Mavericks slowing down system; Etrecheck results?
Since I installed Mavericks it's really slwoing down my operating system.
I have repaired disk permissions in safe mode, which hasn't improved things.
So after reading on here I tried Etrecheck. But I'm not sure how to interpret the results.
Could someone please tell me if there is some obvious things I should change, uninstall etc?
Thanks in advance.

SIlverkeeper seems to work fine on Mavericks. And Lacie don't have a more recent alternative to Silverkeeper.
System still v slow, spinning raimbow ball etc.
Might it be helpful to re-install Mavericks?
I can't do a clean install as I don't have the install disks of most of my other software with me.

Many other users are having sucess by using EtreCheck to show what is installed so they can remove or update the 3rd party software, it can be a long process.

Will installing OS X mavericks slow down my late-2007 macbook pro? If so, is it worth it?
I currently run OSX 10.7.5 on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb mem.Does it meet the specs for Lion?
Are your third apps compatible?
I'd also be sure to have at least 4GB RAM and 10-15% free space on your HDD. -
Why is Mavericks slowing down my whole system?
I've had Mavericks installed since the day it was released and I'm still having slowdown problems. I've run Disk Repair and even upgraded to 8GB RAM. I'm running a late 2011 Macbook Pro and I'm losing my mind. Below are my EtreCheck results, a process recommended in another thread. Can anyone help me?

Installing and uninstalling BlackBerry Desktop Software on a Mac
You may have to do further research for the BB software as it has been reported the Blackberry's uninstaller doesn't remove all components. -
Yes it's another Mavericks slowing down my laptop thread :)
Hi there
I recently installed Mavericks, just before Xmas in fact, and noticed how slow it was from the start. Now I'm back at work, it's killing me!
First off, I had lots of problems with Mail, and something to do with Keychain (forgive me, laptop is a tool, I don't really understand how it works). I managed to get that working, although, I must say it still is slow at collecting mail from my various accounts.
Word, well that's just hysterical. I can sit and type a few lines, sit back and watch Word catch up with me over a minute or so, then have to go back and correct my terrible typing, it's painful and un-usable. I have noted on here to rebuild my Office Database, which I've done, and it appeared to have no problems.
So what to do? I heard about EtreCheck so have run that and will paste results below, I'm hoping that someone will spot something there that is really obvious and return me to fact Mac nirvana.
I'm on a 2011 MacBook Pro, 2.8ghz Intel Core i7, 4GB RAM. i don't have lots of 3rd party stuff installed, but do run Photoshop, Quark, Office and a few other apps.
Here's hoping for help, and thanks in advance!
Jonny

About memory management in OSX 10.9 Mavericks
Memory is managed differently, and more efficiently in 10.9. It is (mostly) unique in the industry, but may become trend.
Let’s start with the basics. Mechanical disk drives are very slow, with access speeds in the 10s of milliseconds and transfer rates in the 200-400 Mbps range real world. SSDs are much faster, on the order of a couple of ms access and typically 1200-3000 mbps transfer rates. RAM is much faster than either, in the nanosecond access and transfer speeds of ~8 Gbps effective (1 GHz x 8 bits/byte).
These are rough numbers for comparison purposes only.
So the goal is to keep as much in RAM as possible. But if you run out of RAM what do you do?
Traditionally you take the least used RAM and write it to a special part of the disk, in a way that you can access it most efficiently - minimizing the disk delays. This is called a swap file because you swap RAM in and out of it.
10.9 has a new trick: it compresses RAM using the main processors. Rather than swapping stuff to disk (disks are slow), it actually uses the processor to compress memory and make, for example, 1 GB of physical RAM hold as much as 1.5GB. Similar approaches are used to make MP3 files 10x smaller than the real thing - there is redundancy in data and you can take advantage of that. Apple is making the following calculation: the processors can compress way faster than the disk can swap. And its also predicting that the processors are often partly idle - waiting for swap files or disk access. So rather than swap files around, its compresses the files ***in RAM***.
Compression works,. Tests show that on average it is faster, and that 4GB (i have 4 GB RAM) acts like 5 1/2 - 6GB. Wow.
So, 10.9 will load up most of your RAM, knowing that it can compress some when it needs to. So don’t worry too much that it may look like all your RAM is taken - yea, it is, but its OK.
The measures to look at are:
1. amount compressed. Compression means it has run out of RAM and needs more. As long as compression is low this is fine. In fact this is how 10.9 uses RAM more efficiently than 10.6,7 or 8. Contrary to common wisdom, it requires LESS RAM than 10.8. The colored indicator tells you who this is going - green (good), yellow( iffy) and red (bad).
2. amount swapped. Once it cannot compress any further, or can’t do so efficiently, jot begins old-fashioned swapping. This is a major slow-down and means you would benefit from more RAM. Tiny amounts are OK.
here's an article by Apple - but on th pre-10.9 memory management techniques....mostly still true, but read on.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1342?viewlocale=en_US
Bottom line - compression makes 10.9 use RAM more efficiently than previous OSX versions. It also makes the “ram used” indicator less meaningful, and mans you should monitor “compression” .
That said, RAM has always been one of the most cost effective upgrades possible. People spend too much on new machines and too little on more RAM.
Hope this helps,
Grant -
Slow Macbook Pro, EtreCheck results
Hello,
like many others I also have the problem that pages in Safari are extremely slow loading. It's so slow that it is not usable anymore.
Also, it seems like Safari often throws me out of the Network and then has problems to log back, and asks me again for the network password and then doesn't recognize the password. All other devices on our network don't have that problem, so it seems to be specific to my laptop. Usually I can get the laptop to log back in to the network by turning wifi off for a second and then back on. But, of course, that's highly annoying.
The 2nd problem seems to be unrelated to the first, as the first one (the slow loading) has been going on forever. The 2nd problem only started after we changed the comcast router.
Please help me with my etreCheck results to figure this out! Any help is greatly appreciated.
Problem description:

Why did Mavericks slow down my MBP?
Did some digging in Discussions and found that a slow-down problem is common after installing Mavericks.
EtreCheck was recommended as a diagnostic first step. I have a report but I am not confident to act on any items without advice. Here it is - help appreciated.

Anything in Startup Items could be a problem. Apple declared Startup Items to be obsolete in 2006 so this is software that hasn't been updated since before then or they are following the doing the don't-update-until-it-breaks plan.
I suggest uninstalling these problems to see if that fixes things. Always use the vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. Never try to do it manually. That could only make things worse. You may need to download a new installer that may come with an uninstaller. Unfortunately, installers, and especially uninstallers, are a weak point of OS X compared to Windows.

Remove these too. iStat seems to have an invalid plist file. KeyAccess has a support link that may eventually lead you to an uninstaller.

Notice a trend? This is why I say to use vendor-provided uninstallers.

Some of the same software is here. At least with Login Items, you can remove items very easily and put them back later if they prove innocent. -
Does Maverick slow down processor speed on iMac 2007?
Ever since the update on Maverick 9.1 I been experiencing very slow reponse in all of my applications, especially Safari. I tried memory clean, disk doctor, and hard drive test which show nothing really. Activity monitor shows I got about 1 GB of ram that is available when running Safari. I tried other browers with the same rainbow circle that safari has. Is it a virus? Or is my computer so old that apple is trying to force me to upgrade? (BTW, I've got 3 GB of ram and 54 GB of hard drive space avalible- and I ordered more ram to make a total of 4 GB of ram).
RAM could be one of the issues with your slower Mac performance.
You are starting to get a little low on hard drive space. 54 GBs is still alright, just need to keep an eye on this when your drives gets to 20 GBs or lower.
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X.
If you have any commercially advertised antivirus software installed, completely uninstall this per the instructions on the developer's website.
Do you run any "crapware" like Mackeeper or any other type of so called hard drive "cleaning" or " tune up" style apps? These are a form of malware/"crapware".
Delete anything like this per the instructions on the developer's website. -

I am a novice!! ThanksHello,
FIrst,
You have some very undesirable " garbageware" on your system.
Zeobit MacKeeper and TuneUpMyMac. Get rid of them per these links!!!
http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/09/21/how-to-uninstall-mackeeper-malware/

Second,
Remove/delete all WD drive software. It is not needed on OS X and can actually harm your hard drives if used with OS X's own drive utilities.
Remove the WD drive app fron your login/startup items.
Add or remove automatic items
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Users & Groups.
Select your user account, then click Login Items.
Do one of the following:
Click Add below the list on the right, select an app, document, folder, or disk, then click Add.If you don’t want an item’s windows to be visible after login, select Hide. (Hide does not apply to servers, which always appear in the Finder after login.)
Select the name of the item you want to prevent from opening automatically, then click Delete below the list on the right.
Third,
Your Mac is starved for RAM. 2 GBs of RAM is too smal amount of RAM to run OS X Mavericks.
Your year and model Mac can take a total of 6 GBs of RAM.
I seriously and STRONGLY advise you purchase and install the full 6 GBs of RAM.
RAM is user installable and relatively easy for a newbie or novice Mac user to install.

Correct and reliable Mac RAM can be purchased from online Mac RAM sources Crucial memory or OWC (macsales.com).
OWC (macsales.com) is the only online Mac RAM seller with the 6 GB RAM kit.

Computer Slowing Down (includes EtreCheck)
Hey there!
Yeah, basic question I know. XD But my computer has been getting noticeably slower, especially with Premiere Pro, Photoshop editing and very basic Finder tasks. So, I decided to do a pass with EtreCheck to see if there were any other problems.
And there appears to be quite a few failures... 8C
Thoughts?? Especially on the "Problem System Launch Agents" and "Daemons??"
Thank you!!! 8D 8D 8D
(ALSO... I have been editing together a 3 hour, 4 camera concert, all in 1080p on a maxed out iMac computer, with no problem. I wanted to do some extra editing work on the side with my laptop, but it can't even LOAD the file... XD Granted; it's a 3 hour concert with 4 cameras in HD. Is this kind of work COMPLETELY out of the league with a computer with these specs to begin with? Is it time to upgrade to a maxed out desktop if I want to continue getting work like this?)
EtreCheck version: 2.1.2 (105)

Dec 9, 2014, 04:30:14 PM WindowServer_2014-12-09-163014_MacBook-Pro.cpu_resource.diag [Details]1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

Mavericks slowed down my MacBook Pro 13 inch (Mid 2010)
I did a clean install of 10.6.3 (which came with my MacBook Pro). Then upgraded to 10.6.8 to be able to download Mavericks from the App store. Installed Mavericks and everything (boot-up, application lauch, opening folders, etc.) has been dragging since then. Can someone explain a better way to do the installation or changes to make to improve the speed?
Thank you,
MacBook Pro 13 inch (Mid 2010)I have the same problem. I have 4gb of RAM; I was going to upgarde to 8, but seeing that you have 8, this probably won't help.
I feel like it's progressivly getting slower as well.
I was going to get a solid state drive and more RAM to fix the issue.
Looking at my activity monitor I show this:
As it sits right now, I have just Chrome open, facebook tab, email tab and this thread tab open and it's using 3.99 of my memory. Kernal_task is using the most memory.
I dont want to buy a new computer but maybe it's just too old?
Any info would be great. I'm not terribly technical and I love my mac, makes me sad to think of getting rid of it! Altho excited for a new one -
Mavericks slowing down, not enough app memory
Have run out of application memory twice in two days. Calendar wasn't open.
Used EtreCheck as recommended. Here is the report.
Thanks for any help! Let me know what other info is neccessary!

External drive slows down system
I purchased this 27 inch iMac last month. Its loaded. 3 TB HD, 32 GB Ram, 4 TB External Lacie Thunderbolt Drive.
The system slows to a crawl, with beach balls, slowness (I mean REALLY SLOW). I also have errors transferring files from the Lacie to the internal HD.
I got frustrated beecause I thought my files were corrupt (my Adobe lightroom catalog files were reporting as being corrupt). After a day or two of monkeying around, I zeroed in on the Lacie HD as the source of my problems. I reformatted, rebuilt the raid array, and restored from a Drobo....and voila! It worked.
For about an hour. Then, slowness returns. I ran the extended hardware check.....nothing wrong.
I called Lacie tech support. The guy asked me to unplug the drive and the power to it. Plugged everything back in, and voila again! It flew.
30 minutes later, more slowness. I called lacie, and the tech support person suggested I might have a bad thunderbolt cable and offered to send me another one (which will presumably be on the way tomorrow).
Has anyone had this kind of a problem? Do you think the cable might fix the problem? Or do you think the drive is defective?
Thanks
Kenny in NJIts not the drive. I have two external drives connected and mine are from Seagate. The problem most likely occurs between the iOS and the USB/Thunderbolt/Firewire connections.
Any response from Apple? -
PyLoad Daemon issue - unable to restart and slow down system reboot
Hi all,
I have installed pyLoad from aur
=> https://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=34435 (by the way, a great download manager - Highly recommended)
I follow the wiki to be able to launch it as a daemon while the system boot up, create so when switching users it still download (and I can also access it via android on my phone.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PyLoad#Daemon
The issue is when executing "/etc/rc.d/pyLoadCore restart/stop" it doesn't respond. And also when I power off or reboot the system it hangs for 10/15 seconds than return to the login screen for another 10/15 seconds then reboot/power off.
I know it's pyLoad daemon creating the issue, I have tested without. Also when pyLoadCore is started via the .desktop the system doesn't hangs at reboot/power off.
Any suggestion why it behave like that?
Many thanks for your time,
Looking forward for your replies,
Regards,Hi again,
Is there a way to amend the script for the daemon not to start with the root ("su") rights?
I have obviously tried to remove the "su" from the script but that failed,
Looking forward for your reply, -
Does locked documents in sm12 can cause system to slow down in reading
hi experts,
When I check locked entries in sm12, i found some locked entries which are already past 8 hours and sometimes more. Do those entries contribute to the system's slow performance? When should I delete those entries? I hesitate to delete locked entries and kick users out of the system because they maybe editting some documents and have'nt saved them yet.
Thank you in advance for your response.Hello,
System Lock mechanism doesn't slow down system. But sometime it's required to delete the entries of hanged uses login processes, which can be done through SM04/AL08 as described by GURUS.
But sometime though you try to delete from these T-Code the process doesn't get delted, then you can proceed for the below mnetioned two steps:
1. SM50 and delete the corresponding process through PROCESS > CANCEL WITHOUT CORE
PROCESS > RESTART AFTER ERROR -> NO
2. If you have access to OS level, then the same can be deleted by following command:
kill -9 <process no.>
In case any issue, please feel free to revert.
Reagrds,
Nilutpal
