Mavericks messing up Busy CAL

I have just heard from a user that installing Mavericks has screwed up his calendar.  He is using Busy CAL.  I don't have details on exactly what it's done (just headed to go check it out), but was wondering if anyone else has run into this.  Also just wanted to raise awareness.
Thanks!

  • Trouble upgrading to Busy Cal 2?

I have been trying for a week to upgrade from version 2.5.4 to Busy Cal 2  version 2.6 on the Mac App Store and it is not working. I get error sign messages that the Store is having trouble (try again later) or just nothing happens.  Busy Cal Support reports troubles, but they say it is the Mac App Store's issue. Any one else experiencing this and found a solution?

You can download iTunes from here:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You need to save the installer file on your desktop. When you are prompted to Run\Save, choose save.
Then you run the installer, iTunesSetup.exe, from your desktop.
If that doesn't work, it may be necessary to manually remove iTunes before reinstalling, but I won't go into that unless you need to do it.

  • Time Machine / Mavericks Mess

After spending hours tying to get my backups to complete I figured I would start from scratch to eliminate any other possiblities.  So I reformatted my machine and installed ML and the backups worked fine.  Once I upgraded to Mavericks my Time Machine is in a continuous loop of "backing up" without transfereing any data or actually backing anything up.
This has been going on for 2 days now.  I've tried the other suggestions I've found in other threads (repairing the disk, OS, permissions, etc., I also do not have any processes hanging or access denied issues) and nothing seems to work.  This looks like a bug.  Thoughts?

Well if it makes you feel better you are not alone.
My Mavericks upgrade went fine- Setup Assistant moved my old computer over to the new Mavericks computer.
And yes the Time Machine back-up was suppose to be "inherited"
The reality was the BackUp was still  full but Mavericks could not see the inherited files.
leaving me very little available space left on the Backup.
I was forced to erase the past backups, reformated and started fresh from day one.
I had a bootable clone as my only other backup.
    On we go.

  • Mavericks compatibility with NUDC

After installing Mavericks my Now Up-to-Date software won't boot up. What should I do?

What I found was that Now wasn't compatible with Mavericks and Now is "now" out of business. I researched calendar software that would work for my business (that would come closest to doing what Now did). (iCal doesn't do what I need it to do). The closest software was BusyCal. Busy Cal is capatible with Mavericks.

  • HP Color Laserjet 4550 not recognized by Mavericks.

Okay folks, yeah, I know, it is an older printer. But, it's a work horse in excellent condition that gets the job done. The printer is Wi-Fi and also can do ethernet. Mavericks will not recognize either now to print.
I finally made the jump from Leopard 10.5.8 to Mavericks 10.9.2. Yes, I'm regretting it but had no choice since I needed to connect the phones and iPad to the MacBook Pro (mid '09). I never had any problems until I upgraded to Mavericks. Ugh.
Although HP and Apple say that the original driver should be okay, nope. So I found the updated driver and installed it. Nothing. I tried with JetDirect and IPP. Blank. It's like I have no printer and worse yet, no drop down list. Shall I say I am beyond livid? (Don't even get me started on other programs like my Adobe Creative Suite that it will not accept or my Outlook that I had to rebuild 2x since "upgrading" the OS a week ago!). I did try the eprintcenter.com for HP but there is no printer key code for it to work.
So now, I turn to the folks here as my saving grace. With the exception of having to buy a new printer which is out of the question at this point in time, how did anyone else fix this Mavericks mess?

"Not recognized" doesn't really explain exactly when/where you have a problem. What drop down list are you referring to?
    Install this driver download:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL907
    Now, reset the printing system.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14141
Now Add the printer using IP address and HP Jetdirect protocol.
If the correct driver doesn't show up, you can try generic HP PCL 5.
(Please respond with exact results/error messages if you want more help.)

  • Date and currency in business apps

Last year, I was concerned about the difficulty to use java.util.Date class in business applications.
See thread "Date is a mess for business use" at http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=4&thread=464726
And yes, I continue to think that a Date with 61 seconds in a minute is unusable in a business environment !
We need to store business dates, not timestamps.
Working for an insurance company, suitable date and currency classes are of paramount importance, but Java doesn't include such classes, rendering its use very difficult, not to say almost impossible.
I just give here a pointer to some very interesting articles I just came across lately.
I think it can be of some help to people facing the same problems as me about Date and currency storage.
    http://www.idinews.com/darkside.pdf
    http://www.idinews.com/freeware.html
    http://www.idinews.com/sourcecode/DateJava.html
    http://www.idinews.com/sourcecode/MoneyJava.html
At last, with these two classes, we can do the same data processing as we did with all our cobol programs.
    Happy reading !

I tried using the Money class on the compound interest example from http://www.cs.princeton.edu/introcs/91float/. Here's my code:
    Money deposit = new Money(1000d);
    System.out.println("Deposit = "+deposit);
    System.out.println("Double precision interest = "+
         deposit.mpy(Math.pow(1 + .05 / 365, 365)));
    Money dailyAmount = new Money(deposit);
    for (int i = 0; i < 365; i++)
              dailyAmount = dailyAmount.mpy (1 + .05 / 365);
System.out.println("Daily calculated interest = "+dailyAmount); The output looks like:
    Deposit = $1,000.00
    Double precision interest = $1,051.26
Daily calculated interest = $1,049.40But the second value should be $1,051.27. Because Money uses a long to represent the amount I end up missing a penny when double precision rounding is applied, and because it rounds down I end up missing almost $2 when the amount is calculated daily.

  • Unable to re-install Snow Leopard after upgrading to Mavericks

I upgraded to Mavericks before realizing that my USB microphone interface would no longer work with Mavericks due to the manufacturer not updating drivers... So I need to revert back to Snow Leopard. I don't have a time machine backup from snow leopard, so I erased my hard drive and attempted to re-install snow leopard from the installation CD's. But it won't work! It says that I cannot install Snow Leopard on my machine, only restore from a time machine backup.
I suspect mavericks messed with my firmware or something... How can I get the computer back to the way it was when I first bought it? It seems like you should always be able to revert to the OS that shipped with the machine, but this is proving very frustrating!

  • Mavericks switches language when I don't want it to

After updating to Mavericks last night I find my mac has taken to converting my name written in English into Japanese  (I'm in Japan and do use Japanese a lot, but the system main language is set to English, and this problem is occurring in the middle of otherwise all-English text).
It's a headache when it happens in apps like Mail - I have to keep going back and re-correcting stuff - but the biggest problem is that I cannot sign in to the App Store to upgrade the apps (like iPhoto) that are no longer compatible since I made the mistake of upgrading to Mavericks. When I try to enter my ID (=my email address) it gets automatically converted into Chinese characters; I convert it back again, but the instant I click 'Continue' it converts back again and I get a message that my 'ID or password were entered incorrectly'. I re-enter the ID, the same thing happens, I get the same error message and this time I get sent to the Apple ID website to reset my password 'for security reasons'. I've reset my password so many times, I'm getting dizzy.
I did manage to log into the iTunes Store, but now it says that 'This ID is valid only for the iTunes Store in Japan', which isn't much help.
How can I stop Mavericks messing about with my languages? Is there no alternative but to go back to OS10.6.8?

Thank you both! You both solved the problem by pointing to the keyboard preferences, but it seems I can only mark one answer as 'This solved my question'.
When I checked System Preferences > Keyboard, under Text I found a list of automatic replacements that included my namebeing converted from English to Japanese. (I know they weren't there before Mavericks!) As a bonus I also found that I could choose British spelling, which seems to have solved another problem I had up until now of Word automatically slipping back into American spelling even though I'd set everything for British - I write/proofread for a living, so this was a big headache and Microsoft hadn't been able to explain why this happened.
My only input source has always been Kotoeri. The 'flag' shows a large letter A when I'm typing English and a hiragana あ or a katakana ア when I'm typing Japanese. I had no problems until Mavericks (except with Word).
I'm in Japan, so the Japanese flag at the bottom of the App Store page is the 'correct' flag. I tried changing it to the UK flag to see what would happen, and when I tried to sign in (successfully this time, no conversions) I got a message saying my ID was valid only for Japan, and got automatically switched back. The iPhoto update seems to be downloading no problem now.
Again, thank you both very much.

  • Need help! Attempting to Upgrade to Mavericks broke my MacBook Pro

I'm in need of help.  I'll try to give all the info I can.
I have had this MacBook Pro for at least 4 years.
I had been running 10.5 for a long time without issue.  At some point, I set up a dual boot with Windows XP.  I'm not sure why I did this.  It seemed like a cool idea at the time.  I rarely ever used Windows... But I liked having the option.  It worked very well.
Years went by.  No issues.  A few months ago I tried updating itunes and realized I needed 10.6 in order to do that... so I bought a Snow Leopard disk and successfully installed the upgrade.
Past few months I've been running 10.6.8 without any issues.  Dual booting into Windows XP still worked.  No issues.
Then today I realized that installing to 10.9 through the App Store was free.  Sure why not... so I tried installing the upgrade... It downloaded, rebooted, started installing and then quit.  Something about my disk being corrupted or something.  It suggested i reboot my machine, back up my files and try installing again.
Unfortunately, now when I tried booting, it was giving me a grey screen with a circle and a slash through it instead of the Apple logo... and then it would immediately boot into Windows.   It wouldn't boot into OSX at all.
I tried booting into safemode and it would just sit at the green screen (apple icon showing) and sit there for hours.  NOthing would happen.
I tried booting via my OSX Snow Leopard disk and doing a repair disk and it's not allowing me to.  Any ideas?

It doesn't really make sense for the drive to suddenly fail.  I don't even think Mavericks fully began installing... it downloaded the file, rebooted and then said that the install failed.
The drive is set up with 2 partitions.  One partition for Mac OSX and the other for Windows XP.   I'm still able to boot into Windows XP without any issue at all.  Doesn't that suggest the drive itself might be fine?  I wonder if the attempt at installing Mavericks messed up some files on the MacOSX partition?
Here's what I've attempted to do...
I tried doing Shift + Cmd + V and this is the last few lines of code it gives me:
    ** Root file system
    Executing fsck_hfs (version diskdev_cmds-491.6-3).
** Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Invalid extent entry
    (4, 0)
** The volume could not be verified completely.
/dev/rdisk0s2 (hfs) EXITED WITH SIGNAL 8
    fsck failed!
    Kext loading now disabled.
    Kext unloading now disabled
    Kext autounloading now disabled.
    Kernal requests now disabled.
    Can't get kextd port.
    syncing disks... Killing all processes
    continuing
I used my OSX 10.6 (snow leopard) disk to boot holding C... this allowed me to open up disk utility from the utilities menu.  Within Disk Utility, I see my Mac OSX partition drive... When I click "Verify Disk" it gives me an error saying "Invalid extent entry.  The volume could not be verified completely.  Error:  This disk needs to be repaired.  Click Repair Disk"...  When I click "Repair Disk" I get an error that says:
"Verify and Repair volume "Macintosh HD"
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Invalid extent entry
The volume could not be verified completely.
    Volume repair complete.
Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.
Error:  Disk Utility can't repair this disk... disk, and restore your backed-up files."
    And a popup that says:
"Disk Utility stopped repairing "Macintosh HD"   Disk utility can't repair this disk.  Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files"
.... Is there anything else I can do?  Again, the second partition (on the same drive) that I have called "Untitled" is home of my Windows XP partition.  I'm having no trouble booting into Windows XP...
NOt sure what I can do from here.  It seems the attempt to upgrade to Mavericks messed some stuff up.  I am merely guessing that this is due to my drive having two partitions (one for Windows).  I guess it's semi plausible that it was just a complete fluke and the drive randomly got corrupted after 5 years at the exact moment I attempted to upgrade to Mavericks, but I find that highly unlikely.

  • Seriously. Just a calendar, that's all I want.

Hi. First time question-asker here. OK, so, I made the utterly regrettable decision to upgrade to Mavericks (looks like I'm a year late to join in that chorus) when nothing was wrong with the last 10 OS's, and then everything got messed up. Yadda yadda grrrr etc.
My question here is about Calendar. It would open but crash under Mavericks and even sacrificing all my existing calendar info, it wouldn't let me add any new events without hanging up and crashing. I tried a bunch of apps, closest it came was CalenMob but then it hung/crashed the same way. Busy Cal (trial) is great, and it accessed my existing list of events (which means that's there somewhere) but I really can't justify spending $50 on an app only to replace the built in OSX one which is now useless.
This is dumb of me I know, but in my frustration I deleted iCal thinking I could find it again and reinstall it, which evidently isn't so simple, and I'm not looking to reinstall all of Mavericks again for something so small.
I should add I don't use the Cloud, have no use for it or plans to go there. I don't need my dentist appointment to hang out in outer space. I just need a super basic calendar, self-standing, on my computer. No syncing, no clouding, just a grid of squares that I type words into, really. We can see things a metre wide from outer space and computers that would have taken up a whole building not long ago fit in our pockets, I feel like this should be achievable. And yet...
I'm fine with giving up on iCal and I'm ok with starting from a blank slate, but can someone recommend a full version freeware calendar that doesn't require updating, or know where I can re-download the iCal files on their own? I'm not looking to put money or much more time into this. I'm still kind of in disbelief that Mac would let something so basic slip so thoroughly through the cracks. It's this or going back to a good old pen and paper. Thanks.

Thank you both. Yes I tried Calendar, if it's the same one that lives in the menu bar, with no luck on similar functionality (I couldn't add events). I'll try it again to see how much I can customize it. And thanks Eric, yes I do have old backups, I was hoping to find any full self-contained app that I could just install and use instead before overhauling or reverting the whole OS over this, but it looks like that's what my options are down to so I'll either go there, keep looking for a working freeware calendar or give up the ghost. Just thought there might be something simple I hadn't tried, like a file I could download and replace. Reading about Mavericks just now, I see I'm not nearly alone in regretting the upgrade.
This is my first and probably last post here, so while I'm at it - Someone in the Mac world needs to know that with the constant upgrades, patches and fixes required (apps to fix apps etc), they are getting further and further from the simplicity and user-friendliness that made Macs better than PCs in the first place. I think the pressure of having to reinvent yourself and your product once per business year makes you miss the point that there's only so much a computer NEEDS to do, and you were already doing it, amazingly. I could be 10 OS's back and still doing anything I need to day to day. It's the problem of true encryption vs. speed that they should be working on if they want to reinvent the wheel, and even that they only need to do one time. Same with Iphones. I have my wife's old 3G and it's perfect. I don't need a new one every year BECAUSE you did such a bang up job with the last one(s). We're getting into planned obsolescence territory, making useless or even retrograde tweaks just for the sake of it, which is further and further from that Steve Jobs magic, and again - what made people like me switch over from PCs.
OK, end rant. Thanks for the advice folks. We'll see what happens.

  • Why can't I list more than one e-mail addressee suddenly?

I think since downloading Mavericks my mail program does not allow me to put more than one contact in the To box. Very frustrating. I
don't see anything in Mail preferences that will address this problem.

But the first addressee is no longer inside a blue oval. So, unfortunately, your suggestio does not answer my question.
Another change to mail is that when I try to send an attachment based on text in Pages, only part of the text appears in my outgoing e-mail. Has Maverick messed things up?

  • Any recommendations on productivity for database and project management, Bento was good but no longer sync with ical and address book

I've unfortunately updated to the new Bento on MakBook and iPad and synced my data and in the process it tells me that iCal and Address books will not sync any more.  I have several projects I am working on and looking for something that will syn with iCal, address book and Busy Cal to manage my  time efficiently and seamlessly. Help?

I think you're in the wrong forum - this is for developers, who write programs for apple products.
As for Bento, their problem is due to Apple's changes in the API.  The code that syncs with calendars and contacts is now deprecated, which means at some point in the future, it will no longer work.  This problem will affect all developers, so you probably won't find any replacement for Bento.

  • Why are pdf not coding right?? I have 2 macbook pros 15

Pdfs in lion are coming accross as windat files not pdfs.. but they are working fine on windows pc's this needs fixed fast as it is messing up business flow
    Please advise

I am using mail. I also did not install the Lion OS at the same times on my mac pros.. to ensure Lion was working proplerly I only isntalled on one then used it a few days then installed on other. pdfs did not come into play until today. Like I said I checked to make sure it was not  mail routing issue or server, as I checked them on 2 of my laptops on different locations. This is something Lion is doing with out a doubt in my mind. If I am wrong so be it, but this is not about being right it is about me getting business done. I will gladly be wrong if it is fixed.

  • SharePoint 2013 installation

    Dears,
I am going to install SharePoint 2013 server in my corporation, I am going to use two tiers:
Web server and application server on the same physical server.
Database server on another physical server.
The users in SharePoint server will be get from active directory domain server.
The users will sign in to SharePoint server just from the corporation intranet network.
During this progress I have some questions about:
What is the cost of SharePoint 2013 enterprise server license and how can I get it?
What is the business CAL for users and do I need it?
Can I upgrade the SharePoint version to updated versions like SharePoint 2015..?
    Thanks.

    Hi
The license structures were changed recently. The best would be to contact a partner/reseller in your area and let them advise you.
You will need a SQL license as well and CALs for users accessing the server. Like with Sharepoint 2010 there was not direct upgrade path and you will need to install the new version i assume the same process will follow with newer versions of sharepoint.
Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • Transfering data between profiles

    Upgraded to Mavericks.
Mavericks messed up my network drives in my user profile that was joined to the domain.
Tried to drop the domain and rejoin, but can't.
Created a new local user profile.
I have time machine backups of old profile
I want to migrate old settings and data to new profile
    I've tried the following solutions:
Googling several different ways and can't find a solution.
Using migration assistant, but could only access the time machine back up for the new profile
Accessing my time machine backups on the drive using finder, but I don't have permissions for the folders even though I am an administrator.
Please help me find a solution. Thanks.

Some extra info, that I just discovered.
Running Mountain Lion on my macbook
I have no problems looking through the time machine back ups
Tried to restore some of the files. Cannot see the files after restore. Finder asks me to replace them, when I try to restore again.
