Mavericks - no signal to projector

I installed Mavericks on my MacBook Pro (early 2008) with the purpose of showing slideshows at my local camera club using FotoMagico 4, which required the latest version, as that's what I had used on my iMac to create the slideshow.  I was unable to get any signal from my MBP to the Canon projector.  This had never been a problem when I used 10.6.8, but after many hours of trial and searching the community forum I have been unable to get a signal from 10.9.1.  I've tried all the suggestions offered by people who have had similar difficulties with external displays.  I had to confess to the camera club that I couldn't get a signal now from my Mac, which elicited some jeering!  The projector worked fine for a stand-in using a PC.  Can anyone solve this problem for me?  This is the thirtieth anniversary of the Mac, and it's also thirty years since I first used Macs.

I have found the problem and its solution.  The DVI output from my MBP to the DVI input on the projector turns out to be analog rather than digital.  Selecting the analog input on the projector allowed the signal to be received.  Perhaps I need to get a new cable?!  Hope this helps those who have been kind enough to look at the question.

  • No video signal on projector (Lion, MacBook Pro)

    Hi guys
since I've update to Lion (10.7.2),  I have problems getting a video signal via mini-DVI / VGA to certain projectors. I'm using a Mac Book Pro (end of 2008). I have never encountered similar problem with previous versions of Mac OS X. Restarting the MacBook or the projector doesn't help. Does anybody have an idea what to do?
    Thanx
    fweth

I also update to Lion from 10.6.8.. My Dell 3300MP projector worked fine with Snow Leopard. Then with Lion, there is occassionally scrambled signal, but most of the time no signal.. Tried restarting projector, restarting computer, turning mirroring off and then on, but no help. I am running an early 2011 13" MBP.. Really frustrating for someone who does lots of presentations and teaching.

  • 10.9.5 Maverick won't recognize projector

I have a 2013 MBP, running 10.9.5 to a Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 projector.  The projector give me "No Signal"  I am running a cord from the Thunderbolt port to the HDMI port no the projector.
    I have tried:
both thunderbolt ports and both HDMI ports.  The HDMI ports on projector work with a PC.  The thunderbolt ports and cord works when connecting to a plasma and an LCD TV
I have gone to display, and there is no "arrangement " tab.  I have hit option and clicked detect displays.  I have hit F7 with option, shift and control and command.  Ditto with F3.  I have reset the monitor.  I have reset the PRAM on laptop, I have reset the SSC.  I have booted into safe mode.  I download the "display menu" app and set the resolution to 1080, and every other resolution available.  I have restarted the MBP and the monitor, and plugged and unplugged the cord in every conceivable order.
Please help, it should not be this hard to make a presentation.

  • Imac with radeon x 1600 graphics card will not send signal to projector

I am using an Imac running Boot Camp. The Imac has a Radeon X 1600 graphics card. I have installed the latest driver in XP. The Device manager recognizes the correct card.
The problem: I cannot get our projector to pick up the signal from the Imac. I have systematically gone through all the display settings. Others who have similar problems seem to have graphics cards with additional software that allows them to select a clone display feature.
Any thoughts? The projector works fine with a macbook running bootcamp (xp).

Hi Cathy and welcome to Discussions,
sounds to me as if you are missing the Catalyst Control Center, which usually provides these kinds of setting.
You can download both Drivers and the Control Center from the ATI/AMD website here: http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/mac/bootcamp-xp.html
The Control Center needs a Windows where the .NET Framework (2.0 at least) is already installed before installing the Control Center, otherwise it does not work.
You can download that from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856eacb-4362-4b0d-8edd -aab15c5e04f5&displaylang=en
    Hope it helps.
    Good Luck

  • Using keynote presentation on projector have had brief loss of signal

I have changed projector and iPad and still experience during keynote presentation a brief loss of signal to projector.
This happens at random and keynote presentation restarts on projector. Tried every source to help and followed all advice and it still
happens at random.  Can play a movie using same gear no problem at all; Please Help.

Please do not type in all caps, that is considered shouting on a public forum and also rude which I am sure is not your intent. I would also suggest reposting in the Keynot forum, that is where the Keynote gurus are likely to be.
    Good luck.

  • How to make a MacBook Pro (mid 2009) work properly with a 3M Streaming projector?

Ok, so I have a MacBook Pro (mid 2009), a 3M Streaming projector and very annoying problem.
When I connect my MacBook Pro with a Mini Displayport to HDMI adapter to the 3M projector, I get a pink tint, like a filter over the image, it’s very frustrating.
This are the tests I’ve done:
    1. I tried the adaptor and the projector on a different (more recent) Mac -> It worked fine.
    2. I tried connecting my MacBook Pro to a different not HDMI but VGA projector -> It worked fine.
    3. I used some Terminal code I found on the web to force the Mac to send RGB signal, don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but I tried anyway -> Didn’t work
So I’m confused, it’s not the physical port of my MacBook cause it worked fine with a VGA projector, It’s no the 3M projector and it’s not the Mini Displayport to HDMI adaptor cause it worked fine on a different Mac.
    So what is it?
I’m totally desperate, I haven’t been able to solve this problem, so if you guys can help me you will be my heroes.
    Thanks.
    – 13" MacBook Pro (mid 2009) runing Mavericks.

Yes as Clinton says this is correct.
I've used a Sata to USB connector which is only a few pounds instead of an enclosure for the clone, but then I wasn't keeping mt old HDD. But that's an option if you don't need it.
I also use Carbon copy cloner as this will clone your recovery partition as well. Apples disk utility will also clone drives but I'm not sure that it copy's the recovery partition.
I highly redomend my Samsung 840 pro 256Gb - it's about the fastest drive you'll get (nearly) but is backed by Samsung's unrivaled SSD reliability and 5 year warranty. I've also used an 840 basic model on an older macbook and was equally pleased.
Crucial's drives are reliable mac friendly drives but are somewhat slower on the write speeds vs the 840 Pro.
I'd avoid OCZ drives due to so many failures across their range although they do have great reviews and some models just edge the Pro on speed although it's fairly negligible.
As Clinton says, avoid the Samsung Evo drive. I wanted to buy this drive as it is a great drive - but there are many users that have had compatibility issues with it when installed in a Mac. This may rectified on a future firmware update possibly, but until it's proven I would avoid it for now.

  • Mini-HDMI to VGA does not work with projectors having long cables

    Hi
I use a ThinkPad Yoga with Windows 8.1 and have problems to get a video signal to some projectors using a Mini-HDMI VGA adapter like this http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Active-Female-Adapter/dp/B00879ELGA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=13979...
Usually it works but in some lecture/presentation rooms projectors show "no signal" (I changed all possible graphic settings). There seems to be a problem with cable length because after using a VGA repeater increasing video signal strength projectors show a picture. But the problem is those VGA repeaters are quite expensive and too big (if you are travelling). Some Mini-HDMI VGA adapters have USB ports to connect them to a power source but this does not really help to increase signal strength.I find this issue very annoying because all other (older) laptops with VGA ports or MacBooks with displayport-VGA adapters do not have this problem and produce a video signal that is strong enough to connect to projectors with long cables.
    My questions are:
    a) Is it possible to adjust my ThinkPad hardware settings to improve signal strength?
    b) If not, is there a small Mini-HDMI VGA adapter that produces a signal strong enough to connect projectors with long cables?
    c) If not, is there an affordable and small VGA repeater that does the job?
    Thanks!

    1) that is not possible
    2) Why not get a USB2VGA converter?

  • G5 HD output to a Toshiba Projector

    Hi
I wonder if you could help me.
I have a dual 1.8 G5, 2Gb Ram, running OS 10.4.6, with a Radeon 9800 Pro with 128MB of Vram. It has both VGA and DVI connections. I recently bought a Toshiba TLP-ET1 LCD Projector, which has VGA and Component video connections (Y,Pa/Cb,Pr/Cr). I wish to connect my G5 to the projector. I bought a Component Video Cable and a generic ATi DVI to Component Video Adapter. I have set the dip switches on the adapter to the HD signal my projector accepts, (480i etc.) and plugged the cables in. I restart the Mac and then during the first 3 attempts the projector states that the signal is unsupported. It then states that no signal is being received.
Can anybody help me to get this working or let me know what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks

Is the ATI DVI to Component Video adapter compatible with the Mac? On ATI's site http://www.atitech.com/products/hdtvadapter/specs.html they only mention Windows operating systems under operating systems supported.

  • Digital Projector Connection

My digital projector will not connect with my Satellite A135 laptop. I tried the Fn F5 setting as described in the manual but it won't recognize any signal.

Most projectors have an input selection setting.  Make sure that setting corresponds to the input that you're trying to use.  The projector I juse most often has a Computer 1 and Computer 2 setting as well as S-Video and composite video.  The input selection has to be done from the projector menu.

  • Issue after updating to 8.1

I'm not 100% sure when i updated to 8.1 but i believe it was a automatic update. Anyways, i am trying to restore my PC to factory defaults and whenever i go to the settings to attempt it, i am recieving a message that says "Required drive partition is missing". I do not have the recovery disk that was included with my laptop. I tried multiple different suggestions using the command prompt and have had no luck. Does anyone know how i can fix this and restore my PC to factory defaults? I'm not exacty computer savvy so simple terms/instructions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Pretty useless forum months as no reply or help!  Well I have come up with a way around this problem for anyone else that comes accross this problem of NO SIGNAL FROM PROJECTOR through VGA PORT what you need to do if you are running WINDOWS 8.1 is to buy a TRUE DVI TO VGA DIGITAL TO ANAGLOGUE CONVERTOR from EBAY as the stupid macbooks dont see VGA PROJECTORS AS VGA they see them as DVI only therefore you end up with a NO SIGNAL MESSAGE or a BLACK SCREEN, after you get a DVI to VGA Convertor all will work fine - COSTS ARROUND £20.00 but be sure you buy a True Digital to Analogue Convertor with is a small black box with a DVI input and a VGA output + comes with a 5V ADC mains adaptor. If you buy just a cable DVI to VGA or some cheap convertor for a few pounds it still outputs the signal in DIGITAL not Analogue and will not work.
    Link to convertor: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DVI-D-to-VGA-Hardware-Converter-Video-Card-Adapter-Cha nge-Dvi-Digital-to-Analog-/400348900473?pt=UK_Computing_Sound_Vision_Video_Cable s_Adapters&hash=item5d36a76c79
Anyways hopefully this solves other peoples problems aswell this applys to all VGA Projectors this method.

  • Screen freezing on T410 - CAD environment

I have problems with screen freezing in SolidWorks on my ThinkPad T410. I am using external monitor with video signal on “Projector only”. It is connected through docking station to monitor with DVI type plug. Screen inside the SolidWorks window (working space) stopping to react then  3d-model or draft open. Everything else is active and accessible outside the CAD window in Windows environment.
I am switching the graphics to “Disconnect projector” mode to show the screen into ThinkPad LCD only. Then I am “Restore” the SolidWorks window and “Maximize” to full screen again. Then I can see the working space of SolidWorks. Switching back to “Projector” mode making this screen visible onto Monitor too.
So, I am really tired doing this last three months. Any suggestions?
I tried to play with settings of NVIDIA Control Panel (I have NVIDIA NVS 3100M) . I tried to change the cable to D-SUB type cable and adjust the settings of Intel video too. It does not help!
    Windows 7 Professional
    i7 CPU M 620 @ 2.67GHz
    4.00 GB RAM
    64-bit OS
    Lenovo ThinkPad 410
    Solved!

Thank you for the tip! This helps!
I changed settings for gpu in BIOS: Config/Display/Graphics Device to [Discrete Graphics] and /OS Detection for NVIDIA Optimus to [Disabled]

  • Trouble with MBP 15" and external display

ahh, the joy of a new display...
I just received my NEC 20wmgx2 (20" widescreen 1680x1050), a fantastic little monitor, with a little problem.
I cannot get this display to work properly with my macbook pro.
If I use DVI (DVI out to DVI in)
The external stays blank, and says no signal, the laptop display blinks, like it sees something is there, but even after clicking 'detect displays' nothing shows up.
    If I use VGA (DVI->VGA adapter->VGA in)
Ok, now I have a picture, however the correct resolution is not on the list, all I have are typical non-widescreen resolutions.
Using third party software (switcresX) I am able to force the correct resolution option to get it to run at the right res.
However this is not an ideal solution by any means, and I would like to be able to run this monitor from dvi, no adapters, as I suspect that would be the best quality, and also avoid odd third party resolution hacks.
My question is then, does anyone have any idea why the macbook would not register the monitor correctly, or what I might try to do to get things on track?

I'm on looking for a solution, but I can only get my external Viewsonic working if I methodically unplug and replug in the monitor cord to the MBP 4-5 times. Try unplugging it (wait for the flash) and replugging it in (again - wait for the flash and a few more seconds for good luck) a few times.
I've been reading some posts about it not sending a signal to projectors and TVs properly. I think that may be it - it knows the external monitor is there, but isn't sending the external monitor enough signal to wake it up. Check your System Preferences -> Displays to see if it knows it's there.

  • No signal via DVI to VGA adapter on my video projector Sharp PGM 15X

    Hi there!
I have a big problem with my video projector. It´s connected via mini DVI to VGA adapter to
the projector. The problem is, Mac OSX decect the projector but there is no picture.
To resize the solution on both, or one of them doesn´t help.
When I use my Bootcamp and reboot with Windows XP there is a picture on the video projector.
    I cant believe this.
What should I do to fix this problem?

I got my Mac Mini yesterday and I am having the exact same problem as you are having.
I've tried on two different TV's but it is just not sending a signal. Is it faulty?

  • Mini DVI to VGA cable doesn't send signal to the projector

I just received a mini DVI to VGA adapter cable today.
I connect mini DVI side of cable into my Macbook v. 4.1 and connect the other side into DGA cable, which connected to LCD projector.
When I connect the cable to my Macbook, the opened application streched out to a full screen (seems like computer detets the cable) but projector says 'no signal'.
Can any one tell me what is wrong it is?
    Thanks much
    Mike

    I'm still stucked.
By reading some articles, it says even using mini DVI adapter, the signal is still digital and if the projector doesn't accept digital signal then it's no use....
My projector is Epson EX3200 and it doesn't have any DVI or HDMI input.
Does this mean my projector doesn't accept a digital signal?
But, but, but if even uing mini DVI adapter cable it still doesn't conver to analog signal then why they call the cable a mini DVI to VGA cable???
Why should this world be so complecated.....
