Mavericks Drag

Howzit okes!
I did a clean install of OS X Mavericks. When I start my mac, I can click a file and drag it to another folder. However, after like an hour or after dragging dropping a few files the cursor fails to grav files. I have to restart for it to be resotred. Interestingly enough I can drag and drop icons on my dock. Any suggestions? I use better touch tool, btw.

I am annoyed by, I think, the same problem. I would like to drag Pages files directly to the finder in the dock, but now with Mavericks I can not do this. It is bothersome to have to click on the finder to open it up when I did not have to do that with the old operating system. I hope someone can help us both out.
I also hope that in the next update Apple addresses the concerns many are having with the newest version of Pages. Until something is changed, I am sticking with old Pages because I find it to be a much better program to use.

Why can't I move files by dragging any more?

Since I got Mavericks I'm having copying files by dragging them. When I drag a file from one folder to the desktop I get an alias. I have to literally copy the file paste where I want it to go, and then delete the original. This is a text file. Is there a way I can get it to just move the file from one place to another by dragging? I can Option drag a file but then I have to delete the original.

Transferring sideloaded ebooks to Mac

I have an iPad 2 running iOS 7.0.4. I have a ton of sideloaded books and PDFs in my ibooks library that have been sent to me for schoolwork or otherwise, but the idea is that I both, do not have the original copies of the files in my computer and I can't afford to lose them . I believe iCloud only backs up purchases from the iBookstore, and I want to know if syncing my iPad will transfer my books or if I I will lose them because I don't have copies of them on my computer.
I'm upgrading to mavericks soon, and that's also why I want to make sure I can get all my books and PDFs on my computer.

Opening PDFs with iBooks
You can open PDF documents, such as a PDF attached to an email, with iBooks:
When you view a PDF email attachment, tap the Share button in the upper-right corner.
Tap Open in iBooks to open the attachment. iBooks will open, and you can view your PDF.
When you use iBooks to open a PDF, iBooks will automatically save a copy of the PDF to your iBooks PDF shelf. These PDFs will sync to your iTunes Book library the next time you sync your device with iTunes.

Easy letterboxing next to 4:3 footage....

The apple manual says you need to drop a 16:9 sequence into a 4:3 sequence to letter box the wide screen. When adding 4:3 footage to the 4:3 sequence, it pastes in squished. Here is a simple workaround once it's squished.
Set 4:3 footage>Motion>Distort>Aspect Ratio to 0.
Copy footage.
Paste Attributes>Distort on all affected 4:3 clips.
Wa-la, everything good.

Pages v5+ wants to be installed as /Applications/Pages.app on Mavericks. If you had Pages ’09 v4.3 installed prior to the v5+ (downgrade - cough), the installation process moves v4.3 into /Applications/iWork ’09 as Pages.app.
If you have Pages ’09 v4.3 installed on 10.8.5, just grab the Pages.app, put it on a USB stick. On Mavericks, you can create the /Application/iWork ’09 directory, and then from the USB stick, copy Pages.app into that location. I would then run Disk Utility to verify/repair permissions on your Maverick boot drive. Once you have both Pages applications on board Mavericks, drag and drop the pages icon from each respective application to your your dock.
You will always need to right-click and choose Pages (4.3) from your Open with submenu, or open the v4.3 document via the Pages ’09 application. Pages v5.2 will now open a v4.3 document without warning you about the internal document architecture conversion. Once it does that, the document is useless to v4.3, without an Export to Pages ’09.
Because Pages ’09 v4.3 and Pages v5+ embed the creating application name as Pages.app in the .pages document, double-clicking either document will attempt to launch the default Pages located at /Application/Pages. So, short of removing v5+, it will be the default application to open your documents.
Realize that Pages v5+ is not Pages ’09 v4.3 with added improvements. It is not. As an entirely new application and document architecture, it loses about a 100 features to its precedessor, and may alter your persona while struggling with its confusing interface and lost features.

File Attachments crash ALL browsers after 10.9.3 update.

This may be related to the 'drag & drop' issue, but is different.
If I attempt to attach a file to Gmail, Yahoo, Mail.com via drag & drop OR clicking the 'Attach' button, whatever browser I am using will freeze. I must force quit the browser AND Finder to get things back in order. After forcing quit on the browser and Finder the 'select file' Finder window partially remain on the screen for en extended period. I have recreated this in Safari, Chrome, and Firefox. I have tried multiple websites.
Things I have tried:
- verify & repair disk permissions
- verify & repair disk
- reboot
- Safari, Chrome, Firefox
- Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Mail.com

My housemate has exactly the same problem. The problem only occurs on her user account (even in safe mode). It doesn't occur on any other newly created accounts. I've tried repairing all disk permissions, too. I also tried uninstalling/reinstalling Flash in case it was related to that. Finally, I've tried rebuilding the user account (this method). Nothing worked.
Interestingly, for her mac (running Mavericks), dragging and dropping files into the webpage on outlook.com works fine. It's only when the browse finder window pops up that the crash occurs. This is the same across all browsers.
There seems to be extremely little out there on the net about this, so I'm guessing that it's very rare - which will unfortunatley make it hard to diagnose and fix. So frustrating!

After installing Maverick I can no longer highlight multiple emails the same way in orden out my mailbox I highlight a message,hold down my mouse and drag my cursor to highlight more messages. I click "delete" & they go to trash. How do I do this again?

After installing Maverick on my 2011 MacBookPro I can no longer highlight multiple emails in the same manner. To clean out my Inbox I highlighted a message, held my mouse down & dragged my cursor down through all the messages I wanted to delete (or move to another mailbox, or other functions) highlighting as many messages as I wanted. I then clicked "delete" & they went to trash. Such a great way to clean out a lot of messages at once. Can I and/or how do I do this again? Or is this something Maverick has eliminated? I also hate that "Notes" is no longer on the Mail page, but this is not as important. Help!!

Put differenltly, if I can drag select multiple items and objects on my desktop, which I can, using my Kensington Track Ball (which has an enabled updated software driver in place, so I don't think there's a problem there), why can't I click-drag-multipleselect emails in mail like I have *always* been able to? Really, what is the problem here? Why is that no longer possibler? I'm not a coder, but I can't believe this isn't fixable. Here, Apple should be ashamed of itself, regardless of the fact that there's an easy work around. When I have to alter the way I have been doing something for years and have to waste time learning something new and complaining about it -- like right now! -- and there's no good technical reason, and I bet there isn't, then Apple has simply failed.

After upgrading to Mavericks I can no longer drag an app from one desktop to another.

On Mountain Lion I could move apps from one desktop to the other by simple dragging them to the right which would transition to the next desktop. Now the only way I can do it is to use mission control. Anyone else seeing this?

I actually have the same problem, since I upgraded to Mavericks my MacBook Pro can't seem to find the Bose sounddock 10. Has anyone found a solution to this.

Option-drag contacts to Finder no longer works in Mavericks

In all versions of Contacts and Address Book you could select multiple contacts, hold down the option key, then click and drag them into a folder, which would result in a separate vCard for each contact. If you did not hold down Option prior to dragging, all contacts were combined into a single vCard (eg: John Smith and 10 others.vcf).
I just installed Mavericks and now the option-drag method no longer works. As I drag the contacts to a folder everything looks like it is working as normal, except that when I drop, nothing shows up in the finder, the folder remains empty. If I don't hold down the option key, it works as normal and a single vCard is created for multiple contacts. Dragging one at a time also still works.
I would like to know if others are experiencing this as well. I assume this must be a bug, as without this ability the only way to export multiple separate vCards (that I know of) would be to drag them one at a time.

It's frustrating when Apple removes a feature you're used to using... But when they close a door....
Do the following:
1) Open the Contacts Application and select all the contacts you want to export
2) Open the Automator application and create a New Workflow
3) Select "Contacts" from the Library panel at the left
4) Drag the action "Get Selected Contact Items" from the middle panel and select "Get Selected PEOPLE" from the drop-down menu.
5) Drag the action "Export vCards" from the middle panel and select "Export INDIVIDUAL VCARDS" from the first drop-down menu and select a destination FOLDER from the second drop-down menu. Just create a new folder on your Desktop and select it, you don't want to save directly on the Desktop as this will put all your individual vcards there.
6) Run the workflow by hitting the PLAY button at the top-right of the window.
Optionally, you can save the workflow for future use, but the best practice would be to use the Get Selected Items and not the Get Specified Items, as the later would only export the contacts you already have there and not the new ones, I believe.
In any case, there's the window!

Drag and drop to other desktops doesn't work in Mavericks

I'm currently experiencing an issue with dragging and dropping files within Mavericks. It seems to work only within one desktop: from one window to another. However, when I want to drag something to another screen/desktop the dragged items become stuck on the other screen. I can only move them again when I go back to the original window I dragged them from.
It is not practical to drag and drop anything on the same desktop on my (little) 13" MacBook Pro. By the way, this happened after updating to Mavericks.\
Can anyone help me?

I just posted this fix to another thread and thought it might be useful to post to all of the threads I read trying to fix the problem. Here it is:
Having the same issue over here with Mavericks 10.9.1 on a new Macbook Pro/Retina. Just now found a workaround/fix/whatever:
- click on your group in the group pane of the address panel
- click anywhere in the name pane and select all (command + a)
- click the "To:" or "Cc:" or "Bcc:" tab right above the group pane at the top of the address panel window.
The names of all of the individuals in the group will appear as an expanded list in whatever field you clicked. It takes a second or two to happen.

Why in Mavericks can't I drag the icon at the top of Preview?

Since upgrading to Mavericks, I have been not able to use the icon next to the file name at the top of the Preview window to select that file in a Finder window.
Specifically: I open a document in Preview. I decide I want to send it to someone. I open a mail program, and go to add an attachment. The mail program opens a file selector. I click and hold the icon in the Preview window and attempt to drag the icon into the file selector.
Before Mavericks, this invariably worked (provided the Preview file was up-to-date, i.e. I had saved any changes). Now it does not. Instead, the icon blinks when I click it but refuses to be dragged anywhere.
What's going on?

You can drag the favicon to the left of the Location Bar (or a tab, or a link) to any bookmark folder including the bookmarks toolbar.
The Title Bar is part of the window you can't drag a title on that anywhere it would move the Window.

I don't think that a software update from Apple will solve the issues that you are having. You have a rogue installation. After you posted I have just done the following:
Disk Utility can verify my partitioned Volume (including my boot disk) AND REPAIR the non-boot disks on the same Volume without a glitch. It repairs the non-boot disks containing data smoothly.
I have used Mail to send some mails from some Yahoo and Hotmail accounts to my Thunderbird client containing GMail accounts - absolutely normal.
I have iLife '09 but my iMovie '09 and iPhoto '09 open in a jiffy and I see no issues here. I have 6GB RAM (Maximum) on an early 2008 Macbook Pro with a 750GB hard drive partitioned with 120GB reserved for the Boot Drive.
I am sorry that I cannot help further but I am sure there must be a way to reinstall the software without having to revert to restoring your ML backup. I have two clones and if you have such I would attempt to do that through that rather than through Time Machine - that is of course if you have a cloned drive.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.
