Mavericks: wake up on lan behavior

Hi,
after already having issues with Snow Leopard wake up on lan function I now also facing a major problem with wake up on lan function with my Mac Pro.
I checked the support forum and there are tons of entries regarding wake up on lan issues.
In my case the wake up is initiated on LAN (cable) connection by wake up UDP packet (port 9).
The mac is starting to wake up but then suddently the system is going back to sleep before any user access is possible (appr. after 30 sec.)
So I'd like to ask if someone of you is experiencing same issue and if there is a fix available.
I already tried several steps like
- reboot in safe mode
- SMC reset (disconnecting the power cable)
- repairing file permissions
with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 (used version before upgrade to Mavericks) the WOL function is working without problems.
--> as I faced issues with IOnetworkingfamily.kext file I was previously patching the file with a version from 10.6.2 to get WOL working in snow leopard 10.6.8.
So APPLE please fix this issue asap.
Thanx,
BR,
Thomas

Hi,
is wake up on LAN for your Mac Pro (mine is a early 2009 model) under Mavericks working on your machine?
I'd like to know if this is a general software problem or just appearing on my Mac - (as described above the mac pro is trying to startup after WOL message was received but is then returning to sleep after nearly 30-40 seconds.)
Is there anything I could try to fix this issue or this problem related to the current Mavericks release?
If this is a SW bug is there a fix planned to be released in the near future?
Please help to clarify my questions by letting me know how your system is reacting.
I appreciate every response.
Thanx,
Br,
Thomas

  • Can i make an external button to power up the computer using wake up on lan?

With the feature of Wake up on Lan I am assuming that the computer can be shutdown completly but via wake up on Lan?
If this is the case I have my mac pro hidden from sight but obviously need to turn the computer still.
I do not want to use the Sleep modes nor use schedules.
Can I take an ethernet cable and plug something on the end to then power it up? (I don't want to put another computer on the end of that ethernet cable though).
I'm open to suggestions as to how I could make and external power on button. Any USB buttons i could use to power on? Or could I get to the power switch of the mac and connect up another button? Isn't there 2 pins in the machine that an repair agent would use to turn it on without using the button?
Hope i can get a good tidy solution to this.
    Many Thanks

You have found the answer. If the video chipset is OK but there is a fault in the internal display or its cabing, an external monitor will work. However, if the video chipset--which is farther "upstream" in the system--goes bad, the option of an external monitor is off the table.

  • Onkyo - Wake up on lan

Is there a way to wake up my Onkyo receiver with spotify connect using the app on IOS ? The receiver as wake up on lan feature it would be nice .

Most of the articles on the internet point to that Command.
I'm trying to use Wake up On LAN on Powershell and the only way to do that is Send-WOL.
I can do it manually but now I need to add to my script to start up the Servers.
The only solutions I found was the below.
    Send-WOL -mac 00:11:32:21:2D:11 -ip 192.168.8.255 -port 7
    https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/Send-WOL-packet-using-0638be7b
But at the moment just like you my Powershell doesn't detect the Send-WOL command.
How does one configure it to detect that command.

  • Satellite Pro L770-12P - Wake-up on LAN not possible?

    Hi,
I am trying to send a Wake-up on LAN (WOL) message to my notebook to power up.
I did not manage to get it working.
But I do see a strange thing happening: When I send a WOL magic packet while my notebook is running, the notebook automatically reboots after shut down.
It looks like the Magic Packet is stored somewhere (maybe in the NIC?) and is activated after the notebook has shut down. I think that a magic packet should be ignored when a machine has already started, and not be saved and executed after the PC has shut down again.
This said, I did a successful test with another PC; I am able to send a magic packet over my company network. So the problem is not somewhere else. But the BIOS of my Toshiba laptop is not picking it up when the machine is turned off. Only when it is already running.
Is this a bug and can this bug be solved?
    Regards,
    Alfons
PS I do have the latest BIOS version (v2.30) and I have enabled Wake Up on LAN in the BIOS.

    Hi
According to the Toshiba driver page, the last BIOS update was 03/09/12 and I doubt that new BIOS version will be released in the future. The Satellite Pro L770 series is already discontinued.
However, as far as I know the Wakeup on LAN option can be found also in LAN card properties.
Go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab
Here you should check if WOL option is enabled.
By the way: the LAN driver seems to be from Realtek. I would recommend you to update the LAN driver directly from Realtek driver page. I know that WOL is controlled on BIOS level but I think update is worth a try.

  • Satellite A300: "Wake on Wireless LAN" option disabled in BIOS

    Hello,
I have a Satellite A300-230 notebook, and in the BIOS, the option (under Advanced) to enable/disable the *Wake on Wireless LAN* is disabled and greyed out without any way to change it.
Why is that so? How can I enable it?
    BIOS version is 2.20 (latest).
    Thanks to all.

Hi, i've just installed the Toshiba Hardware Utility and there is no option there for wireless lan wakeup. It has Wake-on-Lan for my wired card (which is enabled), but no wireless Wake-on-Lan.
btw, my BIOS is InsydeH2O. I understand that there are several manufacturers of BIOS's for this notebook, no? what is yours?
also: my wireless card is Atheros

  • Maverick don't see lan printer

I have installed driver and software for Epson XP 600 on mac air with Maverick OS. This printer is connected in lan with a static IP address and it is a WIFI printer. After the installation The driver have been updated by Apple automatically. I have try many time to add the printer, but the system don't recognize it. It ss not visible. Really I don't know what to do. Other Win 7 and Win 8 computer connected to the same lan aer working with the printer.

Since the current paradigm for installing drivers is to let OS X do it automatically, I wonder if you have installed an old driver that interferes with the new one.
You can try deleting the Epson folder from /Library/Printers (use the Go menu > go to folder). Then reset printing system:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
Then add the printer in Print & Scan prefs.

If so, how do I set it up?

    Hi
Unfortunately, if the WOL option is not supported by BIOS, then you cannot use this.
But check also the preinstalled tool called HW Setup.
This tool provides some BIOS options. But from my knowledge there should be only the option Wake Up on Keyboard.

  • Z97-G45 Gaming Wake by Onboard LAN Missing

    Hello,
I recently built a PC using the Z97-G45 Gaming MOBO. I was hoping to employee the use of the wake on LAN feature that the manual outlines ("Resume by Onboard LAN") found under "Wake Up Event Setup". However, I do not have this option. I do have all the other options discussed in the manual such as by keyboard, mouse, PCI and RTC Alarm.
The only steps I have taken so far has been to update the BIOS to the newest version. This did not reveal the setting. I do have a ticket in with MSI as well, however, I thought a fellow user may have some experience in this.
Is there another setting that must be in play in order to reveal certain Integrated LAN settings?
And advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks for your time,

  • Wake on Wireless Lan

I can successfully wake my Mac Mini over the wireless lan some of the time, but not consistently.
I am using a Linksys router flashed with DD-WRT as a repeater bridge talking to a Thomson wireless ADSL modem (provided by my ISP). I am not therefore using the Airport Extreme set up recommended by Apple for WoWLAN.
The issue seems to be that if the Mac has been sleeping for only a short time (seems like an hour or two is the cutoff), then WoWLAN works fine. I use a Squeezebox Wireless Music Player to wake the Mac wirelessly by sending a wake packet to its MAC addresss, and I also use a iphone app that does the same.
Neither approach wakes the Mac after it has been asleep for longer than an hour or so. Looking at the console messages, the key one seems to be
+ airportd[301] _fastFinderContextInit: Starting auto-join with ssid 'My wireless SSID'+
appears when the Mac wakes from a state which would not allow WoWLAN
My suspicion is that after a set idle period, the Mac is somehow dis-associated from the router. Does anyone have any thoughts how I could fix this. My instinct is that there might be a setting within the Router (actually the repeater bridge) that I can change that stops it forgetting the Mac after a timeout period of no activity or extends the period from one hour to say 8, which should be more than enough.

  • Apps stuck after Mavericks wake up

I just got a Mac Mini and I wanted the latest software so I installed Mavericks. Whenever I leave my computer alone and go do something with app open, for example Opera or VLC player, the current app is stuck beneath the upper bar! It happens every time after waking the computer up. I have a Dell 2709w (1920x1200), connected via HDMI>DVI because, guess what, if I connect it directly over HDMI I can only use 1920x1080 and not the full res, even though the OS says it should be 1920x1200. It's so annoying! As Opera is usually left open I'm able to "stick it out" by quiting it or by loading another application, like Quick Time. This time VLC got stuck on my movie and I was able to captuer a video. Here's the thing - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wMJenj0bng
What the **** is the problem with this thing?!?

If you select Scaled in the Display Preference, do you see 1080p...?
If so, try 1080p instead of the lower Resolution.
If that doesn't help you may need to get a > Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter to support that 27" monitor, because the HDMI port really only supports 24" monitors up to 1900x1200.
    Video Support
Works with almost any display or HDTV.
Thunderbolt port with support for up to 2560-by-1600 resolution
HDMI port with support for up to 1920-by-1200 resolution
DVI output using HDMI to DVI Adapter (included)
Support for dual display and video mirroring

  • How to "Wake-up" the USB Behavior and the CDROM drive?

    Good afternoon everyone,
I have a little problem. My computer doesn't see the cdrom drive. All that I can figure out is that when I placed a thumb drive in the USB port, the computer found the device. But when I tried to ejected, it came up with device being busy. I figured that if I shut down the computer that would reset things. Wrong. Now the computer does not see the USB port and now it does not see the cdrom drive. I know that both appear under the remote disk directory. I am guessing that the volume manager is messed up. Could you get me back on track with this? Once I have this solved, then I can answer "Sunworshipper's" question in another thread.
    Thank you,
    Fred

    Good afternoon,
You are right. It does appear under /cdrom. My brain isn't here. I found that I could use ejected.
Some how in clicking on different things, I have discovered that there is a nice "desktop" It did show the CD-rom disk in the computer. I clicked on that and I was able to eject the disk that way. Although it seems "nautilus" (whatever this is) doesn't like me doing that; it generated an error message. I closed it and the desk top went away.
Is it normally for the /cdrom to keep displaying a cd-rom disk that is no longer in use? How do I clear that?
I think I got the idea about the rmdisk, because that is where the USB device had once appeared. Since I had the volume manager running, I decided to insert the USB device. The computer wanted to reformat it. I answered "No," but I don't know where it is. What else do I need to do?
    Thank you,
    Fred

  • Satellite C660 - how to enable and Use WAKE ON LAN?

    Hi All,
I previously posted asking about using Wake on Wireless LAN and was very helpfully advised that this was not possible, so I have started to explore the Wake ON LAN option.
I have a Toshiba C660 PSC0LE-00500JEN and have enabled Wake ON LAN on the BIOS, and have connected a LAN cable between my wireless router and the laptop, both of which recognise each other so the cable seems ok.
However, whether I use a WAKE ON LAN app on my android, or I use an online "wake on lan via browser" site, the laptop still remains asleep.
    Can anyone advise?
    Thanks
    James

    Hi
The Wake Up on Lan option would work if you would send an Magic Packet to the remote machine (notebook).
I have no experience using the Android app who knows if it function properly
Try other method. For example using an software like Wake on Lan for Windows Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Google for that to download this software.
Furthermore go to device manager -> LAN card -> Properties -> Advanced tab and check here if the WOL is enabled too
