  • Snow Leopard Finder's Get Info fails to show Owner and Group for some files or folders which reside on a Shared Volume, hosted by G5 Server w/ OS 10.4 - why?

Frustrations with file permissions abound, as certain co workers are unable to manually determine their level of permission or who to ask to make changes to files and folders belonging to others. Users of Snow Leopard desktop OS get unhelpful feedback via Finder's Get Info, seeing only the permissions listed for "Everyone" and a statement that "You have custom access".  The custom message exists, presumably, because ACL's are employed on the shared volume in an attempt to give managerial control over these volumes to specific users, even if all users can create files and folders on those volumes.
Shared volumes are partitions of an external RAID which are set up as sharepoints on a G5 tower running Server 10.4.  Other persons in the office, using machines that are running desktop OS 10.5, can correctly see the assigned Owner and Group permissions (although the "custom access" still shows).  This at least lets the 10.5 user know who created a given file or folder, so that they can resolve permissions-restricted issues if they come up (i.e. User A wants to delete file X, but as it was created by User B, A must contact B and have them delete it.  In 10.6 it appears that A cannot determine who B is).
I know that ACL's are functioning (enabled on the drive) since we have been making use of ACL-granted write privileges for quite a while (and the custom access seems to be evidence too).
An error I encountered, pertaining to this, is that I used a 10.6 machine to create a working folder, then generated and saved several files in this location.  Expected permissions thus would be Owner = me (i.e. the user I was logged in as), R/W, Group = staff, R only, Everyone = R only.  However, immediately the permissions shown in Finder / Get Info consisted only of Everyone = R only, with no entry for Owner or Group.  Moreover, clicking + to add either an Owner or a Group resulted in error message that I had entered an invalid user or group, even though I typed in correct info (such as trying to add "staff" as a group).

  • How do I find the FTP info for my site?

I created a site with Wix.com. Since then I've been exploring Dreamweaver, and the author of "Dreamweaver for Dummies" suggets that the best way to make changes to my existing site is to use Dreamweaver's FTP capabailities to download the existing pages. But Wix doesn't support FTP -- so they tell me, and simpleurl.com (where I regeistered my domain name) and which is somehow involved in the posting of my site) can't help either. Here's the Dreamweaver page that I need to fill in.
How do I get this information?

Yup, it's basically free, altho you can upgrade a little, as I've done.
    And I took
a careful look at the "source" for the pages I've created. That code will
    show
nothing of what I've written -- text-wise. It's all stored on the Wix
    servers
and accessed with various scripts. You can re-locate your Wix-created site
after 60 days -- not before. So the suggestion I got from the "...Dummies"
    book doesn't apply here.
Nonetheless, I'm going to continue to learn how to use Dreamweaver. Maybe
after my 60 days are up I'll wanna move it. Don't know.

  • Finder's "Get Info" Creator field not the same as "Creator Code"??

Can someone explain what the difference is between the "Creator Code" associated with a file, and what the Finder's "Get Info" shows as the "Creator" (in the "More Info" section)?? I have a program that will not process a file unless a specific application has created the file. But if I change the "Creator Code" with a utility like "Type & Creator Changer" from AlphaOmega, the "Get Info" command shows no difference in the "Creator" field of the "Get Info" window.
What is going on? What is the difference between these two "Creator" pieces of information of a file?
How can one change what is in the "Get Info" "Creator" field??
    Thanks for your help...
    -Bob

I don't think what you are talking about is the same as what I asked. I looked at the file that works with HexEdit and there is some other info about "CreatorTool" and "Creator" that in the case of the file that works is set to "ScanSnap Manager" and this is what appears in the "Creator" field of "Get Info" (in the "More Info" part of the GetInfo window). This is what I am guessing the Abbyy FineReader program is looking for to allow it to process the file. Without it it will not convert a PDF image file to a searchable text PDF file. Files that work and don't work can both have the "Open With" set to the same thing, so don't think that this has anything to do with the issue. Both can have the same "CreatorCode" too, so this is not it.
In fact I just verified that if I change the "Creator" info in a file that works, the FineReader software will not process it. But the problem is that just changing the "Creator" info in a file to "ScanSnap Manager" is not enough. Bummer...
So my dilemma is I can print a PDF file onto paper, then turn right around and scan it on the ScanSnap scanner and then FineReader will process it. But this is silly to have to print a file I already have the PDF of, let alone kill a few trees for the paper to print it on, in order to do the FindReader processing. Any suggestions??
So, the question still is, what exactly is the FineReader looking for and how do I change a PDF file to have it so that FineReader will process it??? Is there a utility that will add/edit this other CreatorTool and/or Creator info in the file???
    Thanks...

  • Error Message--ITunes runs in 64-bit mode. Uncheck the Open in 32-bit mode in Get info for ITunes. However it is UNCHECKED. I cannot access itunes at all. What now?

Error Message--ITunes runs in 64-bit mode. Uncheck the Open in 32-bit mode in Get info for ITunes. However it is UNCHECKED. I cannot access itunes at all. What now?

Fallout75, good catch on the eXo plugin.  To remove it, in the Finder click "Go" on the menu bar and pull down to "Go to Folder" and then type ~/Library/iTunes/iTunes Plug-ins
When that Finder window opens, you should see an "eXo" subdirectory.  Just delete that "eXo" folder and iTunes should start without the error.

  • Get Info for Multiple Albums message (but only one was selected)

Please can someone help? I was so full of hope when moving from Windows to the Mac but my hope is rapidly turning to despair.
I have spent several hours putting many of my favourite music CDs into iTunes. All was going well, but suddenly when accessing the “Get Info” of a particular album in order to add Artwork I got a message like “Are you sure you want to get the information of MULTIPLE items” (my emphasis). (The error message may not be word perfect because I clicked the “don't show again” box and haven't seen it since.)
But the point is that I definitely did NOT have multiple items selected. There is nothing I can now do to select “Get Info” for a single album, and as a consequence I will never be able to add Artwork again when necessary.
I looked through the Internet and found references to the com.apple.itunes.plist. However although I can see this using Terminal I cannot find it using Finder! (Why not?)
What on earth is going on? This is no better than Windows, and in fact rather worse: I tried to delete iTunes, since it is obviously corrupted in some obscure way, with a view to re-installing it. But I can't even do that because it is “needed by Mac Os x”!!
    Please can you help?

If you get info on an album, it contssts of multiple songs so it is multiple items.
But the point is that I definitely did NOT have multiple items selected. There is nothing I can now do to select “Get Info” for a single album, and as a consequence I will never be able to add Artwork again when necessary.
You still can get info for multiple items. Checking the Don't show this again box simply stops iTunes from telling you that you have selected multiple items. It will still get info and edit the info for multiple items.
I looked through the Internet and found references to the com.apple.itunes.plist. However although I can see this using Terminal I cannot find it using Finder! (Why not?)
Because by default, Finder searches do not show system files.
But the "problems" you are experiencing are not really problems (just not knowing how it works) and you don't need to mess with that file.

  • Get Info for alias does not show "Original" location

When I Get Info for an alias, no "Original" location shows. What must I do to see the original file location?

In addition to finding the location listed under the "General" pane of the info window (you might have to click the disclosure arrow), you can also go right to the original—meaning show it in its Finder window at the original location—by right clicking the alias and selecting "Show Original."

  • Available Space in 'Get Info' for HDD does not match with the files

I have a 75G HDD on this Macbook. The 'Get Info' for the HDD says I only have 1G of space available. However, when I go item by item in the HDD, and total the sizes myself, it only totals to 30G of space being used.
Anyone heard of this problem before? Are there files hiding somewhere? How can I get more useful space on this HDD?

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
use something like Disk Inventory; JDisk Report or OmniDisk Sweeper to really find out what is consuming your disk space.
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20598/jdiskreport
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14393/disk-inventory-x
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/7402/omnidisksweeper
OSX hides quite a lot of system files from the user for the sake of safety.
What to delete and what not is your choice.

  • How to get underline for a label?

    Hi All,
I need to get underline for a label text.how to get this one?
please help me to find out this?
    Regards,
    Lakshmi.

    Hi,
There is no option line under line but if you want a uline under a label
then there is other way of doing this.
After label create a element with property horizontal gutter.
This provides you a line under label. You can adjust the length of line using width .
and you can adjust the heigth of line using heigth(small)etc according to your
requirement. Also adjust ruletype by selecting from dropdown.

  • If I buy a mac with mountain lion and then upgrade to mavericks wil I get iWork for free, If I buy a mac with mountain lion and then upgrade to mavericks wil I get iWork for free

If I buy a mac with mountain lion and then upgrade to mavericks will I get iWork for free.

If you buy a new Mac with Mountain Lion, any included software is free and can be redownloaded from AppStore for that machine only. Some software only gets reinstalled if OS X (only) gets installed over itself to fix issues. See #8 Step here.
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
If you upgrade to Mavericks usually only OS X itself is changed (sometimes the hidden User Library is also), all the  software (and user accounts) also carries over (compatible or not), and Apple's software is upgraded.
So if your new Mountain Lion Mac comes with free iWork, then when you upgrade to Mavericks it will still be there.
If your new Mountain Lion does not come with free iWork, then it won't magically appear for free if you upgrade to Mavericks.
If you need a free Office suit, I suggest you look at the donationware LibreOffice.
You will likely need to control key or right click to "Open" LibreOffice to approve through OS X's "Gatekeeper".
You will need to manually update it also, as it's not on AppStore.
    https://www.libreoffice.org/
Benefit of LibreOffice is it's completely cross-platform compatible, so you can share working files with Windows and Linux users, which you can't with iWork.
You also should learn Microsoft Office when you have the funds, because it's standardized in the business world.

  • SSRS Sharepoint Integrated Mode logs - Cannot find site lookup info for request Uri AND [Forced due to logging gap]

    Hi,
Our reports run very slow in SharePoint Integrated mode. I look at the logs and I see that for one report request there are bunch of "Forced due to logging gap" rows. Is it some kind of a configuration issue or is it working as it should. Below
is the full log for one report request. I have no admin experience at all and I am confused what each one in the logs mean. I have made some of them in bold font as I suspect it is some kind of configuration issue there. Could you please help understanding

    Thank you.

That is likely the case as native mode is quicker than SharePoint-integrated.
A couple of things to check, and perhaps change if you can:
    1) Make sure the latest SSRS ReportViewer is deployed to the SharePoint WFEs. This does not have to match your SSRS deployment version. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg492257.aspx
    for the compatibility table.
    2) If possible, move SSRS to the same SharePoint servers that end users interact with (e.g. the "WFEs").
    3) Make sure the underlying server hosting SharePoint has C-States disabled (these are Intel C-States, e.g. C1, C2, C3... aka processor sleep states). If the server has any sort of power regulation, make sure it is at maximum performance (rather than some
    form of power saving).
    4) Make sure the underlying Windows OS has it's Power Management set to Maximum, rather than any sort of power savings.
You can review the execution logs in the Reporting Services database. Take a look at the ExecutionLog3 view. Compare the TimeProcessing (time it takes to process the report) and TimeRendering (time it takes for the processed report to render to the end user).

  • Get info for songs after importing?

Is there any way I can get info for songs in my library after I import them? I have a data CD that I would like to import and have iTunes get all of the information for me. Is this possile? Also if not is there anyway to check to make sure it got every songs, or to see what songs it couldn't get info for? I am using Windows.

    Are these MP3/AAC files?
They should have the info in the ID3 tags already.
If the songs were RIPped using iTunes, select the Album, then Advanced - Get CD track names.

  • Windows Explorer doesn't display some files until I play or get info for them in iTunes.

Windows Explorer doesn't display some files until I play or get info for them in iTunes.
How do I get them to all show up in Explorer without playing them all one by one?

I think I solved the problem by going to File -> Library -> Organize Library

  • The control click and external mouse right click no longer works when copying and pasting album art within itunes. Ex. Hit get info for one song to paste to the rest, copying the artwork wont work when it used to.

    Hello there, Teworsham90.
The following Knowledge Base article reviews the process of adding artwork to content in your iTunes Library:
