Max IDE 300GB and MSI 850 pro 5

Hi,
I recently bought a Maxtor IDE 300GB HDD for my MSI 850 pro 5 but the motherboard just recognise a 131GB HDD.
Where is the problem: the HDD (I can still change it) or the motherboard (too old for supporting that HDD)?
OS is MXP SP2.
CPU is Intel P4 2,8 GHz
RAM 1Gb
Thank you
Giangui

You may not need to have the IAA installed, the EnableLargeLBA patch would just do for SP2. Anyway now you've solved your problem, congratulations!

  • MS-6545 (MSI 850 Pro 5) - PVR-150MCE - Windows Media Center - Help!

Hi, I have a MSI 850 Pro 5 motherboard, which is actually my old system and I wanted to make a Windows Media Center PC from it. So I bought a Hauppauge PVR-150MCE TV-card and put it in. Now the motherboard does not boot with this card into it.  It doesn't even show anything on the screen: the monitor stays off...
It only beeps - one × long two × short. This means that I have a bad video adapter as I have an Award BIOS. Nonsence of course, it worked fine without the card into the motherboard.
I have a ATI Radeon 9600 video adapter. I wonder what's wrong? Does the motherboard see the TV card as a faulty VGA card while disregarding the real AGP card?
I use the latest BIOS. (1.07) Is there anything I should adjust in the BIOS settings to make my computer work with this TV-card?
Thanks for helping me out. (I hope)

You can try using a differant VGA card, possably it is the combination that is causing the problem.
I think it is the combination of motherboard and tv-card because other people have the Radeon 9600 too. And I can't find anything from google with search terms like pvr-150mce incompatible intel 850

  • Msi 694D pro and newer Graphics Cards

    Hello.
    I have a MSI 694D pro MB with 2x P3@1Ghz, 1.5Gb ram (2x512(pc133) + 2x256(pc133), a raid stripe of 2x120Gb WD hdds and a 400W PS running Win2k SP4.
    Problem:
I had an Matrox G400 w 32 MB ram and I bought a new GF 6200 card since now even tbs games are 3d and the matrox couldn't keep up.
The GF 6200 is agp 8x but it sais it works well on 4x.
When installed, windows will freeze at startup unless i deactivate "enable agp 4x" from bios, in which case everything works fine except i have NO 3D hardware acceleration...  Wich sucks since it makes the gf 6200 a rather expensive 2D Virge lookalike with 128mb ram...
I tested the gf 6200 on a different system and works fine, even on a agp 4x only board (a kt333 msi).
I also put in a radeon 9600 pro borrowed from someone and the results are the same... Win freezes on startup
After some investigations i found out it crashes upon loading "viaagp*.sys"
I tried the latest availeble via drivers and noting...
Does anyone have any ideea what to do about it?
Thanks alot for any possible information.

Well it's old... it was taken from the server along with the mobo...
It is a very solid design and quiet, even after years of work.
Should I buy a new PS?
To get a complete picture of how much power it is used in my box:
     msi 964D pro MB
     2xP3@1Ghz
     1.5 Gb ram - 2x512Mb + 2x256Mb (pc133)
     2x120Gb WD stripe
     two maxtor 120Gb standalone drives
     - all 4 hdds have add-on coolers
     1 x LG dvd-rw
     gf 6200 graphics card
     audigy2 zs audio card
     intel pro gigabit lan card
     usb2/firewire controller card
     1x system fan
... i guess this covers it, but... how come it works when i disable agp 4x mode in bios?
does the graphics card "power down" parts of the gpu?

  • Unable to boot with MSI X58 PRO-E and OCZ3P1333LV6GK

     Hi,
This is my first post in this forum.
I've had this system for about 6 months, and from time to time I kept having instant reboots and once the PC would never start, I think I've sorted that by first flashing an old MB BIOS and then the most recent.
Tree days ago I've had another instant reboot, but now the system stops/reboots when the coloured animation starts to appear above the "Loading windows" message. This happens with both Win7 32 & 64 bits and even with the windows 7 installation DVD !!!
I think I've tried all combinations of the other posts where the MB+memory was the same as mine.
Another strange issue is: the memory PN shown inside the BIOS (OCZ3G1333LV2G) is different from the label on the memory (OCZ3G1333LV6GK)!!
I've already tested with only one memory chip at a time, the result is still the same.
I've only got connected the following: Video board, 1 RAM chip, USB Keyboard & one SATA HD. No over clocking whatsoever !
What else do I need to do to finally boot to windows ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Paulo
    My System:
        Mobo: MSI X58 Pro-E, model MS-7522, version 3.1
        BIOS: 8.B
        CPU: Intel i7 920
        RAM: OCZ3G1333LV6GK (6GB)
Video: Sapphire Vapor-X ATI RAdeon HD 4870 2GB
        PSU: Combat Power CP 750W
        OS: Windows 7 32 & 64 bits

    Hi Henry,
    Thanks for the help.
"What are your RAM timings? Screenshot of CPU-Z Memory tab and SPD tab."
I've added a few screenshots of the memory, the SPD & CPU-Z tab, plus a MEM86 test with only on memory stick installed. It appears that the memory is OK... or not ?
"Do you have another video card you can try? Those Sapphire Vapor-X cards have been a problem for others in the past."
I wasn't aware of any problems with this video card, I use it mainly to send movies to my big LCD TV through the HDMI port. I don't have access to another video card, sorry...
I don't know what else to do, do you think it's the PSU ?
    Regards,
    Paulo

Make sure you have updated Acrobat X to the latest version 10.1.3.  They updated the PDF plug-in in 10.1.1:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/837/cpsid_83708/attachments/Acrobat_Reader_ReleaseNote_ 10.1.1.pdf#page=4

After i upgrade to lion and updated logic pro to version 9.1.6 stops responding when loading "Ryu Chords" it stops responding on certain moment, i tried to reinstall freshly and update to version 9.1.5 but problem same so at this moment version is 9.1.6. I tried 64bit too but no changes. And the thing is that i need studio and i need to sort this problem quick.
Please everybody if you had same problem give me answer or any idea what to do
    Thanks

The sample rate is not 128 or so, you probably mean the buffer size...
But the performance drop makes sense: switching between a 64 bit process and 32 bit doesn't come free: it cost performance and creates a jitter, which also either shows as performance lost or instability.
You really have to move away from outdated 32 bit AudioUnits, sorry. Ask the vendors to finally release 64 bit versions, it has been several years since 64 bit is available.

  • IntelliJ IDEA 7 vs JDeveloper 11g Pros and Cons

Here is a thread we can discuss what we like or dislike as a comparision between IDEA 7 and JDeveloper.
Surya De mentioned in the other thread that IDEA has exceptionally strong code editing and code analysis features. In my experience I don't find IDEA's code analysis any more useful than JDeveloper's. And it's details about the code editing that I like in JDeveloper and dislike in IDEA.
Some of the details I find annoying in IDEA:
Code Folding - IDEA seems to unfold when I don't want it to; IDEA requires a multi-step menu choice whereas in JDeveloper I just right click on the folding area and select the option I want.
Java Doc generate - I prefer the way JDeveloper lets me generate the JavaDoc stub for a method.
Light bulb - I'm not sure how to describe it but in IDEA a statement may be underlined and flagged as wrong or might have an option to change it or improve it, in JDeveloper there is a nice simple light bulb I can click on to access these choices, in IDEA that "light bulb" seems to be very elusive and I can't figure out how to get it to stay there so I can click on it (most of the time I end up just manually putting in the code rather than using JDeveloper's wonderful assistance).
In what way is IDEA's Ctrl+N different from JDeveloper's Ctrl+-? They both work equivalently as far as I can see (JDeveloper is a little too aggressive in trying to guess what class you wanted)
IDEA forces me to manually set the run target instead of intelligently trying to run the class I am working on. This could be a pro or a con, but I'm used to JDeveloper's style and thus I always catch myself running the wrong thing in IDEA.
IDEA is slow compared to JDeveloper.
IDEA is terrible for building a standard client application JAR file (JDeveloper does this very nicely with it's deploy profiles).
IDEA lacks "status icons" for version control, I find the slight color change of file names to be inferior.
IDEA's non-standard usage of the term "project" is confusing.
IDEA lacks the nice little "X" close icon for closing a file you are editing.
"History" comparison I find nicer in JDeveloper.
In IDEA if I have folded code I have to hover over the code itself (making for a lot of mouse movement) to quickly view the folded code (without unfolding it), in JDeveloper I can just run my mouse up and down the left edge where the fold icons are.

Code Folding - Simple you can set it up in the Settings -> Editor -> Appearance tab an select which ones to collapse by default. All you do is mouse over the folded area in the editor and it will show you without expanding, the contents inside it...until you click that then it will explode the folded area.
Javadoc generation - Never tried it. But writing comments is easy and you dont need to know any syntax since it gives you suggestions. You will see them in yellow or red in the error stripe bar on the right just like Jdeveloper.
Light bulb - Intellij has light bults also and its context sensitive. Sometimes if you write bad code it will highlight and make it show as yellow on the stripe bar on the right and if you click then you will see a light bult on the left with a suggestion to rewrite the code and it rewrites the code for you. You can set a profile as to what the editor should look for in terms of non-optimal coding. A quick example is if you have code like (Long[]) zoneIds.toArray(new Long[0]) Intellij would rewrite it as (Long[]) zoneIds.toArray(new Long[zoneIds.size()]) and give an explanation about how the previous would be using reflection and how this one would not. This is just a small example. There are literally 100s of settings for the code analysis tool.
Speed - I dont see any difference. I am running Intellij on Mustang the latest build. And so is my JDeveloper at home.
As for the other stuff you mentioned with the project and jar file etc I dont bother because we are using Ant. I can set up the ant build file into Intellij and just right click on the target I want. But most of all I like using command line better.
IDEA does lack the little x close icon on the tab for the file you are editing but seriously hit Ctrl F4 or just middle click. Thats a bit ridiculous for mentioning that.
Local History/ CVS History - I do like JDevelopers a bit better. But Intellij has more details. As in if you fired up debug mode and made some changes in your code it will mention that as an event in your local history and that makes it easier which JDeveloper doe not have.
'In IDEA if I have folded code I have to hover over the code itself (making for a lot of mouse movement) to quickly view the folded code (without unfolding it), in JDeveloper I can just run my mouse up and down the left edge where the fold icons are. '
Dont even know how to reply to that...I dont count mouse movement as one of my criteria...
You can right click on a file in Intellij, hit Analyze code and it will show you a list of things in the code that can be cleaned up/fixed/etc based on profiles you select. They can be anything from performance fixes to too complex if statements. Pretty much as if you are doing code review. There are tons of options. And you can see all the items that Intellij is suggesting to fix, right click and just Apply Fix and they all get cleaned up in one shot. You can do this to your modules as well.
DSM - Go to Intellij's website and look this one up. Really useful for analyzing your overall codebase and finding circular dependencies etc etc.
Also the code completion in the editor in Intellij is a lot smarter. I can use Ctrl Space for the regular thing that JDeveloper does. But Ctrl SHift Space does smart code completion which I find extremely useful when writing stuff like say...uh...SomeObject obj = new SomeObject(). I can just type SomeObject obj = n and hit Ctrl Shift Space and it will write the rest of of it for me. Also if the constructor requires some parameters and you have those parameters initialized it smartly sticks those in there for me.
Also when you are naming objects or variables with Ctrl Space it can put a Java Coding Convention compliant name for your object or variable so you dont have to think of one and its pretty cool. A lot of nifty little things in there.
Lets see Alt Insert shorcut is awesome for constructor, getter/setter generation and a few others.
Also Ctrl J is an awesome feature to have where there are code templates already in place and you can just have boiler plate code for iterating over array, writing for loops etc so you just select what you want and based on what variables are in place it will automatically write your loop structures, your try catch blocks etc for you.
Also Ctrl H is another feature I like that shows in a window on the side the hierarchy of the class you are looking at.
Theres lots of little gems in there that I cant thing of writing about right now.
I still dont understand 'IDEA's non-standard usage of the term "project" is confusing.' If that is a complaint it seems you are reaching!
Like I said. Intellij is superior in terms of usability with keyboard and its editor and code analysis. You dont need findbugs or PMD for that. Its better actually than them.
But thats it. I think JDeveloper in terms of the wizards and all that I like that. Thats why I use JDeveloper when using SOA, or doing quick prototyping. And it works seamlessly if you have a full Oracle stack. But if you are using Apache or other web servers Intellij makes it easy since you jsut configure the server in your IDE and it does the rest.
Also it comes with Hibernate, Spring, support and now Flex (Intellij 8) out of the box. Thats pretty cool. Very useful.

  • MSI X58 Pro Overlocking and Voltages

Hi guys new here in the forums i would like to seek assistance or some bios pics in overclocking Intel Core i7 920/MSI x58 Pro 3.2GHz-3.8GHz. what would be the correct voltage for the ICH and IOH(on default values and for the above-mentioned speeds). your help is much appreciated thanks in advance

Disable Spread Spectrum & Extreme Memory Profile in bios Cell Menu. Disable Overspeed Protection in bios Advance Bios Features-CPU Features. Since RAM speed increase with base clock increases, you will have to 'experiment again to get the RAM stable. Set Mem. Ratio to 5, Uncore Ratio to 12, adjust DRAM,  voltage & timings accordingly, set base clock to 166 or 167, leave all voltages (other than your RAM), on default. This should give you around 1660 RAM speed & 3.33G's, with Turbo, around 3.5G's .

Yes, update with the 8 series bios. That will enable SLI. Please, be sure to use the forum USB Flash Tool for the bios update.

    Hi!
Really, I don't think this could be a hardware problem since WinXp takes more than few minutes to install, and you did it, then you installed drivers and SP1. Why did you format HD in the other PC ? I would try a new install, taking out all not necesary stuff, leaving only CPU, memory and video card and formatting again the HD. for a clean install; then go adding the other hardware one by one, installing it's drivers and rebooting each time. Finally before connecting to internet enable Firewall to prevent Blaster Worm ( Don't know if still is going around ). One thing: Be sure HD is well connected and configured: Master if is a slave conected to same wire..etc.- If again you get an error, I would look for a faulty HD.  8)

Depending on the year of the MBP, the hard drive may not be considered a user replaceable item...but you can check the available 1 TB drives at good sources such as OWC, http://www.macsales.com they are great to deal with and have on-line videos showing how to do most installation tasks.
