Max number/size of QT files on one scratch folder

Is there a limit to the number of files in one scratch folder? Is it helpful to partition a big drive like I would on an Avid.
Can't seem to find any limits in the manual.

I wouldn't partition the drives unless they are sort of slow and old... it just takes up space. In the old Avid days I had, you needed to do this to keep video files off the slowest area of the arrays, but that isn't much the case anymore because the drives are so much faster than they used to be.
There is no limit to number of files either, just limited to your storage space.

I never asked for line-by-line hand holding nor am I someone who wants others to write the entire code for me. Examples of previous scripts that perform similar or partial operations would have been a good way to guide a new user unfamiliar to this topic.

Identical files in one LR Folder...I did it...don't ask me how

I have all my 15.377 images in one windows folder but my LR folder tells me I have 32.045 images (number after LR folder name).
In Library view I see indeed exactly more then one image and they are identical in every parameter/names. Also the numbering of the thumbnails are from 1 till 32.045.
If I right click one of the identical images and select "Show in Explorer" all the identical images are from the same location and same file.....huhhhhh!!!???
Did I missed something?
And....how do I get rid of all the "dublicates"

When importing make sure you have "Ignore Suspected Duplicates" checked or this is what happens. LR will reimpor images.
Just 'Delete' in All images' or the Folder Without_Sending_to_Trash the extra copies. Or click on 'Already in Library' and select and Delete as above.

How to Unlock all folders and Files in One Main Folder

How do i unlock all files and folders in one main folder? This way I wouldn't have to do it over 1,000 times to fix my folders I imported from my external drive.

Open the Script Editor in the /Applications/AppleScript/ folder and enter the following:

J'ai actuellement environ 30 000 photos (200 Go) et environ 5000 de plus par an. J'ai 2 questions :
1) Depuis un certain temps, j'observe un ralentissement notable : lenteur au démarrage et à l'affichage du catalogue, lenteur à la reconnaissance des visages et absence de proposition, lenteur à l'analyse ... grande lenteur à la sauvegarde
Combien de photos ce logiciel (ou taille du catalogue max) peut-il supporter ?
si je commence à atteindre les limites, vers quel logiciel pourrais-je me tourner ?
sinon, changer de pC ?
2) Y a-t-il un moyen de sauvegarder uniquement les metadonnées, la liste des mots-clés ... il doit y avoir des bases de données quelque part , non ?

Il y a en fait 3 domaines logiciels différents à prendre en compte pour la vitesse d'exécution.
Commençons par la plus évidente : quel que soit votre système d'organisation, 200 Go représentent un très gros volume sur le disque, ce qui fait que de toutes façons vous aurez peut-être besoin de plus de 3 heures de sauvegarde. Dans une moindre mesure, le nombre de fichiers détermine combien de petites vignettes l'organiseur devra stocker et gérer. Avec 30 000 fichiers, vous n'aurez aucun problème (j'ai 49 000 fichiers et certains ont cité 175 000...)
Ensuite, la base de donnée elle-même et tout le travail d'organisation : albums, mots-clés, légendes, versions ou piles... Contrairement à ce que beaucoup pensent, elle est capable d'assurer des requêtes extrêmement rapides même avec plus de 100 000 fichiers. D'ailleurs il n'y a aucune raison pour que l'organiseur soit inférieur sur ce point à son grand frère Lightroom avec qui il partage le même moteur de base de donnée, Sqlite. Le nombre de mots-clés ou de personnes dans la base de données n'est pas très déterminant, mais il peut vous ralentir quand vous avez à sélectionner un mot-clé dans une très longue liste.
Le point le plus critique est l'utilisation de plusieurs fonctions automatiques éxécutées en tâche de fond de l'organiseur comme les analyses automatiques, la surveillance des dossiers pour de nouvelles photos ou la reconnaissance de personnes. C'est le point à surveiller en premier.
Sur le plan matériel, le plus important est la mémoire vive disponible. Même si PSE est un programme 32 bits, il bénéficie de beaucoup plus de mémoire sur un système 64 bits.
Pour votre deuxième question :
Sauvegarder votre catalogue sans les fichiers d'image. Rien de plus simple, localisez le répertoire du catalogue grâce au menu Aide / Information système. Copiez ce répertoire où vous voulez. Vous pouvez même vous dispenser de copier le fichier des vignettes, thumb.5.cache, puisqu'il est automatiquement régénéré s'il manque.

Max Datafile Size Oracle 9i

Hi There,
We have multiple tablespaces in our database and the recently we got a message that the size of a particular tables has reached 97% and it needs to be increased.
Now currently the size of that tablespace is 29GB and before increasing the size of this tablespace we would like to know if there is a limitation for an Oracle data file size or are there any performance issues or implications that we may potentially face with a single data file of 30GB in size.
This is the biggest tablespace in our system other tablespaces are max 12 or 17 GB.
I am not a DBA just working in the support role as a developer. Could you please provide some insight on above query.

I can't copy iTunes media files from one external hard drive to another.

Hi, I am running the latest iTunes and Mavericks software on my MacBook Pro. My iTunes library is stored on an external Seagate 2tb hard drive and it is almost full. I want to transfer the files to a WD Elements 3tb external hard drive and have made that new volume the destination folder for my iTunes library. However, even though I have enabled read/write on both volumes and made the iTunes media folders on both shared folders, I can't copy all the files from the Seagate drive to the WD drive. It comes up with an error message that says "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8058)". I can transfer files from my MacBook hard drive to the new volume, but can't copy files from the old Seagate volume to my MacBook hard drive; it makes the "boing" sound that indicates it is copying but nothing transfers. Files that won't copy include all music files, some video files and all podcast files. Some transferred with no problem. Any ideas out there?

both external drives came preformatted for Windows but I erased each and reformatted them for Mac before using them.
i made the destination folder on the new WD drive the new iTunes folder using Advanced preferences in iTunes.
my original iTunes folder on the first drive contained all my iTunes files, as that, also, was the destination folder that was linked via Advanced preferences.
If I download new content now with the new drive attached, iTunes has no trouble finding where to place the files.
in Preferences I have both boxes checked (copy files" and "organize") that deal with copying iTunes files.
When I first attempted to copy all iTunes files from one media folder to the other on the external drives, I just did a drag and drop of the whole iTunes media folder from one to the other while both were mounted on my desktop. It started copying immediately with no problems, but as it progressed it started skipping files, each time displaying the error message I reported earlier. that included my entire Music folder. When I open, for example, a season folder that contains files that would not copy, eg, Modern Family Season 5, the episodes that won't copy are there and visible but any attempt to drag and drop them into the correct folder on the new drive results in the error message. There is no pattern to it; it will choose some episodes from some seasons but not others, and no music at all.
when I look at the "missing" files in iTunes they have the small exclamation mark that indicates the file is missing, but when I locate it through iTunes it doesn't copy the file on the old external drive to the new one. It just plays it having found the file on the old drive.
originally I had to make the iTunes folder on the old drive into a shared folder using the Get info window after either a software upgrade or an OS upgrade (I can't remember which, it was several years ago). For some reason the upgrade changed the preferences of that folder to a Read Only folder and after researching the problem found the only way to keep using the drive was to make the folder a shared one. I can't remember why and I apologise for that but it was a long time ago.; I can tell you that at the time it was necessary.
thanks again for your time; I have a good working knowledge of iTunes and Macs in general so I truly believe I have done everything according to how it should be done,, but clearly I've done something wrong!

Messages missing from all sub-folders after deleted one sub-folder

I had a folder with sub-folders ... one of which had a large number of emails. I deleted one sub-folder because I no longer wanted it and any of the emails. Now when I go to another folder in that sub-folder, it only has one message ... presumably those received after I deleted the sub-folder. When I did a search on the "from" address, I see a large number of subjects but when I click on the subject all I get is the following:
"The message from xxx concerning yyy has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it."
Firstly, these messages were downloaded and secondly the account is online.
It looks like deleting a sub-folder deletes the contents of all other folders in the main folder. This is terrible and certainly not what I understood should happen. I saw another message about losing emails when an account is deleted, but I move all of my emails out of the account folders immediately.
I suspect I won't be able to recover these messages but this is very scary. Can anyone explain what happened ... and let me know whether it is possible to recover them?

I have fixed my mail folders so I thought I should document what I did for the sake of others who might have the same problem.
When I deleted the sub-folder, Mail screwed up the indexes for all of the sub-folders in the same folder. I used Finder to look at the folders and the mail items were there too. So I decided to try to import them back into Mail and that worked. It fixed up the indexes and everything is there. There were a few duplicate entries ... but that was easy to fix.
I'll report a bug.

Max number of file descriptors in 32 vs 64 bit compilation

Hi,
I compiled a simple C app (with Solaris CC compiler) that attempts to open 10000 file descriptors using fopen(). It runs just fine when compile in 64-bit mode (with previously setting �ulimit �S -n 10000�).
However, when I compile it in 32-bit mode it fails to open more than 253 files. Call to system(�ulimit �a�) suggests that �nofiles (descriptors) 10000�.
Did anybody ever see similar problem before?

On 32-bit Solaris, the stdio "FILE" struct stores the file descriptor (an integer) in an 8-bit field. WIth 3 files opened automatically at program start (stdin, stdout, stderr), that leaves 253 available file descriptors.
This limitation stems from early versions of Unix and Solaris, and must be maintained to allow old binaries to continue to work. That is, the layout of the FILE struct is wired into old programs, and thus cannot be changed.
When 64-bit Solaris was introduced, there was no compatibility issue, since there were no old 64-bit binaries . The limit of 256 file descriptors in stdio was removed by making the field larger. In addition, the layout of the FILE struct is hidden from user programs, so that future changes are possible, should become necessary.
To work around the limit, you can play some games with dup() and closing the original descriptor to make it available for use with a new file, or you can arrange to have fewer than the max number of files open at one time.
A new interface for stdio is being implemented to allow a large number of files to be open at one time. I don't know when it will be available or for which versions of Solaris.

Maximum size of XML files and number of IDocs for IDoc receiver adapter

We have an XML file to IDoc scenario where XI picks up an XML file with multiple Customer records in it, it does a simple mapping and creates one DEBMAS06 IDoc per record in the XML file. All IDocs are sent in a single file in XML-IDOC format to IDoc adapter which then posts the separate DEBMAS IDocs to R/3.
a) What is the maximum size of XML files that XI can handle with mapping involved ?
b) What is the maximum number of IDocs in a single file that the receiver IDoc adapter can handle ?
The first time this interface runs almost 200,000 Customer records will be exported in one XML file.

Well it is difficult to find out the maximum Size of xml messgaes that can be processed by XI and also Maximum number idocs an recevier Idoc adapter can handle.
This totally depends on your production system loads and the limits can be set totally on trail & error basis..
In my heavy loaded production system, i found out that the maximum size of the successfull messages after processing by XI is around 75 MB (seen in transaction SXMB_MONI). Whereas messages with size around 100 MB went into error.
I havent encounter any such limits with respect to Idocs.
I would suggest that you divide your data into smaller chunks and sent it part by part instead of sending it all once since you data size is huge.
You can vary your batch size as per your system load.

In my Macbook Pro finder folder under All Images, there are duplicate files, but one is small and the other is full size. I wanted to clean up the files, but don't know why I have two of everything. Any Ideas?

In my Macbook Pro, the Finder folder has duplicate images in the 'all images' file. One image is small and the other is full size. First question is why do I have two of every image? Why is one small and the other large. Do I need two of everything? If not, which do I delete?

Nearly all images are JPG with a few GIF and PNG sprinkled in.
I opened the inspector so I do get info when opening each image, but it a slow process.
It seems that one image is around 70k while its twin can be up to 4Mb which is what comes unedited from my camera. Sometimes there will be 3 or 4 identical images in finder, but when I open iPhoto to see what ‘s really in the file, I find only one image, and it’s full sized.
Are all these extra images, even if they are aliases, taking up space on my drive? And should I delete them? The info bar says I have over 10,000 images, which is rather a lot for what I do.
I am unable to add the file size on the view menu as it is grayed out. Don’t know why it’s gray, but having that info on the screen would save a lot of time and fiddling with each image.
I am trying to resize selected pix so I can upload them to e-bay, which requires less than 70k. I have looked at resizing programs but most are for PC platform and not Mac, so I am trying to resize in the finder window under tools. Tedious at best. Any suggestions will be appreciated

I just ran a test with iPhoto Library Manager, Duplicate Annihilator, iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner, Duplifinder and Photodedupo. I imported a folder of 5 photos into a test library 3 times, allowing iPhoto to import duplicates. I then ran the 5 photos thru resizer to reduce their jpeg compression but all other aspects of the file the same.
None of the duplicate removal apps found set that was reduced in the file resizer. That's probably due to the fact that the file creation date was being used as a criteria and the resized photo would have a different file creation date even though the Image Capture date was the same.
They all found the 3 regular duplicates and some of them would mark two and leave the 3rd unmarked. iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner can sort the found duplicates by file size but if the file was edited to get the reduced file size it might not be found as it would have a different file creation/modification date.
iPhoto Library Manage was able to find all duplicates and mark them as such if the file names were the same the the filename option was selected. Otherwise it also missed the modified, resized version. It allowed one to select the one photo to save before going to work on the library.
So if a photo has been reduced in image quality or pixel size it will not be considered a duplicate.

HT3669 I only have a HP printer and why I need to install a file for all the HP printers drivers 590MB??? if normally the size of my file should be 5MB. some one could me help to avoid installation of 590MB for my new mountain lion software???

If normally the size of my files in the for previous software was more or less 5MB why now i need to install 590?

If you go to http://support.apple.com/downloads and locate the HP Printer Drivers installer, you will find that it is 473.4 MB (for version 2.11). If you install this, it will install the full set of drivers for every model of HP printer that is supported by the drivers distributed through Apple. The disk space occupied once installed will probably be larger than the download, since the downloaded file is compressed.
On the other hand, if you have an HP printer connected and you use Software Update (or the Update tab in App Store), that should offer you a much smaller set of HP drivers, which are only applicable to your printer (and possibly a few similar ones). These updates are typically only tens of megabytes rather than hundreds of megabytes.
If Software Update doesn't offer you any HP drivers then it either thinks you have the latest drivers installed already, or the printer model is not supported by the drivers available from Apple.

How to set max-heap-size outside the jnlp file?

Due to bug_id=6631056 It may not be possible to specify max-heap-size within
the JNLP file for certain jnlp java applications.
Are there other possibilities to specify this Jvm parameter?
In the ControlPanel there is the possibility to specify Xmx for applets but not for jnlp.
I have tried to add properties like
"deployment.javaws.jre.0.args=Xmx\=128M" without success
