Mavericks has turned my retina MBP into a brick

Ive installed Mavericks and now I can only barely use safari as it keeps freezing along with error messages of "application memory has ran out" I have to then resume or force quit but eventually it freezes for good and all i can do is shut down.
Ive tried activity monitor and nothing seems wrong.
If I open any other app then everything freezes.
Im away from home and desparate to get back to normal,
any help would be appreceiated.
Thanks.

Look, the whole point of these forums is to provide help. If you have a particular issue, first search to see what others may have reported and then learned through the support provided here by other users. If you don't find something (a VERY rare occurance), then post your issue and ask for help in solving it. But general blanket statements and questions like these are only going to get you "me too" responses like Gulapple posted.
I can't believe that rolling back is not supported.
This should not be a surprise since downgrading iOS has never been supported. Not since the introduction of the original iPhone in 2007.
I can't believe that my iPad 2 is "supported" for iOS 8.
Why not? I have an iPad 2 running iOS 8.0.2 mostly well. Some issues, but nothing I either couldn't manage with a bit of trouble-shooting. Some issues remain that I hope and expect will be worked out in a coming release.
Is there anything I can do except throw it away and buy some other tablet?
Is this a rhetorical question or are you really considering throwing away your iPad? If so, let me know because I might be interested. Otherwise follow my advise and ask how to solve your specific issue.

Disable completely uninstall Krometch AV and firewall software per the instructions on the the app developer's website.
Your ISP's modem and if you use an additonal WiFi router, there are bulit-in firewall protection and there is software there you can access from a web browser to set stronger security from these devices.
OS X doesn't need any additonal third party software firewalls.
Uninstall Trusteer Rapport per the instructions on the software developer's website.
This app, usually, causes problems with any recent version of OS X.
You might want to go though your user login items to see which one's, if any! you really need to have start up once you are initially logged in to your Mac.
    Add or remove automatic items
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
    Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right.
You need to update all of your third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied.
You may need to go the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.
Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins, also.
Also, if you have any third party devices, like keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card  readers, etc, you need to update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions.
    Good Luck!

I Synced my new phone with updated iTunes, restored it from the backup from my old phone. Synced, restored, needed to update the iOS on the phone, couldn't do it, tried to restore, couldn't do it, so now the new phone is useless 'a brick'. • HT5455 Is It normal that my premium category 15" retina MBPs screen has ghosting issues, then I get declined from screen replacement?

Is It normal that my premium category 15" retina MBPs screen has ghosting issues, and I get declined from screen replacement?
I have purchased this hardware in Budapest for approximately 3000 usd. I was a bit shocked to see screen ghosting after a few days of use. The problem was getting worse but because I am a design consultant working mainly on my Mac I couldnt take a week off to leave It at an Apple service station.
Last week I was surprised to receive the information from the local Apple repair shop in Germany that my retina MBP that I bought 13 months ago was declined from screen replacement by Apple.
Considering the price of the product I find It unacceptable that I need to work on a defective product and see shadows every time I leave an Illustrator or InDesign window open for a short period of time.
Is there any way to resolve this issue? I wouldnt like to pay another 800 dollars just to replace a component on my defective Apple product.

Contact Apple Support directly.  In Germany the Expresslane or this number
0800 6645 451 will allow you to speak directly to someone from Apple.    Explain your situation.   Mind you, AppleCare and issues with Apple products like this have to occur without any user accidents or user installed parts to ensure that Apple will cover you.  If there was a user accident or installed part, you may be turned down.  If you have the original Apple parts, and did the installation yourself, replace it with the original parts very carefully following the directions on http://www.ifixit.com/ unless you can afford an authorized service provider to do it for you.  Since we don't speak for Apple here, being end users like yourself, that's why I say "may", as I've seen Apple handle these things on a case by case basis.  So hopefully you don't have any obvious damage that looks like it is user caused.   Good luck!

Sounds like the device was dropped at some point and damaged as a result.
Take it to Apple for evaluation and a replacement.

  • Suggestion on Used 'regular' MBP vs. Retina MBP 15"

    Hi there,
I'm planning to buy a Used MBP 15", and is trying to figure out which way to go. I outlined 3 options for myself:
    Used MBP 15" regular (none retina) of Late 2011-Mid 2012 models, with higher specs i.e. 8GB RAM, 500/750GB HDD (or get 4GB RAM and then upgrade it myself, as I heard it's very inexpensive);
Used MBP 15" Retina of average specs (8GB RAM and 256GB SSD). Would be about $300 higher than #1.
Refurbished MBP 15" Retina from Apple Store. Would be about $300 higher than #2 but with 1 year warranty.
I do not really need Retina for my purpose, but looking into it only from the future perspectives point of view (there might be a need for it in 2-3 years, and I assume resale value for those would be higher in 3 years or so). I would need speed and preferable bigger Internal storage (but can also live with 256GB SSD and the rest to be External).
As far as I heard older (non-retina) versions also more upgradable than retina ones.
What would be Apple/MBP folks suggestions on which way to go?
    Thanks in advance!

    For SSD-like speed:
Disk drive performance has improve dramatically compared to the disks that come in the non-Retina MBPs.  For around $110 you can get a Seagate 1 TB SSHD hybrid 2.5" drive that has an 8 GB SSD cache.  It provides SSD-like performance for a fraction of the cost of an SSD and with high capacity.
Installation instructions for RAM and disks are available at ifixit.com.
$5 toolkit with the tiny Phillips screwdrive to open the Mac and a torque screw driver for changin the disk:

Inexpensive USB 2.0 disk enclosure for chainging out the disk: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/ES2.5BPU2S/
Porting the data from the old drive to the new one is easy:
Install the new drive in the external enclosure.
Install OS X onto the new drive.
    Boot from the new drive.
Use Migration Assistant to copy data from the old drive to the new one.
Physically swap the two drives using the tutorial above.

  • No Apple Store within 150 miles of me...what happens if I buy a Retina MBP and need the battery changed??

I have a vintage 2006 17" MBP that has been a steadfast and reliable companion for years. It's aging, and will probably need replacing this year. I'm a wildlife artist and need something that accompanies me into the field, AND allows me to do a lot of image editing (Lightroom) at home and in the studio...so portability, horsepower, and screen size all matter.
I'm deeply concerned about purchasing a Retina MBP, since there is no Apple Store closer than a 3 hour drive to me - if I need the battery changed, how the **** do I do that? I can't imagine living without a computer during the days it would take to ship something back to Apple galactic HQ for repair, and I also can't imagine how Apple can in good conscience design something so unserviceable. My current MBP went through the bulging-battery thing a year ago, so it's easy to conceive of something happening to a new machine.
It's probably obvious, but I purchase the most I can afford at one time and then keep it for years before upgrading. I have to say I'm rather depressed about the current choices right now.
Thoughts?? ...and thank you for reading!

All MacBook Pro's come with Apple only servicable batteries now.
However the newer batteries are much better than the older verisons and less likley to fail.
For instance my 2 year old 17" has a 99% charge with only 14 cycles, but I'm  on power most of the time.
Problem for you is the life of the charge and not being able to put in a replacement charged battery on extended trips in the bush.
Also the Internet is required to reinstall the opearating system now, no disks.
Since there is no Apple laptop that can meet your requirements without dragging a portable gas generator with you...
I can only suggest you find a suitable PC laptop that can switch the charged batteries on location to keep on using it.
I highly suggest Windows 7, it's more closer to what your used to using on the Mac far as operating systems UI goes.
Windows 8 is a nightmare and it's adoption rate is very poor like Vista was.
Perhaps you may think about getting a wonderful iMac for your office.
