Mavericks started crashing on MBP 15 two days ago

Hi! I have a problem with my MacBookPro. It is from around july 2007 and already had its motherboard swapped for the black screen problem a couple of years ago, but it worked fine until this week. Two days ago it started freezing after a couple of minutes every time I login, something between 2 and 12 minutes, more or less. Needless to say that it is completely useless this way. Recovery mode works, I could verify/Repair the Mac partition, but not much else. I also got a Windows 7 Home installed on the machine, and that one works without problems, so I guess it must have been some bug introduced with one or other software actualization lately. I can't really do anything with the machine on OS X anymore, recently it froze two times while I tried to reset the password for my time capsule so I could access the time machine backup from the recovery mode. It also froze while installing the latest security update from safe mode today. 'Froze' means mouse is dead, keyboard is dead, progress bar stops, no reaction apart from forced power down.
Now, as I am writing this from this same machine under Windows, I wonder what is the best way to get OS X up and running again. Is there a way to download an installation image of the OS for, say, Version 10.9.4 with Windows, burn it to disc and restart from there? I don't really see any download option there. Also - would it be worth trying Yosemite instead of a slightly older Mavericks version?

Here is the report. I have had two more crashes while operating firefox and Preview with Intego software stopped. This last times the machine did not restart, but just kept displaying the frozen display, even when closing the lid, with no reaction from the mouse or the keyboard apart from forced power down working - with nothing in the log files with a timestamp matching or nearing the clock display.

The font on some of my programs, even here as I type is faint or grey. This just started since firefox updated two days ago. what can I do to fix this problem?

Might be a corrupted database ...
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

When we returned from a weekend trip, both emails were working. The obvious answer [to me anyway] is that the problem was with Roadrunner, not our minimac. The chances of finding out what the problem was with Roadrunner are slim and none.

The same thing happened to me... Since two days the ******* thing keeps freezing after a while. Then I try to reboot and the screen goes white and it doesn't boot. If I wait like half an hour it boots again.
I thought it was a hardware problem, but the Apple Hardware Test founds nothing at all. I think it has to do with the software update I performed 2 days ago.

I can't clear my history anymore. Just started doing this two days ago. Even setting auto history clearing didn't help. Will I have to remove/reinstall?

I can no longer clear my history. I have done this every day for years, and since two days ago The clear history box wont open when I try to clear my history. I tried setting the auto clear option, but that also did not work.
Is there anything else I can try within firefox or my computer, or will I need to remove firefox and then reinstall it?

Since installing the latest update of Photoshop CC two days ago, Auto Blend for focus stacking is selecting all pixels from the bottom layer instead of selecting the ones in best focus from each layer. Has anyone else seen this problem?

I installed the latest update of Photoshop CC two days ago on my Macbook Pro, and now when I try to do focus stacking by opening multiple photos and doing Auto Align and Auto Blend, the blend selects the entire bottom layer instead of selecting the in-focus areas from each layer. I even tried again on a series of images where this worked a week ago and the problem occurs. I have Photoshop on a Windows 8 machine and did not apply this latest update and it works fine. Has anyone else encountered this?

And since installing this same update, my Photoshop is crashing just after starting.
Ashutosh.Nigam suggested me in this forum to change the permissions to SLStore & SLCache Folder, but it did not work.
Ali from french Adobe support told me to delete my Settings files, but it was not enough.
A girl with no name from the same team told me to update my video card driver, but you know I run the latest Mac OS X version and everything is updated, mademoiselle.

- Troubleshoot account-specific fonts, but there wasn't any corrupted font
- Delete account-specific Adobe cache files but... guess what...
- Troubleshoot account-specific login items but... yes, that's it, I can see you understand me
- Reset the access settings on the user account's Library folder... oh god, that was fun, I used the Terminal and sudo commands
I did all of these things because when I tried to open PhCC in an other admin session, it worked, so that was an incompatibility between my session and PhCC. But, but, but, when I tried again to lauch the app in the second session, it worked fine but refused to quit. Ha ha ha.
So you can try to delete your Settings files. I wish it'll work for you. If not you can try the long list above... or hope a better answer from the support.
I didn't change anything but Photoshop on my session and they ensure that the bug is due to my session and not to their update. Strange affair.

Purchased 2TB TC two days ago

I purchased a 2TB TC two days ago. I currently own a vintage 2010 1TB TC. I upgraded my MBP 17" to 1TB hard and plan on backing it up to the 2010 1TB TC. However, when I connected the 2TB to my network it appears as DATA and the 1TB appears as Time Capsule. It appears this way when I open TM Preferences and select disk. In any event I cannot backup any of the 3 MBP that I want to back up to the two

i'm sure there are very few corner cases where this isn't true, but the new 'tower' AC will run circles around the verizon wifi
i disable wifi on the verzion box to reduce in home interference
so the 256air is the only computer you want to backup to the 1tb, right? yes, the first back wirelessly is fine will just take longer, start it when you know you don't need to use the laptop or before you go to sleep
to connect the 1tb back to the network, factory reset it as well (don't worry, backups are not affected, only network settings).
when you open airport utility, you'll should see it in the top left under 'other wifi devices' so go ahead and connect it to your network. i believe the simple setup will force you to 'extend' the network, which is fine, because once it is connected, go to airport utility, click on the 1tb and under the wireless tab, set 'network mode' to off - note, during setup it might give you an option to setup the 1tb as a wireless bridge, if so just choose that and then you won't need to do the last setup about turning network mode to off.
