Mavericks update on brand new MacMini, HDMI went blurry!

I just bought a Mac Mini.  I wanted to upgrade it.  I plugged it into my Samsung HDMI/DVI/VGA 23" monitor.
On Mountain Lion, picture was awesome.  After the 9 hour upgrade process yesterday, the picture went crappy.
I'd like someone to explain to me how my brand new MacMini worked flawlessly before the upgrade to Mavericks?
I now have to drag the underscan slider half way across, and the text is blurry! It's like I stepped back in time 10 years.  How is that possible?  Can someone explain why?

  • Finder is really slow ( 15 sec.) after mavericks update on brand new iMac 27" WITH fusion drive...

When looking up files it's fine, but when trying to save or open anything through ANY program, i.e. Adobe CS6 programs, Microsoft Word, but also Apple software, finder is really slow (15 sec. or more of the same spinning beach ball) after the OSX Mavericks update on my brand new iMac 27" WITH fusion drive... This ***** really bad because it totally disturbs the smooth workflow I bought the iMac for in the first place...
    Any suggestions?
Already tried 'clearing the plist file' through terminal; didn't work... Rebooting (obviously), didn't work.
Will there be a fix soon?
It's costing me way to much time waiting for the finder to show it's content when working.
Any official word from Apple on this?

I had a similar problem.  Tried repairing disk permissions, tried cleaning up with onyx and applejack with no luck.  Finally what did work was simply starting up in safe mode (hold shift key down after restart) and it sorted itself out
    Hope this works for you

  • Is it possible ro clean install Mountain Lion over Mavericks on a brand new mac mini

Is it possible to "clean Install" mountain lion over mavericks on a brand new mac mini

Actually evrything I can find states that the last mini to run SL was 2010.
It appears that the 2012 mini's shipped with Mountain Lion and later Mavericks. Link
Also why would the OP need a bootable SL installation media when they want to install ML?

  • Is this brand new MacMini new?

I went the the Apple Store 2 days ago and purchase a MacMini (i7 2.3) and when I got home and booted it up, I realised that it has 10.8.3 and not 10.9 (Maveriks)
So it's safe to think that this mini has been on the warehouse shelves for about 10 months (10.8.3 release in march 2013)...
So, I do the Software Update, log in with my Apple ID, start the Mavericks download (eventhough it says "downloaded" but it's greyed out).
After a few minutes in the download, I get an error message saying that there was an "Error while downloading" no more details...
I then got back in Software Update / App Store and I now have this notification...
    I am not [email protected]..
Anyone knows why I get this message in a "Brand New" computer?
    Thanks
    Olivier

Actually, yes. The latest model was introduced in Oct. 2012 and shipped with OS X 10.8.1.
So, it could very easily be brand new. They're not going to open up new Macs, already in the box, and install whatever is the latest and the greatest.

  • Update - Help - Brand New ipod - won't update with software

IPod will not update with cd-rom it came with - this is the first - initial - brand new install of ipod

used cd-rom that came with ipod - followed instructions to the tee - stated it can not update ipod - itunes does not see ipod - went to web site and downloaded 47mb file from june 05
still will not update - states ipod not supported by this software - the ipod is BRAND NEW - 30gb color photo ipod??
    please help me

Hi I had the same problem with my last ipod. i tried all of the steps on the apple support site but none of them worked. I decided to send my ipod in for a repair. Anyway when a week later my ipod came back it was fixed but when i loaded up the computer the disk locked again. I followed through the instructions which said to download the newest software. So i downloaded the new software again and this still didnt work. The last thing i tried to do was to use an old version of an updater so i used (ipod updater 2004-11-15) this ran through the restore process and after completing this, the menu on the ipod loaded up. I then connected to itunes and it allowed it to communicate and transfer the songs
It worked for me i hope it works for you.
    Best of luck

  • I just updated my brand new iMac and now I get a white screen

I just updated my new iMac and all I get is a white screen.  It went from installing to the white screen.  I can do nothing but shut it down by pressing the on/off button.  When turned back on I get the white screen again.  What happened?  What can I do about it?

If the system is less than 14 days old, you said it was "Brand New", take it back and get a refund and then buy another. Apple has a 14 day No questions asked return policy for full refund. Take advantage of and get a system that works correctly. The one you have certainly isn't.

  • Itunes asks to update my brand new ipod touch.. I do and now it wont work at all!!!

just got my brand new ipod touch ... working good then itunes wants to update so I do now my ipod doesnt work at all! all I get is the apple and a line on face and wont even turn off!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Is Mavericks Working On Brand New Macs?

I've read a great deal of discussion of problems some users are having with Mavericks.   I'm wondering if these problems are limited to those upgrading an older version of OSX, or if those purchasing new Macs are experiencing the same issues.
I had problems with Mavericks too, but I'm on a five year old machine with only 2gigs of RAM, so that may be the explanation.   This isn't a problem for me, but if I experienced the same problems on a brand new machine it would be.
Is anybody having Mavericks problems on a new machine?
    Thanks.

Hi again R C-R, thanks for the followup.
Have you noticed that no one in this thread except me has suggested that the problems many users are experiencing with Mavericks might be the fault of those who wrote, released and labeled the software as ready for general public users?  This is the Apple community culture I'm pointing to.
It's my thesis that this "Apple can do no wrong" culture is a large part of the reason why when a typical general public Mac user installs a new OS she really has no way of knowing whether the new OS will enhance her computing life, or turn it in to a nightmare.
I'm not on the warpath against Apple.  I am however attempting to address this problem at it's source which is  Apple, and you and me, regular Mac users, and our relationship with Apple and it's quality control procedures.  If we're willing to rationalize mediocrity again and again for years, mediocrity is what we'll all get.   That's not good for us, or for Apple either.
Please note that you have largely ignored my suggested solution, probably because to address it would require an admission that it is Apple, and not it's users or third party developers, who is the core problem here.
Eventually, perhaps in version 9.8, most of the problems with Mavericks will be ironed out, just as has been the case in most previous versions of OSX.
What's so wrong about labeling a new OS as beta until that level of maturity arrives?  It can still be released, but honestly labeling it as beta would alert all Mac users to the fact that the new OS is probably going to cause a lot of problems for a lot of people.
The solution can be as simple as Apple publicly advising inexperienced users to not upgrade to Mavericks until a later version such as 9.8.  More experienced users can be invited to test Mavericks on test drives, and file bug reports as necessary.
See? Such honesty and good communication costs Apple nothing.  Such honesty and good communication does not prevent anyone from trying Mavericks if they wish to.  All the problems you listed are easily overcome, if there's a will to overcome them.  The problem is, there is no will.
The problem is that a zillion inexperienced Mac users all over the world have been upgrading to Mavericks upon Apple's advice, having a horrible time, and losing their faith in Apple bit by bit as a result.
PS:  It might be helpful for you to know that when I came to the forum I posted a question hoping someone could educate me as to why Apple releases software the way it does.  I'm a programmer myself with 20 years of experience working online, but I don't know everything, so maybe there are factors involved that could be explained to all of us, so we'd understand why it's necessary for so many Mac users to suffer.  My posts was VERY polite,  a sincere request for education, and not a complaint.
That post was deleted in less than 2 minutes.
Wouldn't it be smarter for Apple to address these questions?
Wouldn't it be smarter for them to explain why beta software can't just be labeled beta software?
    Thanks again!

  • Error code 1013 after updating a brand new iPad 3G 16GB

    Hi all,
I've got my new iPad today and over excited I've attached it to iTunes (v 10.1). It asked me to upgrade to the new OS and I did. After that it gave an error and told me that I had to recover. Now i'm trying to recover it all night and I still get the error message:
The iPad couldn't be recovered. There has been an unknown error (1013).
Has anybody seen this error before? And if so, what's the solution. It's a brand new iPad and I haven't got a clue what's wrong.
    Kind Regards,
    Rob

    Hi Graham,
Yes that should explain it. I've found that article earlier today. The following doesn't solve it off course:
+Error 23, 28, 29, 1002, 1011, 1012, 1013, 1014, 1611: These errors may indicate a hardware issue with your device. Follow the steps in this article and also attempt to restore while connected with a known-good 30-pin Dock Connector cable, computer, and network to isolate this issue to the device. If the MAC address is missing or the IMEI is the default value (00 499901 064000 0), this can also confirm a hardware issue.+
I have tried connecting on a different USB port, trying a different Windows laptop. I even went to my parents house to attach it to their Mac. Not solved yet. I'm a bit desperate. I've called the Apple Custumer Desk, but they couldn't help me either. They want me to sent my iPad to them and I will get it back in two weeks. But I'm not believing that it is a problem with the hardware...
    any ideas?

  • HT1766 Got a brand new iphone 4s, went to bed with it fully chearged, woke up and the phone is off, can't turn it on!!! Help

I got a brand new Iphone 4s, fully charged as I went to bed. Woke up to see the time and I was expecting a call. The screen was blank, I can not turn it on. Nothing is happening. I 'm in freeze mode. How can I turn it on?

First be sure it's charged.  If you're not sure, plug your charger into a wall outlet for at least 15 minutes.  If it's still unresponsive, try to reset it: hold the on/off and home buttons until you see the Apple logo (ignore the off slider that appears first), then release.

  • HT1688 How do I update my brand new iphone to get it to turn on?

I bought the new 4g iphone s.  It says my SIM is invalid.  I have set up my itunes account.  How do I upgrade it so it will work, again?

Sorry.  I am pretty frustrated.  It is an iphone 4s.  I have been on the phone and online with Apple, as well as AT&T, who is my carrier.  I bought it brand new.  At&T says Apple didn't make it 5.0.1(??).  According to one of the websites, I need to upgrade to this.
Yes, the phone is on, just won't hook up with messages or calls, etc.

  • Windows update borking brand new server 3 times in a row...

    Hello all,
here's an interesting one for you all.
our company recently deployed a new server.
    server 2012 r2
    configuration
    setup
    all worked correctly
after all was done, updates were installed, afterwards the server would have a black screen of death over rdp and a slew of issues locally.
tried to remotely deploy http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/2897632 which was supposed to address this.
    no go...
since this already happened 3 times in a row i'm not quite sure how to go about this apart from disabling updates or excluding the problematic one. alas not sure which one it is.
what should the next course of action be? restore backups or re-image are fruitless since the same update will render it bad all over again.

That is not a scripted answer. It might be that you have a driver that is not compatible with recent Windows Updates which might cause that: That is why I have made the previous suggestion.
I never heard about black screen issue after the one fixed by KB2897632. My recommendation would be to check with your server support if they have known compatibility problems for Windows Server 2012 R2 running on their hardware.
