Max application memory Limit in iPad 4th?

Is there material to talk about it? what is max memory limit for application running on iPad 4th?

If you have to ask, you're doing it wrong.

  • Hitting iMovie 'application memory' limit on MacBook Air when sharing to file)

    Hi Folks,
I'm running iMovie 10.0.1 on a 2011 MacBook Air (2x2 GB DIMM capacity), with Mavericks. I now have 3 edited HD projects there, varying in length from 26 min to 37 min.
I'm able to 'share' any two of these to MP4  files (on an external drive), but I only get two thirds though sharing the third project when I hit an 'application memory' limit, at which point everything freezes.(The same thing happens when sharing to 'Theatre').
I notice that all three projects and their associated 'Events'  'load' when I select 'Projects' in the library (presumably from the external drive to the iMovie application on the MacBook Air drive).
Is there some way to restrict this loading of everything in the library to a single selected project and associated event? Maybe I should move the whole app to the external drive?
Apple tells me that I can't double the DIMMS to the 2013 8 GB level.
    Cheers,
    Alan
(PS How would you like to be playing tennis in the Aussie Open - it's 44 degrees here today!).

    G'day again Geoff,
I did as you suggested above, viz, isolated the remaining event and project from those that have successfully shared (rendered) earlier, by segregating the latter to a separate library in an external drive, leaving only the target event and project on the MBA's flash drive's iMovie library. (My 2011 Air has 4 GB of non-upgradeable RAM).
I confirmed that there were no other apps running, tidied up with  'CleanMyMac', 'MemoryClean' and 'DiskDoctor', and again tried sharing the remaining HD project to file (and later, to Theatre), but as before, iMovie quit halfway through, with a 'run out of application memory' message.
I then tried sharing to file at progressively lower resolutions, but unexpectedly, this didn't help.
Even though an earlier project of similar size (about 30 min) from the same event shared to file successfully, at full HD, I'm making no headway with this one. It 'plays' normally when opened in iMovie, but........?
What haven't I thought of here?
    Cheers,
    Alan
PS We wound the temperature back for Andy Murray, just to help him along into the quarter finals. He's on his own from here against (probably) one of Rafael Nadal, Novak Jokavic and Roger Federer. All four are very popular here (but I'd like to see Andy notch up a grand slam win here in Melbourne. (A little colonial loyalty perhaps?)

  • Application memory limit

If I have and application with one database how much RAM get's allocated to it?
I think it was 2GB on 32bit but I am on 64bit platform. Is it still 2GB?
Does this mean that 2GB is all my calc scripts will get in this app? I am concerned because 50 calcs may kick off simultaneously.
    ER

I think in the 32 bit world, the limit was 4 gigabytes.
In 64 bit, it's a brave new world.
BSO settings are still limited to what looks like 4 gigabytes. See the MEMSCALINGFACTOR setting in the Essbase config file for more information.

What's inconsistent is that the DBAG suggests the limit is 2 gigabytes for caches. See limits. Search this board or Network54 and you'll see that 4 is the right number.

  • Max-shm-memory (Solaris 11.1)

I wonder if someone can give a definitive answer on this, or point me to somewhere that does?
If I have a 64GB RAM server running Solaris 11.1 that will run a single Oracle instance, what is the correct setting to make for max-shm-memory?
Should it be 64GB, or something a bit smaller? Or something a lot smaller?
I have read the installation documentation, but it gives examples of 2gb, 4gb and so on. They don't seem relevant to a 64GB+ server

Thank you, but that document doesn't answer my questions.
Specifically, it states at one point that "project.max-shm-memory=(privileged,51539607552,deny); ... sets a limit of 48GB per shared memory segment" (which is true, as far as I understand it). But it then goes on to say in the next breath that "The project.max-shm-memory limit is the __total__ shared memory size for your project. -- ie maximum total of all your segments.". Which, to my mind, contradicts its first statement.
The article then also goes on to give an example where "This system has 8GB of memory..." and shows the author setting "projmod -s -K "project.max-shm-memory=(privileged,4GB,deny)" 'user.oracle'"... so are we to deduce that you should set max-shm-memory to 50% of your physically-available RAM? Or not??
I had actually read this before I posted. It's the same sort of document I see over and over on this subject: lots of examples, some contradictory, but none stating what principles should govern the setting of max-shm-memory, and none stating what the consequences of (for example) allocating 100% of physically available RAM as max-shm-memory would be.
So thank you for the reference, but my question still stands: can someone provide a definitive answer on what the setting here should be? It's a 64GB server and will run nothing but Oracle database, with a single instance. max-shm-memory should be set to.... what, exactly?

  • How to Determine Safe Max Memory Limit?

From what I understand, the amount of memory available to your AIR game on a device will vary depending on how many other apps the user is running, the type of device, etc.
So with this in mind, how does one define a safe max memory limit for a given device? What percentage of a device's total RAM can we assume we have access to?
Here are the iOS RAM Specs
    iPod (4th Gen): 128Mb.
    iPad 1: 256 MB
iPad 2, iPod Touch (5th Gen): 512 MB
    iPad3: 1 GB
I already have highly optimized texture atlases using PVRTC ATF for best use of memory, but if you've ever worked with a passionate creative department, you'll know they always want more. I need to be able to tell them exactly how many spritesheets they have to work with for a given device - how would I do this?
NOTE: iPhones/iPod Touches/iPads all have a Unified Memory Architecture which mean that both the CPU and GPU share system memory, which means there is no dedicated GPU GRAM on these devices. So the RAM listed above, I assume, is shared by both the game logic and the GPU.

Update, I've found an Objective C post on Stack Overflow that answers this question
Here are the (rough) max memory limits to expect before an out-of-memory crash will occur:
    iPad1: 127MB/256MB (crash amount/total amount)
    iPad2: 275MB/512MB
    iPad3: 645MB/1024MB
    iPhone4: 325MB/512MB
Note that max memory limit will vary depending on how many apps a user is running, but these figures are a good rough guide. See the Stack Overflow post for more details.

  • /etc/profile: line 28: ulimit: max locked memory: cannot modify limit: Oper

    Hi;
I writed one sh which is checking tablespace size and its working well ( i used this before for someother client) Now i try to run it on one server and i have this error:
/etc/profile: line 28: ulimit: max locked memory: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted in /var/spool/mail/root
Anyone has idea what is problem?
    Thanks

Well, check line 28 of /etc/profile, and see what command it is trying to execute. If it's a ulimit -l command, check if the value it is trying to set the limit to is higher than the current ulimit value of the current user. If it is, then that operation is not allowed. You can increase the limit for the current user (at login time) by modifying /etc/security/limits.conf . This is documented in the various guides, notes, whitepapers that talk about installing Oracle database on Linux.

  • Finding CachedRowSet max. memory limit

    Hi,
I am using a CachedRowSet for storing data got from a ResultSet. I understand that there is a memory limit on the amount of data the CachedRowset can hold.
I would like to know how to determine the maximum size of data the CachedRowSet can hold ?
    Thanks,
    Shashi.

That depends on many things. Experiment with it if you must.
But if your result sets are so large memory use is an issue, try to find a better approach.
The best way is not to need the results in memory at the same time. Process each row as it comes in if you can.
Or if you need the result set in memory (try not to need it!) don't use CachedRowSet. Instead convert the rows into real Java objects. They are likely to be smaller, faster, you get object oriented programming, access control, looser coupling, independence of data source which can help reusability, ...
I've never used CachedRowSet. My gut reaction to it is "hmm, is that a code smell..."

  • What is the maximum size of the application to download to iPad via GSM. Is it 20 Mb? Is it possible to change this parameter?

What is the maximum size of application to download to iPad via GSM. Is it 20 Mb? Does exist any possibility to change this parameter? In the towm where I live there is lack of wifi and the only possibiluty to download something from Apple Store is to use GSM/3G.

It has partly to do with the carrier.  From what I've summized from reviews & feedback online is since Apple iPhone was the most advanced phone on the market when it was initially released the carriers were concerned about using up bandwidth with the apps & movie downloads so a limit was intially set for 10mb max on 3G connection.  Later apple raised the limit, against the carrier's advice, to 20mb max.
The interesting part is the limitation doesn't exist on Android phone when they also have large apps & movies which are available for download & they use the same networks the iPhone uses!  So why are the iPhone users still limited to the amount they can download at once while the Android users are not.  They pay the same for thier data plans, if not less in some cases, that iPhone users do!

  • Mavericks Mail Kernel System Has Run Out of Application Memory

I have a new Mavericks late 2013 MBP.  When I got the computer, I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything from my late 2008 MacBook to the new MBP.  Now when I launch Mail, my memory use skyrockets and within a minute or so, I get a "run out of application memory" error message.  Soon after the computer stops working until I reboot.  Activity Monitor shows Memory Pressure at its redline max, Virtual Memory at about 70 GB, Swap Used 20 GB, Compressed 10 MB.  The processes using all the memory are kernel-task 10 GB and mds_stores 5 GB.  However, Spotlight is fully indexed and mds is inactive until I launch Mail.
Interestingly, it happens even if I quit Mail immediately after launching it - the Mail window doesn't even need to open; the memory ust still climbs.  But it only happens with Mail; all other applications work fine.  Also, it does not happen if I boot in Safe Mode or if I log in using a different user account.
I have spend many hours on the phone with the Apple tech guys, they sent log files to Apple engineering, and none can figure this out.  Their solution is to work around by creating a new user and transfer files over - not an elegant solution...
I ran the diagnostic suggested by Link Davis; results copied below. I also ran the Etresoft diagnostic both before and after launching Mail.  Results also copied below.
I am guessing that a 3rd party application in my user area causes Spotlight to loose control, when Mail is launched, perhaps trying to index 10,000 emails, but I really have no idea!
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Have you looked into Activity Monitor utility to see what system resources exist and how they are being allocated to applications, the OS X, and other background functions?
You could boot in SafeBoot (shift key held through startup) and run Disk Utility> repair disk permissions. That can tell you a few things about your hard disk drive, capacities, and it may not hurt to repair disk permissions. Restart normally when done.
Or try & boot from the Install DVD and use the version of Disk Utility in there to attempt to 'repair disk' while the HDD is unmounted. Then choose Startup manager to boot from the HDD and ignore the DVD on a restart.
Is your computer as listed, a PowerPC (pre-intel architecture)
Apple product, with a G4/G5 CPU from before 2006? If so,
a host could move the discussion from this Intel area.
Without more information, a failure of traction results from speculation.
Is your computer still running OS X 10.5.3, or is that 10.5.8+ now?
    Good luck & happy computing!

My hard drive has 70.93 GB available, yet when i have more than one internet tab open, i have to force quit google chrome because 'there is no more available application memory'. How can I solve this? I have a 2009 macbook pro running on 10.6.8. I have tried updating to mavericks through the mac app store but after it downloading for a day i got an error message saying there was a problem with the download. The same thing happens if i try to update itunes or the mac app store. After research, i have also tried repairing disk permissions, but every time they do get repaired the 'repair' button still appears, i'm not sure if it's because it was unable to repair the initial problems or if it just keeps detecting new ones.

2 GBs is a minimum in which you can do many things, but not concurrently. Be very careful to not install third-party add-ons, limit the number of applications you choose to enter in Login Items, run as few applications concurrently as you demand.
I would consider adding more RAM to your computer. Your model supports 8 GBs, so I would install that.

  • New iMac27" OS 10.9.4 runs out of application memory

    I have a brand new iMac 27" with 1TB Flash drive, 16GB RAM, i7 processor 3.5Ghz
Although I only migrated the data files from an older iMac running Lion OS, I installed only a few apps fresh on the systems:MS office 2011, Skype, Chrome, Teamviewer and Firefox.
It was running for several days with only Mail and Safari open.
Time Machine was on for backup.
Suddenly it gave an error that application memory was full and the computer needed to restart.
    This is odd.

Seems odd that a brand new computer less than a week old would give this error.  Any suggestions?

There is excessive swapping of data between physical memory (that is, the memory chips on the logic board) and virtual memory (one or more files on the startup volume.) That activity is relatively slow and causes the whole system to be less responsive. It can happen for two reasons:
A long-running process with a memory leak (a kind of bug)
Not enough memory for your usage pattern
Tracking down a memory leak can be difficult, and it may come down to a process of elimination.
These instructions are for OS X 10.9 ("Mavericks.") The procedure may be slightly different for earlier versions of OS X.
When you notice the swap activity, open the Activity Monitor application and select All Processes from the View menu, if it's not already selected. Select the Memory tab. Click the heading of the Real Mem column in the process table twice to sort the table with the highest value at the top. If you don't see that column, select
View ▹ Columns ▹ Real Memory
    from the menu bar.
If one process (excluding "kernel_task") is using much more memory than all the others, that could be an indication of a leak. A better indication would be a process that continually grabs more and more real memory over time without ever releasing it. Here is an example of how it's done.
The processes named "Safari Web Content" render web pages for Safari. They use a lot of memory and may leak if certain Safari extensions or third-party web plugins are installed. Consider them prime suspects.
Another process often implicated in memory leaks is "inkjet4" or "inkjet8," which is a component of the HP printing software. If it's present, force-quit the process in Activity Monitor to solve the problem temporarily. Empty the print queues in the Printers & Scanners preference pane (which has a slightly different name in each recent version of OS X.) If you don't use an HP printer, remove the software. Otherwise, if the problem is recurrent, update the software (which may not help) or contact HP support.
"Wired" memory should be a small part of the total. That memory is not swapped, but it makes less physical memory available which may then result in swapping. If you have a lot of wired memory, that's usually an indication of a memory leak in a third-party program that modifies the operating system at a low level. Ask for guidance in that case.
If you don't have an obvious memory leak, your options are to install more memory (if possible) or to run fewer programs simultaneously.
The next suggestion is only for users familiar with the shell. For a more precise, but potentially misleading, test, run the following command:
sudo leaks -nocontext -nostacks process | grep total
where process is the name of a process you suspect of leaking memory. Almost every process will leak some memory; the question is how much, and especially how much the leak increases with time. I can’t be more specific. See the  leaks(1) man page and the Apple developer documentation for details.

  • "Your Mac OS X Startup Disk Has No More Space For Application Memory"

I've been having a problem in the last few days with my Mac. I would be surfing the net, or doing whatever, and an error message would randomly pop up on my screen. It would say: "_Your Mac OS X Startup Disk Has No More Space For Application Memory_". Then the dialog box would give me the option to PAUSE or *Force Quit* applications. But instead of letting me click these buttons, my Mac would just automatically freeze after the dialog box popped up!
The odd thing is, is that I truly was NOT using that much memory...much less than I usually do. Plus I have 4 GB of RAM, and I know I wasn't maxing it out.
Does anyone know why this error message would be popping up like this (especially since there was no way that I was using all my Application Memory)? And does anyone know why my Mac just freezes instantly when the error message pops up?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! It's quite hard use my Mac right now, since I never know when it's gonna freeze up on me!
    Thanks!

I assume that means no backups? That's a problem you need to fix next.
You might be able to start your Mac in "Target Disk Mode" while connected to the other Mac. You do this by holding down the "T" key while booting. And I was wrong: you must use Firewire, not USB.
The other Mac will see your HD as an external F/W drive. You may have to "mount" it via Disk Utility, if it doesn't show up on the desktop and/or Finder sidebar.
You probably need to do a lot of examining what's not needed, and perhaps some maintenance, but you don't want to do that under pressure.
To get it running and buy just a bit of time, your best bet is to copy some big stuff (like video) either to the other Mac's hard drive or to one or more DVDs, then delete it from your HD.
Once you get several GB free, you should be able to boot it. Then get started cleaning it up. There are many threads in this forum with links and suggestions for how to do this. Just search for +Disk Full.+
Did this happen all of a sudden? If so, it's possible you had some sort of runaway or continually failing process, filling up some logs and/or caches. If you don't do routine maintenance, either by clearing your browser cache, etc., manually, or via an app like OnyX, that's another thing you might want to investigate.

  • "Your Mac OSX startup disk has no more space available for application memory" - uploading files problem

    Hi everyone,
    I'm running a late-2012 27 inch iMac - 3.4GHz Intel Core i7, 32GB 1600 MHz DDR3 with the 3TB fusion drive, OS 10.8.4. At present there is 1.92TB of available storage.
I have received this message "Your Mac OSX startup disk has no more space available for application memory" just before a full on crash multiple times in the past couple of days whilst using WeTransfer to send over some large files (500MB+). The applications I have had open at the time have been: Activity Monitor, App Store, Firefox, and Finder. Over the course of uploading the files, the active system memory has gone from 1.04GB and steadily increased until it more or less maxes out around 29GB, at which point the Page Outs rocket up to around 40GB/s and the swap memory fills up pretty quickly until the computer basically can't take any more and blacks out.
This is a pretty new thing, haven't really had an issues before. My main software used: Sibelius 7 & Logic Pro X. I've also recently started working with Final Cut Pro X, which seems to have been struggling at points. I've tried closing everything, restarting the computer and not opening anything (specifically NOT FCPX) before attempting an upload. I've even gone so far as to remove FCPX from my system, and yet the problem is still recurring. Both "kernal_task" and "WindowServer" have been running high on CPU when these problems have occurred.
Does anyone know what might be the issue and how it could possibly be resolved?
Really appreciate any help, I'm in the middle of a fairly sizeable project and the deadlines are just around the corner.
    Thanks,
    Tom
