Mavericks & VLC player Sound issues

Hi Everyone ever since I've installed Mavericks my vlc player has no sound , tried everything from resetting PRAM to reinstalling VLC still not working , some avi files have a volume on start up but as soon as i pause or forward the volume goes.
Anyone having the samw problem.

same here... It worked just fine a few weeks ago. Whoever does programing for Apple surely was working for Microsoft before. Not cool Apple

Audio Player Sound issue

Hey guys,
Got the 9300, and i was playing music on it perfectly, sound was good, have some nice headphones much better than the blackberry ones, I unplugged the headphones went out with my cell, came home and started working again, plugged in the head phones and the audio quality was rubbish, at first i thought ahhh this must be me i pushed them in to hard, or something along those lines, put the BB headphones in and same thing, such **bleep**, restarted the phone with the button and didn't fix, last resort, i hard booted it. That worked the quality is back to awesome, however the question still remains, what happened in those 2 hours, anyone want to enlighten me? Do i need to worry i got some sort of issue?

I believe both the DVD player and FrontRow use QT for the audio which would explain the same behavior. It may be in the DVD audio encoding and QT is attempting to make a mono center sound channel, which normally works.
You could rip the DVD and demux the audio - reverse the phase of one channel and remux it and burn a copy. I have never done this, but some rippers and burners allow audio manipulation.
I would first make a disk image and play it rather than waste a blank DVD.
I use VLC for all my media playing. VLC works just like FrontRow with the IR remote.

Flash Player sound issue driving me mad pls help

I am trying to listen to http://www.manchesterradioonline.net/stream/player/ . It is an online radio station here in uk that uses adobe flash to stream. When i click to listen to the stream i get no sound, im not even sure if the stream starts. I am using firefox ( have tried ie and google chrome same problem) This is driving me insane as i realy want to listen to the station. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If restarting did not resolve the issue, open Mail Preferences and make sure the box next to "Play sounds for other mail actions" is checked.

After clearing cash on mac applications won't lunch any more..I tried to delete apps like VLC player with app cleaner and again download and instal new but it's the same..goes for all apps that are not originally part of Yosemite. Please advise me?!

It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:

If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

Some videos not playing in Quicktime but WILL play on VLC Player

Hello,
All of a sudden, some of my video files will not play on Quicktime. OT reads the length of the movie but when I click play, all I get is a black screen and no sound even though the progress bar rolls per usual. When I open the videos in my VLC Player, the play just fine. This is not with all of my movies. Some movies play fine in Quicktime. Also, if this helps, Final Cut X will not recognize these movie files for import. Am using Quicktime 10.1.
Thoughts? Help? Anyone?

Installed QT 7 and videos play fine. No issues. I don't have QT7 Pro.
Not sure if this will work, but if I had a copy of the non-playing file, the first thing I would try would be to open the file in MPEG Streamclip and re-save the data to a "real" MOV file container to see if it would then be playback compatible with the QT X player app.
Tried Streamclip and it will save as MOV but the size changes (from 640x480 to 720x480 and I get a stretched look. OT X will play it however. Tried to "export" using differrent formats but with mixed results. Sometimes I got sound but no video. I will continue to fiddle with settings but it doesn't seem like a reliable path to go down.
Could I be missing the codec component? Is there a way to check?
Not very likely if any files play have the same video compression format. Had the non-playing files been encoded with one of the HD DV codecs, then yes, that might have been a possibility whould could have been checked.
Would your answer be the same now that we know QT7 plays the videos without any issues?
Exported out to a .dv file. Format exact same as the working one above. Plays fine.
Of course. You exported the audio and video as a DV compressed data in DV stream file container. Thus, both the file format and compression format are now QT X compatible.
The container is a .dv. I did rename it to .mov at one point to see if that helped but got the same result.
Of course. Changing the file extension is like calling a cup of coffee a glass of coffee—i.e., the coffee is still in a cup. Basically, this only works if the data in the container is already compatible with the file container and the container is compatible with the player. For instance, H.264/AAC compressed data will play in either QT 7 or QT X players whether it is in an MOV, MP4, or M4V file container. On the other hand, "muxed" MPEG-2/AC3 data won't play in the QT X v10.2 player with a VOB file extension but will play if you change the extension to TS or MPG. On the other hand, the VOB or MPG file (with the QT MPEG-2 playback codec component installed) will play in both QT 7 (without audio) and MPEG Streamclip while the TS file won't open in the QT 7 player but plays fine with audio in MPEG Streamclip.

If you also have an online DropBox account, then yes, that would be a good method for posting large files. You then only have to post or email the URL to the people you want to have access to the data.
True. One of the issues is that I want to re-edit some of these files which means I need to get them into FCP. I know there is a workaround, i.e. importing them into iMovie like I did and then spitting them out again so they will play but I feel like I am losing quality that way. Aren't I? This was before I started saving projects so I could always go back into them. Plus, I really want to preserve the original files for backup sake.

It started from last week. Whenever I play a video it stops for about 5-10 seconds and then continue playing. I have played mp4 and avi format.
But unable to understand the reason behind it. If someone out here know the reason and also how to fix this issue, please lease let me know.

But I just discovered that that it is actually not only the sound that stops working but rather the whole video that has a "hick-up" and then when it continues the sound is gone. If I fastforward/rewind then it seem like the player rocovers and play the stream correctly again.
What are the Mp4 clip prefs you have used when converting?
I am planning to try some other settings when converting to see if that makes any difference but I doubt it will help. I think we will have to wait for a "better" i.e. working Video Player for the iPod ...

VLC player plugin conflict with Windows Media Player plugin in Firefox 8.0.1

After I upgraded to Firefox 8.0.1, Windows Media Player stopped playing embedded videos within the Firefox browser.
If you go to Add-ons and disabled VLC player plugin, Firefox will start to plays any Windows Media Player videos without any issue.
The minute I click to enable VLC, Windows Media Player stop working again. This problem is not used to happen in Firefox 6.02.
Please help me with problem. any suggestions will be appreciated.

You can disable the VLC plugin from the Addons window. Choose Plugins, find VLC in the list and disable it.

Windows 8 graphics not good in vlc player and audio is choppy

even though everything is fine in windows 8 in my macbook pro 2011 model , videos in vlc player is not of good quality.
Audio in youtube makes a strange shrill sound after a while . I have all latets bootcamp drivers installed (amd radeon one for graphics).
Will any bootcamp updated drivers fix it?

likely people repport that the nvidia part of the gpu don't work in win8 in bootcamp currently
so it only use the intel low power part of the gpu which perform poorly for games and media

Some companies streaming TV will not be intending for you to operate in such a manner and potentially save their content. Copyright issues are likely to be involved.

X-Fi DD-DTS doesn't seem to work right playing DVD Movies with VLC Player or anything els

I have an X-Fi Platinum with the bay and When I try to Play a DVD with VLC Player And choose a/52 over s/pdif it sounds HORRID skipping and pausing and not functioning at all.. I must choose 5. channel to have Listenable Audio. The Same goes for AC3 Encoded Files If I chose A/52 over S/PDIF in VLC player it sounds like **bleep** and doesn't seem to decode it right. I must chose stereo 2 channel to listen to AC3 encoded video's.. NOTE The dolby Digital symbol DOES appear when i chose A/52 over S/PDIF so it does know it's a digital signal.. And I have the software set to USE hardware decoder and S/PDIF in Decode selected. NOW Here's something that REALLY makes me wonder wtf is wrong, I can connect my Home DVD Player or Cable Box over the Optical?in OR the S/PDIF in and the SOB works Fine, The Dolby Digital symbol comes up and everything sounds great! Preview in Finder windows does not work with VLC Player

hi there,
i am using vlc player, and whenever i access a folder where i have many avi folders that vlc player is set as the default program to open them, the finder windows freezes and i have to relaunch it. also, when i click on get info for a particular avi folder, finder crashes again because it cannot preview the file in the window. does anyone know how i can resolve this issue?

I use VLC and there are some bugs with the latest version. Try an earlier version. WIth VLC, I keep the older versions for things like this.
For instance, the new VLC give the wrong time on a stereo audio file. In fact it gives double the correct time. I have had some other issues with VLC, but it's easy enough to remove and install.
If you make QT the default and then right-click the video and select VLC to play it, does that work?

Airplay/Mirroring for video on VLC Player

I am expecting my mid-2013 27" iMac in the mail shortly but my question is can I watch VLC player via airplay/display mirroring on my TV? I will be running the latest version of Yosemite. Is this possible with the Apple TV (sound included), or is there an alternative to the apple TV for this purpose? I currently am using a thunderbolt-HDMI cable from my mid-2010 MacBook for this but would like to do this wirelessly.

VNC (build in Mac solution) need a VNC Server (source) and a VNC Client (destination) to work.
If you connect (screen sharing) two Mac's or a Mac and a PC you will have as well a sever and a client running.
As soon as your TV enables you to install a VNC Client and let you start it, you have what you want.
Apple TV receive a constant multicast stream from the source (e.g. your Mac) to display e.g. a video. Also ATV buffers a part of the stream to unpack the compressed data, decode video / audio and deliver screen and sound synchronous.
That is a total different technic compared to a screen sharing.

Dvd-player/vlc player/xine-player hang when disc starts

lately all my players hang when i get my dvd-hardware startet. the dvd-screen pops up, several seconds of the movie are shown and then it hangs (ends just by quit now). i´ve tried with dvd-player, vlc-player and xine-player. one week ago all (at least dvd-player and vlc-player) worked perfectly well - i don´t understand ?! btw i´m talking of original discs. software is updated, i´m working with 10.6.8

Thank you for the response. I have checked it, and it says (i've dutch language) something i would translate to English as "System sound output". Is that preference for all discs? I would assume so. But DVD-player plays some discs without sound, and some with sound. So maybe it is codec related? But i would not know how to check that... (when i try to see what codec, audio says it is dts, and i assume dts audio should be no problem?)
