Mavericks killed iphoto
I installed mavericks on my mother laptop and it killed iPhoto. Ghostbusters sign over the icon and won't update though the app store. Any suggestions?

You need to download the Mavericks version of iPhoto. There is no updater for the version you have.

After upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5 my shared photo streams seem to contain no photos when seen in iPhoto. From iPad the streams are fine. How can I get them to be recognized by iPhoto again?
Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.

Why are Panasonic GX7 RAW photos not visible in Aperture but in OS X Mavericks and iPhoto?
My Panasonic GX7 RAW photos seem to be visible in OS X Mavericks and iPhoto, but bizarrely not in Aperture (3.5.1).
Does anyone know why this would be? Any solution greatly appreciated.
I've been unable to mange a significant number of images for almost 7 months now due to Aperture's lack of GX7 RAW support and am seriously considering migrating to Lightroom 5. Aperture has been my workflow application of choice for the last 7 or 8 years, but I feel the current situation has become unacceptable and deeply disappointing .That camera was supported in digital camera Raw 5.0.1 and Aperture 3.4.5 or later. As you say the files are supported in iPhoto it seems you have the right Raw file.
Have you tried it with new imports in Aperture does it still fail? What if you reprocess the Raw files in Aperture, any change? -
Since upgrading to Maverick my iPhoto does not consistently download my Nikon or my Canon camera photos. Occasionally it will recognize and download photos, most of the time though it hangs in "loading" mode with nothing downloaded. I've unplugged, replugged numerous times, tried a different USB port, tried the two cameras so it's not the camera or line that's the issue, turned the computer off, turned iphoto off, turned everything else off and stil nothing. I need my photos for my work and can't get to them, this seems to be an issue with Maverick AGAIN!!! Is there a fix? HELP! Thanks!

Thank you for your help Terence. I had 140 photos on my Nikon, none were viewable in iphoto, in Image Capture 5 were viewable, 135 weren't. I tried importing one to my desktop but it remained static and didn't move over. I just deleted all the photos on my camera, took a fresh photo and after waiting a good 4 minutes finally uploaded to both iphoto and Image Capture. As this took so long for one photo I'm wondering if the memory in my computer would impact the speed. I have 350GB used and 150GB left
By reformat the cards do you mean the flash card in the camera? I don't know how to do that, it's less that 6 months old. -
Why are there some blank boxes where photos should be? maverick and iphoto 11
Upgraded to Maverick and iPhoto 11(ver 9.5) and now some of the boxes in photos and events have no photos in them. Tried rebuilding thumbnails and repairing database, but no change. Mistakenly, I closed out screen that first appeared when iPhoto opened for first time that asked permission to do some task and perhaps this is the cause of the problem?
Do you have a backup copy of the library from just before you upgraded to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5? If so restore it to your Pictures folder and try again to open it with iPhoto.
Otherwise, run the first aid again and select the last option, Rebuild Database. See if that helps. If not try the following:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button,
and select the library you want to add from those in the selection window.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the Library ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
Click on the Create button.
Note 1: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost.
Note 2: Your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

Since the Maverick update, iPhoto 11 export of a slideshow has stopped working. Any suggestions?
Since the Maverick update, iPhoto 11 exporting of a slideshow no longer works. It did prior to the update. The more flexible drop down menu when selecting Export has been replaced by 3 choices; 480p, 720, and 1080p. Any suggestions?

This image shows the slideshows being saved to the iTunes library before the Maverick update. I had 3 decent size videos from the slideshows that played on Apple TV. None of the exports after Maverick made it to iTunes. They show up in the iPhoto slideshow folder as a file, but with nothing in them.
Hope this helps explain what I have done and the comparitves. Any suggestions? -

On 10/25/2013 OS X on my Mac mini was updated to Mavericks and iPhoto was updated to iPhoto 11. Since then the photos in iPhoto from the last 2 months have disappeared. Has anyone had a similar complaint? Thank you. harck.

Just a hunch - the "last two month" sounds like an photo stream sync problem.
How did you import the photos from the last two month? Were they in the Photo Stream? Then enable your Photo Stream again in the Sytem Preferences iCloud pane and iPhoto Preferences iCloud tab. This option might have been disabled. If you did not download your recent photos automatically from from the stream, the photo stram must be disabled to show them.
Also, your "last import" event might be empty after the upgrade of the library. Try to sort your events differently, to bring the last event to the top of the list in "Events" view. -
So it happens that since Lion and now, of course, Mavericks, the DVI to Video/S-Video support is not only unsupported, but crashes your 2008 Macbook Pro (MacbookPro3,1, 15 inch) if you plug the official adaptor in. The screen went with artifacts and the computer needed a hard reset.
What happened after that is that the computer wouldn't start. Of course I immediately did SMC and PRAM resets without results. No leds, no start chime, nothing. Only method found was to bypass the SMC (which is done via holding de power button with battery/power cord unplugged, then plugging power cord still holding it, releasing, and pressing it again). Everything is then ok except, of course, everything controlled by the SMC (no battery, leds, fans at full speed). Did Apple's Hardware Check, full test, no errors found. Reflashed manually the SMC via an EFI Shell, as found on the internet: the SMC is in "U" mode and can't be correctly reflashed. After that, I unmounted the logic board looking for any kind of corruption; found nothing.
In resume, did everything I could for a week. The last thing I found out is that plugging the adaptor itself, without connecting to any external device (no TV), still crashes the screen with artifacts. I beleive this has to do with the adaptor having inside some chips, since it's function is not to rewire cables, but to convert one signal to another. What happens after that and a hard-reset again, and after that hard reset the now installed rEFIt screen doesn't appear, so I believe that, effectively, connecting the adaptor affects your computer's boot system somehow.
I know Apple doesn't support computers old as these anymore, and I don't even care they quit the Video-out support with their new free OS, but if by doing that you enable your own official 20-30€ adaptor to kill an otherwise fully functional Macbook, that's foul play.
Any advice will be greatly received. Thanks for reading.Forgot to mention that the DVI adaptor works ok if plugged to a DVI monitor, so it's not a physical problem from the DVI output plug.

I just downloaded the new Mavericks operating sytem on my mid 2010 MacBook Pro, 17" 2.53GHz, Intel Core I5 machine. My IPhoto is no longer working at all, I'm getting an error message that says - "You Can't open the application "IPhoto" because it is not supported on this type of Mac". I also loaded Mavericks onto my other MacBook Pro 17", mid 2009 model and everything works fine. I would think that the newer Mac would easily work with IPhoto. Also, when I try to download from the App Store, it asks for my Apple ID and Password, I enter it, and then the little spinning color wheel just spins forever, with nothing ever happening. I tried downloading the IPhoto Upgrade but it never actually downloads, HELP!!!
What version of iPhoto do you have installed? Is if one of the versions shown as not compatible in this screenshot?
If it is then go to the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5. It will be free if you have an iPhoto 9 or later verson currently.

Mavericks: Killer of Networked Printing
I'm a veteran user of PC/Windows after 2y owning a MBP I'm still amazed at how much stuff just is bizarre in the OSX world that worked flawlessly in the Windows world, at least since Win 7 especially. Very difficult to do the most common tasks used all of the time for me as a somewhat power Windows user, in the OSX world. For example: no way to role back a driver installation or application if it turns out not to be a good thing without an entire blithering Time Machine restore. That, is just too lame! Next comes the very commonly used column header sort feature in Windows Explorer. Just doesn't work nearly as well in OSX world. When I updated to Mavericks, I discovered the very lovely kind of horizontal hourglass display of Safari Top Sites was removed in the latest version, and there is no way to revert back to the prior version. As well, one could swipe thru history pages in the prior version (at least the one assoc w/ Lion) has now been removed and we have an ugly list now and no way to view these pages unless I missed something. Next comes the very very frequently use Screen Print, Home & End buttons in the default Windows keyboard. These features are used very frequently, and yet they don't exist in OSX, at least on my smaller MBP keyboard. Instead, it's a key combination I have a hard time remembering, and it just doens't work quickly and intutively as it does in Win world. These are real productivity features.
Now comes my HP Photosmart D5400 connected to my MSHome network: worked fine prior to Mavericks, now, despite the fact Software Update installed the alledgedly updated driver for X, not happening, for me and what sounds like everything else.
OSX is not the best productivity OS unless you're really an advanced user it would appear. I really do like many features of this MBP, but so many areas are just plain odd in this day an age in terms of practicality and productivity. And a huge one is: no built-in way to role back to prior states w/o restoring from a former image.
I'm hoping if I post here when the soln to network printing (not some blithering work around!) is posted hopefully I can print wirelessly once again. The problem is posted all over the web so I won't go into detail, and don't want to bother w/ other ways of making the broken thing work as a work around. I tried a few of those last evening, killing a good hour+ to no avail. May end up going back to Lion if I can figure out how to restore just the OSX partition from an external TM back up I did early on, taking care to save all my data prior to that. I do like a feature or two in X, but they're not really all that useful in the end.This pretty much sums it up:

Maverick upgrade - iPhoto problems
I have updated my iMac with Maverick but find iPhoto won't work. I get the error message: "You can't' use this version of the application "iPhoto" with this version of OS X. You have "iPhoto" 9.2.3 - Any ideas what I do now? What's the point of an update to Maverick if this is the result?
You will need to to go the App Store and download iPhoto 9.5.1 (free).

Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -
Maverick upgrade - iphoto fails to open
I've recently downloaded Maverick and now iphoto won't open on my 2009 Mac.
Any suggestions how to make it work??Through the finder i've confirmed it's version 9.5.1.
As for the error message it says
