Mavericks/Yosemite - Mouse cursor gets stuck

This bug has been annoying me since I bought my MBP last summer.  Please Apple, fix this already.
I made a video to show what I mean - http://youtu.be/DQCF9qDz_20
Thanks

Contact Apple ASAP, create a case either via a Genius bar appointment or via support.
https://www.apple.com/support/contact/
If it is one year old it will be close to the end of it's standard 1 year warranty, beyond that you will need to have AppleCare (some countries have longer standard warranties).
Safe mode should rule out third party drivers & software, but safe mode is generally 'laggy' anyway because the graphics is running in a very limited mode.
You could also try booting into recovery mode to see if that does the same thing - that could help point to the issue being in hardware. Hold cmd+R at startup & see if the cursor is better in that mode.
P.S.
Try disabling the Bluetooth so that two devices are not trying to control the cursor. I find that wireless devices can occasionally have interference from nearby devices so try moving the laptop to a new location & retest away from the mouse. If it is a custom USB receiver for the mouse remove that too, along with any other USB devices etc.

  • Acer Aspire E3-112 Mouse Cursor Gets Stuck on Screen - Touchpad Unresponsive

Hi guys. I just bought a Windows 8.1 Acer Aspire E3-112-C6YY from Officeworks a week ago. It was the last one left in any store near me. It's been great so far but just last night when I unplugged my USB mouse, I noticed the touchpad stopped responding and the mouse cursor wouldn't move. My partner pressed Fn + F7 then pressed it again and it started working again and was fine until earlier today. The mouse/touchpad randomly 'gets stuck' and even completely stops working and I have to 'turn it on and off again' with those function keys. Sometimes it doesn't work immediately and is still stuck for a couple of seconds. This is happening every 5 minutes or so now. I'm worried it will stop working all together. The USB mouse doesn't do this so I think it's more of the touchpad itself not responding more than anything else. I'm not sure if this is a software issue as the laptop is brand new and everything should be up to date (I've been installing every new Windows Update that comes along) or if it's a hardware issue - I have Acer 1 year warranty but not sure if there's a simple fix for this rather than getting it sent off as my uni semester starts next week and I need it. I've been treating it gently, I don't leave it on all the time, I haven't dropped it or modified it in any way and I can't really take it back as this was the last model and I really like this laptop. Please help. Thanks

In this case, you are advised to reinstall touchpad drivers and check if that work. To do this, follow the steps below:
    1. Go to http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers
    2. Type Aspire E3-112 in the box below "Search by Product Model" and click "Search".
    3. Once your product details are displayed on the screen, click "Driver" tab and download the latest touchpad drivers for your model. If you are not aware of which type of touchpad drivers (ELANTECH or Synaptics) you need to install, you are advised to refer to the computer's user manual for details.
    4. Follow on-screen instructions. If the issue still persists, you are advised to take it back to the seller or contact your nearest Acer service center through the following link for further assistance:

Does the problem still occur in Safe Mode?
Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.

  • Why is my screen going grey and then white and cursor gets stuck

Hi there, why would my screen be going grey with pixels on it and then completely white and the cursor gets stuck and then disappears.
I have to click scroller a number of times for it to start working again.  When it does the screen colour change from grey to white the writing on the screen disappears aswell.

Could be a graphics chip issue.  If the machine is newer than October 2011, boot with the 'D' key on its own.  Otherwise find the original installer discs, or use this tip to find the age of the machine to make sure you can get the right hardware test with the 'D' key boot.   You can either call AppleCare for the original discs, or see if it is available from this link:

  • When scrolling bookmarks the cursor gets stuck on a bookmark and stays there even if I continue to move the cursor but does not happen if I slide to the subfolder.

I am using a MacBook running OS 10.5.8 and using Firefox 3.6.10. When I scroll down my list of bookmarks the cursor will highlight a bookmark and although I continue to move the cursor the previously mentioned bookmark remains highlighted and the subfolder remains open. If I try to choose another bookmark, when I click the bookmarks disappear and I must reselect bookmarks again. The only way to select the bookmark I want is to carefully scroll down the edge of the bookmark folder an move the cursor into the bookmark. This does not occur when I get into a subfolder.

Deleted it, restarted it. tried it again. no change. repeated the whole cycle. no change. thinking about uninstalling and reinstalling, but that won't reallyk change the settings.

  • Mouse cursor is stuck top left corner of screen.  It will not move.  Tried both my Bluetooth mouse, and a USB mouse. Not moving but will click

Tried un pairing the Bluetooth mouse and reconnecting it.  No change.  Tried both those resets people suggested to others in the forums, that didn't help either.  Borrowed my friends USB mouse for his Mac, the same thing.  Cursor will not move, but the click works.(this is what is happening for both)
If you are kind enough to offer help, please be aware of the following: this is my first Mac.  I really know nothing about them.

Yes, once when I first noticed it, and each time I tried both the pram reset, and when I did the other reset (holding down p&r and the other two buttons before the grey screen, and waited for it to reboot from there).  Can't remember what that reset was called

I'm revisiting this thread because this was attributed to phantom touch, and the firmware that we came out with in Oct to address the phantom touch issues.   Conversation on this thread died out before the fix came out.

  • Mouse lags or gets stuck

I brought a mac about 6 months ago. This problem started like 2 weeks ago, my mouse pointer gets stuck or lags and I have to move it fast to get it back to normal. It is a software issue because I tried with different mouses and the same happens. It always happen and as I said before I have to move it fast around the screen to get it back to normal but after some seconds the same happens. It happens with all kinds of apps and even when I start. It happens when I don't have any app opened and I have no start up apps. It even happens with low cpu apps like chrome or safari, also with word or logic and ableton. It gets really annoying because sometimes I click on the wrong spot. I have Mac mavericks and the computer is an Imac 27 2014. Maybe a formatting of mavericks will fix it? or is there any other way?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Mouse getting stuck in scrolling function in scroll boxes

Hi, as the title says, occasionally the cursor gets stuck in scroll mode, where i can't move the cursor independently, the window just scrolls when i move the trackpad up/down. This only happens with the trackpad on my macbook, but when i use a mouse, there aren't any problems. I'm guessing it's just a function I don't know about that I accidentally activate, but I can't find it!
any help is appreciated! thanks, joe

Try going to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Trackpad and then unclick "Ignore Accidental Trackpad Input." That might fix your problem. It fixed mine when the same thing was happening to me.
    Zeb
EDIT: Just beware that it WILL pick up "accidental trackpad input" when you turn that off. So when typing, try not to get your hands too close to the trackpad.

  • Mouse Getting Stuck

Hey there everyone. I recently bought a black Macbook (about a month ago), and lately I've noticed the mouse randomly getting "stuck" every now and then. This problem used to occur when I brought the Macbook out of sleep, but now it seems to be happening at random intervals, and it's really getting on my nerves. The trackpad will just become unresponsive unless I FORCIBLY push hard on it, at which point the mouse will move a little bit, and I'll have to keep waving my finger around for a few minutes until the mouse responds.
When I pay nearly $2000 for a computer, I don't think it's fair that I have to deal with problems like this. If anyone has any solution, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I'll bring it in to the Apple store, though I have so much software and files on this computer I don't want to have to try to transfer everything unless I REALLY have to. Thanks in advance!

  • No mouse cursor during Windows 8.1 OSD

    Hi,
I have a problem that is bugging me. Not really a biggie but a frustrating one.
When deploying Windows 8.1 using a MDT 2013 TS from CM12R2 the mouse cursor gets disabled when the OS reboots into minisetup/windows.
As long as the TS is in WinPE all is fine, but once rebooted the cursor goes away and comes back only when the TS completes.
The mouse is enabled as I can fool around with it and find where it is by clicking like a madman until a window gets highlighted.
Deploying different DELL workstations/laptops, all with the same symptom.
    BR /T

To my knowledge this is simply because of the Z-ordering of the windows during Windows setup.
The question though is why does it matter? You shouldn't be doing anything interactive a this point in the TS.

I am desperate, I have tried everything I know of, but no luck.
My mouse cursor is stuck above the lower left corner of my screen. When I move the mouse, the cursor moves and as soon as I stop, the cursor goes back to the same position。

Is there something else I can do?
    Thank you for your help.

Ok, that would be the Mighty mouse.
So what settings do you have here:
    System Preferences: Mouse
How about System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad
    Screensaver> Hot Corners?
For hot corner info, see this video:
