Mavericks or mtn lion?

just bought a new 27" i7 imac. soon as I got it I hooked up fw to old imac and did migration assistant or wizard or whatever its called. Instead of mavericks i have mtn lion on the new computer. Just noticed. Could that have happened when migrating? let me also say that I really didnt want mavericks yet b/c of software & hardware issues with Native Instruments, Cubase and Focusrite....But I am still having issues with some of the afore mentioned software.. Any thoughts?

Your iMac most likely came with ML. You could not have erased Mavericks by simply migrating your User Folder, which I assume is what you did.
Check your versions of Cubase and Focusrite and make sure they are compatible with ML 10.8.

  • I have Mavericks on iMac I also need Mtn Lion

I installed Mavericks on my late 2012 27" Fusion iMac.  Turns out I need Mtn Lion for an important CAD app that will not be upgraded until 2014. Support says I cannot go back, and in fact cannot install any OS earlier than Mavericks now. He said if I partioned my HD I still could not install Mtn Lion.  Would it be possible to install 10.5 onto a Thunderbolt SSD external drive? Woulld that result in a satisfactory way to run my CAD program? Finally where could I get a full install?  Apple does not offer it.

I'm guessing you meant that you were thinking of installing 10.8.5 on the SSD, not 10.5? I would think that you should be able to go back to 10.8 via Internet Recovery:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
by repartitioning the drive to a single partition, thereby removing the existing Recovery Partition, and reinstalling. That in the past would get you the version of OS that came with your Mac. I haven't tried it, though, so I can't say with certainty that it's not now like iOS where you get the most recent version that runs on your system regardless of what it shipped with. If that's the case, you may need to purchase a retail copy of Mountain Lion, which can do here:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
then build a bootable installer flash drive from the downloading installer - the donationware DiskMaker X is the easiest way - then boot your iMac from that installer and either install on your iMac's hard drive or on your external, whichever you prefer.
    Regards.

  • Is there a way on Mtn Lion or Mavericks to increase the amount of time between NetBIOS broadcasts?

Is there a way on Mtn Lion or Mavericks to increase the amount of time between NetBIOS broadcasts? I am aware of how to disable it using a terminal command, but I am looking to try and modify the interval without disabling it all together. I am hoping to improve network performance across several hundred Mac systems. Any help is appreciated.

i'm trying to do the same thing!
i changed the still freeze frame length in the user preferences but it still will only allow me 2 minutes.
I want a company logo jpeg to appear at the bottom of my entire 58 minute video.
I cant get it to work.

  • Got Profile Manager working with Mtn Lion, but Apple's new deployment methodology has complicated things substantially - need help!

    Hello,
We recently (a month or so ago) were able to set up OSX Server/Profile Manager/Workgroup Manager on Mtn Lion, and deploy to Mac desktops (deploy 802.1x settings and certs)
When we upgraded the OSX Server to Mavericks, everything changed - PM is different in this version.  In order to enroll devices in PM it seems you need a Device Enrollment token, to get one you need to export a public key & add it to an MDM server on Apples website & in order to do that you need to create an account with Apple.  To create that account you need your Apple Customer # & a ‘work email address’ that is not already used.  Then you have to fill out a form & wait for Apple to approve it.
We have plans to utilize MDM at some point in the future, but for now, Profile Manager works fine - are we forced to utilize MDM in order enroll devices using profile manager with Mavericks/OSX Server 3.1.1?
Thanks for any and all help,
    -Drew

    Can anyone help with this?
Do I *have* to use MDM with OSX Server 3.1.1 in order to use PM?
    Thanks,
    -Drew

  • Can I upgrade to mtn. lion from lion?

Can I upgrade to mtn. lion from lion?

Mountain Lion and Mavericks have the same requirements. You might as well upgrade to Mavericks as it is newer, and unlike Mountain Lion, it's free. Check the requirements at http://apple.com/osx/specs.

  • Wish I had not "upgraded" to Mtn Lion

Wish I hadn't bought Mtn Lion.  Many changes, less user-friendly, lost use of Photo Shop Elements, AppleWorks, many more minor compaints. Have been a consistent and devout Apple/Mac user since 1985.  Never felt this lack of confidence in an Apple product.  No questions - just venting - but I still don't feel any better.

Yes, I did just upgrade.  And yes, I'm a bit of a retrograde.  I have never bought a new anything until the old one was worn out, otherwise useless, or the new one was so much improved that it didn't make sense to NOT buy it.  Staying with Snow Leopard along with the other old app versions you mention all qualify: They worked fine for my simple needs - UNTIL an Apple pro convinced me:  "You've GOT to get Mtn Lion - it's great!", etc.  I am sorry I did.  Snow Leopard and the other apps "weren't broken", as they say, but I drank the KoolAid.  I "tried to fix 'em".
After I wallow a bit more, I'll return to my Apple Store and learn about all the slick and wonderful new Mtn Lion things that I don't use or need, then probably join all the lemmings lined up to do the same with Maverick. Planned obsolescence obviously refers to more than what sits in my driveway.

  • Is there any way to roll back to Mtn Lion ?

I'm having the same slow slow slow finder opening folders as many others...
when I read the instructions folks are given to correct it (and it doesn't seem that any of them have worked), I am beginning to think I just want Mtn Lion back.
Is there any reasonable way to downgrade???
I keep hoping that there will be a mavericks update that will fix it, but I'm just plain tired of waiting and don't really like mavericks all that much anyway.
    Thanks
    Tom

Thanks, Michel. Did not know there was an app/report that might help me. Most of the advice given in the forum involved very complicated trips to terminal and (in my mind) dicey changes to the system.
I'll be waiting with baited breath to see if any alarms go off in your head when you see what I have - I guess there could well be one of the plugins causing it, but have no idea which one. Nothing really new here since before using Mavericks (and the same setup and problem on my brand new iMac)...
Thanks so much for taking the time to go over this for me.
    Tom

  • Since downloading Mtn.Lion my epson printer doesn't work correctly & the entire system seems to be slower plus my iMac now disconnects from my wifi every time the mac sleeps. Can anyone help me with these issues?

I am having problems with my Imac (approx 1 yr old) every since I downloaded (from the App.Store) Mountain Lion.  I am a working mom with 3 toddlers.....I have very little time to work on the computer which I primarily use for photograhpy needs.  I am not computer savvy enough to figure out how to "fix" the new issues/problems and am frustrated.  I am hoping someone can help me........
Issues just since downloading Mountain Lion:
    1)  My Epson R2400 printer is not printing properly.  It wouldnt print at all from CS5 the first 2 days.  Then just started printing.  The prints aren't nearly as good as they used to be.  I just installed Photoshop Elements 10 and have been able to print but the prints are just awful. I printed a test page and it was perfect.  I've triple checked the settings in the print dialogue box to ensure the correct paper is chosen, etc.  I've never let the printer manage the color before but it is the only option that gives a mediocre print at best.
I've gone to Epson.com.   It says to update driver through Apple for Mtn. Lion.  According to my computer I have no updates.  Printer is connected via USB. Changed the ports, turned printer on & off.  Emailed epson & they said to reset the print queue, which I did.  Restarted the IMac Still no luck.  (The error message I got when trying to print from CS5 is "filter failed." But, as stated before it just started printing today as I was typing this.
I print out pics quite a bit and it seems the only time I have ever had problems is when I upgraded the OSX system. Why is that??  When I upgraded to 10.7 is when I first realized my print quality went down.
    2)  Now every time I "wake" up my computer it has become offline and has to go through the steps to reconnect to my wifi.  Never did that before Mtn.Lion.  I purchased the Airport Extreme Dec 2011.  My computer was always connected before the update.  Now I have to scroll down & pick my network & wait for it to connect before proceeding.   I double checked preferences and it is set up to check for updates automatically.  What is that about??
    3)  It just seems that my system overall is slower.  I love my mac but I am frustrated because I don't have the free time needed to do all this problem solving.  I just need it to work properly when I have a few minutes to work on a picture.  I imagine there are other issues, but these are the only  2 areas I've focused on since the upgrade.
I've read different views/feedback on Mtn Lion but haven't come across the printer issue or the wifi connection issue.
Can anyone direct me towards a solution? I really appreciate it!
    T

I just figured out the print quality issue for my wife with her new iMac and new printer.
She replaced both at once and she couldn't understand why her Artisan 730 was lower quality then her Epson R280 when they had the same specs.
Turns out the newer printer had the option to connect via wifi which we used during setup.
The driver options are completely different depending on how you connect.
Once I connected via USB the correct options were available and the print quality was better.
Looking at the R2400 it dies not have wifi, but while researching the problem for my wife someone esle was having an issue updating to the latest printer driver.
If you go into the print utility from the Printer and Scanner system preference and under the general tab you should have driver 5.5.
One user had to delete the old printer driver before Software Update loaded the newer printer driver.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15947486#15947486
On my MacBook Pro (w Snow Leopard) I always had to reconnect my wifi at home when it woke up. I upgraded my router from an old Netgear to a newer N D-Link and stopped having to do that.
I would be surprised you would have that problem with an Airport Extreme, you might check to see if there is a firmware update for it.

  • Problems in Logic after transitioning from Snow Leopard to Mtn Lion

I have recently transitioned into Mtn Lion from Snow Leopard using Logic 9.1.8.  Now every time I try to open a project created using the EXS24 Bosendorfer piano (Logic) plug in, Logic crashes. I also use (and mix together) Miroslav Philharmonik plug ins and am haviing no trouble loading them (after an initial glitch).  Logic also crashes when I try to load the EXS224 Bosendorfer piano (Logic) plug-in into a project.  Suggestions for a fix?   What am I issing?  Thanks for any help here.

    Hello alkhater.
I did confirm that I am not using iCloud, so was able to cross that off the checklist.  I was able to resolve the issue by going into the Library folder and removing every file I could find that had "Address Book" in its name.  Then I rebooted the computer and started Contacts, which opened with the default Apple card and "User" card.  From there I was able to rebuild my Contacts, and it is now working normally.
Thanks for the feedback and enjoy your day.

  • How do I revert from Mavericks to Mt. Lion?

I have tried the suggestions contained in similar threads without success.  My configuration may be causing problems.  Here is my configuration and the pathway I would like to use:
As shown below, I have a MacPro early 2008 running OSX 10.9.  I have an iPhone 4S running iOS 7.0.3.  I back up Time Machine to an external hard drive and also to a separate internal hard drive that occupies one of the bays on my Mac Pro, but it is NOT the same hard drive on which Mavericks resides.
Before migrating from Mountain Lion 10.8.5 to Mavericks, I did a final backup of Time Machine to each of the two drives mentioned above.  I then proceeded to install Mavericks 10.9.  For me, this was a mistake.  I normally wait until at least three updates have occurred before moving up to the next OS X offering.  The many flaws I have encountered in the way Mavericks currently operates have funally exhausted my patience and I must revert to 10.8.5.
I would like to make the change using Time Machine for both the Mountain Lion operating system and all of the applications and documents.  If I were going to reinstall Snow Leopard 10.6.8, I would start by reinstalling the OS using the DVD which I have and then I would restore the apps and documents from Time Machine.  However, neither Mavericks nor Mountain Lion have DVDs.  I believe that they both can be installed by Time Machine, but this is where I run aground. I don't know how to make it happen.  I have tried and have been hindered by popup windows telling me I can't change the Applications.  I can't go on from there. I would prefer to dowload from the hard drive version of Time Machine rather than the external drive for the simple reason that the internal hard drive is faster.  If that is not advisable, I am certainly willing to go with the external drive.  It is my understanding that I can restore Mountain Lion directly from Time Machine along with all of the documents and other stored items such as Applications, Library, etc.
I have tried to do this, but can't seem to get the hang of it.  I need a tutor who knows how to do the job using this path.  Assistance will be greatly appreciated.

A SIMPLE METHOD FOR REVERTING FROM MAVERICKS BACK TO AN EARLIER OS X VERSION
There were so many caveats and side issues included on various instructions that didn't apply to me that I thought it was a bit confusing. However, I got the idea that restarting while pressing down the option key would give me access to the Recovery drive. I tried it and it gave me several choices. The top one was irresistible. It says "Restore From Time Machine Backup." I had done full backups using Time Machine to both an internal hard drive on my MacPro and an external hard drive just before installing Mavericks. I clicked on "Restore From Time Machine Backup" and selected the external drive since I wasn't sure that the internal drive would work. The internal backup drive is faster, but I felt the external drive was a safer bet. A window came up asking me to choose which backup I wanted to use. I picked the one I made just before installing Mavericks and it went to work. It took a couple of hours to finish, but as it restarted and Mountain Lion 10.8.5 appeared on the screen, I was totally relieved. I feel liberated. Everything works. No wacky glitches to say "gotcha!"
When you consider all of the written instructions, many of which are very difficult to follow, this very simple method of restoration is amazingly easy. I hope it helps others who are considering moving to OS X 10.9. Just get a good external Time Machine backup of your present system before you venture.

  • Can't figure out how to install mtn lion on macbook

bought an upgrade to mtn lion, but can't figure out how to use the license to install.  It says "go to Mac App Store main page and 'quick links', but I'm not sure i'm even on the right page.  no quick links button.  Help!

Are you definitely looking at the App Store application (from your Dock or the applications folder)? It does not mean the Apple Store website. You'll have the App Store provided you already have 10.6.8 or later installed - if you're not sure, click the Apple menu on the top left of your desktop, and click About This Mac.

  • Why can't I wait for Mtn Lion to use iCloud services?

I have an MBP running Snow Leopard, a new iPad and an original iPad, and an iPhone 3G.  I have been a MobileMe user from its inception.  I haven't wanted to "upgrade" to Lion on the MBP, but will jump over it to Mountain Lion in July.  I've read the workaround by Wilmer(?) for moving my me.com mail account to iCloud while still at 10.6.8 (lie and say i'm running Lion) and should be able to handle that. I will miss my MobileMe Gallery but all photos are in my MBP's iPhoto folder anyway, and I've emptied my iDisk folders.  I do sync calendar and contacts via MobileMe among all my devices, but as long as I'm sure that both are "on my Mac" before 30/06/2012, shouldn't I be able to lose MobileMe and wait until late July to formally make my MBP "compatible with iCloud" by purchasing Mtn Lion thru the App Store? I realize the iPhone 3G is "legacied-out".  But, will my wife's original iPad be able to sync calendars and contacts via iCloud, like it does now via MobileMe, if I wait as I've described?  BTW, we are US ex-pats living in Mérida, Yucatán, México.  No Apple Store, albeit there are authorized resellers.  Pero, no tengo suficiente español para hablar mucho con "technos" sobre ésta pregunta.

As regards your Mac, the process you describe will work. I can't advise on whether an original iPad can access iCloud - probably not, as iOS 5 is required, but I don't know whether it's upgradeable: someobdoy else may chip in, or you could ask in the iPad forum.

  • My files, photos, email files, software programs, and all information did NOT transfer over to Mavericks (from Mt. Lion).  How do I get all my stuff to appear when using Mavericks?

    Will someone please help me?

    My email did transfer over.
    Thank you.

First click on the Apple > Logout and Log back in or restart the unit see if that solves it.  If it doesn't do you have a backup of your system prior to upgrade?  Check Disk Utility and see how much space is being used to make sure the drive wasn't somehow erased.

  • Problem creating Mtn Lion Recovery partition on external drive.

USB external.  Newly erased, three partitions: one 2GB for Recovery HD, other two backups of my old SL machine and new ML machine (Mini). Those work and their respective machines fine.  Drive seems OK.
Used Recovery Disk Asst v. 1.0 to create Recovery HD on the small partition while booted into 10.8.2 (the brand new Mini).  Factory installed Mtn Lion Recovery HD exists on internal drive and it works— when starting with command-R or command-shift-R, not with Option key.     Install of Recovery HD to external seemed to go fine and doing a "diskutil list" in Terminal showed both the internal and external Recovery HD's, properly named as such.   However, when restarted with Option down the recovery partition showed up named the same as my internal— at that point "Macintosh HD" but later when I changed the internal's name, reinstalled the Recovery HD, and restarted with Option key the recovery partition now was named the same as new internal drive name.   Both times choosing the recovery partition resulted in booting into internal drive.
Was wondering if anyone had a similar problem— and found solution/reason.   Apple Tech Support particularly not helpful/knowledgeable on this subject.

    Hi Baltwo
Really appreciate the help.   Many thanks.     Finally seems to be working.     Not sure exactly what worked but in case you're interested I'll give you a, hopefully, short summary:
Using DU (after copy/paste of the command you wrote above into Terminal) I cloned the working internal drives RDH to the partition for it on the ext.   Failed— still seemed to work as almost an alias pointing at the boot volume on the internal.
So, erased the external again; didn't partition, did a reinstall of ML from DU while booted into RDH of internal.  Then started from that new ML partition on external and let Setup Asst migrate everything over from the internal to keep Users/Permissions from being a problem.
When that finished I tried to restart w option key.   Got a recovery HD that was called exactly that but, again, booted into internal boot drive.   Booted into internals RHD just to make sure it was OK and it was.
For whatever reason again restarted w option key.   This time I got four choices:  the boot volume of internal and external, an ext volume called Recovery HD (the trickster), and another volume called Recovery 10.8.3.   Something new— and, as Bill Murray said in Ground Hog Day, "anything new is good."   So I tried booting into that new RHD 10.8.3.  (Note, I'm still running 10.8.2 on boot volumes.)
And that worked— booted into Recovery HD but no way that I could figure to see for sure that it was the Recovery HD on ext vs. on internal.   I think I need to activate the Debug menu on the RHD DU so I can choose the 10.8.3 recovery and see if I have the option of Repairing the disk or it's greyed out.  If greyed, then proves I'm booted into it.   Might be a more elegant way to see that but it's the one I know.    Still, I assume I was in the RHD on the external.
Then made a second partition for the old mac's backup and that initially resulted in the boot volume of the internal backup not be mountable but after a restart or two testing the two RHD's, the mini decided to see all the volumes and things are, for the moment, copacetic.
Hope that wasn't too long and boring.    From my experience and reading on the 'net, my general sense is that there are a bunch of variables that all have to be right for this process to work.  Probably less is more and just installing ML on a disk by itself will be the most reliable method, if most wasteful of data storage.
Regardless, couldn't have done it without you, baltwo.   I don't use this forum enough to know what the etiquette and protocols are but I marked all of your posts as useful, which they were, and, finally, as solving my issue, which they did.
    Thanks again
