Mavericks is corrupt

Trying to download Mavericks; it keeps saying the file is corrupt. My time machine backups are gone. What do I do?

These are two separate issues. Most importantly:
My time machine backups are gone.
If you don't have backups, that's first priority. No installing Mavericks for you until you have a good set of backups! For that matter, no doing anything for you until you have a good set of backups. Since one possibility here is that you have a problem with your hard drive, you need to act extremely fast and hope that none of your data is damaged.
Trying to download Mavericks; it keeps saying the file is corrupt.
Once you have the backups taken care of, there are several things that could cause this kind of thing. One is a corrupt hard drive, so repair the hard drive with Disk Utility. Another is a problem with your network connection that is corrupting the data, so try downloading on another network. It could also be caused by some third-party software you have installed, so if all else fails, try downloading while in safe mode. It's also always possible that a transient problem on Apple's end was causing the problem, in which case it should be cured by the time you're trying again.

    Low bandwidth?
    The issue is that you need to restore OS X using OS X Recovery and that requires a high speed broandband connection.
    How did you download Mountain Lion?   That was a 4.35GB file.

  • Mavericks regularly corrupts the file system

    Hi,
    I have a 2010 Macbook Pro, 13" with a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo. I have OS X Mavericks, along with a copy of Windows 8 on my bootcamp partition.
    I have a recurring problem, which happened three times already. It started in July. So I turned the computer on (after it beeing turned off normally), and I was just blocked on the booting screen, i.e the gray screen with the apple (but no loading wheel). So I had no other choice but to press the on/off button for several seconds, until the computer turned off.
    Then I tried to turn it on again, and it started in safe boot mode. When the loading bar was full, it would turn off on its own.
    I tried to use the Disk repair utility in the recovery partition, but it displayed a message like "Disk cannot be repaired, reinstall Mac OS"
    Fortunately, I have my Windows partition, which I could still boot on. So I was able to backup almost all the data I needed. I said almost, because with some files, the copy-paste process would just fail, telling me that the files were corrupted.
    I then reinstalled Mavericks from scratch, and it worked perfectly... for three weeks. then I had the exact same problem. Same problem, same solution, I again lost a lot of time backing up and reinstalling, again losing some data on the road.
    And back to the present, today, guess what, same problem ! So I am getting a bit tired of that, and given that college has started, I really don't have time to waste every three weeks for fixing that.
    I would be really glad and thankful if you could help me with that issue.
    Thank you,
    Gaetan

  • Can Mavericks become corrupt due to overheating?

    This is a pretty oddball question, I understand, but I am just hoping someone can shed some light. In the past few days I have had OSX 10.9.2 become what I believe is corrupt. It gets stuck on the white apple logo screen during boot. The mouse can be moved around on this screen, but only in the top left hand corner of the screen (almost like a mask on the other 75% and it goes behind it). I have reinstalled Mavericks twice now and it fixes the issue, but I'm afraid it might happen again. To add context to this issue, I play Diablo 3 on it, and have been for a few weeks now. This just happened the other day and there is a known memory leak they are planning to patch shortly. I am not certain if this has caused hardware issues due to possible overheating. I idle around 70 degrees celsius (iStats). I can do some more digging later, but I thought I would post to see if anyone has experienced something similar or has any insight on to what this might be (software vs hardware).

    2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    8 gb memory
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1gb

    I would just wait until they fix the memory issue before playing it again. Heat can't cause software corruption, only hardware.
    I hope I solved your question.

  • Mavericks Preview corrupts image file

    I am running Mavericks on iMac circa 2011.  I can use Preview to open 16 bit tiff image files which are 1 or 2 MB each.  Because the pixel values are small, I use the Auto Level button within the Adjust Color tool to see a decent image.  However, if I then close the file by clicking on the x on the top left corner of the image, the saved image will now have zeros in the entire image.  That is, opening it again will not show anything even with the Adjust Color tool   I checked by opening it with MATLAB and sure enough, everything is zero.  This does not occur if I do not try to adjust the image contrast using the Auto Level tool.   This also does not occur if I hit the 'Reset' button within Adjust Color before closing the file.  Please help!

  • Finder corrupted

    Everytime I have the App Store update OS X Mavericks, it corrupts some of my Finder dylibs and other files. The only solution I can think of is re-installing OS X Mavericks with the newest one and that fixes it. I'm wondering if people might know of an easier way to restore all the Finder dylibs so that I would'nt have to do a full system re-install. As for now, I'm going back to downloading the Update files online rather than using the App Store because I never had a problem with the downloaded files from Apple, even though I bet both use the same files. The only problem is that my App Store randomly errors out every time but Safari never does. This is the primary cause of corrupted system installs since App Store leaves off where it stopped during the error. Sorry I rant too much.

    Okay, so my com.apple.appkit.xpc.openAndSavePanelService fails to run properly and it just hangs when those open/save panels popup and it happens throughout the entire system. So I can't open files and save new files within apps. Any short easy help? Or is my only option a re-install?

  • AddressBook corrupt and Internet Passwords wiped

    Hello--
    SOHO network running from ML 10.8.5/Server 2.2.2.  My primary workstation upgraded to Mavericks.  After spending most of last week rebuilding the server and getting other things fixed, I had hoped to be doing work this week.  Unfortunately, the system, in particular my account on Mavericks, remains unreliable (I never thought I'd say this but good thing I had Windows running in a VM so I got some work done!).
    The particular problem seems to include at least three issues, which may in part be related.
    1) Corruption/zero out of local copy of addressbook (AddressBook-v22.abcddb).  My addressbook is served from the ML server which, thus far, has remained intact.  However, I find the locally synced copy on Mavericks gets corrupted and then wiped.  Here are part of the log entries when this seemed to occur last:
    12/9/13 10:44:25.934 AM CalendarAgent[201]: Database file is empty: /Network/Servers/<path_to_user_home>/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/<a long uid>/AddressBook-v22.abcddb
    12/9/13 10:44:29.101 AM CalendarAgent[201]: Database file is empty: /Network/Servers/<path_to_user_home>/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/AddressBook-v22.abcddb

UserInfo=0x7fade0c27a20 {NSFilePath=/Network/Servers/<path_to_user_home>/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/<a long uid>/AddressBook-v22.abcddb.8CA923C4-4447-46F4-B9F4-CC6C5B36A0E7.unknown, reason=Failed to replace destination database} {

        reason = "Failed to replace destination database";
    And another entry indicates the Addressbook-v22.abcddb file is corrupted.
    I also can note that I had a profile set up through Profile Manager that aimed to log users off after 30 minutes of activity.  The profile has not executed successfully yet on either Lion or Mavericks clients.  Because it wasn't work, I removed it today.
    My first console entry this morning when I tried to use the computer which was hung on Reminders trying to logout:
    12/9/13 5:50:23.147 AM AddressBookSourceSync[4917]: 0x7faa506328a0: ManagedObjectContext (ABAddressBook) could not create the store at path: </Network/Servers/<path_to_user>/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Sources/<a long uid>/AddressBook-v22.abcddb> - creation error: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=134090 "A timeout error occurred while connecting to the persistent store." UserInfo=0x7faa5062eac0 {NSSQLiteErrorDomain=5, NSUnderlyingException=error during SQL execution : The database operation timed out after 44321.40 seconds.} {
        NSSQLiteErrorDomain = 5;
        NSUnderlyingException = "error during SQL execution : The database operation timed out after 44321.40 seconds.";
    While the computer is in the condition I've described, I cannot start apps for most of the collaborative services (Mail, Reminders, Calendars, Addressbook, Messages).  I assume this is because they all rely upon a healthy AddressBook-v22.abcddb file.
    2) All passwords in Internet Accounts (poorly named IMO) and Safari get wiped.  So far I haven't found any log entries useful to this.
    3) Notes associated with my server-provided email account do not behave properly.  Again, this appears to be a local syncing issue as the Notes on the server remain and are available via my iPad.  However, on Mavericks when I start Notes it bounces and bounces and then will finally start with zero notes.  If I close it, and go into Internet Accounts, I have  to (re)check the box next to Notes, and then restart.  At that point, the app pulls down the current notes from the server.  With this third issue, it has been occuring ever since I upgraded to Mavericks and is a condition that exists even when the AddressBook database problem described above is not in place.
    My first question then is, what might be causing these addressbook, password and Notes problems, and how do I fix the issue?
    I've found if I delete the AddressBook folder from Application Support, I can set up a new Contacts account profile and get the contacts from the server.  Everything runs okay for a little bit, but then the problem starts up again.
    My second question is whether or not the profile I had been pushing to log off users after 30 mins of inactivity could be a cause of the other issues?  Since I removed the package, I'll partially be able to test that myself.  The profile was only in place for a few days so the issues with the Notes pre-dates that.  Curious if others have thoughts about this.
    Thank you.
    Tim

    Indications seem to continue to point towards file permission issues but not sure where they are being generated.  All the files and directories in ~/Library/Application Support/Addressbook have a min of RW for the user.  I guess I will create a brand new test user on the server and set up dummy addressbook to check other file permissions.
    Still welcome other thoughts/suggestions from folks.

    p.s., I thought Apple moved away from SQLite?
    p.p.s. In my Addressbook folder, under sources, I seem to have three generated directories, each with different unique names.  Is this normal?

  • Airport Utility is corrupt

    After following some bad advice in this forum I now have corrupt version of Airport Utility software (5.6.1).
    I'm running OS X 10.9.2 and after using Pacifist to install that version of Airport Utility for older Airport Express A1084, I find out it's not compatible with Maverick and corrupted the good version. I no longer have a working Airport Utility.
    How to I reinstall the correct version of Airport Utility for OSX 10.9.2?
    Thanks - Roger

    That won't work. There is no way to use AirPort Utility 5.x in Mavericks without modifying OS X. No workaround for administering the original 802.11b/g - only Express exists without using Mountain Lion or earlier version of OS X, or Windows.
    The site Hosts have been removing recommendations to alter OS X where it appears, but I imagine it has been an overwhelming task for them to keep up with all of it. The same bad advice appears frequently.
    Reinstalling OS X from the Recovery partition ought to result in reinstalling the correct version of AirPort Utility, and will not erase your User account information or other data. Read: OS X Mavericks: Reinstall OS X
    Please try that first, before resorting to erasing your startup volume completely.

  • Attempting to work with documents and sandbox

    I am working on a document organizer and I am trying to integrate such features into the sandbox model. However I have run into a snag - the app cannot access ~/Documents or if a user has dropbox ~/Dropbox. From the list of entitlements it does not appear there is any way for me to scan these directories regularly to allow the user to view them. If a user adds the files using the File interface, it requires many steps and is not seamless. For now there is the temporary entitlement to access and write files and directories relative to the users home. However I do not imagine this will last for long. So I am not really sure how to proceed. Has anyone else had a similar situation, how did you get around this liitation?

    If you continue to try and work with Aperture 2 in Mavericks make sure you have good working backups of your libraries. There is a chance that using 2 with Mavericks will corrupt your libraries.

  • Access mailboxes in time machine back up

    My hard drive crashed and I had to replace it with a new one.
    On my previous drive I was running Mountain Lion, I upgraded to Maverick on the new drive.
    I have my previous drive backed up on time machine, but was unable to restore from a time machine back up, before installing Maverick (files corrupted)
    I absolutely need to get back my old mailboxes from Time Machine !
    How do I access the hidden library in my time machine back up?
    Now that I have Maverick, it is not entering my Mountain lion back ups when I enter time machine.
    The back ups are of course vivible on my finder desktop on the back up drive.
    Is there a way to access the hidden library in the time machine back up without entering time machine?

    I am accessing through the TM interface. The TM interface has multiple folders on this particular weeks back-up. Some I can access and get to the files inside and some I do not have access to. Unfortunately, the folder I want to access and find the single file contains over 200,000 files. If I were to restore the folder, it would overwrite three months worth of files and make them outdated. I need to get access into the folder and restore that individual file.
    Is there a way to restore on a second external drive to keep out current files in tack?

  • I upgraded to Mavericks. I now have a corrupt file in Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle - How can I fix this?

    I Upgraded to Mavericks. I was having problems being able to run TimeMachine so nothing has been able to back-up since the upgrade. I have tried using Carbon Copy Cloner to back up the hard drive, and have been unsucsessful due to a damaged file at Library/CoreServices/RawCamera.bundle. CCC takes days to try and find only those files it needs to back-up, so I have had to abort the back-up. I used TimeMachine before the Mavericks upgrade, but with Mavericks, it is not recognizing the old TimeMachine data and can't roll back to the previous software (Snow Leopard?).
    How can I replace the corrupted files? Do I need to get a disc from Apple with the OSX software and then reload the operating system? Do I need to restore the operating system? Do I need to load Mavericks all over again and if so, how?

    Thank you so much for your recommendation. In the end, I was able to restore from a version of TimeMachine that I had on my external hard drive. I first tried to restore to the earliest version of Mavericks and it had all kinds of issues with my computer being slow and unresponsive. Seeing that this was not going to get me any improvements, I did a second restore to the last version of MountainLion that preceeded the upgrade to Mavericks, and voila, my MacMini is back to its peppy operation. My computer is now restored and functional again.
    I am really puzzled why the folks at the Apple Genius Bar could not suggest this. I had taken the computer and back up hard drive to them, but they told me that my problem was data related, and they don't get into data recovery or back-up issues. But that was ultimately what restored my system back to normal. I think they need to be better schooled on the problems that can be solved using TimeMachine. They had my external disk drive and should have seen that it was capable of restoring my computer and suggested that I go home to try that. But instead.
