Mavericks Internet Sharing: Access logs

Hey all,
I just got internet sharing (ethernet to wifi) up and running a while back..
The thing is that when I enter the password on my other laptop it doesn't authenticate, I have a feeling that it's related to the password use or transfer upon login.. Is there a log or a monitor mode of which users are authenticating on my SoftAP and which credentials they use?
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

Hi Pagnamen.
Attached is the menu that I operate Internet Sharing from, as well as what my toolbar looks like when internet sharing is active. In order to turn Internet Sharing on, I go through System Preferences-->Sharing and tick the box you can see highlighted in the bottom left. I have three difficulties:
1. A problem i've had since I have started using the feature (in Mountain Lion). I will have Internet Sharing on for an extended period of time before it simply ceases to send an internet signal.
2. Another problem I have had since I started using the feature. I will begin Internet Sharing and the computer will believe it is operating normally. My iOS devices will receive the connection but will not be able to access the internet. Since Mavericks, this behaviour occasionally continues even after I cancel Internet Sharing...turning wifi off and on again seems to address this anomaly.
3. A new problem originating since my update to Mavericks. I will start Internet Sharing and the "Sharing Icon" (being the grey arrow attached) will appear for only a split-second before being replaced with the standard airport look. My computer will then be hunting for Wifi signals and give no sign that it is Internet Sharing. When this occurs, my devices do not register any wifi. The only solution is to restart my computer, often multiple times. This seems to address the issue.
I will also note that the first two issues have worsened since my update to Mavericks. This means that I can often spend an incredible amount of time simply trying to secure any form of connection that is sustainable.
Thanks again for any help you can render.

Thanks, indeed there's not a lot there.
I was thinking that there might be a network reset option on my Snow Leopard Mac Book, like I've had a to do a time or two on my iOS devices that suddenly stop seeing the internet. Since I didn't know what that is, I set up a clean TEST user account. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to change anything, so perhaps the internet network settings are global. Any ideas how to reset the network settings and clear them out completely?
Hard to believe that there could be something so different between Mavericks and Snow Leopard as far as common network protocols are concerned that allows one to be plug and play and the other to connect to the network but not see the internet. Could it be the hardware? A 2007 MacBook vs. a 2011 MacBook Pro?

  • Mavericks Internet Sharing requiring restarts

    Hey all,
I have been using Internet Sharing on my mid-2011 Macbook Air to provide internet to my iPhone and iPad (through ethernet) for the past few months. While I was running the latest incarnation of Mountain Lion, I often had difficulties with the network being available, but no internet connection being made. I often solved this problem by turning Sharing off and back on again.
Since my upgrade to Mavericks, I have experienced a different problem. I will turn on Internet Sharing and for less than half a second the sharing symbol (the grey wifi symbol with an arrow in it) will appear, before reverting to normal (normal being that the computer is searching for wifi signals). Even though Internet Sharing is 'on', neither of my iOS devices can detect the signal, and there is no indication that the macbook is even broadcasting it.
Often I will need to restart the computer 3-4 times before it works as intended.
Is there anything that I can do to minimise or eliminate this problem?

  • Lumia 920 - internet sharing doesn't work: Connect...

    Hello all,
I'm experiencing a serious problem with the lumia 920. It seems impossible to share my internet connection. Something I normally use for several hours a day. If this problem can't be fixed soon, ill be forced to swithc back to iphone or htc.
    Problem description:
    When turning "internet sharing" on:
Connection not shared - There is no cellular data connection to share right now. Check your cellular settings and signal, and try again.
    Important remarks
Belgium - cellular provider is Mobistar
I can browse, sync email, etc over the provider's network ans send and receive MMS.
Provider does not block internet sharing. Have always used this.
    OS Version 8.0.10211.204
    Firmware revision: 1232.5957.1308.0002
    Access point :
     Nokia Access Point version:3.4.1.7 - db 2.0.0.100 - lib 1.2.0.7
The default access point provided in the Nokia Access Point app does not work: can't even browse.
     Using a manually added APN:
Data type (default / LTE) tried both. Everything keeps working - except internet sharing...
     APN pro.web.be  (for professional subscribers)
    MMS APN mms.be
    MMSC address: https://mmsc.mobistar.be
What have i tried to remedy the situatiuon?
updated the Nokia Access Point app
changed language to spanisch using OTA update (silly, but read on a forum this might help)
soft reset of the phone (often!)
deleted the manually created access point
     Hard reset of my phone
I'm interested, of course, in any tips to solve this serieus bug / issue / problem.
(my best guess is that Nokia tries to help their customers with the Access point app, but fails to do so).
Please, if any of you experience the same problem please respond to this post so we can get an idea about how big of a problem this is.

    Hi,
I had the same problem. But I let it go after weeks of corresponding with Mobistar.
Yesterday I went to a Mobistar shop, the guy tried lots of thing I already tried (different apn's, ...).
Then he told me the it's a problem with business clients. They have to use the apn web.pro.be, where internet sharing doesn't work (he doesn't know why).
But, that if I call to Mobistar and ask to activate apn mworld.be on my telephone number, it should work.
Today I called Mobistar Business (you can find the helpdesk number on your invoices), asked to activate mworld.be to have internet sharing access on a windows phone.
Half an hour later, using mworld.be as apn i have internet access, and I can share my internet connection.
    regards,
    Stijn

  • Slow access to local WebServer using Internet Sharing

    Hi,
I have a MacPro with a WLAN. Sometimes I use internet sharing to access the internet with my iPhone. When using the "Browse the Web" feature of Goodreader to access some files on my MacPro it took very long until I get a directory listing on the iPad (only a dew files and folder). The other Way aroung (using the Goodreader intergrate WebServer an access this from my desktop is quite fast.
The desktop has an IP Number 192.168.1.2 the iPad someting with 10.xx.xx.xx. Putting the into the same ip number schema (using a wieeless router) works fine in both directions.
Any idea why the server is so slow?
    Leif

    Hi,
I don't know if any of you came up with an answer to this problem, because I have the exact same problem.
I use version 5.0.01.0600 of the VPN Client. Windows Explorer hangs for a couple of seconds and then works fine for a couple of seconds and then hangs for a couple of seconds, etc. When logged on in Windows XP with a user with administrator rights this problem doesn't occur. Only when logged on with a Restricted user (Users Group) does this problem occur.
    Hoping you can help,

    Hi Maverick .
You can find corrupted blocks with query on V$DATABASE_BLOCK_CORRUPTION
select *  from V$DATABASE_BLOCK_CORRUPTIONif you have full backup(s) then you can use block media recovery with RMAN
    run
    BACKUP VALIDATE DATABASE;
    BLOCKRECOVER CORRUPTION LIST;
} if you are using Oracle Database 11g, you can use recovery advisor like as
advise failure all; and see : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28273/rcmsynta033.htm#CHDEBHBI

I cannot get my iMac with built-in airport wi-fi to allow internet connections to Nook and PS3. The devices access the network, but internet connection fails. Internet sharing is enabled, network security (WEP, WPA) is disabled.  What to check next?

On an additional note, I've purchased a wireless router and everything connected on the first attempt.  It just vexes me that the built-in wireless isn't working as a router.  Is this another example of "Mac only plays with Mac"?

  • Accessing Server when only connected via Internet Sharing

Currently, I don't have the ability to directly connect my Mac Pro which I use as a Server to the router as I have no direct access to it via cable and it does not have an Airport card.
However, I can access the internet on it if I use internet sharing on my iMac which is connected via Gigabit Ethernet to the Mac Pro at all times.
In order to use any of the services such as Time Machine from another machine, I always need to connect it directly by cable. This leaves me wondering if there is a way to tunnel the Mac Pro through the iMac so it is accessible via Wifi? Is there a setting on either Machine I have to activate / set to make this work?
It is only thought to be a temporary solution until I move to a new flat where it will be directly connected to an Airport Extreme.
    Thanks for your help!

Seems that the issue is something to do with connecting via WPA2. When I set Internet Sharing to use WEP (by option-clicking the security menu), I'm then able to see the network shares and the printer.

  • Using AppleScript to simplify Internet-Sharing on Mavericks

Hi, guys ! I am here seeking for a solution to my problem when I intend to simplify the workflow of Internet-Sharing through System Preference.
I used to do it like this -----click "Sharing" on the System PreferencePane-- Click "Internet Sharing" -- Click "Turn on Wi-Fi" -- Click "start". Here is my script which can be complied successfully :
tell application "System Preferences" to activate
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "System Preferences"
    tell menu bar 1
    tell menu bar item "View"
    delay 1
    tell menu 1
    click menu item "Sharing"
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell

do shell script "/usr/sbin/networksetup -setairportpower en1 off"

error "System Events got an error: Can’t get window \"Sharing\" of process \"System Preferences\"." number -1728 from window "Sharing" of process "System Preferences"
However, if I run the script after activating the System Preference manually,  it works perfectly. So I am here seeking for an solution to my problem, any suggestion would be appreciated ! Thank you ! By the way, I am running Mac OS X 10.09 Maverick now.

After installing Yosmite, The following message is stopping me accessing my disk utility.  'You can't use this version of the application “Disk Utility” with this version of OS X.' you have “Disk Utility” 12.1.1.
not only that my Mac pro keeps dropping my internet connection and logs on to BT Open.
    Help

For whatever reason you don't have the Yosemite version of Disk Utility which is 13. I suggest you reinstall Yosemite.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Download and install the 10.10.1 update.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Check that you have the current version of Disk Utility.

  • Weird system log error when internet sharing is enabled

When I enable internet sharing, my system log starts to fill up with messages like this:

There is a preexisting thread on this topic which confirms that others have this problem as well.

  • Internet Sharing stopped working on Mavericks (10.9)

I've used to use my Internet Sharing in my home through my MacBook Pro. Lately, it's not working and sometimes it back to work correctly. But now it's not working with me. I don't know what is the problem!
Is there any popular issues with this problem? or is there any other sloutions to recover it again! I am using USB Modem for the internet.

    Hi, UnderEu,
I think to uninstall "AirParrot", "DiskplayLink" or simmialr Apps in Mavericaks, not only you have to move the Apps to Trash Bin, But also you need to uninstall their Audio & Video drivers & Settings. (which is the reason case the Crash of the system)
For the case of AirParrot, you need to do following command in Terminial Line to clear out the driver and setting:
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/APExtFramebuffer.kext
    sudo rm -rf /Library/Extensions/AirParrotDriver.kext

  • Mavericks 10.9.2 Internet sharing prob after updgrade from 10.6.8, any solutions?

    Hello World!
Here I am going to tell you my woe story which is, I finally decided to upgrade to 10.9.2 from my a little worn 10.6.8, and was very happy with a choice until stumbled upon the complete failure with establishing the Internet sharing for surrounded devices with wi-fi interfaces. Just the way it does just perfectly with 10.6.8!
Actually the network interface appears to be started but connected devices are no longer available to espablish any conection with it.
I never had deleted nothing, or changed a something tricky, I am not ageek at all.
    Please help?

Same here from 10.9.1 to 10.9.2 internet sharing using WiFi won't work. I can see the little upper arrow flashing then it seems to be looking to connect over wifi instead of sharing it.

My internet sharing is not working since I upgraded to Yosemite. When I switch on sharing and try to share my ethernet internet connection via wifi my iPhone 5s is not able to even see the Wifi network that should have been created. This used to work perfectly when I was on Mavericks.

    Hi,
If your sister is on 10.5.x there is a "known issue" with Internet Sharing if it is On (even if nothing is attached as it were) and iChat.
The upshot is in OS 10.5.x Internet Sharing has to be Off.
If it is On because of Parallels then the two VPNs that are also created need also turning Off in System Preferences > Network and Parallels told to gets it's Own IP from the Routing device (Which she of course does not have).
What happens is Internet Sharing invokes the AMc to be a router and issues IPs to the devices connected.
This is turn provide s route to the Internet.
Unfortunately in Leopard (10.5.x) iChat can see this route to the Internet even if it is a WiFi able Mobile phone.
iChat cannot resolve tow connection to the Internet.
