Mavericks Outlook 2011 Password Prompt (Solution)

I have a Macbook Pro running Mavericks. Outlook 2011 kept pushing the password prompt to the screen. I have searched and searched for a solution. I have seen the following solutions offered:
Issues with Keychain corruption
Outlook autodiscovery
Deleting files
Reinstalling Outlook
Reinstalling Mavericks
I'm not doing any reinstalls because until I installed Mavericks I didn't have Outlook problems. So reinstalling Outlook and the OS was not an option for me because I do so much work on my Mac.
But I'm in IT so I decided to begin to dig deep into this because regardless of the proposed solutions offered there was still someone in the thread say, "I tried this but it didn't work for me." I too was one of them.
The distinction I needed popped into to my face looking at another thread but the user didn't answer the guys question. He simply asked the complaining user, "Are you on wireless, 802.1x?" That was it.
I was on wireless 802.1x environment.
Our wireless controller does authenticate to the Active Directory server.
I did use the iPhone Configuration Utility to create my wifi profile.
I did import the CAs needed for my profile.
My profile does work.
But what about the Exchange portion of my profile?
The Exchange portion of my profile was EMPTY? The password kept coming back because my user/machine level authentication was being managed by my wireless profile. Due to this my profile took responsibility for authenticating to my WIFI connection as well as my Exchange account. In the end the profile seems to takes precedence in the 802.1x authentication.
I went back the iPhone Configuration Utility, clicked on my profile, clicked on the Exchange and filled in my domain\username, my email address, my password and a few other boxes. I exported my profile to my desktop and clicked on it. Since my profile still had the same name I was asked if I wanted to "Overwrite" my existing profile to which I responded, "Yes"
Since yesterday I have not had anymore issues with Outlook or Office Communicator.
To add I still disabled App Nap.
I hope this helps anyone. If you have migrated from MLion to Mavericks running MS Office you will have this problem if you are working in an 802.1x wireless environment.

Exchange 2013 - External Windows XP/Outlook 2007 Password Prompt

I have an Exchange 2013 server and everything is working correctly internal with XP clients that are connected to the domain. My problem is that the Windows XP computers that are connecting from outside of the office that aren't connected to the domain

Outlook Anywhere Password Prompts - Only on certain external networks

I am running a standalone Exchange 2007 SP3 server on Windows Server 2008. I have published Outlook Anywhere via ISA 2006. Outlook Anywhere is configured for Basic Authentication. All clients are using Windows 7 with Outlook 2007 with latest
service pack. This is not a new configuration, I have been running this for quite some time.
I have a strange issue going on. The issue is that Outlook Anywhere users receive a prompt for their username and password ONLY when they are connected to certain external networks. Users began reporting this several months back. It happens on
all mobile users that I have tested with.
Basically, what happens is a user takes their domain joined laptop out to another work site. This site is not connected to our network. The IT department of the site connects my users laptop to there network. User then starts Outlook, Outlook
connects via HTTPS as it should, down in the bottom of Outlook it shows that it is connected to Exchange. However, within usually about 30 seconds the password prompt comes up. User puts password in and clicks remember and OK, but
the password box comes right back up. Sometimes it will except the password and run for a little while but then prompt again.
If I check Outlook Connection Status it displays that connections are established via HTTPS as they should be. Latency isn't too high averaging about 150 - 300ms.
If the user clicks Cancel instead of entering their password, Outlook will continue to run and it can send and receive email. Connection status still will show connected. However, if the user opens the address book and tries to access one of our
Address lists other than the GAL, then Outlook displays a message stating the user doesn't have permission. If the user clicks need password at the bottom and then enters their password at the prompt the address book will work.
This happens at several work sites, each different networks. My first thought is some sort of firewall issue at the sites but the IT at the sites say there should be no firewall blocking going on.
I have tested probably 5-6 other wifi networks, both public and private and Outlook Anywhere works perfectly on everything but these few work sites.
I have used testexchangeconnectivity.com at the sites at it tests fine. I have cleared the cached credentials from "Manage Windows Credentials".
Any assistance is appreciated.

I've set up a new infrastructure for our network with a 2k12 DC and a 2k12 member running Exchange 2013. The internal domain is set up like ad.domainname.com and I've configured mailflow for domain.com on Exchange which works perfectly. Internal autodiscover
works like a charm and with https://testconnectivity.microsoft.com/ I get green results for the autodiscover.domain.com on activesync, autosetup and outlook connectivity. I've used a comodo wildcard ssl
certificate for the domain.
However when I try to use autosetup on outlook it gives a password prompt on both the 2nd and 3rd step which I have to enter like domainname\username to get past them. After that it works fine but I want it to configure automatically without the extra password
prompt.
On mobile devices it searches for the settings and then asks for the servername and domain credentials. I would like this to be auto configured as well but I can't find the reason why it prompts for this.

For the Outlook setup are you using a Domain joined computer or a nondomain joined computer? For NonDomain joined computer you will always get prompted for a password because there is no AD Security token to send to Exchange to verify. Same thing
with ActiveSync. Your phone isn't joined to the domain, so it has to ask for a password to verify your identity.

Outlook 2013 password prompts

When I'm using Outlook 2013 client from home laptop (not joined to domain)I get random password prompts saying connecting to [email protected] I just close them all (9 prompts) and I can continue to use Outlook normally. Outlook doesn't accept
any credentials to those prompts. Our Exchange server is 2010. How can I trace what is causing those prompts?

Check your credential manager for any old passwords. Is this an exchange or pop account? Try changing your authentication method in outlook to use basic instead of NTLM and see if the popups disappear.

2010 to 2013 Public Folder Migration - PF work in OWA but not outlook Client, password prompt?

Hello All,
I have migrated all public folders from Exchange 2010 Sp3 to Exchange 2013 Cu7. You can access the public folders without any problems in OWA.
When trying to access in outlook i will get a password/username prompt. If i enter my details in this it will keep popping up even with the remember me button ticked.
When i check the connection status i see the below the status which is "connecting" is the PF; it will never connect.
I have done:
Reboots
Restart the Microsoft Exchange RPC Client Access service on the Exchange 2013 server
Tried changing the Logon network security in the outlook client which made no difference:
Tried logging into the outlook client as different user which made no difference
What else can i do please?

Please check if you have NTLM configured for Outlook Anywhere on your Exchange 2010.
Get-OutlookAnywhere | fl Identity,*auth*
And please check the server the public folder is trying to connect.

Why are missing items when import pst files to Outlook 2011 for mac?

Hello.
After installing Office 2011 for Mac I configured Outlook and it was allright.
But when I tried to import a pst file from the old laptop who has Office 2007, I found that in the Outlook 2011 Inbox I have only ~60% items comparative with the Outlook 2007 Inbox.
From Microsoft Office forums I've got an answer that there are indeed some reports with missing items when import pst in Outlook 2011 but the solution they gave me (create folders in Inbox before import) doesn't work.
Do you know something about this kind of problems?
Is it a feature in Outlook 2011 which automaticaly select/delete/combine items based on the similarity between them or based something else?
Have you an ideea how to finally use this macbook and in the same time all my old emails?

Thanks for this-yes, eventually, I do send/receive fine, once I've poppedd my passwords in.
I think you are right in that BT seem to be having unique server/login issues...at least this is what I've read elsewhere too.
Iroonically, this AM I opened my new Mac and have *not* been asked for passwords so perhaps the changes I made in the settings yesterday (keychain reset in Mac) and also changing it from smtp.....to mail.btinternet.com solved the issue...who knows? All I know is this last week I've nearly lost the will to live on more than one occasion, from the transition from PC Windows Live Mail to Outlook for Mac.

MS Outlook 2011 for Mac will no longer automatically send and receive email since upgrade to OS 10.9 Mavericks. Does anyone know of a solution?

I have been having trouble with Outlook 2011 for Mac since updating to OS 10.9 Marvericks. I have tried updating the database and identity. I can get email if a go to each account and try to download it. But email will not come automatically and can I send and receive all accounts. Does anyone have a solution? I do not want to lose my email, contacts and information.

I am also finding that searching in Mail for emails in this account is leading to false negative results. It's astonishing that I can search for an email I know is in the Inbox list yet not find it unless I scroll down to it manually and clicking it. Then it will show up in the results if I search again. I just did "rebuild" a day ago (have to do that every few days or so to get Outlook Exchange emails restored again anyway), so I doubt that this would fix the issue, but even if it did it's ridiculous... do I really have to abandon Mail and move to Microsoft Outlook on my mac to read my emails? Mail is currently FAILING to work for those of us who have to deal with Microsoft servers... which must be a huge # of customers, Apple.

i've gone through posts related to the topic but have not been able to figure out a related response that i can understand.
i'm running outlook 2011 on macbook air / OS Mavericks 9.4.
When i put in my exchange server settings, it connects, prompts asking to allow auto discover settings. i click yes, it downloads emails then abruptly asks for username and password non-stop. If i click cancel then outlook disconnects.
My company is running a hosted exchange server (2010) on something called "rackspace". My IT admin is not provided access to the server itself but rather to a limited control panel which is primarily of no use. He accessed my profile
with this control panel and downloaded outlook 2011 under my profile along with profile configuration tool on rackspace. Nothing seems to work.
When the IT admin chatted with the guys at rackspace, they had no clue what was causing the problem.
i have now installed windows 8.1 pro and outlook 2013 on the MAC via VMWARE virtual machine. Outlook does work, asks for the password a few times during the day but after entering credentials multiple times - continues to work.
I'm now desperate to figure out how to get outlook 2011 / exchange emails to work on the MAC.
Hope someone can help me arrive at a solution.

According to your description, your account works properl on Outlook for Windows but prompt credentials on Outlook for MAC. If I misundertand your meaning, please feel free to let me know.
If yes, I recomemnd you try to access your account on other Outlook for Mac client or check if other Outlook for Mac users come across the same issue. If yes, I recommend you contact with your admin and check if there is something wrong with your EWS virtual
directory. Because, Outlook for MAC will contact the EWS virtual directly, which is different from the Outlook for Windows clients.

How can I migrate from Outlook 2011 to iCal and Apple Address Book in Mavericks now that synching is no longer possible?

Now that I am on Mavericks and no longer able to sync between my iPhone/iPad and Outlook 2011 on my MacBook Pro, I'm finally taking the leap (which I should have done long ago) and abandoning Outlook 2011 all together (doesn't help that Outlook now prompts me to rebuild by Identity multiple times per day). I am hoping to export from Outlook to iCal, Address Book, etc, but I would love it if someone could check my steps.
Delete iCal and Apple Address Book content -- Because I have old data in iCal and Address Book (that was synched before I upgraded to Mavericks), I planned to delete this data as follows:
Manually deleting my multiple calendars in the iCal app
Go to Go>Home>Library>Calendars and drag "Calendar Cache" to trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Caches and drag "com.apple.iCal" and "com.apple.AddressBook" to the trash
Go to Go>Home>Library>Application Support and drag "Address Book" to the trash
Export Outlook 2011 Calendars to iCalIs there a file format that I can use to export from Outlook 2011 and then import into iCal? I will use this file format to individually export each of my calendars from Outlook 2011 and import them into iCal.

But I found a solid key answer for exporting from Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9.1) Outlook 2011 to iCal for Apple mail. This is possible through Drag and Drop method via this you can undoubtedly migrate Outlook 2011 Calendar to ical format.

Outlook 2011 for Mac keeps asking me for password

I had been using Windows Live Mail (pop 3) for years until last week; rarely, if ever had any problems downloading my mail.
I just bought a Mac computer and am using Outlook 2011 for Mac; my operating system is Maverick (if that means anything to anyone).
The BT tech guys suggested I set up my mail accounts as IMAP so that all mail read on the server syncs etc. with my Outlook. It all sounded great. However, ever since I installed Outlook for Mail it asks me for my password numerous times during the day (for each of my 5 email accounts)....it usually does this when the computer has been in sleep mode, i.e., when Outlook tries to download mail from the server.
Something else to mention is that whilst the BT tech guys set up my IMAP accounts with:
Incoming Port - 993 (requires SSL)
Outgoing Port - 465 (requires SSL/TLS)
The BT Mail department (today) told me to revert back to 110 (outgoing) and 25 (incoming) and to call the incoming and outgoing mail.btinternet.com instead of the smtp.........(I forget the rest of it now) that the tech guys set it up as.
I've since reverted the incoming and outgoing to mail.btinternet.com but haven't changed the numbers to 110 and 25 because the BT Mail guy said "if you are able to send/receive using the 993 and 465...just leave them. And I *am* able to send/receive. The problem is more the password prompt and the message "server not recognised" or whatever it says....I can't recall the exact words.
I phoned Apple and they of course say it is an Outlook problem; not an Apple one, though they did help me delete the mail settings in their keychain thingie so that I could put in my passwords again (all passwords are correct by the way).
Apple did ask, however if my internet service provider are happy for me to have mail set up as IMAP; she epxlained that it really isn'y *my* choice; it's the server people's choice.
My questions are therefore: 1) who/what is my server? Is it BT? My email addresses are all btinternet.com and I'm also using BT Broadband for both home and my business/office.
I just don't understand why Outlook keeps prompting me for password so my second question is 2) does anyone know why I am being prompted for my password as often as I am? Does this have to do with IMAP settings? with Outlook? or with my Server? or possibly all of the above? and how does one identify the real issue?

Thanks for this-yes, eventually, I do send/receive fine, once I've poppedd my passwords in.
I think you are right in that BT seem to be having unique server/login issues...at least this is what I've read elsewhere too.
Iroonically, this AM I opened my new Mac and have *not* been asked for passwords so perhaps the changes I made in the settings yesterday (keychain reset in Mac) and also changing it from smtp.....to mail.btinternet.com solved the issue...who knows? All I know is this last week I've nearly lost the will to live on more than one occasion, from the transition from PC Windows Live Mail to Outlook for Mac.

Outlook 2011 Slow in Mavericks

About every minute or so when typing a new message in Outlook 2011, I get the spinning color wheel indicating a pause.
It's really frustrating and makes outlook almost unusable. It happens in all accounts. I ahve one echange, one imap, and one pop account.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Similarly, I've been battling with Outlook for Mac related issues since Mavericks. Although this might not be relevant to all Outlook users, I'm posting this in case of others coming across this thread, and using this solution that has remedied my long standing problems.
Symptoms:
Issue connecting to Exchange server, continually trying to refresh email, emails took ages to construct - often letter by letter, unable to click into emails, etc.
Solution:
I was experiencing repeated Proxy login prompts. Details were saved in keychain, but still I needed to keep updating. Unbeknown to me, this was impacting the ability of Outlook to function normally. Although these prompts didn't originate from Outlook, they were impacting.
The solution is to ensure that you have working proxy settings saved in the system keychain, not just your personal login keychain.
So when you next get one of these dialogs:
Note the server name that is requesting authentication, the port (usually 8080) and if it is an http or https request. Typically it will be something in the form https://someproxyserver.someorganization.com:8080
See if you already have an entry for that server in your login keychain. If not, make one manually, (being sure to enter the whole thing as per the example above with the :8080 at the end). Typically that there needs to be two separate keychain entries per proxy server, one for http and a second for https, though syncdefaultsd only uses https.
Once you have login keychain entries for the proxy server, double-click them and ensure that under Access all applications are allowed, and that your user name is saved.
Now for the fun bit. Option-drag and drop these entries into your system keychain. Click on the system keychain, and confirm that they are there, and that all the settings are exactly right.
For good measure, do a shift-restart then a normal restart.
You should now get no more annoying dialogs for that particular proxy server. If your proxy server has more than one alias, or if you have several, then whenever you get a new unidentified dialog, repeat the above.
I hope this helps someone else in continuing to use Outlook.

Outlook 2011 for Mac suddenly requiring passwords

I've had Outlook 2011 for Mac installed on my Pro (Operating System: Mavericks) for 5 months now and all of a sudden, it's requiring that I enter my password for each email account (I have 4) every time I log in to the program.
I've typed in the passwords and selected "save to keychain" but that doesn't seem to solve the problem. Please help as this is extremely aggravating!

Note: This can be a sign of database issues in Outlook or you can simply ignore and it will connect without adding passwords. Mail also has this issue with passwords

Open Keychain Access in Applications/Utilities.
Run Keychain First Aid
Next....
In Keychain, filter on an account in the top right search box.
Open the entry.
In the Attributes window, select to Show password. You'll need to enter your computer login password to view.
Verify it's entered correctly.
Next click on the Access Control tab.
Do you see Outlook listed? If not add it.
You might also find many duplicate entries in the keychain. Most email accounts have a sending and receiving entry. However the Keychain.app does not delete old ones when you add a new password so this list can become cluttered. You might want to delete all entries for your email account(s) and add passwords again in Outlook.
If you have Exchange or IMAP you might want to test the new Outlook v15 free in preview. Requires Yosemite.

Outlook 2011 suddenly does not recognize password

I am running OS X 10.9.2 Mavericks. I recently have developed a problem accessing my Exchange account mail through Outlook 2011. The error message I receive is:
The server for account "XXXX" returned the error "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." Your username/password or security settings may be incorrect. Would you like to try re-entering your password?
I have taken the following steps:
1. I have deleted the account and re-installed the account.
2. I have gone into Advanced settings in the Account tab in Outlook and verified that the username and password is correct.
3. I have tried the NapApp fix which did not solve the problem.
4. I have run Keychain verification which indicated no repairs needed.
5. I have deleted the password from the keychain which did not solve the problem.
Any suggestions?
