Mavericks start up

when I start up my imac, I get a grey screen with white lettering (what looks like internal values) and then iMac immediately restarts.  Chimes both times.
Not sure what might be going on.  The reboot works-with the exception of the error messages.
The error report is:

First you might want to uninstall these per the developers instructions
org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv          4.1.8
com.Logitech.Unifying.HID Driver          1.2.0
com.Logitech.Control Center.HID Driver          3.6.0
com.seagate.driver.SeagateGoFlexBlockSizeAdjuster          5.2.2
Then I see you have third party ram. You might want to remove it and see if the panics stop.

Why won't OS X Mavericks start downloading when I click the download button? It thinks and acts like it starts downloading with the thinking circle moving then stops and goes away. I have tried going to the purchases in the app store and restarting it there and that is not working either.

Repair permissions, restart your computer & try again.

  • Mavericks started crashing on MBP 15 two days ago

Hi! I have a problem with my MacBookPro. It is from around july 2007 and already had its motherboard swapped for the black screen problem a couple of years ago, but it worked fine until this week. Two days ago it started freezing after a couple of minutes every time I login, something between 2 and 12 minutes, more or less. Needless to say that it is completely useless this way. Recovery mode works, I could verify/Repair the Mac partition, but not much else. I also got a Windows 7 Home installed on the machine, and that one works without problems, so I guess it must have been some bug introduced with one or other software actualization lately. I can't really do anything with the machine on OS X anymore, recently it froze two times while I tried to reset the password for my time capsule so I could access the time machine backup from the recovery mode. It also froze while installing the latest security update from safe mode today. 'Froze' means mouse is dead, keyboard is dead, progress bar stops, no reaction apart from forced power down.
Now, as I am writing this from this same machine under Windows, I wonder what is the best way to get OS X up and running again. Is there a way to download an installation image of the OS for, say, Version 10.9.4 with Windows, burn it to disc and restart from there? I don't really see any download option there. Also - would it be worth trying Yosemite instead of a slightly older Mavericks version?

    Hi!
Here is the report. I have had two more crashes while operating firefox and Preview with Intego software stopped. This last times the machine did not restart, but just kept displaying the frozen display, even when closing the lid, with no reaction from the mouse or the keyboard apart from forced power down working - with nothing in the log files with a timestamp matching or nearing the clock display.

  • When maverick starts to download, it gets stuck, it says wait and nothing happens. What can I do?

When I try to download mavericks, it doesn't work. The app appears to be starting to download, but then it says wait and nothing happens. What can I do?

Restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. How you do this is when you hear the startup tone hold down the Shift Key until you see the progress bar appear. Let it fully boot, then open System Preferences - Startup Disk and ensure your internal HD is selected and then click Restart to test. If you still don't have luck you should run Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode, you may need to run the test 2-3 times to report any errors. To run AHT you will need teh ORIGINAL Install Discs that shipped with the computer. Instructions for AHT are in:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
    Have you been backiing up?

  • Maverick starting to run slow

    I've got a iMac with 8gb installed, a core 3.1GHz i7 processor.
There are 2 areas where the system is running ridiculously slow, when I start any app. The computer doesn't respond at all for 30 seconds+.
I've just timed the startup of Lexar's Image Rescue 4 program. From clicking it's icon in the dock it took 50 seconds before the icon started bouncing, 56 seconds for the app's flash window to appear and 1 minute for the main window to appear.
The other speed issue I have is open and save dialogs. Click Documents, for example, the gear wheel spins for nearly a minute before the folder's contents is displayed.
Once the programs have started they run fine, no problem. Once Documents contents have been displayed everything runs smoothly (unless you click to a lower level folder in which case that will be slow).
I can't guarantee it, but I think this all started with the last system upgrade, to 10.9.1 which I installed on 17 December.
    Anyone else getting this problem?
    Jack

If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. This procedure is a diagnostic  test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem. The backup is necessary on principle, not because of anything suggested in this comment. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed, as well as some other aspects of the configuration that may be pertinent.
Don’t be alarmed by the seeming complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out. Here's a brief summary: You copy a line of text from this web page into a window in another application. You wait about a minute. Then you paste some other text, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is copy; paste; paste again. That's all there is to it. Details follow.
You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken while booted in “normal” mode. If the system is now running in safe mode and is bootable in normal mode, reboot as usual. If it only boots in safe mode, proceed anyway.
Below are instructions to enter a UNIX shell command. It does nothing but produce human-readable output. However, you need to think carefully before running any program at the behest of a stranger on a public message board. If you question the safety of the procedure suggested here — which you should — search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them.
The command will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but it's really a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it.
If you have more than one user, and the affected user is not an administrator, then please run the command twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The administrator is the user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time. If you can't log in as an administrator, just run the command as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    clear; PB=/usr/libexec/PlistBuddy; PR () { [[ "$o" ]] && o=$(sed 's/^/   /' <<< "$o") && printf '\n%s:\n\n%s\n' "$1" "$o"; }; PC () { o=$(grep [^[:blank:]] "$2"); PR "$1"; }; PF () { o=$($PB -c Print "$2" | awk -F'= ' \/$3'/{print $2}'); PR "$1"; }; PN () { [[ $o -eq 0 ]] || printf "\n%s: %s\n" "$1" $o; }; a=$(id | grep -w '80(admin)'); [[ "$a" ]] && sudo true && r=1 || r=; { [[ "$a" ]] || echo $'No admin access\n'; [[ "$a" && !     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Then click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting. The line you pasted will disappear.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter your password, the command will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important.
The command may take up to a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear.
You can then quit Terminal. The output of the command will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. All you have to do is paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V again.
    Please note:
☞ This procedure is all copy-and-paste — type only your login password when prompted. When typing it, you won't see what you're typing. Make sure caps lock is off.
☞ Remember to post the output. It's already in the Clipboard when you see "[Process completed]" in the Terminal window.
☞ If any personal information, such as your name or email address, appears in the output, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.

  • After restart maverick starts in Disk utility and wants to re-install?

For many days, my computer wanted to restart, because off 10.9.3 update. Havent had the time to re-start yet, but today i was forced to because off other problems and my macbook hanging.
After restart, it did not start as normally, but starts in "choose language screen" and moves to disk utility screen after that. Here I can choose to re-install everything or to restore from time machine. I do have a week old backup, but i would rather have my system back up runni g without that.
I have tried pram and smc reset. I tried disk utility repair too. Trying to repair my hard disk (first level called 750.16gb wdc wd750...) i got an error
"Live file system repair is not supported"
Trying to repair second level (under this 750.16 and called disk0s2) i got an error saying:
"Disk utility cant repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
Is there something wrong with the update, my hard disk or something else?
If the last change is to restore from time machine, i could try that. But my frien just had a similar problem after changing hard disk, and that restore was not going by the book. (We could onlu restore one user).

If you were to get a copy of one of the utilities that I mentioened earlier, they come with a bootable DVD if your Mac is supported to boot from their DVD.  If not, they would need to be installed on a bootable drive from a working Mac and then you would boot your Mac from that external drive.
If you just want to install OS X from a backup, you will have to format your hard drive before you can reinstall anything to it.

  • Mavericks start uo problem

Downloaded OS X Mavericks but upon opening computer all I get is a grey screen with an icon of a folder with a question mark on it. Help

    Hello marwandese,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with your MacBook Air display.
I found an article with steps to troubleshoot issues with displays.  This article is for internal and external displays, so you can skip any steps referring to an external display.  I recommend reviewing the full article, but this step specifically stands out to me for the issue you described:
    Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
You can find the full article here:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1573
If the issue persists after following the steps in that article, I recommend following the steps in the following article:
OS X: When your computer spontaneously restarts or displays "Your computer restarted because of a problem."
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4636
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Sheila M.

  • Why does this mavericks start on its own? even after downloading GFX card status it keeps on restarting. Fix it Apple. I'm going Banana.

The laptop says kernel error, but after downloading GFX card status the laptop keeps on getting restarted. Oh why did i buy a macbook?

Either your Mac is broken, or you have something installed which isn't compatible. Hard to tell without the kernel panic log.

  • Illustrator crashing solution unclear (CC 2014, Mac OSX Mavericks, start-up crash, plug-ins confusion)

Illustrator CC 2014 crashing on launch. Troubleshooting solution suggests moving third-party plug-ins, but how do I distinguish third-party plug-ins from those that should stay in situ, AND in any case, how do I actually move them, as any attempt to move anything out of the plug-ins folder simply creates a shortcut?

    MoonVole,
You may look at the list of things to try below.
And you may try Creative Cloud support (all Creative Cloud customer service issues):
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/service-ccm.html
Or if relevant this specialized forum (where you may be able find the answer from previous threads),
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/download_install_setup
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • How long does it usually take to upgrade macair 13 to OS X Mavericks? You see, I've started my upgrade at around 11pm last night, it's now 10:20am but it seems not done yet. Thanks

    Hi there,
    Peace & good day!
May I seek help re: my concern - you see, I want to upgrade my Macair 13 to OS X Mavericks. Following the instruction found on Apple website, I installed OSX Mavericks starting at around 11pm last night, it's 10:25am now, yet it is not yet finished. My question then is how long does it take really to do the upgrading? Or is there anything else that I missed out? One thing sure, my macair13 is compatible with OSX Mavericks.
    Would appreciate your advise.
    Thanks & God Bless,
    Nina

depends on your ISP connection speeds, on a 10mbs connection at around 6gig download, it takes around 40 mins to 1hr and half.

  • Mavericks re-indexes my external hard drive when I save a single file to it.

    Ok here is my problem.
I have an external hard drive that has over 500 gigs worth of files on it. This hard drive was already indexed when I had OSX Mountain Lion. When I upgraded to Mavericks and then went to find files on my external hard drive I could not even use the finder. Come to find out Mavericks was re-indexing the entire 500 plus gigs of data. That took 8 hours. That was last Tuesday.
Yesterday I went to work on some files and I plugged in the external hard drive and was able to search the hard drive and find what I needed. However when I started saving files the previous 8 hour indexing from last week was like it never happened and Mavericks started the re-indexing all over again.
This never happened with Mountain Lion or my previous OSX Snow Leopard. This hard drive was formatted to work on both Mac and PC under Fat32 file formatting. I had no problems in the past under previous OSX from apple as explained previously.
This not only made finding other files on the hard drive impossible but it took another 8 hours to re-index and this is unacceptable.
This is a major bug/break in the OS and I need to find a fix quick because I work from home and the external hard drive I am using is not mine it belongs to my employer.
Any help or a way to contact apple and report this issue would be grateful. I'm on a late 2009 iMac so I'm past warranty and I can't pay for their fee to even get online or a phone call help.
One other thing to note this is a WD external hard drive.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

Or you can use your Apple ID to register with this site and go the Apple BugReporter. Supposedly you will get an answer if you submit feedback.

  • App store app will no longer open after installing Mavericks. How do I update in future??

Many of the apps that came with my MacBook Pro when I bought it direct from Apple last year now crash the moment the icon appears in the Dock since I installed Mavericks. These include Calendar, Pages, Contacts, Preview (all of these were updated after I installed Mavericks) and, most worrying, The App Store app. If and when Apple produces updates to sort out the bugs in the new system, how can I get them if I cannot open the App Store? Has anyone else found answers to these problems? I can get around some of these problems eg by installing Adobe Reader instead of Preview but I don't want to be stuck with a system I cannot update. Hey pomorain!
It sounds like you have an issue with your installation of Mavericks. I would suggest that attempt to Safe Boot your computer first as a troubleshooting step to see if the issue can be resolved that way:
OS X Mavericks: Start up in safe mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14204
If you are still experiencing these issues, you may want to try reinstalling your installation of Mavericks:

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. Have a good one!

  • Why did my Apple logo turn blue at start up?

At start up, the Apple logo turned blue (originally gray).  The outline of the logo also became pixelated, containing the colors red, green, yellow, etc.
I also have this problem where whenever I am using an application (during the first hour after start up) they would deactivate during the first five seconds of use.  I would have to constantly click the application to reactivate it.  For example, as I am typing in Microsoft Word, the application would deactivate enabling me from typing, until I select the program to reactivate it.

    Hi tessira_c,
I would suggest starting to troubleshoot this issue by starting your MacBook Pro up in Safe Mode. See this article for the procedure -
OS X Mavericks: Start up in safe mode
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14204
Does the issue (blue Apple at startup) occur when starting this way? If so, use the steps in this article to continue isolating the issue -
Mac OS X: Gray screen appears during startup

  • My SD card appears then disappears on Mavericks OS?

I've recently upgraded to Mavericks (starting to regret my decision) and when I stick in my SD card from my camera into my Macbook, the icon will appear for a few seconds, turn translucent then disappear completely. I've read other discussion but haven't found one quite like this. I did try turning off time machine but that did not work. Any help is appreciated!

Your USB bus is "dropping" off. When it does, it unmounts or ejects the disk.
First thing to try is resetting the SMC: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
Then try resetting the PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/ph14222
