No. This question comes up every time new hardware is release, the version of OS X that originally shipped on the machine is the earliest version of OS X that can be installed. The reason being is the hardware is optimized for the version of OS X. There are rare exceptions to this rule however the iMac Retina would not be one of those exceptions.

  • 'Enabled support for Retina display'

I'm starting to see that some of the Apps I have installed are showing updates for 'enabled support for Retina display'. So how do Apps look on the new iPad before they get this support? Just the same as on iPad 2?!

They will look noticeably clearer on the new iPad. This iPad has a retna display, so it has 3.1million pixels. There are 250 pixles per inch on the new iPad. And only 132 On iPad 2. There are also prosessor upgrades to it as well so you will notice it goes faster. They upgraded the A5 chip to the A5X chip. You will notice that it has very sharp pictures, is is because they upgraded the rear facing camera to a 5 megapixle iSight camera. So to sum up, no apps will not look the same on iPad 2 vs. the new iPad.
So why are the Apps getting specific updates to take advantage of the retina display if they look clearer on the new iPad? Am I missing something here?
The new processor is also good news. I believe it has 1GB of RAM as well, up from the iPad 2. But will the extra power go largely towards powering the new retina display? Presumably having twice the resolution must need a bit more oomph to drive it?

  • Pages support for retina display

Any idea when Pages will be updated to support the retinal display?  It looks terrible and is almost unusable compared to Pages on a regular display.

    Hi
I fully understand about the price.  This notebook is to last me the next three years so I fully optioned it up to the max.  I know bit of an overkill for someone who only uses pages and writes fiction so I don't even use any pictures or strange layouts...  I wanted something though that has a very clear display.  The only fonts I use are Andale Mono and Courier so I'm hoping they look pretty good until a Pages Retnia update hits.  I can always plug it into my Thunderbolt display till then anyway.  I still have about about a month to wait before my MBPr even ships so hopefully all the issues will be resolved by then.
    Regards
    Chris

  • Mavericks support for ARD - when will this occur?

WHen being launched, ARD says it is incompatible with Mavericks - will this be fixed, and when?

None of us here know or can say when ARD will be updated for support for Mavericks. I would expect that Apple will have an update available at or shortly after the time Mavericks is released if not before, but we'll have to wait for Apple to make further announcements.
    Regards.

  • Ssd NCQ support for new iMac

Will there ever be firmware with NCQ support for 256 ssd shipped with new iMacs? My ssd ("TS" marked, most likely Toshiba) does not have one, and that's a bit outdated don't you think.

Although with a separate SSD and HDD you have to perform the work yourself you do gain some flexibility in your set up. However, should the urge arise there are numerous tutorial around that explain how to turn the SSD and HDD into a Fusion Drive using the same mechanism that Apple uses.
And the converse is also possible and easy: you can turn the fusion drive back into two separate drives.
If possible, I think you should put up the extra $250 for the Fusion Drive - especially considering this is not an option later on. With such a new machine, the internal hard drive will be the slowest part.
Still, even with a Fusion Drive, an external is strongly recommended. You should install FCP X in your regular system drive (fusion or not), and have your projects and events in an external.
Your proposed solution is adequate, depending only on available space. You only need your working projects and events to fit in the ssd. As long as you move them elsewhere when finished, to make room for the new ones, you'll be more than fine even with a smallish usb3 ssd.

  • Is there a MESA adapter for retina iMac?

I would like to remove my stand from my Retina iMac and use a MESA adapter. Is this possible?

I would suggest that you first check w/AppleCare to make sure changing the stand would not void your warranty.

  • Mavericks support for Nikon AW1 NEF

Any timescale for when Mavericks can support Nikon AW1 NEF files? So far no preview is available in Mavericks for the NEFs, I have to use Adobe bridge to view them
    Kind regards,

Yes, this is really interesting since all the Nikon 1:s of this generation are exactly the same inside. What is really the problem? Is Nikon the probelm?
I switched to Lightroom now, so I can use the raw format from my AW1, but my wife still uses iPhoto so she is very frustrated. I don't see why the compatibility issue shouldn't be solved the same day a camera hits the stores.
If there isn't a problem in the communication between Canon/Nikon etc. and Apple.
Anyway, the biggest looser is Apple and their iPhoto/Aperture apps and that's too bad.

  • Boot menu - no support for Retina

So I just noticed, that Apple logo and boot menu (where you can choose your startup disk) are not in retina resolution. I think, they were before update.

Is anoyone else having same issues?

And does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Finding a mobile support for my imac 27''

I want to mount my imac on a mobile desktop
    (like this : http://www.ergotron.com/Products/tabid/65/PRDID/321/language/fr-FR/Default.aspx)
    - I want it to be easily adjustable in height
    - I want the inclinaison of the screen to be adjustable
    - I want it to be stable
    - I want it to be wifi friendly
    - I want it to be light (easy room switching)
The big problem with the ergotron is that the imac 27'' is too heavy...
Do you know any models that would be good for that?
Comments welcomed (like : "you fool! Vibrations will kill your imac!")

More than anything, you need something with reduced shipping costs, so a local vendor may work to your advantage. Going to a website will give you lots of options, but the shipping costs for desks can be prohibitive. Something like an Office Depot or OfficeMax or Staples might be useful. Or Amazon; they have a huge selection of desks at reduced prices. http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Desks-Hutches/b?ie=UTF8&node=1069106

  • Is Mavericks.app for iMac same as that for Macbook Air?

I downloaded Mavericks.app for my iMac and then used the same installer (mavericks.app) to upgrade my Macbook Air 2013. The upgrade was smooth; but the battery life isn't very great.
Can someone confirm that there's Mavericks upgrade for iMac is the same as that for Macbook Air?

Thanks! Haven't had any problems with the software; except that I'm not happy with the battery life my MBA 2013, 13" offers after the upgrade. Looks like time to reset PRAM and SMC.
