MAX 4.5 corrupted by DAQmx 14.1 patial installation

Hi,
I am posting this on the LabVIEW board because I can't find one specifically related to MAX issues.
I have a machine with two oldish USB devices working with a LabVIEW 8.2 application, with DAQmx 8.7.  OS is Windows XP.  The software started throwing up errors, and MAX (v4.5) was struggling to connect to both devices.  I was seeing error -50405.  After some research it seems that there may be some issue with the USB connection.  There was also advice to install a newer version of DAQmx, as this may have better USB fault tolerance.
I downloaded & started to install the latest DAQmx, V14.1.  Part way through I relaised that this does not support LabVIEW 8.2, and I do not have the time or inclination just now to drag the code into V2014.  So I cancelled the DAXmx installation part way through.  Maybe this was a mistake.
I now cannot run MAX at all.  Part way through the initialisation it crashes, and Windows wants to investigate the error.  I assume that something from DAQmx 14.1 is incompatible with MAX 4.5.
I cannot uninstall DAQmx 14.1.  It does not appear in the list of PI software in the Control Panel - Add or Remove Software tool.  I have repaied DAQmx 8.7 several times, and MAX 4.5 as well.  I have trawled through the registry and the executable folder for MAX to manually remove anything I can find from 14.1.
The LabVIEW tool still works, but I cannot start MAX.  I will need to fix this in the next few weeks as the sensor calibrations are handled through MAX.
Any ideas?  What other information / log files would be useful to help diagnose this?  All information very gratefully received.
Ian

Thanks all for your suggestions.  I had already tried Repairing various installations (DAXmx, MAX) with no change in behaviour.
I tried the /reinstall option with DAQmx 8.7, but this did not fix the issue.
I have tried to create a VI to save the configuration to an NCE file.  I get error -2147467263 Not Implemented with the Copy Config command, and when I tried the Make Report tool I get the same MAX error, so calls to the MAX API are also not working.
I am concerned about using the Repair Database tool as I don't wat to risk losing the calibrations just now.
Does anyone know where MAX stores the calibration data, and if this can be recovered manually?
I am now re-installing DAQmx 14.1, so I can then fully uninstall it, and hope that it will fully remove itself from the system.  If nothing else I might get a newer verison of MAX so that I can backup all the system settings before attempting anything more drastic.
Thanks again, and any more ideas will be gratefully received.

  • Why can't I install virtual devices in NI-Max with windows 7 and DAQmx 8.7.1

    Hi all!
I just got some new machines running Windows7 32 bit. The old ones didn't survive a fire, the DAQ devices were resqued. After I installed DAQmx 8.7.1 including NI-MAX I found out that my device (PCI-6014) wasn't displayed in the device section. The device was however displayed in the windows hardware section!!
I also wasn't able to setup a virtual device other than some RTSI-cable. NI-MAX version is 4.1.1.
I cannot use a newer version of DAQmx as I have to work with LabView 7.1.
Another machine, same windows7 and same DAQmx didn't give me this problem, so what could possibly be wrong? Can't use this machine as it has no high PCI slots in it....
    Regards,
    Ronald

I think you're right about that one, I should have upgraded every time when I got the new CD's. On the other hand, I developed some way in reusing quite a lot of my work. So I only have to update these vi's in order to get my programs running again I guess. The nice thing of it is that this would be the perfect opportunity to go through my work of the past 7 years and look what's really needed and what can be thrown in the bin.
About the LV7.1 version: You're right. NI allows you to use them besides your new versions. I think I've got to play a little around with my virtual machines in order to get multiple versions (and multiple DAQmx versions) running aside of each other. Lucky for me is that a lot of analysis is done after the DAQ has been done!!
    Thanks,
    Bye

  • In Max 3.1.1 no daqmx device works with its test panel or self test

I have a NI-5122 device and since loading DAQ 7.3 no DAQmx device appears to work.

The NI-DAQ installer provides all the files necessary for MAX to detect the NI-5112, but not for the NI-5122. The NI-5122 will not show up in MAX until NI-SCOPE is installed.

  • "file corrupt" error message when running full installer - normal installer won't work either.

I was having serious problems displaying images/video, so uninstalled so I could reinstall. Big mistake - ever since I've done this, FF absolutely won't install. The normal install .EXE(I'm using Windows 7) always gets to about a millimeter to the left in the status bar of where it crosses from "downloading" to "installing." I then tried the full installer in all 3 versions of English, all of which simply pop up a window saying "file is corrupt" with no explanation or options. Please help. I work from home and absolutely have to use FF as my browser for my job, and I'm missing an entire shift today because of it. Thanks!

    You're welcome

  • How to include DAQmx device drivers in installer (LV 7.1)

    Hi,
We would like to build an installer that packages all required device drivers and does NOT require a separate installation from the DAQmx device driver CD.
    How can we do this?
LV : 7.1 with Application Builder
    H/W : USB-6009
    DAQmx : 8.0
Presently, we use the DAQmx device driver CD (that accompanied the USB-6009) to install the drivers. We do not want to do it this way because:
    1) It makes the installation a two-step process - (a) install DAQmx from device driver CD (b) install our application
    2) It installs a lot of drivers which are not required by our application.

    Hello Gurdas,
This question of yours brings up an issue we addressed when we released LabVIEW 8.0.  In LabVIEW 8.x and later, you have the option to package multiple additional installers with your application installer.
The issue you are having is limited by LabVIEW 7.1, as it is capable of including only one additional installer.  However, if you would like to create an installer in LabVIEW 7.1 and have it launch multiple additional installers, your only option is to create a batch file and have the LabVIEW 7.1 installer call this batch file.
We have KnowledgeBases available to explain this issue and the topic of creating batch files.  Here are a few of these documents:

  • Corrupt HD, with Snow Leopard - no installation disk

    Hi,
I'm just preparing my 18month old i7 iMac running Snow Leopard to be upgraded to Lion.  A tip I saw said run the disk utility to check your disk prior to upgrading, which I did.  It failed with "The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired". It seems to be running OK, so I'm sure its nothing too serious, but nonetheless, I'd like to try and get it running 100% prior to upgrade
    Full error:
    Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
    Performing live verification.
    Checking Journaled HFS Plus volume.
    Checking extents overflow file.
    Checking catalog file.
Missing thread record (id = 4514652)
    Incorrect number of thread records
    Checking multi-linked files.
    Checking catalog hierarchy.
    Invalid volume file count
(It should be 702975 instead of 702976)
    Checking extended attributes file.
    Checking volume bitmap.
    Checking volume information.
The volume Macintosh HD was found corrupt and needs to be repaired.
Error: This disk needs to be repaired. Start up your computer with another disk (such as your Mac OS X installation disc), and then use Disk Utility to repair this disk.
I know I have to reboot my Mac to repair it, but here's the issue - I cannot find my installation disc (if my new mac actually came with one?)
Any ideas on the best way of proceeding please?
    Thanks,
    Darren.

    Darren,
You will need to either locate the original Install Discs or replace them. If you have to replace them call AppleCare  and let them know what you need, you will need the serial number and a credit card to proceed. The cost is nominal fortunately. As with all original media you should always keep it in safe place where you can easily find it. You never know when it will be needed.
After repairing the HD if it continues to report errors you should plan on replacing the HD. One thing I'd STRONGLY recommend is backing up your system prior to upgrading to Lion. I'd also recommend following the safeguards described in this Update Process link.

  • Corrupted font on uninstall Air Native Installer

Currently having an issue where the font on the unistall screen of a Native Air installer is either completly missing or is corrupted. Have also noticed on some machines the font unistall text is displayed without issues. The three states are coming from the sames installer copied/tested on multiple machine. The Air application Installer is build with Flash Builder 4.0.1 and we are using the Flex SDK version 4.1 running on a Windows 7 machine.

    Hello,
I'm sorry you're running into issues with the installer.  Would you mind opening a new bug for this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  Please include screenshots illustrating the problem and your installer.  If you'd like to keep your app private, please feel free to email me at [email protected] and I can attach it for internal viewing only.

  • MAX corrupt? error -88302, odd DAQmx device list

My ATE stopped working Sunday morning with an error (I didn't witness it) that led me to a corrupt NI-DMM driver.  I've had this happen a few times before so I repaired it (in MAX).  This didn't fix my ATE.  The sequence of events gets fuzzy here, but at some point stepping through the TestStand sequence helped me find that the PXI-2570 wasn't operating.  I had an error message that suggested that the MAX database was corrupt, so I deleted the Data directory and restarted without without resolving my problem.
The configuration in MAX shows a difference between this ATE and an equivalent system:
Notice that there's no green glyph near the PXI-2570.  That's what I'm focusing on now.  Also, why does that device not appear in the tree on the left?  It does in its sister ATE.  I swapped the card with a known-good one and it didn't improve.
I reinstalled DAQmx 8.9.5f7 because researching another error (-88302) suggested that would help.  It didn't.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

You're entirely bonkers. But I'll tell you a secret. All the best people are. ~ Alice

    Hey Jim,
You are correct that the PXI-2570 modules should show up under DAQmx devices.  This leads me to believe that the DAQmx driver isn't installed correctly.  One possibility is that you have two different versions of DAQmx installed in different locations on your machine (yes, this is possible .  DAQmx isn't designed to work with concurrent instances and is likely confused, thus failing to load the 2570... alas, this theory isn't bulletproof, as the DAQmx 6233 is correctly picked up, but all bets are off when there's multiple DAQmx drivers installed.
My initial recommendation is to remove all DAQmx installations, verify that there's no 'DAQmx' versions installed in MAX, and then reinstall the original DAQmx version on your ATE... no need to change the SW.  If this doesn't work, the easiest troubleshooting step to get back up and running is to image the ATE from another machine.  Of course, this doesn't determine the root cause, but I'd suspect there was a software configuration change.  In this case, error 88302 is an internal NI-ORB error and shouldn't be reported to the user in the first place... so I'd say something is bonkers with your DAQmx install.

  • System crash when DAQmx call to USB DAQ device is powered off

My PC crashes when I attempt communication with a NI DAQPad 6015 USB device which is in the powered off state. I am attempting to add error handling to my LabView application to cover the above condition, however, instead of receiving a error message, my PC crashes. When the device is powered on, my LabView routine works properly. I created the vi using the DAQmx DAQ assistant for a simple analog read from the device. I want to add the potential error handling condition to cover the case in which a user may attempt to run the software without turning on the device. When I attempted to run my vi twice with the device powered off, my PC crashed both times. The 2nd time, during reboot, I discovered that MAX was corrupted and had to repair using the installation CD.
I am using LabView 7.1 with DAQ 7.4 on Windows 2000.
Is there a known fix or workaround to this issue? Or is there a way to detect the presence of the device first before trying a DAQ read?
    Thanks,
    Joel

Thanks very much for both your responses. I tried it again, but as you suggested, I used one of the example vi's. I chose the following:
Acq&GraphVoltage-IntClk.vi found within: Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Analog Measurements >> Voltage
I first tested the example vi with my DAQPad-6015 powered on. The vi successfully ran without error. I then turned the DAQPAd power off and ran the vi again. My system immediately crashed leaving me with a blank screen (with streaky lines) and forcing me to reboot. After reboot, I discovered that I can no longer open any of the DAQmx examples that are compatible with the DAQPad-6015. All are corrupted. Curiously, MAX was not corrupted again. I will have to re-install all examples and possibly LabView itself.
Based on your feedback, I am guessing you will tell me that repeating the above on your system will simply produce an error message, as expected. It appears that I may have a fundamental incompatibility between my specific system hardware and DAQmx/LabView.

    Joel

  • How to install the NI-DAQmx driver on a real time target PC?

Hi, I’m painful about how I can install a PCI-6363 DAQmx on my real time desktop PC target. The PCI-6363 is directly connected to the real time PC. And I’m using LabVIEW 2011 and MAX 5.0.
The DAQmx device driver can be seen in software lIst in the host PC, but it can not be found in the install wizard. Is there something wrong with my host PC? or is that wrong to connect PCI-6363 with real time desktop PC?
I would be grateful for any advice that I could get here.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi Zhleo,
If you are about to use the PCI-6363 with the Real-Time Desktop you are right you need to have it installed, and then you need to deploy DAQmx driver software to the real-time target.
To do that you access your real-time desktop under Remote Systems in MAX and start the Real-Time Software Wizard. There you should see DAQmx listed.
In case you do not have DAQmx listed there, see this KB: Deploying DAQmx to a Real-Time Controller or PC?

  • Duplicating a CTR Global Virtual Channel in MAX does not update the CO.Pulse.Term setting

    Hi,
    Here is the issue description:
    MAX version: 4.6.2f1
    daqmx:  9.0.2
    Hardware: cDAQ-9178 , NI-9474 Digital output.
    For this module one has:
    crt 0 out  <--> PFI3
    ctr 1 out  <--> PFI7
    crt 2 out  <--> PFI1
    ctr 3 out  <--> PFI5
    1. In MAX create a Global Virtual Channel as a CTR output on ctr0.
    2. use the Duplicate in the menu to create a second counter output. Change its name, and change it ctr output to ctr 1 OUT.
    3. In MAX, the Pulse Output Setup pane should reflect the change by showing the ouput terminal pointing to the proper PFIi
    4. Export the settings to an INI file, and look at the CO.Pulse.Term settings for both CTR channels: they will both appear with the SAME PFIi !
    5. Using LabVIEW Write a vi that generate pulses on these 2 channels , you will get Error -89137 saying a PFIi resource is already used. If you look at the Task property CO.Pulse.Terminal, it returns the same for both tas, which is the same error seen in the ini file.
Can someone at NI check this? Thx.
    Laurent
PS: I posted this message in the LabVIEW board as I did not find one for MAX

    Hi Laurent,
I verified this behavior with DAQmx 9.1 and a simulated device.  I will file this as a Corrective Action Request (CAR). Creating the channels manually works correctly and produces the correct .ini file.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • MAX unexpected error

    Hi there,
I have the following installed onto my machine (Windows 7 32-bit, 4GB RAM)
    1) LabVIEW 2010 SP1
    2) MAX 5.0
    3) NI-DAQmx 9.2.3
    I have also a PCIe-6361 installed.
When I tried to open the Test Panel in MAX for the PCIe-6361, the Test Panel does not appear. Then, when I right-click the PCIe-6361 >> and click Properties, MAX threw an error saying that it has encountered an "unknown" error. MAX then shuts down by itself.
The error logs are attached here.
I have tried to repair MAX and DAQmx, but the result is still the same. Does anyone has any idea what could be the cause?
    Thanks and Best regards,
    Victor

  • Freeze in MAX 4.1

    When I installed DAQmx 8.3, I also upgraded from MAX 4.0 to 4.1 .
MAX 4.1 freezes after I run it once, close it & run it a 2nd time.
On this 2nd time, the splash screen appears & the application locks
up. Interestingly enough, I can still run other programs (I'm using IE
right now to write this message).
Any way to fix this ? Is there some repair utility ? How would I re-install MAX 4.1 ?
I loaded a few driver installation CDs & viewed the MAX directory but it doesn't seem to allow me to down-grade to MAX 4.0 .
    ak

    Hi ak,
You can repair Measurement and Automation Explorer by going to the Control Panel > Add Remove Programs > National Instruments Software > Click on Change > Click on Measurement and Automation Explorer in the list that shows up and select "repair".  You also have the option of uninstalling it using this method, which will also ask you uninstall all the dependant software.  The MAX software is automatically installed with drivers such as DAQmx and NI-488.2.

  • No more SC-2040 in DAQMX 8. 1 ??

    hello all,
I'm currently in a process to port my daq software (lw-cvi) to DAQMX
(formerly: traditional NI-DAQ) and had already finished some parts,
    but still problems.
so I decided to upgrade to DAQMX 8.1, but now, I noticed, that the
SC-2040 S/H amplifier which I used for simultaneous scanning with
E-series boards, seems no longer available in MAX 4.0.3 (from DAQMX 8.1) as an accessory for my new M-series board (PCI-6250).
anyone knows what's going on here ?
    thanks.
Once the game is over, the king and the pawn go back into the same box.

The SC-2040 didn't work properly in NI-DAQmx 8.0 when only configured in MAX. The PCI-6143 simultaneously sampling DAQ board is a much better choice than a combination of an M-Series board and a SC-2040 so the decision was made to remove it from the list of  accessories in NI-DAQmx 8.1
Still it's possible to work with the SC-2040 and an M-Series board with NI-DAQmx 8.1. Instead of configuring the SC-2040 as an accessory you can add some function calls to your code to export and configure the necessary timing signals for the board. Please refer to this document in the NI knowledge base for a detailed description.
