Mavericks is trying to copy and not move files?

I have a bunch of folders on a bare bones drive connected via a dock, and I make a new folder and tried to drag all the folders into the new folder on the drive and rather then moving the folders, it wants to copy them? Why is it doing this?

I'm having the same issue of trying to move a large application (7.4 Gigs) and it wants to copy it instead. Is this a security setting? Also everything else I want to move (like from the desktop to the drives top hiearchial level) wants authentication every step of the way. I've been using Macs since the 512 and this is rubbish. Is there a unix fix at least?

Are you sure the text is selected, might be a locked object or layer. Use the technique below as a test. Hide is a good friend in Illustrator, even after you become comfortable with the interface.
Select >> all
object >> hide >> selection
object >> show all
The other major reason this may be happening is you may have pasted the text, but that is somewhere off the screen. Zoom out and do a select all to see if you can find the text.

Thanks for you suggestion but it didn't work - are there other ways for solving this problem? Or is it because my files that I want to copy and paste onto my hard disk etc are too big? (However there is space on my hard disk and it works on a PC)

Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, if you are using Lion, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Next, make sure that you are not connected to the internet. Then to to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality.

I have a hard disk drive with data that i want to back up onto another hard disk drive. I tried just copy and it won't let me paste it in the new drive. I have also tried to drag the files across and they won't go across. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have also tried to click and drag but it wont let me either. I have reformatted the external hard drive to accept both mac and pc files and this did not make any difference. Can anyone help me with this?

How did you reformat the drive? If you formatted it as NTFS, your Mac will not be able to write files to it unless you use a small application such as Paragon's.
Please reply as to how you formatted the drive.

If it only shows up when you highlight it, then it could be your font or your font color. Try changing both to a different font to see if that helps. If not, copy it into a word processor such as Microsoft Word, Pages, or Text Edit to see if it shows up there. If it does, try copying it again from the processor to your webpage.

Look at the USB stick in Disk Utility and check whether it may be partitioned or have other software on it taking up space.

Something has gone wrong. Turn your phone off, then force it into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, select "new".
