Mavericks files / directories in finder slow showing up
I have had this problem happen very consistently. When pulling up finder or an application that needs to call on an open file dialog to look for something, the files and subfodlers take a long time to actually show up. If I select a subfolder, the progress wheel will grind in the lower-left corner for 15-30 seconds before the files in that subfolder show up. Selecting another level under that will give me the same delay.
I'm running an 2012 27" iMac, fully loaded with an i7 and max mem.
Anyone else having ths problem? I thought at first it might be a spotlight/index issue with my drive once I initially upgrade, but I have had it now for several days with my computer left on the entire time, so indexing should have been done.
Any ideas on what is causing this is or how to work around it?

I was ready to reinstall the Mavericks in my macbook when I found this post. My problem is identical: when I try to access the files in finder, the spining appears and I'm waiting 15-30 seconds for the list of applications appears.
Macbook Pro 13 Mid 2012 16Gb RAM, 256 Gb SSD.
While the mountain lion, ever behaved that way.

Hello, Spotlight in Yosemite gives you the opportunity to reveal all files in the Finder (show all files in Finder) but can it reveal in finder just the want you want? We could that with Maverick, using command. Command now seems shows you only where it is, but it doesn't take you to take to finder. Thank you

Sorry for not being more clear, I looked at your links but I couldn't find the solution. Spotlight allows you to show "all results from your Mac in the Finder" but my questions is: can spotlight reveal a specific file in the finder? Showing all results in the finder is not very helpful because it shows too many. I used to be able to do it all the time with Maverick but I don't know how to do it with Yosemite, maybe it is no possible.

Mavericks 10.9.1-Problem with finder not showing peripheral hardware
After upgrading to Mavericks (10.9.1) my Finder doesn't show new hardware in Devices. For example, Finder not showing iPod when i plug into the keyboard's usb. i have other examples of the same problem, such as trying to find a hard drive detached from an old computer. anyone know if i can configure Finder to show all peripheral (hardware) devices? maybe i need to plug the peripherals into back of the iMac rather thatn into my keyboard usb (which i have not tried.) Thanks in advance.
CharlieI had a similar issue as you did -- for a few weeks now I've been suffering through agonizingly slow Contacts performance.
The way I resolved it was:
1) Quit Contacts
2) Go to system preferences and go into iCloud, then uncheck contacts -- choosing to delete from mac.
3) Go into system preferences and to Internet Accounts and again uncheck contacts under any of the accounts it's enabled on (gmail, yahoo, etc).
4) Go to your user's library folder (easiest way is to open a finder window, hold down the option key on the keyboard and from the Go menu, select Library).
5) Delete anything referring to Address book or com.apple.address book.... -- check these folders in particular:
- Address Book
- Application Support
- Caches
- Preferences
6) Restart your computer
7) Go back into System preferences and enable contacts from wherever you want (iCloud, etc.)
8) If it's not quite enabling (appears to enable, but checkbox doesn't show), then do one more restart of the computer.
9) Now open Contacts and allow it to sync -
After upgrade from Lion to Mavericks Osx I noticed that when I have a directory shared for network purposes, usually when I want to open this shared directory I will see the little Mac wheel. It is very annoying to wait 10 sec. to proceed with opening the shared directory. Every following subdirectory I see this strange behaviour.
I have a new Imac (2013) 21 Inch.

Finder Slow Down With Mavericks
After upgrading to Mavericks I noticed an immediate slow down in finder scrolling. For example: I have a long row of files. I scroll down on my MBP track pad and when the interia movement stops, I pull down again and the computer seems to be choking on a simple process of moving through the list. No different when using my bluetooth mouse.
I'm crossing my fingers that in the 10.9.31416 version some bloatware will be trimmed out of Mavericks and things will at least be as fast as the last version of the OS. Maybe we could start a new naming convention instead of the new one chosen by Apple: I nominate "Donkey" for this version. It's slow and stubborn acting.
Any suggestions? My MBP already has an SSD boot drive and the max ram it can fit.

Aperture Unable to process RAW files even though finder shows a preview
I have recently upgraded to Aperture 3.0 which decided to delete my library. Using PhotoRec i am slowly recovering all of my files.
The files that have been recovered are .cr2 files and .jpg files. The jpegs display fine without a problem however every 2 out of 3 cr2 RAW files will not import into iPhoto, Aperture or pretty much any other RAW processing software. Aperture just says "Unsupported File Type".
My issue is that Finder is showing a preview of the image in the icon, and is showing a preview in CoverFlow, but everything refuses to open the file. This must surley mean that the data is still intact within the .cr2 file? else Finder would be unable to display the preview of the file?
Does anyone know how to fix this or what could be causing this issue?
Apple please, please fix this issue with Aperture, I fear that I have lost a lot of photos in this process.

I've just finished importing my old archive produced by this camera. What I did was to produce fresh JPEGs (medium quality, so low file size) in the same directory as the original RAW images. I happen to have Photoshop CS3 and could easily do these in batches, but worst case, you should still have Canon's ImageBrowser suite which could do this. I then imported the JPGs for cataloguing, keywording, etc. Then, if I want to do some serious work on an image from my G2, I'll right-click the image and select +Show in Finder+ and get straight to my corresponding RAW image which I can then process in Photoshop.
but I don't understand why the thumbnail shows up when I'm importing as though there are no issues.
There's a small embedded JPG in the RAW files and that's what you're seeing. I think that's also what you saw on the G2's display when you were out shooting and stopped to review an image in the field.

Finder not showing files, and relaunch doesn't fix it
A couple days ago, I opened my account, and found there were no files being shown in my finder. I checked terminal, and it confirmed my beleifs of there being files were finder wasnt showing them. I relaunched Finder like the other problems were saying to do, but after relaunching, the Finder application wasn't responding. I have not installed anything other than things from the app store, so it couldn't be a virus, but I have tryed to do a migration from another computer wich did not complete. That shouldn't have effected it though. I have tryed restarting, but that hasn't worked. Please Help!
I have been having the same problem intermittently. Restarting the mac seems to help but that isn't getting to the root of the problem (should also note that the mac can't shutdown cleanly any more I have to power it off on the last grey-screen shutdown stage).

Finder not showing files in an SMB share
Ok, I think I know what I need to do, but i'm not sure where to look essentially. I have a user in my office that connects to a share on a PC file server called Community. When looking at the share in finder it seems to be bugged, and it shows like an old cached view of what the share USED to look like. If I open a terminal and do an ls everything shows up like normal. The way I've been able to temporarily unbugg this is by clicking on Go->Go to folder and then telling it to go to \volumes\community\myfolder and then it corrects the view and shows the correct list of folders. But the next time she boots her mac and connects to the share - old view again. Is there a file for finder that is caching this info in her profile that I need to delete somewhere? This seems to be the issue, but I'm not sure where to look for this. Worse comes to worse I suppose I could always give her a clean profile on her mac, but I hate to do that for something so trivial.
(Just to note here, there's no hidden files or anything - If we go to another PC or Mac everything shows up fine, first try, no problem. It's just this one machine having this issue)giving this topic a bump. i've tried the same share via AFP and SMB, both have shown files before, but now only show folders in Finder.
incidentally, i tried mounting the same share using NFS and it works, all files and folders are shown in Finder.
in either case, all files and folders show up from Terminal. -

Finder only shows root folders, no folders or files within those
2010 Mac mini. For some reason, Finder now only shows root folders such as Music, Library, Movies, Pictures, Downloads, Documents, etc.
But when I open those folders, there is nothing contained INSIDE them. They appear empty.
I know there ARE files and folders inside of these, but for some reason they do not show.
I can navigate to these files via Terminal without issue.
Where did all my folders and files go in Finder and why are they not showing?
FYI, Finder shows a spinning wheel of dashes in the bottom right constantly.I diagnosed the problem to using autofs. I have edited my /etc/fstab file to have a couple of afp entries, but when these shares are not available, it hangs the Finder on the computer the Mac mini. Why is this? I thought the whole reason to use autofs and the fstab file was to automount shares WHEN AVAILABLE.
Any insight to this behavior of autofs? -
Finder not showing previews of Canon 5D Mark II raw files?
I've updated to Mac OS 10.5.7 but the Finder is still not showing the previews of Canon 5D Mark II raw files.
This is on a Mac Mini with 1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
(Interestingly, I have another Mac Mini with 1.42 GHz PowerPC G4, running Mac OS 10.4.11, and the Finder does show previews of the Canon 5D Mark II raw files...)

but the date was always 0(1.1.1970) ,result of isFile was null, but result of Pathname and Name was correct.
What is wrong?From the JSP, if you say, File file = new File(path);
It will try to search for the file starting from the bin directory (I am using tomcat). So, you need to give the full path to the file from there.
For example, if your file is in, webapps/examples/html/ directory, you need to use something like this,
File file = new File("../webapps/examples/html/index.html");
You can't give URL as the file name/path. You can't access Oracle's file system!!!

No it doesn't. Albums simply reference the photos in the Library. A single shot can be in 100 albus and use no extra disk space at all.
If you have the same shot in two Events then yes, the file is duplicated.

The Finder doesn't really understand the iPhoto Library. It's quite possible for the iPhoto Library to contain many files with the same name. The Library also contains different versions of the same shot - thumbnail, originals and edited version. This is normal.

I am designing a new master NetRestore image for Leopard. I have all my Dock and FInder prefs tweaked and customized on the image. (They all live in /System?Library/User Template/English.lproj/Library/Preferences...)
The one preference I cant get to stick is the option to "Always SHow Extensions" It appears to not be located in the usual com.apple.finder
Can you tell me where this preference lives?user/library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
Hold down the Option key when selecting "Go" in the Finder's menu to see your Library folder. -
I am running a late 2007 13" MacBook and when I check status of storage it is showing 88Gb of files but on Finder in Movies I cannot find more than 12-15 Gb where are the rest of the files?

That article did seem to confirm that it is not as straight forward as it might seem. Since then I have deleted some of the TV episodes I downloaded on iTunes and the available storage has increased, so I can only assume that when reviewing in finder the files for iTunes are not shown and it would appear one has to go into iTunes to delete them.
I guess I may need to set up an external hard drive to store TV series etc as long as it is easy to transfer between the external drive and the MAC and subsequently my iPad as well, but that is for another discussion.
