relatively new 10.9.1 version?
Where in the startup does it crash? Is there an error message?
Mavericks causes a variety of issues, and we don't have enough data to really pin them down. At least with the original Mavericks, some users appeared to get CS6 to run with some serious but workable problems.
Make sure you have handled any permissions issues.

Illustrator CS6 Crashing on startup
I'm running the latest version of Mavericks on a MacBook Pro.
I've had no issues in the past but Illustrator is crashing upon startup.
Here's the crash report where thread 0 is reported as crashing. I thought it was a font issue b/c when it was initializing fonts, it would crash. I have removed ALL fonts that weren't validated and removed all duplicates but still no avail.
ANY help is appreciated

Illustrator CS5 15.0.2 crashing on startup
I just updated to 15.0.2 Illustrator because 15.0.0 was crashing on startup for a long time. I don't use AI often, but now have a project with an AI document, so I need to get up and running.
Anyway 15.0.0 was crashing I think before I installed Lion in January 2012
I'm now on OSX 10.9 (Mavericks)
Based on what I read here in discussions it looked like updating to 15.0.2 would take care of the problem - no dice.
Actions I have taken:
- uninstalled 15.0.0
- reinstalled 15.0.0
- updated to 15.0.1
- updated to 15.0.2
I'm not a software professional and have already spent hours trying to figure things out through these discussion forums.
any suggestions about how to get this application back up and running are appreciated. Thanks Mike -
I decided to follow each of your steps 1 by 1 so I'd have a clean experiment.
Not in the clear yet, but I did get information. I think there is something about my login.
1) font cache reset -- doing this didn't prevent crash
2) plugins folder check for 3rd party -- none of the ones you listed were in there. There were some plugins that weren't Illustrator, some that seemed to be CS InDesign, a couple that I couldn't tell.
I chose not to do anything -- it's not clear how to know whether a plugin is 3rd party, nor how to update so I didn't want to change anything. But because of #5 below, I don't think this is the problem.
3) ran disk utility. there were some repairs needed, which Disk Utility said was successful. However, doing this didn't prevent crash on next attempt to startup.
4) Preferences reset. I was able to boot up Illustrator doing Shift Option Command and it did not crash.
I was able to successfully open documents through the program as well as clicking directly in the documents.
Two "buts" --
There was no indicator in Preferences for "reset" except under General there was a "reset all warning boxes" button, which I clicked.
Then when I quit the program and restarted, it crashed on startup just like previous.
So I don't know if I actually reset Preferences in the way you suggested.
5) This is where I had some information, though I don't know what to do with it. I opened through my test account and also guest account. Illustrator opened and did not crash. Held steady -- didn't go as far as creating a document, but was able to open pre-existing documents.I was happy to have it not crashing at this stage.
Conclusion: This seems clearly based in my login -- but don't know what to do about that. I'm assuming that if the problem was with Plugins or Preferences, I would not have been able to open on the test and guest logins.
Do you have thoughts on what I should do next?
tks

can anyone help? thanksHi Cominottom,
Thank you for your question, this is a response to the "escalate" tag. I understand that Firefox crashes on a specific website and that you have removed java, disabled hardware acceleration, have tried a new profile and disabled extensions and removed faulty RAM.
The only hint is the signature, and the line it breaks in is when the page is getting the boolean info of the SVG. However there are no svg elements on the page. However the page does require javascript. I am wondering if it has to do with the graphic drivers, since there was an update to your hardware. [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Just an observation:
The previous config for the Raedon was:
layers.acceleration.force-enabled = true
gfx.direct2d.force-enabled = true
where currently you have :
gfx.blacklist.direct2d: 3
gfx.blacklist.layers.direct3d9: 3
layers.acceleration.disabled: True
Can you try to create a new profile for the new hardware set up to see if there is an improvement? [[Use the Profile Manager to create and remove Firefox profiles]]
Looking forward to your reply! -
InDesign CS4 Uninstaller crashes upon startup.
I recently migrated from Mac OS 10.7.5 to 10.9.2 (Mavericks). Now InDesign CS4 crashes upon startup. I tried to uninstall it, but the CS4 uninstaller also crashes on startup. Anyone know how to get the uninstaller to work?
Just run the cleaner tool to remove it. See CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3

Purchased CS6 last year, installed on a (white) MacBook running Mountain Lion. All parts worked *except* Illustrator, which crashed on startup, no information.
Installed same on (borrowed from Mom, slightly older aluminum) MacBook, Illustrator worked fine. A 2-machine solution isn't in the cards for this student!
Upgraded both machines to Mavericks in the meantime, same result. I've sent crash reports to Adobe, but no response. Both machines are identical in configuration, but the white MacBook is a 2.4GHz Core2 Duo, while the aluminum one is 2.0GHz.
How can I start getting this problem diagnosed? Here's the crash log; I see the 'terminating with uncaught exception of type dvacore::filesupport::dir_create_exception: $$$/dvacore/filesupport/DirCreate=The directory '@0' could not be created. Please check the parent directory protection or permission rights.' line... what directory is contained in '@0'?
I am the owner of all directories under ~/Library/Preferences.

Encore crashes on startup everytime
Every time I start Encore CS6, it crashes on startup. I have tried emptying cache, deleting preferences, rebooting and still the same result. I also tried running Onxy to repair permissions. None of this allows Encore to open. I even tried iDVD. My goal is to burn a DVD from media I exported from PP CC.
Any help would be appreciated.Has Encore ever run for you on this machine?
Mavericks causes a variety of issues. My understanding is that permissions repair does not fix the problem, because Mavericks (and Yosemite?) changes the permissions needed for Adobe to work. CC working makes this alone less likely to be the issue. But CC has been updated for this operating system, and Encore (CS6) has no, and will not be.
Here is some information that may give you a direction:
Many of the issues in Mavericks appeared to be permissions. Most Adobe apps need read/write access, and those were not the defaults for the OS.
Some Mavericks users reported the following fixes their problems - I eventually assumed that somewhere in the process, it was fixing permissions. But perhaps it does more:
http://forums.adobe.com/message/6109315#6109315
And comments for these operating systems for Premiere Pro, Adobe Media Encoder, and After Effects may be helpful. (Encore does not have a support team that is active, so nothing official for it.) But there are specific bug fixes for these OSs in CC versions, so....

IOS Pages Crashes on Startup with iCloud - a solution
After weeks of frustration with iOS Pages 2.0.1 crashing one second into startup when accessing documents in iCloud (yet the Mavericks version working fine with iCloud), and searching many threads on the Discussions forums to no avail, I found a solution that is straighforward though not obvious.
Turns out there were spurious odd files in iCloud that iOS Pages would crash over when trying to list on startup.
Background: In Mavericks running Pages, I select File>Open and a chooser window opens. Clicking the iCloud tab brought up a list of all Pages files residing in iCloud. I found a spurious folder that contained some odd files including .plist .png and a couple of others. (This folder did not appear as a choice when opening Pages in iCloud Pages Beta via a browser.) Don't know why or how those files got there but they were greyed out and could not be opened or selected for deletion.
Solution: In OSX went to System Preferences>iCloud>Manage (in lower right corner) > Pages. A list of files appears including those spurious files which could be deleted.
Now, restarting Pages 2.0.1 on the iPhone or iPad opens and documents are listed and can be accessed normally.
Hope this helps others as there are no tips from Apple on its site and no obvious reason why the app should crash on startup.

External Firewire HD cannot be opened since Mavericks crashed
Mavericks crashed mysteriously, nothing got it rebooted, since no combo update is available I tried the entire list of Startup key combinations for Intel-based Macs, nothing. So I rebuilt from <control-R> OS X Recovery System which allowed reinstallation of Mavericks and restore from Time Machine on and external hard drive. Upon the first successful reboot of my restored system, one of my other external drives wont allow me to access it, giving the system error:
The folder “≠≠≠≠≠≠” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents. (≠≠≠≠≠≠ is drive name). Root login and <control-I> to change permissions, even checked ignore ownership and "apply tp enclosed items.
Also tried advanced User and Groups update as documented elswhere. Hopefully, you may have a suggestion on this delema?
Thank you in advance.Permissions:

Hi there, as the question says, I cannot open any Mozilla product. I have tried to install firefox 3.6, older versions of Firefox, Firefox 4.0, Sea Monkey, Thunder Bird and Sun Bird. I have the same problem everytime. I open any of these programs and the first and the only window that appears is the crash reporter. I've tried opening it in Safe Mode and the same occurs. I have tried entirely uninstalling the products incuding the registry keys but no help. I shall post the detailed error reports, if they help solving this issue. Can you kindly look into this and find a solution as I use all of these Mozilla products and my life has been a hell since they've ben down.

Same problem over here as well, FF 7 is ok but FF8 / FF9 and Thunderbird 8 / 9 crash on startup.
They both work if I start them in safe mode with everything enabled. -
I have a brand new HP dv8t laptop that is straight from the manufacturer 2 days ago.
Last night, I attempted to download and installed the latest version of Firefox. After installing, it worked great for an hour or so (3.4 different sessions).
Then, this morning when I came back to the computer, Firefox crashes at startup and gives me the option of finding a solution online or quitting the program.
How aggravating!
I have installed this same version on 2 other computers that I own, without any issue.
I have attempted to uninstall Firefox from the dv8 and reinstalling, to no avail.
I cannot find the crash report, but I do this see this message once the app crashes:

Please help! I cant stand iE anymore and I'm so lost without Firefox! You might try using the add-on 'NoSquint' which allows numerous zoom options specific to each page you visit & keeps your settings - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nosquint/
If you want to go back to 3.6x, you will find it here:
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
In most cases you can simply "upgrade" (meaning downgrade) directly from the installation. It would be a good idea to save your passwords & bookmarks just to be on the safe side. -
Photoshop CS4 keeps crashing on startup
I've had CS4 on my iMac for at least 8 months or so now. All of a sudden it is crashing on startup. CS3 is also still on my machine and I tried to start up CS3 and it crashes. The seem to get through the whole loading process, the UI starts to display, and then they crash.
Also, I cannot uninstall either app. When I do Here is what goes into the event log:
2009-10-10 08:45:26.029 Setup[219] AuthorizationExecuteWithPrivileges failed with status: -60008
Don't know if this has something to do with the crash. Here is the crash report. Any help is much appreciated!

I can power up my iMac and start Photoshop no problem. However, if I power up my Epson 3800 printer and then start Photoshop I get the crash. I then have to run Macaroni after I start up my Epson 3800 and it finds a permissions problem in some obscure tmp file that it fixes. Then Photoshop will start fine. I have had this printer for over a year now and the problem just started a couple days ago. Not sure what has changed.
