Mavericks - How do I fix my keyboard?

Since updating to Mavericks, my keyboard no longer offers alternative language choices for letters that would normally offer them when I hold down the key for the letter I want to change. As I switch frequently from Spanish to English, this is was really, really useful. Losing this ability is aggravating and I would like to remedy the sitation. If the solution happens to be removing Mavericks (however that's done), I'm fine with that since my coputer also happens to run slower since the update.

Various users have had problems with the Character Picker disappearing for no clear reason. You might try using the terminal commands mentioned here:

How do i fix my keyboard its typing symbols

Please assist me in my quest to fix my keyboard. I am currently typing from alternative computer. Just a few hours ago, my keyboard started typing in symbols and Latin instead of letters and not Latin. I did not do anything. I did not reset my language. WHAT IS GOING ON? HOW CAN I FIX IT?

I bought an iMac yesterday, and this morning it's doing the same thing. I've been asked to take it back to the store tomorrow, which is such a pain.
I have also found that in safari it will download the page instead of opening it, unless I open in a new window. It does the same thing in all apps, but only after you've been typing a few sentences, which all appear ok. I have tried disabling the alt key, which did not work, and checked languages etc, and all set to English....
Any thoughts? Thankfully my macbook is ok, otherwise I'd be really stuck!!

Try this.
- Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
- Quit the App Store
- In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)
- Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
- It will take you to a folder. Move com.apple.appstore to your desktop.
- Launch the App Store. Sign in and test. If okay, delete the file on your desktop. If no change, return the file to where you got it from.
You can also try resetting the App Store and Clearing Cookies.

How can I fix my keyboard if it is slow responding?

The keyboard on my iPhone has stopped responding. It is VERY slow when I try to type anything. I have turned off data on my iCloud settings, reset my settings, and even restored my phone (wiped it clean) but still no resolution. Please help. Need a fix.

Try holding the 'lock' and 'home' buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo, but from what you said I don't think that will help. If it doesn't, your only course of action is to take it to the Apple store and hope that it's under warranty.
If not, you can always go to Amazon and buy a new screen and digitizer and try to replace it yourself. Nothing to lose (:

My keyboard won't type after every restart. I have to always shutdown and take the battery out for about 5 minutes, reboot before I'm able to type. Please how can I solve this problem permanently?

How do I fix? Keyboard and mouse cannot enter data on IMAC

Both my wireless mouse and my wired keyboard cannot enter data. They are frozen out. But a wired mouse will work through the USB port on the back of my keyboard.

Time machine keeps OSX from updating to Mavericks - how do I fix?

Keep trying to update my old computer to Mavericks. It's currently at 10.6.8 and totally updated. Everytime I go to install Mavericks, when it gets to the window where you choose where to save it, I try to pick my Hard Drive but I get an error message that says I can't use hard drive because Time Machine is installed on that disc. I've gone in and deleted that program... I don't even use it. I don't know or care what time machine is... I just want to update my computer. But even after deletion, and a restart, I still get the same message.... HELP!

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Try these steps if you are not able to install Mavericks on your Mac hard drive due to a Time Machine backup.
Follow these steps so that you can install on the disk.
Important: You should have a current Time Machine backup on a different disk.
Note: If you do not need the backups that are located on your installation volume, you can simply erase the volume with Disk Utility instead of following these steps. Erasing the disk will result in all loss of all data on it, so be sure you have backup copies of any data before erasing.
Start up from the disk you want to install on.
Move the "Backups.backupdb" folder from the root level of your hard drive to the Trash. Enter your admin password if prompted.
Important: Do not empty the Trash unless you have a backup on a different disk and want to delete the Time Machine backups from this disk.
Move the "Backups.backupdb" folder from the Trash to the desktop.
Install.

My 2009 MacBook Pro is slow to sleep - running mavericks - how do I fix?

MacBook now takes 30-45 seconds to sleep and then wakes by itself later on. Have checked for old printer q's and found none. Operating wirelessly with new apple router off comcast cable modem. Used to sleep immediately and stay until awakened. Any helps?

pennbank is correct that holding the power button will stop the computer. But it stops *all* processes mid-step, which can leave some of OSX in an incorrect state because of pending internal file updates that were killed. I do not like to use that method if anything else will make it respond. For example, once the computer was not responding when I was using a BT trackpad. I eventually removed the batteries from the trackpad to force it dead, and the release of the BT channel freed the MBP.

Whenever i press the enter key it writes the letter p and a space, the same with the P key, also the 0 and the ' key don't work at all. If it's not a hardware problem how can i fix this? when you say that “you’ve tried everything”, does everything include having made an appointment at an Apple store to have them diagnose the problem?

Installed mavericks server and now some users don't have access to folders!? Why and how do I fix it???

I have just upgraded the server and os to mavericks and now users that used to be able to open and save or even log in are now locked out with the server saying wrong password. I reset their password and still nothing. I created a new user and they can't even log in? Why now? And how do I fix this. It seems that some users and groups now don't have access and all that was done was to let the group open a shared folder that they have access before. I reset everything and am now very frustrated!!!

I decided to go back to Mountain Lion for my server using TimeMachine backup, and stay with Maverick for my imacs
Work well again
Until Apple will communicate on it or deliver a patch, i would suggest to do the same

Accidental damage is not covered under Apple warranty. And it seems there is much accidental damage. Only a Genius Bar tech looking at it can tell how much it will cost to repair.
Cost to repair will be high, I suspect (though Genius Bar will confirm/deny.
There is no gentle way to say this sir/ma'am ... someone will need to pay for your friend's MBA repairs.

It seems your iPhone is slowing down and not responding frequently. To rectify this issue you may want to consider performing a restore on the device, and then restoring your data from a backup via iCloud or iTunes.

Check Finderr->Preferences->General and ensure that HDs are selected for display. If so and they still don't, Reset the NVRAM/PRAM and Reset the SMC, and see if that does the trick.
