MAX corrupt? error -88302, odd DAQmx device list

My ATE stopped working Sunday morning with an error (I didn't witness it) that led me to a corrupt NI-DMM driver.  I've had this happen a few times before so I repaired it (in MAX).  This didn't fix my ATE.  The sequence of events gets fuzzy here, but at some point stepping through the TestStand sequence helped me find that the PXI-2570 wasn't operating.  I had an error message that suggested that the MAX database was corrupt, so I deleted the Data directory and restarted without without resolving my problem.
The configuration in MAX shows a difference between this ATE and an equivalent system:
Notice that there's no green glyph near the PXI-2570.  That's what I'm focusing on now.  Also, why does that device not appear in the tree on the left?  It does in its sister ATE.  I swapped the card with a known-good one and it didn't improve.
I reinstalled DAQmx 8.9.5f7 because researching another error (-88302) suggested that would help.  It didn't.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Jim

Hey Jim,
You are correct that the PXI-2570 modules should show up under DAQmx devices.  This leads me to believe that the DAQmx driver isn't installed correctly.  One possibility is that you have two different versions of DAQmx installed in different locations on your machine (yes, this is possible .  DAQmx isn't designed to work with concurrent instances and is likely confused, thus failing to load the 2570... alas, this theory isn't bulletproof, as the DAQmx 6233 is correctly picked up, but all bets are off when there's multiple DAQmx drivers installed.
My initial recommendation is to remove all DAQmx installations, verify that there's no 'DAQmx' versions installed in MAX, and then reinstall the original DAQmx version on your ATE... no need to change the SW.  If this doesn't work, the easiest troubleshooting step to get back up and running is to image the ATE from another machine.  Of course, this doesn't determine the root cause, but I'd suspect there was a software configuration change.  In this case, error 88302 is an internal NI-ORB error and shouldn't be reported to the user in the first place... so I'd say something is bonkers with your DAQmx install.

  • TS1538 My Classic Ipod (U2) edition is not recognized in the device list.  An error msg instructs me to restore factory setting on my device.  How can I do this if Ituns doesn't recognize it?

I've actually tried on both windows and Mac.  Itunes just freezes on both, and the devices is not listed in the device list.  I would restore the factory settings but, I can't get into itunes to do this.

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

    Hello,
I've just installed FieldPoint Driver 5.0 downloaded from NI website but the RLY 421 is still not in the device list ...
Before starting to develop I thought I should update my drivers so I got the latest FP Driver version, but since I'm still using LV 7.1 maybe I shall unistall FP Driver 5.0 and re-install 4.1 and see if it works  ?

  • Why can't I install virtual devices in NI-Max with windows 7 and DAQmx 8.7.1

    Hi all!
I just got some new machines running Windows7 32 bit. The old ones didn't survive a fire, the DAQ devices were resqued. After I installed DAQmx 8.7.1 including NI-MAX I found out that my device (PCI-6014) wasn't displayed in the device section. The device was however displayed in the windows hardware section!!
I also wasn't able to setup a virtual device other than some RTSI-cable. NI-MAX version is 4.1.1.
I cannot use a newer version of DAQmx as I have to work with LabView 7.1.
Another machine, same windows7 and same DAQmx didn't give me this problem, so what could possibly be wrong? Can't use this machine as it has no high PCI slots in it....
    Regards,
    Ronald

I think you're right about that one, I should have upgraded every time when I got the new CD's. On the other hand, I developed some way in reusing quite a lot of my work. So I only have to update these vi's in order to get my programs running again I guess. The nice thing of it is that this would be the perfect opportunity to go through my work of the past 7 years and look what's really needed and what can be thrown in the bin.
About the LV7.1 version: You're right. NI allows you to use them besides your new versions. I think I've got to play a little around with my virtual machines in order to get multiple versions (and multiple DAQmx versions) running aside of each other. Lucky for me is that a lot of analysis is done after the DAQ has been done!!
    Thanks,
    Bye

It sounds like you are using NI-488.2 version 1.2. Version 1.2 does not have MAX support for the enet. NI-488.2 ver 2.0 has MAX support on Win 2k for the enet.

  • Incomplete simulated device list in MAX

I'm trying to create a simulated device (PXI-4071 DMM) using NI-DAQmx 8.9.5 but the list of instruments (see attached picture) contains far less than the list shown in the "NI-DAQmx Simulated Devices" tutorial.  Most specifically, it doesn't contain the category "Digital Multimeters" where I'd expect to find the PXI-4071.  What drives the list of available instruments?  Are there device drivers I need to load to fill out the rest of the list?

A DMM does not use DAQmx so that is why you would not see it listed. You use NI-DMM and it can be simulated if you use the IVI driver.
    Edit:
"Install the latest DAQmx drivers.  I am running 9.2.3 and it shows up."
You are correct. Never saw that before.

  • DAQmx devices not recognized after reboot

I have a PXI-1042 box communicating with a desktop computer over a MXI-3 bridge.  This system has been up and running for several years through four or five revs of code. I am currently running MAX 4.6.0f1, DAQmx 8.9.5, LV 2009 and TS 4.2.
Lately when an engineer logs on, although all six  cards are recognized in the NI-DAQmx Devices configuration section, only three are listed as installed. All six cards are listed in the Chassis section. See attached screen shot. If the engineer logs out and reboots enough times, eventually all six cards are available. Any ideas on what may be corrupting  the configuration?

    John,
Here are answers to most of your questions:
Can you verify that the missing switch modules are always only the switch modules, or are other modules sometimes missing, too?
               >> It is always the switch modules that are missing.
Is the MXI Bridge always connected to the host controller?
Is the chassis always powered up before the host?
               >> Yes and yes.
When the engineer repeatedly logs out and in, do the cards appear only one at a time, or do multiple formerly missing cards appear at once?
               >> They always come and go together.
Once all cards appear in MAX, do they remain until the machine reboots (even if you log out or in)?
               >> Not positive on this one. I'm 90% sure they come and go, even with just logging in and out.
When cards are missing, does the device manager list the cards under the NI Devices section, or are there any bangs?
               >> Not sure what you are asking here. Is this the "NI-DAQmx Devices" section that is highlighted in the screen shot? The center panel is what is listed when this section header is selected (as shown). What are "bangs"?

  • PXI-6509 Error occurred at Reset Device

    Greetings Everyone,
I recently had three (3) PXI-6509's fail in one of my Test Stations.  I tried to reset them in MAX and received the following message: "The device reset has failed.  The error report from the device driver is as follows: Error -224903 occurred at Reset Device.".  I also received "Error -50152".  After that while I had the stores list up of all installed boards, the three (3) PXI-6509's removed themselves from the list.  I'm wondering what these error codes are telling me.  The pop up error dialogue box stated that the "Possible Reason(s): Internal Software Error occurred in Static_Digital_software".  I'm also curious as to what this is relating to.  I replaced all three (3) board from a NEW chassis that I'm bringing up for use and everything thing is fine.  I tried plugging these failed boards into my other chassis and the computer will not even boot up.  Thank you in advance for any information that you provide that will help me in understanding what may have caused this to happen.  The system was working fine up to lunch time and after lunch is when the problems started.

    Solved!

    Greetings Nick,
Here is the course of events that led up to the problem being described.
While testing UUT’s (Company Product): (PXI-1044 with PXI-8101(XP), GPIB Controller and various PXI cards installed)
Before Lunch everything was working well.  It was after lunch that the following events took place.
    a)     Test Sequence hung up during External Power Supply ramp up in which the D-I/O are used to switch relays inside the ITA (Interface Test Adaptor) to connect the DMM to the Power Supply that is in use at the particular time in the test sequence.  This has happened a couple times before, but NO error ever happened and just re-booting the system cleared it.
    b)     The next thing that was performed was shutting down TestStand and Labview.
    c)     The next thing that was performed was executing “MAX”.
    d)    Once in “MAX”, I normally try to RESET all of the PXI cards, which is usually successful, but not in this case.  The error pop up came up with the two (2) different error codes (-224903 and -50152).  Please explain what the “Static-Digital Software is?
    e)     I shutdown “MAX” and Re-Booted the system.
    f)      After Re-Boot completed, I executed “MAX” once again and clicked My System, Devices and Interfaces and PXI-1044 “Chassis 1”.
    g)     I tried to reset the NI PXI-6509 “PXI1Slot7” and received the pop-up error as described.
    h)    Upon clicking OK.  The PXI1Slot7 and PXI1Slot8 removed themselves from the stores list of cards installed and the icon next to NI PXI-6509 “PXI1Slot9” changed from a little green board icon to a white board icon with a little red ‘x’ inside it.
    i)      Next, I removed all three (3) PXI-6509 from a NEW chassis in a NEW TestStand that I planned to bring on line in a couple of weeks.  I placed these boards into the TestStand that is failing and everything is working well once again.  I ran some diagnostics and everything checks out OK.
    j)      Next, I took the failing boards and placed them into the NEW chassis and the computer wouldn’t even boot up.
    k)    Next I removed two (2) (PXI1Slot7 and PXI1Slot8) of the boards and tried to boot the computer and the computer booted up.
    l)      I proceeded to execute “MAX” and check the stores list only to find that the board (PXI1Slot9) was not even in the category of the PXI-1044 Chassis1 but outside it and it also had the white icon with a little red ‘x’.  It also affected the PXI-2575 in PXI1Slot10, which had a white icon and little red ‘x’.  I removed the board from PXI1Slot9 and re-booted the system and PXI1Slot10 recovered with the normal green icon that is usually next to it.
What I need to understand is what “Static-Digital software” is and what the errors are telling me.  The fact that three (3) NEW board installed into the chassis and function 100% tells me that there is something wrong with the three (3) boards that I removed from the chassis and that nothing else seems to be wrong with the chassis.
The fact that installing the three (3) boards into a NEW chassis and the computer not booting is something of concern.  I’m trying to understand what could have caused this to happen in the first place so I can be prevented in the future.
    Regards,
    Scott

  • Built application can't find DaqMX devices with VISA Find Resource VI

My application programmatically finds all of my PXI devices using the VISA Find Resources VI with the following regular expression:
    (PXI[0-9]*::?*INSTR){VI_ATTR_S:LOT >= 0}
This works with my built application on a PXI-8186 controller with LabVIEW installed, but when I created an installer to put it on another PXI-8186 controller without the LabVIEW development system, none of my DaqMX devices show up in my list of VISA resources.  They all show up in MAX, however.  I even tried creating a simple app that just has the routine which gets the resource list.  Ironically, the only PXI device that shows up in the list is a ZT1000PXI made by ZTEC Corp.  I also have a number of PXI-4437s and PXI-6120s in the chassis.  I tried setting the PXI option in MAX to report all PXI devices, not just registered ones, but that had no effect.
This is a Windows 2000 OS running on a PXI-8186, with DaqMX 8.5.0f3 and NI_VISA Runtime V4.1, and LabVIEW Runtime V8.2.1.
Does anyone have a clue why this isn't working? I've tried uninstallng and reinstalling NI-VISA Runtime, but it didn't matter.

    Hi wired,
As I understand it, you built an application in LabVIEW 8.2.1 on a PXI-8186 controller. When you moved to a new controller, one without LabVIEW 8.2.1, the program to find your PXI cards returns only a third party device and not your DAQ cards, despite the devices being visible in Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX). You have an Installer for your application that installs the runtime engines for VISA and LabVIEW and the DAQmx driver.  Is my understanding correct?
You mentioned that you had tried setting the PXI option in MAX to report all PXI devices, not just the registered ones. By this, did you mean that you set the VISA option to Show all devices accessible to VISA? If you did not mean this, then I would suggest doing so. In MAX, you can expand the Software tab in the Configuration Tree to the left. By selecting NI-VISA, the VISA options become visible. You should select show all devices accessible to VISA as seen in the attached screenshot.
If you did in fact select this option already, can I ask if you also enabled the NI-VISA tulip Passport? In order to do this, on the VISA Options page, under General Settings, if you select the Passports option a list of checked boxes appear. Select the Tulips option as seen in the second screenshot and then click the Save button at the top of the MAX window. You will then need to close LabVIEW or your application and restart it.
I built a simple program to test this post, and until I followed the above steps, the only devices that appeared were my com ports. After doing this I was able to all of my DAQ cards.
Could you clarify some things for me? When you said that the application works on a PXI-8186 controller with LabVIEW, was this the development machine or just a controller you tried the executable on and it worked? What is in your installer? Is the VISA version on the test controller the same as that on the development machine? And lastly, in MAX, do the DAQ cards appear under DAQmx devices or under PXI systems and can you communicate with them using a test panel?

  • Self Test Error -50002, The specified device is not a valid device.

I'm just an IT guy that knows nothing about Labview or DAQ cards that has been given the task of setting up a lab.
System is Dell GX280 with Windows XP SP-2. The DAQ card being used is a NI PCI-6251. The software used is Labview 7.11 and NI-DAQ 7.4.
Labview loads the professor's VI files as expected but when you start the vi it returns the following error.
Error -200157 occurred at the Traditional NI-DAQ Compatibility VI:AI Group Config.vi-> DAQmx Create Channel(AT-Voltage-Basic).vi
Also when you enter the Measurement and Automation application and browse to the device and execute a self-test it returns the following error.
Error -50002 occurred at Self Test
    Possible Reason(s):
The specified device is not a valid device. The Operation could be completed as specified.
My question is are these errors because there are no devices connected to the DAQ? The professor claims that if nothing is connected it should still function properly. So now I'm trying to figure out what is wrong and the professor is not the friendliest in the world. I have tried reinstalling Labview and NI-Daq several times now and no luck using two separate computers. I would appreciate any assistance.

    Hi Rice IT,
Since you are new to using this whole DAQ thing, then I'll start with just the basics.
Make sure you have no NI Devices in your computer (if you do, remove them then begin).
    Install LabVIEW.
Install the latest DAQ drivers for your system (for you it's NI-DAQmx Version 7.5 for Windows 2000/NT/XP).
Power down the computer and insert your DAQ board.
When Windows boots you should see the New Device Wizard.  Have it search for and install the drivers.
Open Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX) to test the device (Start > All Programs > National Instruments)
Go to My System > Devices and Interfaces > NI-DAQmx Devices, you should see your DAQ device.
Right-click on your device and click Self-Test.  If the device passes it should be ready to use
If that causes an error right-click on the device and Reset Device.
Redo Step 8 and perform a Self-Test of the device
If the Self-Test still does not work, then the board could be
broken.  Try to place the board in a different PCI slot, if other
boards are available then try to use a known working board in your
system.  If you still have trouble contact Technical Support.
Now your device should be working.  You can try to run a Test Panel and look at how your device performs.
You could also right click on Data Neighborhood in MAX and
Create New... DAQmx Task and try to make a more customized measurement.
Finally you can open an example in LabVIEW
Open LabVIEW > Open > Examples (or Help > Find
Examples) > Browse > Hardware Input and Output > DAQmx.
Choose an example that is similar to what type of operation you are
    trying to perform.
Typically you will want to start with an example and then
build up from there.  If not, then you will want to take a look at
    this KB
If you run into any problems, first read thru what the error message is
and where it occurs.  If that can't help you isolate the error,
then try searching ni.com for more information.  If you can't find
anything there, then check the forums to see if somebody else has had a
similar fate.  Finally if you cannot find any more information
    contact NI's Technical Support.
Here are a few more resources that might help you with some of the basics:

  • Odd Sidebar "Devices" behavior

I have a number of partitions on an external drive that I mount & unmount from time to time. Usually, they show up & disappear from the sidebar's "Devices" list as expected, but after some weird system hang (each open app would quit responding & would not force quit) that required a forced restart & PRAM reset, I noticed that one of the partitions would not show up in the devices list when mounted, even though it was accessible & on the Desktop.
As part of the check of my system after the system hang, I ran Disk Utility's disks & permissions repairs & found nothing wrong with any partition. Thinking the sidebar problem was with Finder's pref file, I trashed that & relaunched the Finder, but nothing changed -- still the one partition would not show up in the sidebar.
So I then opened Finder's preferences & noticed something unexpected: In the sidebar 'show these items' list, the selection boxes next to "Hard Disks" & "External Disks" had a "-" instead of a check-mark in them -- similar to the "-" in an installer checklist that indicates only some of its sub-items have been selected. In the Finder pref, the behavior was the same: click once on the "-" & the box is cleared, click again & I got the check-mark.
The check-marked settings are now honored for all the external partitions, so the issue seems moot, but I wonder if anybody else has seen anything similar....

Either you’ve messed with the Preferences > Junk Mail > Advanced settings, or those settings have become corrupt, or you have one or more rules that have a bearing on this.
Assuming it isn’t the latter, try this:
    1. Go to Preferences > Junk Mail, disable junk mail filtering, then enable it again. This resets the rule that governs what the junk filter does.
    2. Choose either Training or Automatic mode (it doesn’t matter) and leave the other options checked. Click Advanced to see how the junk filter rule is defined now if you want, but don’t touch anything there.
    3. Reset the junk filter database (Preferences > Junk Mail > Reset).
