Mavericks upgrade wifi or wired

I am preparing to upgrade to Mavericks.  Should I connect my iMac directly to my cable modem or download using my wifi network?  How much diference will it make if any?

I have the same problem.
In my case I have a router with double band, on in 2.4GHz and another one in 5GHz, the 5GHz stops to work after upgrade to Mavericks, it's takes the IP but it says it has no internet connection.
Hoping someone find out what happens. I remove the entrance in the Preferred Network, restart the system with no luck.
2.4GHz SSID works correctly.

  • After Mavericks upgrade WiFi is erratic

After Mavericks upgrade WiFi network (Time Capsule) drops out frequently effecting my iPhones on iOS 7.04 - but my iPad is OK at all times.  The WiFi scanner takes 5/6 minutes to scan now, 30 seconds on mounton Lion.

I can suggest a few things to try but I am yet to see a solution.. I am not prepared to move to Mavericks until a couple of revisions fix the beta standard of some of these things. TM in particular seems to have badly suffered.
Are you using wireless? Especially double hop wireless with the TC as the extend.. don't!!
Use ethernet direct to the TC and turn off wireless.. see if that helps.
Otherwise I reckon until Apple get an update use a local usb disk plugged into the computer and don't try and use TM to network drive. Or if you still want to use the network drive use something like CCC which should be fine under Mavericks since it is a much more robust software. (without lots of bells and whistles.. but functional).

  • Maverick upgrade created wifi connectivity problem

Have a chat with apple, they deleted the newtwork name and delited the system preference folder.
Restar, and that shoud thake care of the problem.
No it did not, the problem persit.
Is there an offical ticket to solve this on the next Mavericks upgrade?

Tried both options but still no luck.
I have got a seperate DSL modem and a seperate wireless router connected to it.
When i upgraded from iOS5 to iOS6, same problem occured but resolved after following such steps.
But this time, its a real pain!
Let me know if i make changes in router like SSID or anything? In order to make it work, I assume that iPad should treat my router as a new device rather than an old one. Please suggest, thanks.

  • I keep getting an error after downloading the Mavericks upgrade

I have a 2011 mac mini running Lion 10.7.5  that I want to upgrade to mavericks. I have not had it very long so I hardly have anything on it. I have downloaded and installed all of the updates and verified that the hdd is ok and downloaded the free Mavericks upgrade then when it finishes the  5.30 gb file download I get an error and a cancel or retry option. Did this 3 times. I would appreciate any help or ideas that anyone can suggest. Thanks

HI, Thanks for asking but although i can use wifi, I made sure that I am using the wired ethernet for the upgrade. It will complete the download but just as soon as it completes the 5.30 gb file that is when I get the error. I think that I have everything covered on the check list as far as preparing it for Mavericks. I have no hardware hooked up to it only usb keyboard and bluetooth mouse. I even unhooked the super drive. After doing some checking I'm not so sure that the upgrade is worth it. I have a program I want to install that says requrements are Mac OSX 10.8 or higher that is why I wanted to do it but the majority or people seem to be having serious issues with Mavericks. I'm starting to think it may not be worth the trouble. Thanks for your reply

  • Massive Battery Drain After Mavericks Upgrade on 11" 2013 MacBook Air?

I got my Air about month before Mavericks came out and the battery life was amazing on it. I was easily getting 14-10 hours of life using Chrome and Air Mail App, along with Power Point and MS Word. After the upgrade to Mavericks, it was slow but I started to notice that my battery life during classes was draining so much faster than before and I had not added anything 3rd party software, just the upgrade. I am now down to about 3.5 - 4.5 hours of battery life doing about the same things as before the upgrade. I did a couple of apps and I added (Sims 3 game). However, I have yet to touch it because of the diminished battery life.
I have included a copy of my Etrecheck, can somone take a look and let me know if you think I need to clean something off?
I did do the SMC reset and that seemed to to give a little juice (like putting new tire on your car but still not where it was before the Mavericks upgrade) as I am up to about 6 hours of battery life after the SMC reset.
Please let me know what other information you might need from me that would help and thank you so much!!

    Hi Lex,
Not sure why but I had a hard time finding all of the related files to get rid of Origin. But I think I finally got them. I just uninstalled Flash and Chrome. I don't like Safari but all well. I suppose I can deal with it it until Apple fixes this battery issue and then maybe I can go back to Chrome. Safari isn't too happy with certain websites, under the Preferences/Security there is an error message that reads "Google Safe Browsing Service Is Not Available. Has not been updated in 8 days."
Haven't noticed a change in battery since doing all of this so let me know if it will take a couple of days to reset. Or if you see anything else that I can do to help. Thank!

  • How to remove Mavericks upgrade

Is there a way to uninstall the Mavericks upgrade? I have read many problems and glitches associated with Mavericks but I particularly find the Dock not opening the first time I click on it very annoying. It's a simple little glitch that is becoming more and more irritating.

    I'll try it.

  • Internet Sharing WiFi **TO** Wired Ethernet

    Back Ground:
    I have a Late 2013 MBP Retnia.
I have WiFi access via a captured portal.
I have other WiFi and Wired (Ethernet) devices that can not authenticate to a captured portal.
    Question:
    1) On the single MBP mentioned can I connect to the captured portal WiFi via one band (say 2.4) and then become a WiFI hotspot with the other band (say 5)?
    2) On the single MBP mentioned can I connect to the captured portal WiFi via one band (say 2.4) and then share the Internet connection to the Thunderbolt Ethernet connector?

    Hi gregbogus,
Checking the Internet Sharing options in the Sharing System Preference, there's not an option to specify which wireless band is used for what, but you can share from Wi-Fi to Ethernet (or vice versa).

  • Files won't save since Maverick upgrade

I have a file that exist in a folder and would like to replace it with an updated version of the same file (example.xls with example.xls) it asks if I want to replace and I say yes but the original file remains. I must first delete the original then svae the new version. This is only since I did the Maverick upgrade. Is there a fix for this.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Mavericks breaks WiFi

    Hello Everyone,
I'm not sure if I'm the only one who've seen this, but I upgraded from OS X Lion to Mavericks on my Macbook Pro today and noticed that my WiFi connection was broken ever since. It says "Connected," but I cannot ping any websites. Every time I turn off the wifi and turn it back on, I get internet connection, but it lasts only a few seconds and then goes away. Anyone knows a solution for this?
    Thanks!

I posted this in another thread but it could be applicable here if you have AT&T Uverse and a Motorola NVG510 router. If not, probably does not apply...
I was having problems connecting to Wifi with my Macbook Pro (!2010), after upgrading to Mavericks. I was on the phone repeateadly with AT&T because I have Uverse. Testing everything (channels, signal strength, interference from neighboring units - I ive in a condo in Chicago) and had techs come out to check the line, ports, switches, etc. But when I hardwired the Mac into the Uverse router, it worked fine. This rulled out any problems with the line in and is a good rule/out test in any setting to isolate the problems as Wifi.
Even though I was convinced signal strength was not the problem, I considered getting a repeater but then I read that repeaters are not really good and it is better to reconfigure a router to act as an access point on the network. Plunked down about $80 for a Belkin AC750 router at Best Buy. In the setup it has an option to set it up as an access point only. Clicked that, connected it to my Motorola NVG510 Uverse modem using the lan ports on both routers and then connected to the Belkin router from my Mac. Voila!  It's been a solid 11+ Mbs ever since (my plan maxes at 12Mbs) for the last two days. Connection is still solid and life if good even though it ***** to plunk down another $80 for a second router. But it was worth it just to get rid of the headaches. This also fixed problems I was having with my Airport Expresses dropping music streams all throughout the day; another major headache I just lived with for a long time even before the Mavericks upgrade.
I think the wifi capabilities of the Motorola NVG510 modem and how it connects or does not with the Mac and other Apple products generally are the cause of a lot of problems with AT&T Uverse Internet service. I don't know if any of you are on Uverse but if so, I highly recommend configuring a second router as an acces point and testing it out. Essentially, you are bypassing the wifi signal of the Motorola and using the second router/access point for the wifi signal. It can be any old router you still might have - the setup is just a bit trickier because you have to do it manually (disable DHCP, assign an IP address from the protected addresses on the first or primary router, make sure using same envryption protocols, give the same network name and password to both routers - although I did not have to do this with the Belkin).
    Good luck.

  • Unstable since Maverick upgrade

Since the Maverick upgrade some programs freeze randomly longer than before.   Almost daily the bluetooth will disconnect from iTunes requiring System Prefs > Sound to reconnect.   Then shortly after that the iTunes will forget the radio station I was playing.   This did not happen before.   I now check the Software update often hoping for the cure.   A claimed benefit for Maverick is the improved battery use, however I never had battery issues in my MacBook with earlier OS.
Unrelated, the AppleCare Protection Plan can not be bought if the MacBook is older than 3 years - enforced obsolescence?

Before Maverick, programs rarely froze unless there was some delay in downloading data from the internet such as when launching Chrome etc.

  • Mail Issues since maverick upgrade

Since upgrading to Mavericks I have been having the several issues with Mail. The are as follows:
Scrolling is available intermittently or not working at all (using Magic Mouse)
Problem: Scrolling works for a while when using mail, then stops working. I have to click on the side bar to go up and down on all scroll screction within mail. This issue only resolves when quitting Mail, and sometimes will only work again when shutting down and restarting my iMac.
Scrolling on folders withing the main body of my iMac also stop working from time to time and only resolves when force quitting finder, or restarting my mac (or somethime shutting down and restarting the mac).
Email address pull down menu does not close down
Problem: When typing an new email and selecting an outgoing address the pull down menu appears, but once an address is chosen using the mouse curser the pull down menu remains on screen and does not close down automatically. I can not close it with teh mouse curser and have to use the keyboard (return or tab buttins) to close down the drop down address menu. It used to close down prior to Maverick upgrade. The pull down menu remains on screen blocking access to the CC and Subject sections.
Saving Mail attachments to desktop folders does not work.
Problem: Saving attachements from mail does not work at all using the drop down menu within mail. The process of using the save attachments menu within mail seems to work, but when you go to the folder after using this process, the item or items have not been saved.
Click and drag is the only way to move attahcements from mail to desktop folders now.
Mail will not quit automatically when shutting down Imac
Problem: When shutting down my iMac, mail will no longer quit automatically and prevents the shut down. Once shut down has been selected, Mail will no longer quit and I have to use Force Quite to shut it down.
Would welcome suggestions on how to resolve these issue.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

  • Connectivity speed plummet after Mavericks upgrade

I ran a speed test from my iMac (2.66 GHz Intel core 2 Duo) after Mavericks upgrade and I'm only getting 0.06 Mbps download over 5g WiFi with a 20 Mbit Time Warner Turbo Cable account.
The App Store app seems not to respond either when attempting to download updates.
    Any thoughts?
    Thank you.

I have experienced the same issues since the official release of Mavricks. I have even had my cable provider out to swap my modem. In all of my testing... the issue is clearly Mavricks. I have incredable speeds on all devices exept my mac no that Mavricks was installed.
We are talking a 500-700% difference in speeds. This was not always the case and has only been an issue on the 1 machine since the upgrdade.
When I find that my speeds are crippled, a restart of the wifi adapter will usually fix the issue for the time being. It WILL return with in a few hrs to 24 hrs.... unacceptable in my book.
I have since upgraded another mac on my network and we will see if it suffers the same fate.

  • Imac not responding after mavericks upgrade- black screen

Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks 2-3 weeks ago ....if I leave my mac for a while and then try to wake it up with a touch of mouse or keyboard, the screen remains black. The mac is still on as its warm .The only way to recover this is to :
    1. Pull out the plug - gives fresh reboot
    2. Keep the start button pressed for approx 5-10 secs, then press it again and the mac powers up...to the state it was when left ie not a fresh reboot.
This is very annoying , has my wife yelling at me and no longer gives us the instant access from sleep we used to have ...
    Any help appreciated !
    Thanks Jon.
I have a 27" iMac from August 2010 (ie v soon after CPU upgrade) , core i3 processor

OK I appear to have fixed this ...after the Mavericks upgrade the screensaver was reset to loading photo's from "national geographic" which it did after a few mins...i have changed this to another option photo's of earch/space etc..now i can wake the imac from sleep immediately as before ....so now fixed !

  • After the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan and save the file to desktop or documents.  You can only see the image in the print preview area. Does anyone know how to fix this or when a fix will be out?

After Aple support downloaded the new 10.9.2 Maverick upgrade on my MacBook Air, my Photosmart C4480 3 in 1 printer can not scan a document and load the file on to my desktop or document file. (You can see the doc image in the preview but it doesn't save it.) Does anyone know an Apple fix for this or when the fix will be out?  After hours of trying reloading, and the usual fixes, etc. Apple told me to call HP, and HP told me they don't support Mac.  It does not seem honorable of Apple to put out an upgrade and not tell people it will destroy their scanning ability, and that the only thing to do is to buy another printer/scanner.

Have you tried using Applications/Image Capture to scan.
    Vuescan often works.
