Mavericks does not "see" install USB for VMware fusion 5

I was running older version of Fusion 3 and upgraded to Mavericks. I was provided fusion 5 and want to install on macbook air (2010 4GB RAM). when I plug the USB drive into mac I just get a "USB not ejected properly" message. obviously I would use the DVD but it is macbook and do not have an external dvd. Any suggestions? I uninstalled fusion 3.0 before installing USB.

Hi Michel!
Thank you for the reply.
I tried apps: The Apple one and the Remote Buddy one. In short, we don't like it at all (in long, app works most of the times, but not always or not always immediately, might be our wifi, not sure + our mobiles are notorious for being out of battery and hanging on a charge cable of sorts + we prefer not to have the mobile with us when watching a movie as mobiles are huge distractors from real quality time + if someone says something or calls and you wish to just press pause, the app is not in the foreground and you need to fiddle around with the phone for 10 sec (and calls tend to be on the "remote" which makes it even more fiddely)... the app model just does not work for us).
I tried the Wii remote, but don't like it as well (the drains battery in 3-4 days, often does not work and needs to be reconnected).
At the moment, I am going for a USB IR receiver to get back our hotly loved Apple remote...
If the IR receiver option does not work smoothly, I would go for the Satechi! (I believe I have already order a bluetooth remote (not sure...). The Satechi model is not listed as being supported by Remote Buddy but looks good so I would try that one next.
I will aim to post what works best for us in the end in case someone is interested...

  • Maverick does not see External Harddrive

I had a Seagate external usb3 harddrive connected.  I was working on a video file when suddenly I got a message in the upper right hand corner saying that the external harddrive was incorrectly disconnected or dismounted.  OK.  So, I unplug and then plug the ext. HD back into the usb3 port.  To make the story short, the hd light comes on, I can hear the disk spinning.  But it does not appear in the Finder or desktop.   The only sign on the Mac is by going to the "About This Mac" and to the System Report which lists hardware and software.  Clicking on the USB line, it shows the external HD plugged into one of the usb 3 ports.  The disk info indicates its ID and other data and how much energy it is consuming (it appears it is only using 96 mA from an available 500 mA).  So, it appears that the Mac sees it and can read it and has power enough to run it.
I then removed the first ext. HD and inserted another Seagate external usb3 harddrive - the Mac doesn't see it either except in the System report.  The external HDs  do not show up in the Disk Utility app.  The only conclusion is that the harddrives are probably OK but the Mac won't mount them anymore.  Most people with unmountable ext. HDs usually see them in the disk utility (greyed out).
    Any ideas.

Update - I have three Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex external harddrives.  The two that I have connected to my Macbook Pro no longer can be read.  I took the two and connected to another MacBook Pro but it would not read the drivers either.  I took my third drive which I have not connected to my Macbook Pro for several weeks and connected to the other Macbook Pro and it reads it fine.
I downloaded drivers from Seagate but it didn't help.  I started my computer in safe mode, HD didn't work.  I have another drive containing a duplicate of my internal HD (using Superduper) and booted with the backup drive.  It would not open the two drives.   I'm taking the HD to a friend who has a G5 using an early Mac OS, 6.0.  These two drives contain my video files and I need to retrieve the files.
Conclusion:  The Maverick on my computer has corrupted the first two Seagate drives.

  • N800 does not connect to USB for OS update

    Hi,
I am trying to update my N800 to use the latest OS2008. I already have the file and also the update wizard in my Windows XP SP2. I used this same computer to update this device from the factory Os to OS2008 (Chinook, one of the first releases).
But now it doesnt work anymore. I hold the "swap" buttong and turn the device on, connected to my USB port. The USB logo is displayed on the top right corner but the Wizard does not detect my N800. It searches and eventually it gives up.
The N800 remains in that USB logo mode until I disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
Are there any known issues with the update process? One thing that I am doing different is that I am using my camera USB cable. I dont think this should be an issue though.
    Thank you for any help.

I tried the update process with 2 different N800s. No success. I also contacted tech support and they said to reinstall the Update Wizard... I did it even tough I was sure it wouldnt help. No success.
There is something wrong with this update process and we will need to find a different way of doing it.
Anyone with a different idea? Any suggestion is appreciated.

  • System preferences -Sound does not see external USB speakers

The computer internal speakers are working OK but the problems come when I try to use external USB speakers. The previous volume problem of the imnternal speakers resolved itself.
I have now purchased a new USB set of speakers (BOSE Companion 20) but now they will only work through the "headphone" slot at the rear of my Imac and then only thru one speaker.(right)
I have reset the PRAM - anyway I followed all the instructions and it was not solved.
In "Sounds" in system preferences the Imac cannot see the USB speakers - it only recognises the internal speakers for output.
I think until "sounds" recognises the USB Speakers I will not get both speakers working.
I insert the USB speaker wiring pin in the Headphones slot at the back of the Imac and as mentioned sound only comes thru the right USB speaker  -nothing works when I put the pin in the speakers slot alongside the Headphones slot.
    Any help apprecaited

  • Adobe PS CS4 does not "see" my USB Drives in Finder

For some bizarre reason, PS CS4 is no longer "finding" my USB 2TB drive in the Finder/Devices window on my iMac (nothing is showing in devices).  However, it is seeing my my WD NAS drives, and if I go into Finder on my own, it shows the USB drives.  The WD drives are a 2TB MyBook, and a 3TB MyCloud.  I have had some issues with _those_ drives showing up in Finder but its usually a WD firmware issue... and its usually the older MyBook drive that gives me problems.  Anyway... the aforementioned 2TB USB drive also appears (as it should) on the RHS of my iMac screen.  The drive is working just fine, and I have tried powering off the computer and the USB drive... still doesn't show using Photoshop.  I can search within finder for the file I want, and right-click to open in "Adobe Photoshop" but I'm so used to grabbing, editing, and saving files from within CS4 that I'm baffled that this drive all of a sudden can't be "seen" from within PS CS4.  Previously it had been, so I have to assume its some settings or preferences issue?

As noted above, I am now able to "see" the missing USB drive(s) in Finder so that seems to be resolved.  However, a few new issues have cropped up:
    1.  Not all my installed fonts are in my font listing, but I'll assume I can easily remedy that by activating them (I hope).  I have the sneaking suspicion I deleted some by mistake.
    2.  Safari seems to have gone weird... the upper section is flashing like crazy when I try to type in a URL, also the sidebars flash when I scroll up or down with mouse.  I've installed Chrome so I have a stable browser for the time being.
    3.  No matter what I seem to do in preferences, every new image I open does so within the same window so I have to manually drag it out to compare images.  How do I fix that permanently?
    4.  When I first opened PS this morning I kept getting some sort of error popup that couldn't complete the request?
Is it safe now to remove the new user account?

  • WebLogic (wlserver6.1sp1) does not see installed application

I'm running WebLogic 6.1, service pack 1 on Windows NT.
I have an application that uses the log4j.jar logging
utility. My program runs fine within the Visual Cafe
environment, and the log files are written as expected.
Now I'm trying to deploy my application. Without the logging
code and log4j.jar, it runs fine. When I try to
install the log4j.jar as an application, that works fine.
I've included the path in the StartWeblogic.cmd file's
CLASSPATH. Now I try to run my application. The WebLogic
console says that log4j is one of the loaded applications.
But when I start my application, I immediately get a Java
    error:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/log4j/Category
This file is definitely part of the log4j.jar.
I've also (on someone else's suggestion) tried
expanding the jar file into the web-inf/classes directory
of my application, but no luck, I get the same error
    message.
Can anyone offer any insight into what's happening?
    Thanks,
    Maya

    Hello
That is true. You can use an LDAP to handle the authentication for the login. In order to use this you need to be running Discoverer in Single Sign-On mode and you need to hook your LDAP system into Oracle OID which is what Discoverer is built to work with.
Now that I understand more of what you are trying to do I am hoping we might be able to use Weblogic's authentication but I am not sure. You might be disappointed.
That said, I don't believe Discoverer will automatically filter data based on an LDAP. You need to use a VPD (Virtual Private Datebase) in order to make the data secured via roles. This certainly can be done using database roles and I have done it several times. Again I am not sure this can be done using Weblogic's roles.
    Anybody else want to comment?

  • Garageband does not see my USB mic

I  am trying to use a Logitech combination camera mic in Garageband. The mic shows up in the recording system panel but it will not let me select the mic and when I force set it in the system preferences panel it shows up as Logitech camera doesn't work. Any Ideas?

    Thanks for responding,
I have never plugged the power plug in even though it came with it.
It has never been needed, but I did try it just to see and it did not help.
I just thought there may be something that I needed to able up, etc.
I also noticed on the sys. profiler that the items do not show there.
Somehow it just doesn't see the hub.

  • I exported jpg, tif, psd, and dng files from Lightroom but Aperture does not see them except for dng during import

How do I import jpg, tif, psd files exported from Lightroom 3 into Aperture 3.2?  I had no problems before...seems like since I installed Lion, they do not show up in the import folder.

How are you trying to import them (again) ?  If you're importing through the Import Window and have RAW only set then that's all you'll get.
Also what's an Import Folder? Not sure how Lightroom fits into this. If you share your workflow with us we might be able to help.

  • Boot Camp control panel does not load: Windows XP via VMWare Fusion

whenever i try to access the boot camp control panel--either via the diamond-shaped boot camp icon running in the task bar, or through the windows control panel itself--i get the following error message related to administrative privileges:
"An error occurred while trying to access the startup disk settings. You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrator privileges and try again."
is this because i am running windows as a virtual machine within fusion? obviously i'm not interested in the control panel for its startup options, but rather for its other adjustments such as brightness, trackpad, etc.
i am logged in as administrator--that is the only account i have--and i am running boot camp 2.1 on windows xp sp3.
    boring possibly-related background info:
    - i installed sp3 before ever putting boot camp on my windows virtual machine. i started, of course, with boot camp 2.0 via the OEM leopard install disk, but even after that installed successfully, i could not access the boot camp control panel. so i plowed forward and installed the 2.1 update, but to no avail.
    - i even un-installed sp3 and rolled back to sp2, then removed all traces of boot camp, then re-installed starting from 2.0, but to no avail.
google reveals that a few others have gotten this error message, but i've seen no definitive answer for any of them.

Check your XP Task Manager to see if the processes are running or not. I found that I had issues with my Boot Camp Control Panel if I let it auto-launch. It would hang and not start properly most of the time (but it would sometimes). I removed the process from the auto-start list and put an icon on my desktop to manually start it, and it works right every time now. As for the special keys, etc many of those only work right once the control panel app running.

  • MBP Does Not Recognize External USB Devices

MBP does not "see" external USB devices (such as Garmin Nuvi GPS) or any thumb drive. No external USB devices show up in Finder nor does Disk Utility see them. No cable issues. Have tried restarting several times, but to no avail. This MBP used to recognize these USB devices, but no longer do so.
I have seen this question posed several times in forum, but no suitable answer. Don't know if it is H/W or S/W problem.

    Hi Terry Temple
Is there at least any power going to the USB ports? ( as in if for example you plug in a USB light, will it switch on? )
If there is power in the USB ports it might be a software problem.
Try resetting the SMC see link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
also try re-set the PRAM see link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
However if you do not have any power at all it probably is a hardware problem.
    Is it still under warranty?

  • Problem with Adobe Extension Manager CC. Does not show installed extensions.

Adobe Extension Manager CC does not show installed extensions for Photoshop CC 2014 or Photoshop CC so that I am unable to uninstall extensions.  This means that I cannot install updates to extensions.

Hi JJ - thank you for getting back to me.  I got onto an Adobe tech and we tried various things including re-installation of Extension Manager, which didn't fix the problem.  We then updated Photoshop (I was one point release back) then re-installed EM and this has fixed the problem.
I did check online and quite a number of people seem to have had this problem, so I guess Adobe has fixed whatever bug was in there.
    Thanks!
