MAX does not see PCMCIA-GPIB or GPIB-USB-B

I am using a legacy Windows XP SP3 system with MAX 3.1 and NI-488.2 V2.1. I use either a PCMCIA-GPIB card or a GPIB-USB-B.
When logged into an administrator account there are no problems; both devices appear in MAX and in the WIndows device manager.
When logged into a user account with limited privileges, the devices appear in the WIndows device manager, but not in MAX, but the VIs and compiled EXEs I user still operate correctly. However, if I convert the user account to an admin account the devices are visible, but this is not a solution because 'Security'.
The problem lies within the compiled EXEs as their respective VIs have been lost over time and the address of the PCMCIA or USB interface are hardcoded, and are not the same in all EXEs. I would appreciate any insight you may have.

Hi Maelmorde,
If some features aren't working for users with reduced privileges you may need to grant them privileges to the National Instruments installation directory, the method is detailed in the KB article here.
I'd recommend trying this to see if it helps.

MAX communicates fine with GPIB Instrument, LV Standalone Exe Front Panel Control Does Not See It.

I have succesfully created a LV standalone EXE which communicated with external GPIB instruments. I used LV 7.1 for this. I upgraded DAQMx to 8.0 on the development machine and also the target which runs the Exe. The EXe runs fine on the development machine but when run on the target laptop, the front panel control fails to see the GPIB instrument. On the target, in MAX I successfully setup communication with the GPIB instrument. Is there some incompatibilty with DAQMx 8.0 and LV7.1? An additional piece of info here: when upgrading to DAQMx 8.0, I selected the installation support for LV 7, 7.1 and also 8. Could this be where the problem lies?

The GPIB code is actually an IVI driver made for a Rhode and Schwarz TRMS meter. Its the standard VISA Read/Write, nothing out of the ordinary. I'm using a USB-GPIB-HS adapter to communicate with it. Like I mentioned, the VISA instrument control drop down list on the front panel of the Exe does not list any GPIB instruments, all that is listed is ASRL...1, ASRL...4, and ASRL...10. In the EXE that used to work, there were no ASRL... references listed. What was listed was the GPIB0...INSTR...20, COM1, and the parallel port. So something weird is going on now, somehow effected with the load of DAQMx 8.0.

MAX 5.0.0 does not see any NI software

I am upgrading a very old test system to a new motherboard. I am loading a hard drive from scratch since the old system used a PATA drive and the new system uses a SATA drive. Since this system has been in use for over a decade I also thought loading from scratch would be a good idea.
I load everything up in this order:
Windows XP (with updates to SP3)

When I am done MAX does not list any software. My hardware shows up fine. (PCI-6013, PCI-6025E, PCI-8512, PCI-GPIB)
Note: My system includes an 8 port serial card and while the ports do list under the MAX hardware section (COM3-COM10) it seems like my software can only access COM1 and COM2. If from within MAX I try "Tools" -> "NI-VISA" -> "VISA Options" nothing happens. I take this as a sign that not seeing software within MAX is at the root of my problem.
Also, the "Tools" -> "Reset Configuration Data" option is not there although it is supposed to be in MAX 5.0
As far as I can tell everything I am using is compatible. I don't have many other options since some of my software uses Traditional NI-DAQ.
What are my options?
Try something else to get MAX 5.0 working? Install MAX 5.1?

Good point - I should have mentioned that I did do that before installing any of the NI software.
BTW: Installing MAX 5.1 did fix the MAX not seeing software issue (still not sure why though) but did not help my COM port problem.
My programs that use COM1 or COM2 work fine but my programs that use COM3-COM10 do not. If I transmit data on COM3 within MAX using a test panel the data gets sent but when one of my programs sends on COM3 it does not. Really not sure what is going on.

MAX does not detect my PXI-5122 and PXI-6551 cards in a PXI-1045 chassis.

I have been using a PC with MXI-3 to PXI-1045 chassis to develop LabView TestStand code. Things are fine on my development PC. [Software configuration report attached nireport_rich.txt].
I have a 2nd PC set aside to test my deployment packages. I installed a GPIB card and MXI-3 card in my deployment test PC, and loaded a bunch of hardware drivers. [Report attached nireport_depPC_0006.txt]
All the PXI cards are found just fine when my development PC is connected, but when I power up my deployment PC (with MXI-3 connected to the 1045 chassis) -- I can't import the development configuration [exported from development PC] because the deployment PC does not see the PXI-6551 DIO card in slot 6 [PXI6::10::INSTR] and the PXI-5122 card in slot 13 [PXI8::15::INSTR].
I keep reviewing the hardware driver versions installed, and the only small difference that I see at this point is that the deployment PC has a slightly older version of NI-Switch.
Anybody have any ideas of what I can try next? I'm out of ideas.

The pxisys.ini and pxiesys.ini files are modified by me with referring to
1)PXI System Alliance PXI-2 SW spec,
2)PXI-6 SW spec,
and 3)pxisys.ini pxiesys.ini generated by MAX v5.3.0f0 with NI PXIe-1075 + NI PXIe-8133.
The content in pxisys.ini/pxiesys.ini generated by MAX looks like simple. Consequently, I modified and checked it line by line according to actual hardware of PXES-2590+PXIe-3975. Then, MAX just list devices as described in the first post. I tried to find the root cause but in vain.
Is this minor issue can be related any incorrect tag lines in pxisys.ini or pxiesys.ini I posted?
Is any suggestion tests I can do to troubleshoot root cause?

Extension manager does not see all of my adobe programs?? What can i do without reinstalling????

Hello i needed to install an extension for dreamweaver and for some reason extension manager does not see all my adobe programs. How can i fix that without reinstalling the programs?

Notebook does not see mPCIe card (asm1061)

Aloha Community,
i am using an old notebook as a small server (cups/ftp/http/etc).
The Notebook is an old Dell Inspiron 1520.
I attached three 3,5'' HDDs to it which are powered via an external PSU.
the first HDD is connected to the original sata-port.
the other two are connected to a ASMedia ASM1061 Sata-controller. This controller sits on a small mPCIe card which i fitted on one of the three mPCIe slot the Notebook offers me (i tried all three).
In Bios all mPCIe-Slots are activated, still the OS does not see the HDDs.
also lspci seems not to see the card. Any ideas?

that's the problem i guess... according to the bios settings all mPCIe slots are enabled, still the card does not show up.

MAX does not start up

Even though NI-MAX does not open up and giving me errors, I opened up labview and placed a DAQmx reset device VI and connected a constant at its input. The constant does show all the daq cards (connected in my PXI sytem) in the labview.
What does this mean ? Can I continue with the development even though the MAX does not open up ?
Another NI engineer recommended trying to install the NI System Configuration utility (http://joule.ni.com/nidu/cds/view/p/id/4086/lang/en )
since it does appear that drivers are currently working correctly. This installer includes MAX and a few other utilities but should not affect driver installations.

HT201269 itunes cannot see my iphone backup. I have a backup of the backup on an external HD, but even tech support cannot figure this one out. I copy and paste backups into the correct folder but itunes still does not see it. All I need are my contact

Sorry for short novel I am writing. I just wanted to cover as much backround as possible.
So, here it goes. I backed up my iphone 4 after renting a movie. The movie only played the starting credits before I was called on for daddy duty. A few days later the movie would not play, so I restored my phone from my backup. The movie would still would not play so itunes support refunded my purchase and ended my viewing privileges for that rental after verifying that I had not viewed the movie. I then had a problem with my contacts showing up twice in the contacts list after the restore. So I attempted another restore. All was well at this point. I then started having trouble with my pc and decided to copy the internal drive to an external source. A week later I had a system failure and did a factory restore on my computer. I re-installed itunes and tried to copy and paste the old backup into the new itunes. Now itunes just flat out does not see the backup file (I failed to mention that I did a factory reset on the iphone after the last backup, hopping to start fresh). Tech support had me uninstall and re-install itunes and then copy and paste the old backup into the newly installed itunes with no luck. The files are all there, but itunes just doesn't see them (itunes says the device has not been backed up to the cloud or to the local machine). We then tried backing up the factory restored iphone and replacing that restore file with one of my old backups on the external drive. Ok, this is where it gets weird. We replaced the guts of the folder but left the folder itself so itunes would continue to recognize the new backup folder with the old files. Whoohoo, itunes now see's a backup folder full of old files, or so we thought. The new files were deleted using shift delete so they would be gone for good and not mix with any files or folders. I am guessing that files in other folders must be associated with the iphone backup in order for itunes to retrieve the files. Any ideas or support in retrieving my contacts would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for short novel I am writing. I just wanted to cover as much backround as possible.
So, here it goes. I backed up my iphone 4 after renting a movie. The movie only played the starting credits before I was called on for daddy duty. A few days later the movie would not play, so I restored my phone from my backup. The movie would still would not play so itunes support refunded my purchase and ended my viewing privileges for that rental after verifying that I had not viewed the movie. I then had a problem with my contacts showing up twice in the contacts list after the restore. So I attempted another restore. All was well at this point. I then started having trouble with my pc and decided to copy the internal drive to an external source. A week later I had a system failure and did a factory restore on my computer. I re-installed itunes and tried to copy and paste the old backup into the new itunes. Now itunes just flat out does not see the backup file (I failed to mention that I did a factory reset on the iphone after the last backup, hopping to start fresh). Tech support had me uninstall and re-install itunes and then copy and paste the old backup into the newly installed itunes with no luck. The files are all there, but itunes just doesn't see them (itunes says the device has not been backed up to the cloud or to the local machine). We then tried backing up the factory restored iphone and replacing that restore file with one of my old backups on the external drive. Ok, this is where it gets weird. We replaced the guts of the folder but left the folder itself so itunes would continue to recognize the new backup folder with the old files. Whoohoo, itunes now see's a backup folder full of old files, or so we thought. The new files were deleted using shift delete so they would be gone for good and not mix with any files or folders. I'm having the same issue with a file called IMG_2353.MOV that was imported into iPhoto from my iPhone and also have to manually select the items to import (so the rogue file doesn't error everything out). I've tried using Image Capture to locate/delete the file directly from my iPhone, but even though I can SEE it in Image Capture, I can't delete it or anything. This is VERY frustrating! My friend/Apple guru's only suggestion was to backup my phone then restore it through iTunes. Risky but should do the trick. I'm too scared to try, though!

My computer does not see my printer

Hi: I am having a problem with my HP Photosmart 4500 printer. My computer does not see it. I have a USB connected to it, have uninstalled and installed the software two time, dowloaded the latest update and nothing. Add to that, I can not connect it by WIFI. WIFI on the printer is on but again, it's no where on any of the screens. The only variable I can think of that has changed has been the router I got recently from AT&T. Everything else works with the WIFI but no computer. I'm running 10.7.5. I have read the install instructions and nothing seems to be working. The one thing I do get from the HP install disc is a message reading the printer isn't recognized but there are no updates in support. OK, what am I missing here?

Try these steps to uninstall the current software using the HP scrubber and then reinstall using the current HP driver available through Apple.
To do so, perform the following steps:
1. Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard/ and then click on “HP Uninstaller”
2. Next click “Continue”
3. Highlight the device on the left pane.
4. Press and hold control+alt+command on the keyboard simultaneously while you click on “Uninstall”.
5. After you do this, you will see a pop up that asks you if you want to uninstall all HP software. Please note, that in doing this, it will remove any other HP printers that you also have installed.
6. Click “continue” and wait for the program to finish.
7. After it completes, reboot your computer.
Once the computer is back on, do the following steps:
WARNING: This is will delete all of your printers.
1. Go into “System Preferences” and then select either “Print & Scan” or "Print & Fax".
2. Right click (or control + click) on the rectangle listing your printers and then select “Reset Printing System”.
After you have reset the printing system, let's make sure you have the most recent HP driver package installed.
You can do this two ways. First, check for any available HP Update's by clicking the Apple icon and then Software Update. If there are any updates available, they should show up here. However, if the printer is connected by USB, it will not show any available updates. The other option is downloading the drivers from Apple's website.

Once you have downloaded the driver package and completed the installation, you will want to plug your printer back in (if you were using a USB connection). After the printer is plugged back in, go into your print settings under System Preferences > Print & Scan. To add the printer, click the plus sign. You should see your printer listed here. If not, click "Add Printer or Scanner." Click the name of your printer and then click "Use:” box. Make sure that says the name of your printer and not AirPrint. If you are using the printer wirelessly, make sure that the printer "Kind:" is set to Bonjour or Bonjour Multifunction. Click "Add" down in the bottom right hand corner.
This will add your printer back using the most recent HP print driver available through Apple. Let me know if this helps resolve your issue or not. If it doesn't, let me know I will see what else I can do.

After upgrading to Mavericks my iMac does not see Sony camcorder in iMovie anymore. It still works on MacBook, so nothing wrong with camera or connections.

After upgrading to Mavericks my iMac does not see my Sony camcorder anymore. I tried the new iMovie as well as the old version 9.0.9, which is still in Applications. I checked the camcorder and connections in iMovie on my MacBook (not upgraded) and that still functions properly, so the problem does not seem to be in iMovie, old or new, or in camcorder and connection.
Anybody with the same problem or a solution?

I have a large video on my ipad that I need to transfer to my PC (a window 7). I could also use a windows 8 if that would help. But all of the applications I have tried do not see this large video (52 mins) even though they transfer smaller videos fine. The ipad will not let me trim the video, saying it is too large. This is true even though I only want to trim the original, and not create a new video. (Actually it refuses before it gets to the choice of creating something new or just eliminating something from the original). I have been to an Apple store, but the people there only could recommend that I try some alternate applications to do the transfer (Kodak EasyShare). I don't have much faith this will work. I think I have this application on an old PC, and it is not something I want on my new computers.
Is it possibled the size of this video just violates the transfer formats for files over USB? If so, I will just delete the video and move on. But the video is really something I wanted to save. I would be happy to eliminate most of the video, but the ipad will not let me trim it.
I also tried to import the video with Windows Moviemaker (free with W7). It also does not see this file, but works fine on the other videos on the ipad.

Looks like the screen is on it's just unresponsive and black obviously. Has anyone had this problem? I was updating via wifi right in front of my router and my computer.

Spoke to a "senior advisor" in the Apple TV department. Her suggestions: change channel in router to minimize/eliminate wifi interference from other users; move router away from any metal - i.e., DVD player, phone modem, etc.; keep router away from wireless 2.4 gH phones, which are "notorious" for crashing wifi routers. So she confirms that the problem is one of connection to router suddenly dropping out.
My own feeling is that none of these fixes will do the trick, because it seems pretty clear that there is a hardware component here - the timing of the drops seems like an overheating issue. It takes 35-40 minutes for the box to warm up enough for the first drop; then each consecutive drop happens quicker than the one before, as it heats up more. Each time it drops, its tiny brain gets a little more scrambled; last night it finally wouldn't start up again at all.
My suggestion is that everyone who is experiencing this problem, please call Apple tech support and ask to speak to a senior advisor in the Apple TV department. Make them aware of this problem!
