Mavericks menubar is missing on external displays
From the original install the OS worked great, I loved it then following this (10.9.1) update to Mavericks the multi-display functionality is missing. I'm working on a late 2011 MBP with maximum RAM and disc space.
The menu bar now only displays on the main screen and is missing from the external display. Mavericks was working fine after I updated and I saw this issue in mid December. As of yet I have not been able to solve it. I have not attempted to reinstall Mavericks. The OS behaves much like it did with Lion. Is this a function of this latest Mavericks upgrade or could it be something else?
Is there a way to uninstall the update? What is at risk if I do?
Many thanks,
Shrinkray
What do you have in System Preferences, Mission Control, "Displays have separate Spaces"? I think you need to have that checked to get the menubar.

External display no longer works after Mavericks install
I have a minidisplay port to DVI adapter that connects my Macbook Pro to my television through HDMI port (cable is HDMI to DVI).
This has worked fine for over 2 years, but as soon as I upgraded my Leopard OS to Mavericks, it stopped working.
A side topic is that my Android TV media centre also stopped working as it can no longer connect to my Macbook Pro (it used to work for the past few years).
What am I doing wrong? How can I solve my problems? I have tried everything on the forums, but nothing works at all.
Help, please, pretty please with sugar on top and a cherry!
CarlosI'm not sure how installing an application would cause that to happen. Have you shut down (powered off) the iMac completely, and then restarted, since this problem occurred?
Some display settings are stored in PRAM, so if you have not already, try resetting PRAM
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If that does not help, you can try disconnecting the iMac from power and reconnecting it, using the reset SMC (power management) procedure.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
When you reconnect it, initially connect the iMac to a wall outlet, by itself. Leave all peripherals disconnected, except for your USB keyboard/mouse. Make sure it is working properly, then connect only the external display.
If it still does not work, as a test, start up with your Mac OS X installation disc. You are not installing anything, but note if the second display is displaying the background image or not when you are booted from a different system. -
IMac cannot handle Mavericks and external display?
I am a long-time apple-user and long-time user of this wonderful forum. This is, however, the first time I have needed to ask a question of my own having been unable to find an answer on here or elsewhere. In fact, I haven't read of anyone experiencing the issues that I am.
I recently purchased a second hand Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.0 20-Inch (Al) to replace my old white one. I understand that this is the oldest iMac to be able to handle Mavericks, but I have upgraded the RAM to 4GB just to be safe. I also bought myself a lovely HP W2207H Monitor that is HDMI input and, when on Snow Leopard before my upgrade yesterday, was a beautiful extended desktop with no issues whatsoever.
Since upgrading to Mavericks, the monitor has not been working properly; but it's not any of the other, well-documented issues that I have read already. The monitor doesn't flicker, it is recognized beautifully and the resolution is spot on the native...
Right now, for instance, the monitor is working fine. However, if I was to open a new Firefox tab, or open a new application on my iMac, the monitor would go black (not to sleep or shutting down as the light remains on) for two seconds or so. It seems as if the iMac is struggling with doing something and therefore cuts the monitor feed whilst it's doing the process I have just requested. Furthermore, the iMac's fans are running quite hard despite activity monitor showing the decreased usage as Mavericks promised!
For your information: Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.0GHz 20-Inch (Al) 4GB RAM connected to HP W2207H by Mini-SP to HDMI adaptor and HDMI Cable.
I wonder if anyone could help me solve this problem on Mavericks, or will I simply need to regrade down to Snow Leopard for optimal performance of the external display?
Many thanks in advance,
Mikehey.. the display starts up with the imac...
I'm having trouble adusting the brightness on my cinema display...
hopefully get a answer today.. I have a 24" imac -
External display problem in Mavericks
Hy all!
I've encountered a little but annoying bug in mavericks...
I have a Macbook Air 11" Mid 2012 because i carry my mac around all day, but when i'm home i use it with an external monitor.
I've bought an IPS 24" AOC full HD LED display, and i've pluged it on with HDMI to my Mac... it's great, but sometimes when i use apps in full screen the upper sidebar won't dissapeare, it stay's but it does not work... it's just a grey stripe at the top of the screen... is only like that when i use my monitor with external mode... when i mirror my display it work's fine...
Does enyone else had such a problem?
Thanx: BolhaHey mz3t,
Welcome to the forums !
Try to back up and complete a clean reload of the device software as shown here http://bbry.lv/cG8oer. Before you restore your data test to see if you are able to see the clock on the external display.

Mavericks mac usb external display help
I have read several reviews that say there are some usb external displays that don't work with mavericks. I really wan't to have another monitor besides the one out of my thunder bolt cable. I understand that i need to update my drive and that might be why the reviews are the way they are they did not update there drive. I would just like help finding one that i could use. Thank you
I believe most if not all USB display adapters use the 'DisplayLink' standard. If so I would suggest going to the following page and reading the details about Mavericks support.

Incorrect resolution displayed on mavericks external display 1080p
hi. i am running mavericks on imac (intel, amd radeon HD6970 1024mb) and have just added an external display (asus VN279) which i've tried connecting through both mini displayport to displayport and then mini displayport to hdmi. when i select the resolution i have an option for 1080p which is the native resolution of the monitor (and the one that i want to run), however, the resolution that actually comes on the screen is terrible and a totally different and lower one. any ideas on what could be wrong?
thanks
brunoHi,
Try to change the HDMI cable. I did display (X1 Carbon 20A7) 4K (3840 x 2160) on TCL (U49S7606DS) using very old but original Panasonic Viera HDMI 1.3a cable. I know it is strange and should not work but it works.
BTW: Here is what Lenovo officially says for the second generation of X1:
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4400 or 5000 in processor,
external digital monitor support via Mini DisplayPort or HDMI (supports VGA analog monitor via Mini DisplayPort to VGA Monitor Cable); supports three independent displays;
Max external resolution:
3840x2160 (Mini DisplayPort)@30Hz;
2880x1620 (HDMI)@60Hz
Cheers,

When connecting my Macbook Air (mid 2011) to an external LG 22" Display (M2241A) which supports a native resolution of 1920x1080, the closest setting available in the display preferences is 1680x1050, and aspect ratio is really distorted at this size. I use an Apple mini-display-port to HDMI, and HDMI cable to connect the Monitor.
What can I do to correct this problem ? How do I make the 1920x1080 available and get rid of the distortion ?Thanks for your quick answer, but... When I use the 1080p resolution, I need to use Underscan, and the colors change, the fonts get all blurry and overall definition goes really bad. Really seems like a TV setting.
Maybe okay to watch a movie, but not to work in Photoshop and get design work done properly.
The external display only has HDMI + VGA inputs.
So I guess the next step is to try finding a different connector (mini-display to VGA) But I am now in Chile, Patagonia, and believe me, this will be quite a challenge to find !!! Also, no way to buy at Apple online store and get it shipped here in Chile... :-((( -
How to change external display resolution WITHOUT clicking "CONFIRM"?
I have a somewhat unusual situation. My MacBook laptop is actually now a ModBook (a pen-tablet computer), and as such I no longer have a trackpad attached to it. All of my inputs are via the stylus, tapping directly on the built-in display.
This works perfectly fine, except when I need to give presentations on an LCD projector (which is quite often lately). I like to use the projector as an external monitor, so that I can run the Keynote presentation on it while using my laptop screen as the presenter's display, with the upcoming slide, etc. If the projector doesn't give me an ideal native display option (sometimes, the aspect ratio for the 3 or 4 resolutions available in the Displays drop-down in the menubar turn out to be stretched or squeezed), then I, naturally, have to open the Display System Preferences and try out different resolutions.
The problem is, since my stylus only interacts by clicking directly on the built-in-display, I have no way of moving the cursor over to the external display when the dialog box with the "Click here to confirm change/You have 15 seconds..." message appears. So I can never click it ... so I can never confirm the new settings.
The workarounds I've used so far are:
- Mirror displays (not ideal, as I need the presenter preview of the next slide)
- borrow a mouse from someone (usually from a Windows desktop, frankly) and plug that in to briefly mouse over and click the confirm button
I'd love to find a software workaround that allows me to NOT mirror displays and also doesn't require me to carry around a mouse all the time (my laptop bag is already overstuffed...).

How to change the display resolution of APEX ??APEX doesn't have a display resolution. "Display resolution" is an attribute of the device and user agent software used to view the APEX page.
What do you mean by "the display resolution of APEX"?
In other word, if an end user sees large elements on a pageWhat "large elements"?
then he/she zooms it outHow?
"Zooms" what—the entire page or a single "large element"?
How can I set a proper ZOOM for my app by default ...Meaning what?
And as usual, we're missing:
<li>Full APEX version
<li>Full DB/version/edition/host OS
<li>Web server architecture (EPG, OHS or APEX listener/host OS)
<li>Browser(s) and version(s) used
<li>Theme
<li>Template(s)
<li>Region/item type(s)

If you're looking for help it doesn't seem unreasonable that you make the effort to provide a full, clear but concise description of the problem or requirement. -
External Display Resolution Issue...
I have a Mid-2012 MPB running Mavericks. Recently, I've tried connecting 2 different external display's to the MBP via an Apple Thunderbolt to VGA adaptor. I can't get the resolution of the connected displays to go above 800 x 600, and it looks awful.
The first screen is a Samsung SyncMaster T260HD with a native res of 1920 x 1200, and the other is a Samsung SyncMaster 933HD, with a native res of 1366 x 768. I plug them into my Windows box via a VGA cable, and it will drive each display at it's native res just fine. So what have I missed to get the MBP to do this???
Thanks in advance. :-)My MBP has Thunderbolt and I have a mini displayport to DVI adapter. This is connected to the DVI port in the display.
That option key selection did not increase the alternative resolutions available.
I did reset PRAM according to a advise hee in the community. That did not help either. -
I'm thinking about purchasing a 19" lcd monitor for use with my 12" iBook. I need something that makes photo editing easier. I'm looking at either a Viewsonic VA1930WM or a Samsung 906BW. Does anyone any experience with either of these monitors or another monitor that they would recommend? Thanks.
I would like to add that even with the hack mentioned before the iBook has limited external display resolutions.
Using resolutions above 1600 pixels wide may cause slowdowns. One limiting factor is the display adapters amount of memory. For me that is 32MB.
You may also notice some anomalities when sleeping and waking the iBook. These include for example: Missing the mouse cursor until it has passed from display to another (or duplicate pointers). Some coloured zebra style stripes over some windows until they are refreshed. X11-windows that open up too wide to fit on one screen. Windows or requesters that have moved outside the screen area showing only one pixel width on current screen.
I guess most of these problems are just plain normal operation and have nothing to do with the hack, but I might be wrong and these anomalities might not happen on higher end models, that offer the external displays that are not mirrored.
Otherwise the iBook handles external displays very nicely and OS X really supports multiple displays well.
Notice that in the Preferences -> Displays -> (Order?) you can drag the menubar to another screen, if you want to make that screen the primary display.

How to Force mac Thunderbolt External Display with Integrated GPU for Macbook Pro 2012?
I have been getting GPU Panic whenever I use external Thunderbolt Display.
Not sure whether this is software after(Mavericks) or hardware, if anybody could shed some light I would appreciate it.
The Current Discrete GPU will only work for few seconds 10 sec max before it became blank and require you to force shutdown. This also happened even without external display Blank and GPU Panic upon restart. So I suspected either the discrete GPU failure or software in Mavericks.
But at the moment I'm looking for workaround so I can use the intel intergrated GPU to use my Mac Thunderbolt External Display.
Thank you in advance for any input.

External display... just doesn't work
Hi all,
I have been scouring forums for this problem, but it seems to be relatively uncommon, so I wonder if I am just missing some very basic steps or something.
I have an HP LP2065 monitor that works fine with my PCs. I just got this new macbook, and to use the monitor I got the Apple VGA to mini DVI connector. When I connect the monitor the macbook can detect it (right down to model number) and it lets me choose mirroring, resolution, bitrate, etc. Each time I do so it even enticingly goes black for a while as if something is actually happening. But throughout all this the monitor does not detect any display, it just tells me to "Check Video Cable" and then goes to sleep after awhile because it's not getting any info.
Weird things also happen such as the macbook not waking up properly or showing a black screen when I turn it on, until I unplug the monitor.
Any ideas? Thanks!Hello. Your problem is common. I use an HP SB21. The Macbook does appear to have some compatibility issues with certain brands of external display.
Please see this thread for a solution that worked for me: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1731505&tstart=0
I hope it works for you. Goodluck. -
Safari window will disappear if dragged from a tab to an external display
Try opening a Safari window and add a new tab, then drag that new tab to the external display (e.g. Desktop 3) as a new window, it will disappear when you release the drag-and-drop. I think this is a bug of Safari 7.0 on Mavericks 10.9.
Two steps work-around:
1) Drag the tab out to the same display.
2) Then drag it again to another display.
Of course it's a bug. Please report it to http://www.apple.com/feedback/safari.html. -
I have tried everything I can find on line but they all claim that the plug and play works, and they don't for me. I tried the mini dvi to HDMI and a HDMI cord and that was not recognized no matter which unit I rebooted first. I found someone who said that my Macbook might be too old for the HDMI technology so I returned the cords and went to the VGA cord and adaptor.
I tried this first with the HDMI setup:

Then I tried this with the VGA setup:

I contacted Samsung support and they said I needed to set the display settings to external display on the mac. I went to the display settings and moved the icon to my status bar. When I click on search for displays or whatever it says (I'm not at my Mac right now) it does nothing.
What am I missing?I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system. The TV says "No signal. Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection." Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display. But how do I do that?

I have Dell up2414q monitor which is capable of displaying up to 3840 x 2160. But when I connect my 11-inch Macbook Air (the latest 2014 model), which is capable of 2560 x 1600, shows only 1920 x 1080. This is the highest resolution listed in display setting.
I'm using Display Port cable and enabled Display Port 1.2 setting on the monitor. I went to Apple Store and asked, but they had no idea what was wrong. My OS is 10.9.3.Hi there gen2014,
