Mavericks Preview Ver. 7.0 Annotations

I have run into a problem applying both a signature and text in annotations to a PDF in Preview.  In doing so, the annotations appears to be applied and saved perfectly.  I can close the document and reopen it with both annotations.  However, when I attempt to drag the PDF into Mail or Pages, only the signature appears.  The text disappears.
I found a work around by saving the PDF as a JPEG and then re-saving the file as a PDF, but this is clearly an unsatisfactory way of accomplsihing the task.

No it is there. After you open tha Annotate bar, click the line (5th from left), which should make the size line selection appear. You can select the arrow there.

  • Annotated PDF from Preview will not display annotations in iPad mail

I have an Annotated PDF from Preview will not display annotations in iPad mail, yet, it will display them on my Macbook Air. I confirmed this with another iPad user. Same results. Any ideas.

I had the same issue. iAnnotate PDF will display your annotations made in preview and allow you to annotate on the iPad. It is a great app, I and quite happy with it.

  • Yosemite Preview is not the same as Mavericks Preview!

Preview App in Yosemite renders annotations differently than Preview in Mavericks.
I have several PDFs that were annotated with previous versions of Preview that were great. Opening up those PDFs in Yosemite shows "stroked" text border around text boxes and a different font size, ruining the formatting and original annotation. It looks fine on Quicklook, but when the PDF is actually opened, there is change in the annotation formatting.
I have also tested opening these PDFs with Preview version 7 (from Mavericks) in Yosemite and everything appears as it always normally had.  This definitely appears to be an issue with Version 8's rendering engine or layout engine. Note: I have only ever used Preview for these annotations
Here are some screenshots of the Preview issue:
First shot is of the PDF with Quicklook on Yosemite
Second shot is of the PDF opened with Preview 7 (Mavericks version) on Yosemite
Third shot is of the PDF opened with Preview 8 on Yosemite

I have been using Preview for a few years, and found it was very easy to use it to fill in forms (adding text in the right boxes, signing it, etc), or to annotate articles and theses written by my students (adding annotation boxes quickly). Now:
    - I cannot get the "Text Insertion" function to do anything at all (so I cannot use Preview to fill in forms anymore).
    - When I insert a line, it always gets put in the middle of the screen and I have to move both ends one by one (which is very slow). I cannot draw a line by clicking on origin and destination anymore (as I have done in drawing software for more than 20 years!).
    - When I insert my signature, it always gets put in the center and has to be moved, which is very slow (why no more click and drag a rectangle ?).
    - Annotations also always get inserted in the center and have to be moved later to the desired location.
This is all very slow and annoying. Operations that were done with a single click now require two or three clicks and mouse motions. And for text insertion, I just cannot see how to do it at all.
Is there a way to mitigate at least some of these issues ?
For now, I try to survive with the older version of Preview, but I notice that it does not behave very well anymore when installed in Yosemite. I also sent feedback. But I do need a solution ASAP, so if anyone has ideas, I will appreciate it greatly!
    Thanks!

  • After upgrade to Maverick, Preview sometimes doesn't respond to scroll

When I use two-finger scroll, sometimes it doesn't work, you have to wait or put arrow to other apps and change back to Preview so as to scroll. Is it bug of Maverick? Anyone also face this problem?

I also have been having this issue since day one of updating to Mavericks, I have researched online and many forums are reporting similar and additional problems with preview. As a student i use Preview everyday to edit my class notes, and the program has this aformentioned scrolling issue (and i have to do the same things you do alex to fix it) and i also find that if the preview file or files are open in the doc or in another desktop screen, that if i click the icon for the open PDF, the file does not open and even the double clicking animation is VERY delayed. (Normally if you double click the icon of an open PDF it should take you to that window with the file..)
Is there a fix or any way to report this to Apple to have it updated in a patch?
    Thank you!

  • Preview 4.1 (Leopard) Annotations Disappear in Pages 3.0.2 (iWork '08)

I used the nifty new Annotate / Add Oval feature in Preview to highlight something of interest in a PDF. The PDF was originally a graphic PNG file, converted to PDF using Save As from Preview. I saved the changes to the PDF and they appear if I open it in Preview again or attach to an e-mail message. The annotations even appear when I open the PDF with Acrobat.
The annotation disappears when I place the PDF inside of a Pages document. Why? Is there a work around? What good are annotations that don't "stick"?

It appears that Pages "grabs" the graphic image from within the PDF when you use Insert and locate the PDF or if you drag and drop the PDF into the Pages document. Since it isn't rendering the whole PDF file, but just grabbing the embedded image, the Annotation is gone.
My work around is to open the PDF in Preview, the use "Shift - Control - Command - 4" to allow me to capture the annotated image to the clipboard. This is inconvenient because I have to manually drag a rectangle around the image on screen, but I can then paste it into Pages with annotations in tact. Kind of kludgey, but it works. Since the original image was a screen resolution raster image anyway, I am not bothered by the quality. But I do wonder why Pages isn't handling inserted PDFs better than this.

  • Paste from PDF in Preview creates gibberish after annotations

I've seen several posts about this but have not been able to find an actual solution and it would not let me reply to any of the posts...
I open a PDF in Preview. It functions just fine (I can copy and paste normally).
I then make some annotations (highlighting, adding arrows etc...)
    I save.
I open the file later to make more annotations.
I can no longer copy and paste. Well, I CAN but it just pastes nonsense. If I open it in Acrobat Pro, it acts the same way.
I first noticed this when using text to speech. I often have my computer read to me as I follow along highlighting as needed. I do a lot of research so the text to speech option saves my eyes sometimes. Anyway, the text to speech works the same as the copy/paste. It reads just fine at first, then after some annotations, something slips up and it starts reading the same thing that it would copy and paste.  For example..
"Ten Reasons for IT Educators to be Early Adopters of IT Innovations"
    becomes
    "./%(@/&A"%A()"$(*.(45#0&,"$A(,"(B/(( 4&$'3(C5"D,/$A(")(*.(*%%"E&,-"%A("
    Help?

It looks to me like that part of the text has been transcoded into the Unicode Private Use Area for some reason. I've seen in this various other pdf's, and I think it is a bug in the app which produced the pdf. PUA code points are undefined, so the OS displays the Last Resort Font symbol for that range.

  • In Preview, the simple line annotation seems to have been removed. When I select the tool, there is an arrow annotation instead of the simple line earlier.

The simple line annotation in the Preview Application seems to have been replaced rather oddly by an arrow. I wish to use the simple line in a PDF document without an arrow at the end. Its a very important annotation that I use very frequently.

Choose line width at the top of this pull-down in the Annotate tools. Choose simple lines, right, left or two-way arrows at the bottom of the pull-down...

  • Color 1.0.4 on Mavericks- preview flashes

    Hello,
I have FCS 2 on Mavericks installed and evything works fine except preview in Color 1.0.4
During playback or color correction preview flashes- I have only this one issue (I don't use qmaster so doesn't working pref pane is not issue for me)
Have you solution for this flashing preview in Color on Mavericks?
I don't want to buy and use Adobe Speedgrading because it's poor software

Color 1.0.4 isn't supported on Mavericks. That's 6 year old software on an OS that Apple made without making sure that FCP Legacy worked on it.  Zero testing.
Solution...back up your files, reinstall the OS that works best with Final Cut Studio 2, then install all your apps. If you use this software to make a living, don't update the OS unless it is fully supported.

  • Preview won't save annotations.

    MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.8
Preview has suddenly stopped saving annotations (arrows, circles, underlines) that I apply to a PDF.  The PDF was created from a file on a web site that I printed as a PDF to my desktop.  This has not been a problem in the past, but only in the last week or so and long after I installed 10.6.8 from 10.6.7.
    Any suggestions appreciated.

    Sorry,
Did you close because you got an answer, the problem was solved or because there was no response and no solution?
I am having this issue, but only on certain .pdf's and if I select the general area of the text box, the annotation returns, but this is obviously time consuming.
    Any ideas.

  • Mavericks Preview corrupts image file

I am running Mavericks on iMac circa 2011.  I can use Preview to open 16 bit tiff image files which are 1 or 2 MB each.  Because the pixel values are small, I use the Auto Level button within the Adjust Color tool to see a decent image.  However, if I then close the file by clicking on the x on the top left corner of the image, the saved image will now have zeros in the entire image.  That is, opening it again will not show anything even with the Adjust Color tool   I checked by opening it with MATLAB and sure enough, everything is zero.  This does not occur if I do not try to adjust the image contrast using the Auto Level tool.   This also does not occur if I hit the 'Reset' button within Adjust Color before closing the file.  Please help!

The startup drive is failing, or there is some other internal hardware fault.
Back up all data on the drive immediately if you don't already have a current backup. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.

  • Mavericks Preview Opens Password Protected PDF?

I exported a image in CS6 Illustrater as a pdf. I saved the pdf using two passwords. One password was for opening it and the second one for editng it. It was saved with any editing turned off. When I opened it in Preview on Mavericks the Preview app correctly displayed a password textfield to open it. After I entered the password it opened correctly. When I attempted a basic edit of the pdf, a simple rotatation of the image, Preview displayed a little note indicating that the original document was password protected so it made a copy of the original pdf. I was then free to edit the copy in Preview such as rotate, add txt, and so forth. I don't think this is going to make many people who distribute and sell password protected pdf files that happy. What the heck is going on here?

It looks like this issue may be limited to files that have been set to restrict the user's ability to print or edit the document (even after a password has been entered for viewing).  I found that a password-protected PDF could be viewed in iBooks, but after I added the print restriction, I had the same problem you reported.

  • Preview app: Add text annotation with left justify?

I'm using the Preview app to insert text into some PDF files. I can use the Annotate feature to create a text box in the area I need it and adjust the font, color, size, etc. The only thing I can't seem to do is set the justification to Left Justify. It will show text as center justify - anyone know how to change this?

I can find out what the defaults are with:
    defaults read com.apple.preview
There are many properties but a TextAligment property is not one of them.
I tried below but they do not work.
    defaults write com.apple.preview NSTextAlignment 0
    defaults write com.apple.preview PVAnnotationTextAlignment 0
    NB: 0 means left alignment
    Any idea?
Maybe Apple has to create an text alignment feature for the GUI or provide the property that we can set it from Terminal.

  • Maverick Preview malfunction

My preview. as of yesterday has ceased showing me text in my PDF documents. I have long used preview to view pdfs and i cannot imagine why they would cease working now.
    Details:
I use these PDFs on dropbox with about 100 other people who read them as well.
I downloaded and installed Divvy yesterday and needed to run a program to make it work with accesability.
I pasted this code into console "sudo sqlite3 /Library/Application\ Support/com.apple.TCC/TCC.db 'delete from access where client like "%divvy%"'"
i am sure it isnt necessary to include that code but i wanted to add in everything that happened around the time i noticed.
attached are the print screens of both the working pdf (third party program PDF++) and preview

Log into your Guest account and see if you can view PDF in Preview?
If no, the probem is at the base level.
If yes, you will need to fix your User's folder.

  • How do I print PDF files in preview with the added annotations?

Is there a way to print out the document with the added notes that are next to the slides?

When you add notations to a PDF document, you need to hit "save" for every page before doing anything else. If you forget to save the changes for each page, they will not re-appear. So, if you save the change, it should then print with your notations.
