Max number of repairs for MacBook Pro

Hi all,
I just wondering how many repairs Apple typical tries until a defect is resolved.
Are there any maximum numbers?
In my current case I had over a period of 2 month:
1) logic board replaced due to kernel panics
2) logic board and memory replaced due to kernel panics
3) display replaced due to dust below glass + logic board replaced due to unknown reason
4) AC adapter replaced - it simply died with a strong smell
5) back at repairs again due to screen flicker - probably again logic board an/or display .....
So it seams it's not going better. A solved issue raised a new one.
Are there any rankings how many things can be replaced in a MacBook how often?

Apple deals with repetitive-repair issues on a case by case basis — there are no published criteria for a decision to replace a machine rather than keep repairing it. That said, your machine's history is grim enough to warrant pretty serious consideration for replacement, I would think. But only Apple can make that decision; all we can offer here is encouragement to take the question up with Apple.
Call Customer Relations at 1-800-767-2775, explain the situation, and see what the reaction is. Have your serial number, case number(s) for previous repairs, and all relevant paperwork handy when you call. Be polite, patient, calm and persistent. Good luck.

  • HT5149 Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found. Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard

Hi, I still have problems reinstalling Final Cut Pro even though I followed these steps.
Reason why I have to reinstall is because I have repaired my Macbook Pro hard drive at a Mac Authorized Repair.
Short history of repair and my Final Cut Pro installation:
    1. Macbook Pro stopped working, sendt it for repair. Had the Final Cut Pro installed,
    2. Desided to try a MiniMac and recovered my backup with Time Machine, got the Final Cut Pro working.
    3. Got my Macbook Pro back from repair, did backup on this one as well. But this time only the files not the Applications.
    4. Removed the files as mentioned in HT5149. Didn´t find "com.apple.motionapp.plist" to remove though, but the others I found.
    5. When I try to install Final Cut Pro from App Store, it downloads the application as planned. But after download it won´t show in the Application folder nor in the downloads folder, nor will it start an installation prosess. If I pause the installation in App Store, I can see the Final Cut Pro icon in my Dock. (But, as mentioned, after installation it won´t show neither here or in the Applications folder).
Any suggestions on what I should try now?
Thanks for any reply, I´m in deep water here...

Sounds like there is a file you're not getting.  Never do a removal manually.  It's so time consuming and a pain.  There's a very easy and fast way to do this, safely, properly.
Get the free "Final Cut Remover" app from Digital Rebellion (dot com), use this to remove FCP X.
    Reboot the Mac.
    Download from scratch.
If you're not seeing FCP X in your app folder, run Disk Utility to Repair all drives.
If that doesn't help, try running Disk Warrior from Altsoft to repair the directories on all drives.

  • ZeroShock sleeve case for MacBook Pro is available...

In case anyone is looking for one, the ZeroShock sleeve case fitted for MacBook Pro is available at:
    http://shinza.com/productinfo.php?productsid=57
Although the manufacturer is Japanese, the product is apparently in inventory and shipped from their California warehouse.
I have ordered, but not yet received.
    Enjoy.

Ya the Biolithic is perfect for that application. I got one while my MBP was in for repairs so it's never been used. It comes with a screen protector, laptop bag, and peripherals bag. I can do $35 ($7 cheaper than if you bought from Biolithic) shipped, let me know if you're interested.
    Thanks,

  • Why there no more upgrade for MacBook Pro 17in ?

Why there no more upgrade for MacBook Pro 17in ?

The story I heard was that there wasn't enough volume of sales for Apple to expend the resources to develop the line further.  When the 17" MBP line only accounted for 2-3% of the sales, it wasn't enough to offset the expense to engineer it, stock it, support it, etc.  What they chose to do was to offer the retina display 15" MBP that supports the same resolution (and possibly higher) and at the same time reduce the number of models they have to support.

  • More GB for Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I bought a 15" Macbook Pro 120GB last month from
Apple.com. I do a lot of video editing and wanted to
upgrade my memory to 200GB. I am under Apple's
Warranty, however I am afraid of buying more GB and
installing it on my Macbook Pro myself. Is there a
way I can have Apple mail me a shipper box and send it
back to Apple to upgrade the GB? I am willing to pay
extra for the sake of having a certified Apple
employee do the install. Has anyone had this
experience or could offer me any advice on this topic?
    Thanks!!

I just had my MacBook Pro Hard-drive upgraded. As best as I could find out, for MacBook Pro's, you need to have an Authorized Apple Service Center perform the upgrade. According to them, the rest of the MBP is sill covered by AppleCare, but the new drive is not.
If you do the upgrade yourself, you WILL break your entire warranty.
I paid $130 for the labor, and my local Mac Repair Site did it the same day. I bought a Hitachi Travelstar 250GByte drive from ZipZoomFly.com then:
    - put it in a USB2.0 SATA case,
    - used Carbon Copy Cloner to back up my entire drive to the new one,
    - booted from the new drive externally and tested applicaitons for an hour,
    - then took it to my Mac shop to swap drives.
This minimzed the effort of the installer and maximized my confidence that everything would go smoothly.

It installed and rebooted three times, sot it's obvious it was intentional.
Usually firmware updates are for the hardware itself to fix things and to prepare for features of the next operating system.
You see, I have it too and I'm on 10.6.8 with a Early 2011, the reason I haven't installed it is because it's been constantly changing and causing people issues like this fellow.
    EFI 2.1, then 2.2, then 2.3 and now it's 2.7? LOL

  • Set up time machine for macbook pro on WD passport

how do I set up time machine for macbook pro on WD passport? I keep getting a message that the Passport needs to be erased but when I try to ease it it tells me it can't be .

    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.

  • DVD For MacBook Pro

    Hello
    I buy a Macbook pro 15".
    I loose my DVD (osx).
I can't install osx on my macbook pro because of i don't have the installation disc.
I try to buy another disc on apple store on reunion island, but, the DVD is only for PPC mac, not for Intel mac.
How can i do in order to buy OSX4 installation disc for macbook pro ?

You'll probably need to call Apple tech support for your area. They can sell you a new set of installation disks. I'm not sure what area would handle Reunion Island, but you can find a list of Apple phone numbers here, and perhaps you can find one that would seem logical. Reunion Island being, unless I'm mistaken, a French territory, you might have to call the French Apple support number.
    Good luck.

  • Itilities for macbook pro

does anyone know od any utilities (3rd party) that is available for macbook pro.. I have always used Tech tools pro or Disc warrior..but I saw nothing from them..any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe that there are any Universal Binary applications that yet support the drive repair etc taht it looks like you're looking for.
I think a lot of these apps are in beta and may be available soon but thats jusy a guess.
Depending on what it is you want to do there may be utilities for you but you'll have to be more specific.

  • What is the return policy for macbook pro in china?

I live in SuZhou, Jiangsu in China. What is the return policy for macbook pro in china? It's been 1 month and I got a main board exchange(repair).

You would need to return it to the Apple Online Store where you purchased it and it would have to be within 14 days. They may limit you to exchange only or charge a restocking fee.
