Mavericks install freezes "less than a minute" and initialized two MacBooks at forced restart

Tonight I finally decided to install Mavericks in a new MacBook Air 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7, and an older MacBook Pro 15", were Mountain Lion was previously installed.
In both macs the install process freezed at "less than a minute" for long time, too long, so that I wrongly decided to force shut down, and when I restarted both macs were initialized as brand new machine, with all prevoius data lost...
Luckily I have time machine back-up of both and now I am recovering from it.
Maybe I am wrong to force quit from install process, but how can it be that I encountered the same situation in two machines?
I also encountered the same less than a minute issue with Mountain Lion when I moved data from the older MacBook Pro to the new Air, but after shutting off, the Air started to work correctly.
What the **** is this freezing status? I am not sure I will be trying again to install Mavericks since I get a solution for this. And I am very frustrated not to see Mac stuff runnning smoothly as ever.

I did two installs and with each one when it stated less than one minute it took 10.  Need to patient and it will finish.  Something wrong with the timing indicator i guess.

  • Just tried installing an update to OS.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard.  Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3.  During installation, it locked up.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.  What do I do now?  Help!

Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.
    Then download this:

This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.

    Try:

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer

  • Bought my 1st iPhone today (4S)  Just started using for less than 5 minutes and it has a voice command that talks on Everything and the pages wont scroll up and down and cant change screens from the page it boots on.  Wrong apps open when I open an app...

So I bought my wife our 1st iPhone 4S today w/ Verizon.  I booted it up and it started having a voice repeat every command, and function (no, its not Siri).
BTW...  Siri doesn't work, I can't scroll in the settings, when I open an app it actually opens the wrong app, and I can't find a way do fix any of it.  I tried a hard boot by holding down the power button and the button on the lower midddle of the phone.  When it rebooted, it got worse.  Now what?
Not too excited about switching phones if this has already begun...  Any advice would be appreciated.

  • Osx Lion reinstall stuck at less than a minute

hhere is the deal. I had to reformat my mid 2012 MacBook Pro after it would freeze up after startup. I reformatted and everything went fine other than the 7 hours it took. I went to reinstall osx lion and it gave me a total time of 12 plus hour. Now it has been stuck at less than a minute for almost an hour. I'm totally nervous that all this time has been wasted for this stupid macbook to just freeze up again. Any suggestions or is this normal??

I've got the exact same problem. My mac started to freeze up at random. This made it impossible to use. After I tried to reinstall everything, by potentially thinking that it might be some vius, or corruption. I've now been trying to reinstall eveything for aprox 6 hours and I'm stuck at 'less than one minute' and been so for around 2 hours.

  • 1 million row full table scan in less than one minute?

    All,
a customer has a table which is around 1 million rows.
The table size is 300 Mo.
The customer wants to calculate regular arithmetic operations,
and synthetic data on the whole table. He will use 'group by'
    statements and 'sort by'.
He wants to know if it would be possible to get the results in
less than one minute, and what would be the necessary
architecture in order to achieve this?
He currently has a 4 Gb Ram machine, 4 processors (I think...).
    It's a 7.3 database.
Would an upgrade to 8i or 9i help? Would partitioning help?
Would parallel query help? What else?
There will be no other concurrent requests on the system.
    Thanks!

    Hi
If you have four processors parallel query will increase speed
of executing your statement. It will work better with
partitions. In version 7.3 is not very easy to manage partitons
because you have not partition tables - you have only partition
views. Maybe the speed is the same but management of partition
views is not so easy. So in version 8i and 9i it will be better.
If you have index for group by columns and they are 'NOT NULL'
it will be additional way of increasing speed beacause you will
    eleminate sort operation.

  • Firefox freezes when I open it after less than a minute of searching. It freezes regardless of the website I'm on. I've tried reinstalling it several times and have even tried a clean reinstall but it didn't work.

When I open it, Firefox freezes after less than a minute of use. After waiting a few minutes, it unfreezes but then freezes again a few seconds later. This happens regardless of the website I'm on. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling it and the problem didn't go away. I've even tried a clean reinstallation but it didn't work. This only happens on Firefox. IE and Safari work fine.

  • Lion install hangs at less than 1 minute

Downloaded and installed Lion accepting the limitations of installing to a raid partition (2 x 2tb raid 0). Suggested would take 33 minutes to install 8 hours ago and now it's stuck at less than 1 minute. Any suggestions? Thanks

When I installed Lion Server I wasn't even given any options related to installing on a RAID partition. My install hung up and that was that. And because there was no recovery disk there was no way to rescue what was obviously a problem.
My own experience was using RAID 1 ( mirrored boot disk ).  I split the mirror, recovered Snow Leopard from a Time Machine backup using the Snow Leopard server install disk onto the primary disk from the mirror ( now reformatted as a regular disk ).  Then installation proceeded with no hitches at all.
Once installation was complete I rebuilt the RAID mirror and the installation is now working.
However, I can't offer you help with the RAID 0 stripe. All I do know is that all attempts to try and install onto my RAID array ( whether reading about limitations on the Apple website or not ) led to failure and the machine being stuck in a boot/install failure cycle.
Once I had my server with a regular 'normal' hard drive things proceeded as expected.
Now I have the joy of looking into my Console and seeing thousands of failures floating up the screen ready for more remediation work :-(.
