Mavericks won't install

Hello
I have a problem with my Macbook Pro Retina from 2012. I downloaded Mavericks yesterday and installed it immediately. It ran smoothly but when I shut the Mac down it took approximately 1 minute before it was turned of. Approximately 5-10 times slower than on Os x ML. I was recommended to try format my drive and reinstall it again. I followed the instructions from apple.com where I formated the drive and after that reinstalled Mavericks. Now it runs throug like it normally do when installation but when the time remaining gets down to about 2-5 minutes the installation shuts down and I am directed back to the main menu where I can choose between Time Machine, Reinstall Mavericks, Help through Safariand Disk Utility.
Does anybody have any suggestions on what I can do about it? Because of the formation I cannot log into the system. When I start my Mac it starts up in installation/repair mode.

If this is any help I have archivated a log file with some errors. I am not a hardcore computer user so I need a little help to understand what it mens. So far I haven't been able to succesfully reinstall Mac OS X Mavericks all though I got a new message last time I tried saying something about Apple Store connection.
It would be much appreciated if someone could help me get OS X back on my Macbook - if possible.

  • Mavericks won't install on newest mac mini fusion drive

I have a mac mini, latest version.  I have a fusion drive.
Mavericks won't install on that drive.  I get this message:
This disk doesn't use the GUID Partition Table scheme. Use Disk Utility to change the partition scheme. Select the Disk, choose the
partition tab, select the volume Scheme and then click Options.
Well, I did that, up to "choose the partition tab."  Then it says "you may only split this partition into two. To do this, click +."
I did that, and there were two partitions.  the only option left is to select apply, which I didn't.
The "options" were still greyed out.
    So now what?
    Thanks for any input.

Lion creates a recovery area with a minimal version of OS X and it may be unable to do so due to use over the years, and possibly other resizing operations (Boot Camp).  It could just need more space, if you only have less than 8gb free.  Lion shuffles and merges the two systems when it upgrades.  You can burn the image downloaded from App Store by finding the dmg file inside the "Install Mac OS X Lion.app" bundle, dragging it into disk utility, then burning from there.
Otherwise, you can appropriate a MBR/BIOS formatted 4GB thumbdrive, 8GB of either EFI or MBR/BIOS thumbdrive, flash storage device, or external hard drive, and format it, using the restore operation through disk utility to copy the contents of the installer disk to the media.  Exposed via the alt key before the Apple logo, should show the bootable media, where you can format over the former installation.
As always, backup your files when upgrading.  I recommend if your installion is over a year old to wipe and upgrade if you can't make otherwise the media bootable, using your 10.6 recovery dvd.
If you cannot find an external medium to backup your files before the upgrade, if you need to format via disk utility (Through 10.6 media), you can consider Dropbox as an option (2GB free account).
It's not uncommon for the partition to simply refuse operations, including upgrades and resizing.

  • Mavericks won't install - not enough memory

I have successfully downloaded Mavericks and restarted. But it seems I filled my hard drive and it won't install, because it does not have enough memory. It seems Mavericks install created a new virtual startup disc, so every time I restart, Mavericks tries to install but finds out it does not have enough memory to do so. Is there a way around the new Mavericks startup disc to the old startup disc, which is on the same hard drive, so that I am able to clean up hard drive before installing Mavericks? I only have access to Terminal, Disk Utility and System information through Mavericks Installer menu. When I quit the Mavericks Installer, it tries to select a new startup disc, but does not find any. I have iMac with Intel i3 and latest OS X Mountain Lion before Mavericks install. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for reply. Yes, sorry, I don't have enough free disc space. The question is, how to get out of the Mavericks OS X Install process and start the computer using old system, old start up disc, which is on the same hard drive. Otherwise, I don't have a chance to clean up space on the hard drive and I am in the loop, Restart - Install OS X Mavericks - Finding out there is not enough space - Restart - etc.

  • Maverick won't install! And I have nothing backed up...help please!

I updated to Maverick but now it won't install. It says I have to repair discs but when I go to utilities and repair they won't repair. Now when I turn on my computer it goes directly to the install maverick screen and I can't do anything else. My computer is not backed up (stupid, I know). Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there some way to backup my computer to an external HD at this point? Can I revert back to mountain lion? If I go back to factory settings do I lose everything? What should I do??

    Kelso,
If Eric's suggestion of Command+Q doesn't free you up, have you tried Force Quit? -- click and hold the black Apple icon in the far upper left corner -- Force Quit is SCARY powerful and I suggest it ONLY if you are all out of other options -- if FQ gives you the option to quit Install and other things, do so and when you reach a simple desktop or Finder window grab an external drive, plug it in, and backup your documents and non-App Store applications manually.
Then turn the machine off, have coffee or tea, and decide on your next course of action.
Final suggestion, when you do ultimately get back in order, get a Time Machine and use it. A 100GB external drive is less than $100....I suspect you may have already thought of this.
    Good Luck.

  • OS Mavericks won't Install on Mac Mini

Computer was purchased end of 2009/2010 and meets minimium Hardware Specs.
Currently have MAC OS X 10.6.8 installed (Completely Updated)
Processor Speed 1.83 Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory is 4GB
Open/Free HD Space available +40GB (80 GB Total)
Any thoughts on why its not downloading?  Getting error message that says system is not compatable with OS X

Just tried that and it still wouldn't work.  The exact error message I get is:
"We could not complet your update. OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer"
Not sure why it can't since everything is up to date.

  • HT201364 Can anyone tell me why osx mavericks won't install?

I have software version 10.6.8 and a 13 macbook. Not a pro just the regular white laptop. I'm not sure why but everytime I go to install osx mavericks it gives me OSD "osx mavericks cannot be installed on this computer." What can i use to check my capabilities?

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, click on More Info, and check the model identifier against the following, which are the earliest Macs of each type that can run Mountain Lion and Mavericks:
    iMac7,1
    MacBook5,1
    MacBookPro3,1
    MacBookAir2,1
    Macmini3,1
    MacPro3,1
    Xserve3,1
Those OS versions require a 64-bit EFI. A computer incapable of running Mountain Lion which has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU and at least 2GB of RAM can run Lion 10.7, which is available by clicking here. Neither Mavericks nor Lion support PowerPC software such as Microsoft Office 2004.

  • OS X Mavericks won't install after erasing Mac Hardrive for reboot

So I decided to reboot my computing and now the new OS X software won't install

If you do have an iMac, Late 2012, restart the iMac holding the Command+Option+R keys so you boot from the Apple internet servers, you must be on the internet to do that.  You can then choose Install Mac OS X and reinstall your operating system.  Then proceed to go to the Mac App Store and download and install Mavericks.

  • Maverick won't install

Hi, I've downloaded the new OS X Mavericks and it won't upgrade but now Macbook is stuck in the Installer mode. How do I get it to exit and stop it from trying to install Mavericks. Thanks

    Hi Natasha50,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you haven't already, try downloading OS X Mavericks again from the main Mac App Store product page:

  • Mavericks won't install on Mac Mini Server

I am trying to install Mavericks on a headless Mac Mini Server. After I enter my admin password, the install stops with the error:
An error occured while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.
I have verified the disk - no issues
    I repaired disk permission
    I rebooted the server
    No luck

Found a fix. I installed the 10.8.5 combo update then tried again. It is working now.

  • OS X Mavericks won't install because of time machine

Has anyone had a problems with OS X Mavericks not installing itself because of time machine backing up data on the internal hard drive? what have you done/been recommended to do to overcome this? I have a macbook pro mid-2012 version with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 running.

You will need to delete the backups.backupdb folder from the internal hard drive. If you are concerned there is data in there then move it to an external hard drive before deleting it.

  • OS X Mavericks won't install?

Hi, I am trying to install OS X Mavericks on my 2011 MacBook Air. The installation process seems to go smoothly until about 30 seconds or so into the actual installation itself. The installation log pops up, but there is no error message apart from "The OS X installation couldn't be completed." Is there any reason why this is happening? I have verified the disk and repaired permissions on Disk Utility, but nothing was wrong. My school has installed Esafe Prism on my mac but that shouldn't make any difference, should it? Thanks.

My school has installed Esafe Prism on my mac but that shouldn't make any difference, should it?
    It very much could.
Can you start up in Safe Mode and try to install it? Restart and hold down the Shift key until you see the gray screen.

  • Mavericks won't install and iTunes/App Store always quit unexpectedly.

Let me start by saying that I am not very computer-savvy. That being said, I don't mess with my computer very much so I feel like this should be an easy fix.
The problem started a few days ago when my macbook froze and then shut down. When I booted it back up, I noticed that iTunes wouldn't open. The icon would just bounce for a while and then I would get the message that iTunes had quit unexpectedly. I figured that updating my OS to Maverick would possibly solve the problem. I downloaded Mavericks, but when my computer rebooted and Mavericks began installing, it stopped after two minutes and simply said that it could not complete installation and that I should try restarting my computer. So I did. And the same thing happened again and again. Eventually i chose the old startup disk and gave up. But now the app store is doing the same thing as iTunes. I tried a disk repair and I tried to repair disk permissions but neither helped. I have a lot of music in my iTunes library so I'd rather not uninstall/reinstall iTunes.
Any help on either front would be wonderful!!
    Thank you!

update: I reinstalled iTunes and it's working now

  • Mavericks won't install from the app store, it's not even downloading

I have a MacBook Pro that the apple website says is compatible with mavericks, but when i launch the app store, and try to download it, after entering my password and the button goes green and says 'install app' a loading icon appears briefly in the app store toolbar, then dissapears, and no app begins downloading! Help!

  • Installed new hard drive, formatted, mavericks won't install, says need 2GB or more memory, I have 8GB memory

I have two 13" Macbook pros, #1 has 2GB memory and #2 has 8GB memory. I installed a new 1TB SSHD hard drive in Mac #2. I downloaded OS X Marericks to Mac #1 and made a bootable USB. I put the USB drive into Mac #2, hold down the option key and start up. My install Mavericks usb comes up and i click on it, it brings up the next window properly and i go to disk utilities and formated the new hard drive properly. I than click on install OS X Marericks, the next window comes up and I click on continue. The next window comes up, and instead of being able to click continue again, there is a message that says OS X Mavericks requires 2GB memory or greater and a button to click that says Quit. This is the Mac that has 8GB memory ???????
I put the bootable OS XMavericks USB in Mac #1 with only 2GB memory and it works fine. Both Macs are mid 2009 and both work fine.
Anyone have a clue to what the problem may be??

Could be Apple is locking the Mavericks install to the system it is downloaded TO. Not sure as I only have one Mac that has Mavericks installed and I have no desire to install it on my Mini.
Why not just download Mavericks to the other Mac?

  • Mavericks won't install after accidentally deleting recovery partition on 10.6.8

I have been searching for hours for a solution and found none.
Essentially, I was running 10.8 on my MBA which originally came with 10.6. Wishing to perform a clean install of Mavericks, I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. Installing Mavericks would then always crash midway; so eventually I reinstalled my original OS from the bootable disc from apple. Then I figure I had to create a bootable disc for Mavericks, which I did, and the result is the same, the installation crashes midway.
Any other way I could install 10.9?
    Thanks

Mavericks creates a recovery partition while installing.
So, no previous recovery partition needed.
But playing whith partitions could be a mess.
    Try a clean reinstall.
