Mavericks installed but app store shows "download" not "installed"

I installed Mavericks on my new (Christmas 2013 Macbook Air) and updated all other apps associated with Mavericks.  When I visit the app store it shows download on Mavericks app but all others show "installed".
I checked the app installed and in "about this mac" it shows I have 10.9.1.  Why won't the app store show it is installed and should I do something else to complete the install?

Asked and answered a zillion times since the advent of OS X Lion as a direct download. Please do a forum search before posting.
The Mac App Store is about apps, not whether an OS is installed. What you got from the MAS was an app, the OS X Mavericks Installer. It self-deletes when it finishes successfully installing the OS. The reason it says Download is in case you need to download the installer app again.

  • Fresh Lion install, but App Store says some programs installed

I've just done a complete wipe and reinstall of Lion on my Mac Mini (don't ask!), When I first loaded up App Store it said that two of my Apps were already installed! How can that be?! And can I do anything about it?
I've tried loggin out and back in. And I've done a deep level search for anything relating to the two programmes, but nothing shows up (I did a root level search).
The 2 Apps are EagleFiler and Skitch
    thanks.

    David ..
Since the App Store is relatively new there's likley to be bugs.

This tip helped another user but doesn't work for everyone.
Drag the App Store icon straight up off the Dock so it goes, "poof" ..
Now go to the Applications folder and drag the App Store icon to the Dock.
Restart your Mac, launch the App Store to see if that made a difference. It certainly can't hurt anything.

  • I have been download lion last night and it stopped. i tried again but APP Store show installed. How can I retry to install?

I have tried to install lion last night and it stopped by slow internet connection. I paid through App Store and i tried again today but APP Store show installed. How can I install again?

If you cannot resume the download, try to start the Installation Application in your /Applications Folder. If that does not work, delete the Installation Application and try to reload it. If that still does not work, contact Apple would be my best tipp

  • I purchased iPhoto after installing Yosemite, but App store shows the download is "waiting"

I purchased iPhoto after installing Yosemite, but App store shows the download is "waiting", with a greyed out box that says pause.

    Hi exyankee,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, an app is stuck on waiting. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

  • I have downloaded Mavericks and yet the App store shows "download" under purchases.  Why? Do I keep downloading?

I have previously downloaded Mavericks and yet the App store shows "download"  I did and now I have done it twice.  Today i noticed that 4 apps were marked update and yet they have been updated earlier.    Why does it still say "download"

It will allow you to download again, but you do not have to do so.
If you Sign Out and then Sign In does it still show these status marks?  Do you get the update red badge on the App Store icon, or only in the Purchases area?

  • App store shows "download" when already installed.

Why does the app store show mountain lion ready to "download" when I have already installed mountain lion? Do i need to download and reinstall?

Well, because the App Store is only concerning itself with the Mountain Lion _installer_ (which is an application) and not the OS itself.
The OS will be updated via Software Update, as it always is.  Note that in Mountain Lion that Software Updates appear in the App Store application, but this doesn't mean they're actually delivered _via_ the App Store.  Software Updates for non-Mac-App-Store applications are delivered as they always were, just with a different front-end UI.  It can be confusing ;-)

  • 10.9 installed but App store still says "download"

I've installed 10.9 but when I check the App store for updates it still says "download" not "installed" on the Mavericks page. Why is it not recognizing that I've already installed and am using it?

In case you want to re download Mavericks on your other Macs, it's available.
You can also use that download to create a bootable USB >  Video Tip: Creating a bootable Mavericks USB installer - TUAW
Otherwise, just ignore the Download button.

  • Need to reinstall system software but App Store says "downloaded."

I have been waiting for an answer from Apple support, in vain. Does anyone here know how to reinstall the system software if you don't have the disks, and the App Store says "downloaded?"
Or do I have to wait until Apple somehow wakes up and resets my purchase?
I wish they had sent me disks.. Sigh.

There are no longer any system disks, everything is downloadable now. The installer deletes itself after a successful install, so you need to save a copy before using it.
If you need to reinstall OS X you now use OS X Recovery.

If you need to upgrade another Mac you own, then log into the Mac App Store on that Mac and download the installer to that Mac from the Purchases pane.

  • Installed Maverics but App Store shows I still need to download it?

I installed Maverics over the weekend and by most accounts things went well. However, when I log into the App Store to check for updates it shows that I still need to download Maverics (full 5.2GB download not just an update). Anyone else seeing this?

    Try re-indexing Spotlight.

  • App Not In Applications folder, but App Store says it's installed.

Anybody have any ideas on this?
One of my apps is missing from my Applications folder, so I went into the app store to try to re-download it, however the application store says the App in question is installed...
There is a 'free' version of the same app in the app store, so I decided to try downloading it, which works, but again the full version of the App is still missing...

    Neither of these ideas apply...
Prior to exausting everything I could think of, the free version was not installed, and in fact had never been 'purchased' (it did not show up in my purchases list, and the button on it read 'free' instead of 'install')...
The first thing I did was a spotlight search for JPEGmini, with no results comming up.
I then went into the App Store which is when I found that it was reported as installed.
I proceeded to use the Terminal app to try and determine if a hidden flag had been set on the app in the Applciatons folder (rendering it present but invisible), but was able to confirm there was no applicable hidden item...
It was then that I 'bought' and downloade the free version, just to see if it would work.  It worked as expected, and even upon deleting the app the 'INSTALLED' indicator in the App Store went back to an 'INSTALL' button...
I've since removed the free version but am still unable to install the full version...

  • I Have Lion installed but App Store now says INSTALL and now it has schanged to DOWNLOAD - What is going on!

I have Lion installed on my MacBook Pro but recently the App Store has changed from greyed-out INSTALLED to a dark status INSTALL and changed yet again to DOWNLOAD. I have no idea what is going on with the App Store BUT I do NOT want to re-install Lion again! Does anyone know why this is happening? Any help appreciated. I have spoke many times to iTunes Support staff and technical staff - They seem just as baffled as myself............

Actually, simply downloading the new installer will not result in reinstalling Lion unless you click on the Install button after the installer starts up on your computer. Instead just quit the installer and copy the installer from your Applications folder to your Downloads folder for safe keeping. And, you can use it to make your own USB flash drive installer:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

  • An app icon dissappeared, but app store shows it was intalled.

I installed Candy Crush Saga on my ipad 3 (iOS 6.1.2), the icon showed installing on desktop but dissappeared after installtion finished. The game is shown as installed in the "purchased items" in the App store, and I can open it from the app store. How can I let the icon to show on the desktop? I already restart my ipad many times. and i've reset my desktop layout with not luck.  I could uninstall and reinstall the app from the app store. Please help.

How many homescreens do you have on your iPad ? There is a limit of 11, after which apps are only accessible via the spotlight search screen, or the app store. If you do have 11 screens then you could move your apps into folders so as to make more of them accessible via the screens - you can either create folders directly on the iPad, or via the screen mock-ups on the iPad's Apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes

    Hi guys,
I have problem with my apps store in iOS 7
I installed some apps before, but the apps icon is missing after the download finish
I tried to re-donwload the apps in apps store, but it says "open", not "install", and when i press that "open" button, nothing happen
And i already tried to find my downloaded apps using spotlight search and nothing comes out
    Anyone got same problem?

    Hello Tom,
Thanks for replying. FCPX was on the hard drive in my iMac. After I had deleted FCPX as stated in the Apple article I powered iMac down, disconnected the Time Machine backup drive & powered up the iMac. Loaded App Sore.app to re-down load FCPX but the App Store will not let me because it thinks it is already loaded. I went through the FCPX delete procedure again to check if anything was still loaded, there was nothing to re delete.
    Regards

  • App Store show update on installed apps

Strange behavier happened today I check my purchases list on App Store and i saw on some apps update status so i press Update but app say that I muss use my account to download them (i dont have any other so i delete this app) next i download that app again and after download still see Update on this app so there is some strange bug. Is that known bug or some permission problems?

Thank you, but does that mean they changed the App Store at the server and its; no longer compatible with older versions? Would they/could they do that w/o informing us? I had no plans to upgrade until the bugs are worked out...

  • I downloaded mac os lion last night but didn't install. App store says I've installed it but I can't find where it is on my computer

why didn't os x lion install on my Macbook Pro?

The installation should have been automatic when you downloaded it.  Do you have the new lion features (like mission control, new scrolling bars, airdrop etc.)?  If you do, there is no problem.
