Max Data Rate: AGP 2x?!
Bought myself a new MSI-KT6 Delta a few weeks ago (MSI-6590), and have had no problems until now.
First up, my GeForce 4 Ti 4600 decided to suddenly die. Random characters on the screen in text mode, flickery colours and corrupt pixels everywhere. Windows wouldn't detect it properly anymore.
Bought a new Powercolor Radeon 9600 XT with VIVO today. Downloaded the new drivers, and loaded up some Battlefield, all good. Runs nice and smooth. COD, Quake 3, etc, no problems at all.
Halo, however... BAD. Even with the basic graphics settings and no Pixel-Shading, it runs at 4 frames a second, and nothing I do changes this, from lowest to highest with Pixel-Shaders 2.0. Although there's a visual difference, it's just as slow.
So I loaded up ATI control Panel and used SmartGart to enable 8x and Fast-Writes... Rebooted, lots of flickering screen, and Windows XP is now software-rendering everything (Transparent menus take 100% CPU to fade in)
Wait for SmartGart to fix my graphics again, and it's all back to 4x and no fast-write.
Loaded up SiSoft Sandra, to check the settings in there...
Mainboard: "Max Data Rate: AGP 2x"
AGP Card: "Data Transfer Modes Support: 1x, 2x"
"AGP Bus is unused or AGP card not fully AGP compatible"
Er... should this be right? BIOS wont let me select an AGP speed, it's "Auto" and I can't select it. I'm a little concerned that my Motherboard may have been damaged! I'll go get the latest Halo Patch, but it doesn't change the fact that I can't use 8x or Fast-Write.
I'm a little apprehensive about flashing my BIOS, made more difficult by the fact that I have no working floppy drive.

Well, I updated the VIA drivers, and an updated Sandra. AGP is running at 8x, and Fast-Writes are enabled! I don't know what the hell SmartGart was going on about, but it appears to slunk away and disappeared completely from the ATI control panel since the last reinstall of drivers.
So there's one problem solved... but I don't know what's up with Halo... I can set it to the lowest settings and it still runs like an elephant with three legs, even with the -useff option for Fixed Function shaders... ah well, that's a matter for another forum, eh?
Interesting note: Sandra reports my 120gb drive as 605gb... should I be trusting it?

I have just brought up my BT Home Hub 5 stats and my upload data rate is higher than my upload maximum date rate. Is this normal? My upload noise margin has dropped to 4.9 - 5.1 dB. I've had BT Infinity just over 2 days and was wondering if this was normal for FTTC connections?

Williamnormally the data rate will be lower than max data rate but yours is that close I would not bother unless it starts to affect your connection which is unlikely

Can anyone tell me if my speed will increase due to DLM if my max data rate continues to climb. I used to have 70meg downstream no problem, but after lots of attempts to get BT to resolve an issue left it (thought I would just let my contract expire) when it dropped to 57 max. Now the max data rate has increased from 65000 to the value below. As a result, my speeds have increased to upto 62 down again. There is however a big discrepancy between the two figures, does this mean my speed will continue to increase if it continues upwards accordingly? Why the big difference between the two?

How to find the max data transfer rate(disk speed) supported by mobo?
I plan on replacing my current HDD with a new and bigger HDD.
For this I need to know the max data transfer rate(disk speed) that my mobo will support. However, dmidecode is not telling me that. Am I missing something?

Hdparm also does not tell me the max data transfer rate (disk speed) of my current drive although this link : www.wdc.com/en/library/sata/2879-001146.pdf says that it is 3.0Gb/s

So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.

PXI-7831R analog input max sampling rate?
I'm using 5 of the analog inputs on the 7831R and seem to only be able to get a max sampling rate of 10K per channel. Looking at the specs it should do at least 10 times this per channel, also the time for the A/D loop is 228 ticks of the 40MHz clock so this would suggest a higher sampling rate than just 10K. I'm missing something here... Any ideas as to what the deal is?

You are right in saying that the 7831R boards should acquire data much faster than 10KHz. Infact you can take a look at the actual specs from the data sheet http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/14757 as well as the product manual. However, I am concerned that you may be measuring the rate of acquisition on the RT VI (or any host vi) you are running as opposed measuring it in the FPGA VI.
Your time critical loop may be running at 228 ticks of the 40 MHz clock but the data is buffered (at that rate) and has to be then transferred to the communication loop which then sends the data to the host vi (which may be your RT vi). Hence, the rate at which host VI receives the data will be much slower than the FPGA VI is acquiring data.

How do you change the max data when creating a DVD?
I recently filmed a show and am making DVD copies. The show runs 1hour 45mins and is about 79gb in HD. I'm using compressor 4.1 to create the DVDs so it fits on one disc. I've made a few test copies but so far every DVD freezes at around 43 mins when I play it in another computer or dvd player. I heard in a blog that reducing the max data should solve the problem. This is my first time using compressor and I wanted to know where do you go to change the max data and how will that affect the video quality? Also, what is the suggested range of data limits for a project of this size?
ThanksDuplicate the Create DVD preset from the Settings pane and name it.
Select the MPEG setting in the batch window.
Open the Inspector and click the Video tab.
Choose your "Encoding Mode" (CBR, etc.).
Uncheck Automatically Select Bit Rate.
You can then move the slider: somewhere around 4 Mb per second should be about right.
Just to add that you might also have a problem with the physical media. Try another brand to see whether that makes a difference.

Reducing data rate written to a LVM file
I have a LabVIEW 7.1 question regarding data logging. I have designed a system that reads the pressure of 6 4-20Ma pressure transducers. This data is then filtered to remove any noise, and displayed to the user on the computer's screen.
I am currently reading the data at 1000HZ using the DAQ Assistant, which seems to give a clear picture of the pressure changes. My supervisor has asked me to allow the system to log the results for what may be 3 or 4 days. As you ca imagine, 48 hours at 1000 samples a second is a lot of data! I need some method to reduce the data rate written to the file. Ideally, I would like to take one second of data, find the highest reading, and then file a single entry and a timestamp interval of 1 second. So, for each hour, there would be 3600 rows with 7 columns (1 time stamp and 6 sensors). It would be nice if the 1 second average could be adjustable, so that if long term logging is to be done (a week, for example), the interval can be changed to 5 seconds or whatever.
I have tried reducing the data read rate as much as possible, but it seems that 100hz is the smallest that is possible. That is still too high... as the hard drive would fill up in no time.
Any help in this area would be appreciated. I have tried a few things, and all to no success. I have included a copy of the code for anyone to review.

Testing.vi 812 KBYou would have to talk with your supervisor first to determine what he intends to do with the log data and what degree of resolution he actually needs first. You probably want the 1000Hz Sampling rate so you can do decent filtering on the signal (hopefully your pressures aren't actually changing at a faster rate than that). I'm assuming you are returning a single result for those 1000 readings for each sensor. Specify some file logging duration of n-seconds (or minutes or whatever). Between file writes, pop each filtered measurement into an array (either 1 array of 6 dimensions or 6 1-dimension arrays). After n-seconds have passed, determine the min, avg, and max values from each sensor (array) and log those with your timestamp. So if you set your log timer for 1 minute, you would log a single min, max, and average reading of 60 readings for 6 sensors (this would only require 1 row with say a timestamp and 3x6 (18) columns for each sensor's min, max, average data). After a 24hour period you will have logged 1440 rows of data. In 3 days that would only be 4320 rows of data. All that is as easy as using a timer and a case structure around your logging function which would be triggered every n-seconds. Everything else you're doing would be the same. None of this really has much to do with labview as it is more of a logical explanation of how and when to acquire and log your data. What method are you using for storing your data? CSV, BIN, etc.. If you also want to display the data in a chart, I would recommend charting the same data you're logging, otherwise your chart will probably crash your system at 1000samps/second for 60 hours.. Once again, it depends on how your supervisor is analyzing the logged data. Make your log duration programmable and change it until he is happy. If he's(she's?) using Excel, your maximum log timer would be 9 seconds (Equates to ~6.67 Logs per Minute, ~400 Logs per Hour, ~9600 Logs Per Day, for a total of 28,800 Logs(rows) for 3 days -- Excel is limited to 32000 rows).

Airport Express lowers internet data rate
When I run an internet speed test with my cable modem connected to my iMac with an ethernet cable I typically get download speeds around 110 Mbps. When I connect my cable modem to my Apple Express and use my Apple Express wifi to connect my iMac I typically get download speeds around 70 Mbps. I understand the Apple Express is capable of 100 Mbps data rates. Any ideas how I might increase my wifi data rate when using wifi?
The Gen1 is indeed single band..
And if you need 2.4ghz you have no choice but to use it..
Selecting N only does not necessarily select 5ghz.. as both 2.4ghz and 5ghz are N wireless. All that selection does is prevent G and A and B wireless devices joining. However you maybe right that it is forcing the connection to 5ghz.. the way to find out is hold the option key and click the wifi fan in the top menu area of the mac and check what it says.. or open the wireless diagnostics you will find in the same place.
It appears the current generation Apple Express includes a LAN ethernet port that would allow a wired ethernet connection for my iMac (and I assume throughput the 100+Mbps speeds my ISP provides) to my iMac while simultaneously providing wifi for the other devices in my household.
The ethernet of the later 2nd Gen express will allow you to reach 100Mbps but that is the Max.. if you share with wireless you still cannot exceed 100Mbit.. even if the link is to local lan.. That is why I said the right product is the extreme. If you don't want to buy a new Gen6 Airport Extreme .. buy a Gen5 second hand.. they cost less than a new Express and work better.. having 4 gigabit ethernet ports and higher speed 5ghz. -
I am trying to burn a 15 minute video straight to the DVD. During the burning process (after rendering for about 10 hours) I got the following message: "The data rate of this file is too high for DVD. You must replace the file with one of a lower data rate. -PGC Info: name=, ref=Apgc, time= 00:07:44:23"
I successfully burned the same project a week ago; my only changes were adding some transitions and a few stills.
My project is video (most converted from VHS), music (ripped from CD or itunes), Audio (narrative recorded at home) and stills (almost all reduced to ~300Kb).
I am in the middle now of trying to burn to a file, but the error spooks me.

Some place, you have set the Data-rate above the DVD-spec. of 10 MB/s for ALL Assets, or have spikes above that. Now, since this is for all streams, Audio + Video, something below 8 works best. Then, if there is a momentary spike, it falls below the threshold of 10. In your Export settings, this has been set to high, either by you, or the program. PE is pretty smart about spikes, but can get fooled by the Assets, sometimes.
Check your output settings. I find that a setting of ~7 max. is better for player compatibility, though PE does allow one to go to 8 max.

Can subtitles cause data rate too high errors?
I've been building a DVD in Encore CS5, using Sorenson as the transcoder. I've built the disc many times with no issues. Now I've added a Spanish subtitle track, and I am suddenly getting errors that the data rate is too high. Can the subtitles cause this?
These are my Sorenson settings. Ultimately this will be a commercially pressed disc. Do I need to adjust, and if so, how?

Stereo, 16The question will be in part what the actual datarate is (and most particularly, datarate spikes). If we were using burned disks, I would worry. Since players don't have to play burned disks, they are less likely to be uniform in handling datarate variations. You are replicating; correct? So a player that fails to play correctly, is failing what it is supposed to do. As long as you are in spec, you should be okay.
The other way to answer this: no, I would not trust Encore failing to throw an error as a sufficient guarantee. Does the replicator test for datarate? -

Like a few others out there, I've been having a "PGC Data rate too high, please switch with lower data rate" problem for a few weeks now. I've been searching online for the past week and a half for a solution and have tried everything suggested, from changing the transcoding max bitrates (down to 5.0) and lowering the audio bitrate, to recompressing, and reencoding the said video file that is having problems. I removed this certain video from my project and built it without any problems which leads me to believe that this one video is the culprit. No matter what I've tried, I still get the same message although the time of error varies by a second or two. Is there any other help someone may be able to offer about the subject? Thanks.

This sounds like a somewhat esoteric way to do the conversions IMHO.
It is possible the total combined data rates do exceed - but in EncoreDVD 2 this is a warning more than anything else.
I got these when running HIgh Bitrate MPEG-2 CBR encoded files along with PCM audio - I ignored the warning & built the disc anyway. It worked just fine.
Bitrates in question were 8,000 for video & 1536 for Audio.
Within specs. The little yellow triangle triangle with an exclamation mark was clearly visible in the timeline, so I used the "Ignore warnings & build anyway" option as I knew it was "in-spec".
Can you please let us know some details about the project:
1 - Source of files
2 - Bitrates encoded
3 - Audio type
etc.
I wonder - and hopefully someone can confirm one way or the other - if Encore sets the limit for this warning from the setting made in preferences about the maximum bitrate? -
I am currently trying to log DC voltage readings from a AA battery to an ASCII file using LabVIEW SingalExpress 2009 and the USB-4065 DMM (digital multimeter). I have two steps:
1) Acquire Signal > DC Voltage using DMM
- set to 4.5 resolution with 3.333333E-5 sample period
2) Save to ASCII
- Set to append to file, I delete the file after every run
The fastest readings I can get is one data point written to the ASCII file every eighth of a second.
Additionally I am new to NI Software and LabVIEW, the LabVIEW SignalExpress software I have is only for Evaluation as it was included in the driver CD for the USB 4065 DMM.
Is the max sampling rate (30,000 samples per second) only achievable through a LabVIEW VI?
Do I have the wrong settings for the DMM step?
Is it because I have not activated SignalExpress and am only using the evaluation version?

You imply that you have LabVIEW, but are just new to it. I recommend using our DMM shipping examples, available in the NI example finder:
Go to the Help menu bar, then select Find Examples. Once the NI Example Finder opens, go to: Hardware Input and Output»Modular Instruments»NI-DMM»Multi-Point Measurements»Cont Acq & Chart Multiple Samples.vi.
With that VI open, decrease the resolution to increase the sample rate. If you're still not able to get as many samples per second as you'd like, I recommend reading the NI-DMM Help file (Start»All programs»National Instruments»NI-DMM»Documentation), particularly the 4065 measurement cycle (Devices»NI 4065»DMM Measurements»DMM Measurement Cycle) section. If you're still not able to measure as fast as you'd like, post up and we can look at other configuration/hardware options.

How to achieve high usb data rate with cRIO-9022?
Hi all,
I read the datasheet of NI-9022 and know that USB data rate can be 480Mb/s.
I want to transfer data with rate 3.6MB/s which is much slower than the spec, but the result is time out error.
I check my FPGA and RT code by save to RT disk and the result is pass. So I think my code should be correct.
Is that because the USB driver not installed into RT?
Should I install the USB driver into RT?
Or is there any other issue I haven't find?

Also, you don't need a driver to get a USB mass storage device to work on the cRIO. Have a look at this document:

STMS shows wrong release after upgrade
I've just upgraded our DEV box (also our transport domain controller) from R/3 4.6C to ECC 6.0 and am trying to get STMS to show the new release version on the system overview screen. I try to "update configuration" but the release remains the same w
