Max # of files in DVD-ROM?

I'm trying to burn a DVD-ROM with just over 100,000 .tif images, nearly all of which are 150KB or less. The total size of all of the files is less than 3.5GB. When I move the files to either a Burn Folder or to a blank DVD-ROM, I can only burn about 36,000 of the files. I do not get any error messages during the burn and I'm using Maxell DVD-Rs, which I've used successfully in the past.
Am I trying to place too many files on on DVD? Are there any work-arounds?

I don't know for sure, but try creating an "Images" folder in the burn folder and then put the files in there instead of directly in the burn folder.
Limitations on the root level of a drive are often stricter than limitations on its subfolders.

  • .PDF files in DVD ROM content

I am using a Mac and Encore CS4. I am trying to include a .pdf file as DVD ROM content. Whenever I try this, all .pdf files are "grayed out" and I can't use them. Adobe Acrobat Reader 9 and Adobe Acrobat Pro are both installed on the computer. I can read .pdf files outside of Encore.
    Any help would be appreciated.

To add to Ruud's comment. When adding DVD-ROM content (Build tab; about half way down), you cannot add files; you must add folders. But you can have anything you want inside the folder.
If you really want the file at the root of the DVD (i.e. not in a folder), build from Encore to a DVD folder without the file(s). Then use ImgBurn, add the Video_TS folder and any other files, then burn. I've never done this before, so I did a quick test (but I am CS3). Such a disk plays as a DVD in a set top DVD player and on a PC through wmp, and, on the PC, I can open the file from the disk.

  • Add image files to DVD-ROM

When using iDVD '09 to create a slideshow, I select the option to "Add image files to DVD ROM". As expected, my finished DVD contains the DVD-ROM Contents folder, and after digging down into a few more sub-folders I get to the original photos used to create the slideshow. So far so good. However, inside the folder containing the slideshow images there is another sub-folder that is always named "originals" which contains a second set of identical images.
This "originals" folder is only created when I use photos from the iPhoto library in my DVD. If the slideshow photos are sourced from a folder somewhere using the finder I do not get the the second set of images.
At first I thought maybe iDVD was placing a copy of the original unedited iPhoto images and a copy of the edited iPhoto images onto the DVD, but the 2 sets of images are absolutely identical as far as I can tell.
Anyone know why iDVD is placing 2 sets of images onto the DVD?

Just made an interesting discovery. I went back through some older DVDs looking at the DVD-ROM contents folders. On my older DVDs, the main set of images are all those used in the slideshow, while the "originals" folder contains the unmodified copies of only those photos that were modified in iPhoto. The "originals" folder could therefore contain the same number of photos if all were modified, less if only some of them were modified, or none at all if you didn't modify any of them in iPhoto.
So it would appear that iDVD is indeed supposed to follow the same "original" and "modified" structure of iPhoto in order to archive both versions onto the DVD. This is obviously the correct behaviour and is a very clever feature for Apple to include, but it doesn't appear to be working with the newer versions of iDVD.
The older DVDs I have where this has worked correctly were created on my old iMac with iDVD 6. All the incorrect DVDs I have with 2 identical sets of photos were created since buying my new MBP. I started off with iDVD '08 on the MBP and I'm now using iDVD '09. So there is either something wrong with my system, or there has been a bug in iDVD since the '08 version (suppose it could be an iPhoto bug as well).
I would like to know if anyone else has checked the DVD-ROM folder on their DVDs to see if the main images and those in the "originals" folder are identical. This would apply to iDVD '08 and '09 and only if you sourced the slideshow images through iPhoto. If I'm not alone then it would appear to be an Apple bug.

  • Files to DVD-ROM

Hope this makes sense. Here's what I am trying to do.
So I created a simple project recently in iDVD. No problems. It essentially has one movie clip - that's it. So far, so good. But then, what I would like to do is also have the ability to have DVD-watchers be able to download a bunch of images, if they put it in their computer. You know, "explore" the DVD, if you will, and drag/drop any images they want.
The only way I have seen to do this so far is to add all the pictures I want into a slide show (so essentially create another drop zone), and then select the "Add image files to DVD-ROM" option. That's fine, and it works - but I didn't know if there was a way to do that without adding the slide show.
    Hope this makes sense.

There's a nice option to add whatever files you choose to the DVD-ROM area using the command to Edit DVD-ROM. Here are instructions:

  • Adding H.264 Files into DVD-ROM Folder

    So here is the problem:
I have 10 hours of footage and I want it all on one DL-DVD that will only be used in Dell/IBM laptops with QT installed.
Here is where I am at:
I converted footage into 10 one hour H.264 files, and I plan to use DVDSP4 to create a DVD-ROM folder.
    Here is the question:
Is there any way to create a menu that will allow me to create chapter markers to open each file when clicked? I read about DVD@ccess, but this does not seem the way to go for PC users. And if there is no way to do it, should I just use Toast and make a data DVD? (not sure if DVDSP4 will do this). Seems silly to make a Menu to Just tell everyone to go back to the DVD drive and look in the folder for the chapter files.
    Thanks for any insight,
    Don

But i guess that's not exactly a topic for this forum. < </div>
It's not the topic is inappropriate, it's just not a direct function of DVDSP and, as you might guess, folks like me have neither experience nor patience with PC applications. That it can be done at all without using something like HTML amazes me. Thanks for the heads up on this technique, Chris, hopefully the OP will research it on his own.

  • Blu-ray says capacity too big when burning DVD Rom Folder Encore CS4

I have tried 3 times now to burn a Blu-ray Image file with a DVD rom Content Folder. The Blu-ray Image size is 45.90gb and the content folder is 1.6gb. The disk is a Sony DL 50gb Blu-ray. I have not tried to burn direct to disk because cost of Blu-rays. I am using Encore CS4. Is it that you cannot make an image file with DVD-rom for DL Blu-rays. Is there a number preset by Adobe for image file size for DL Blu-ray. Please help

45.90 GB on your hard drive and 1.6 GB on your hard drive add up to 47.60 GB.
In computer GB, (47.60 x 2^30) that's over 51 billion bytes. Sony and other blank media manufacturers report the capacity of their blank discs in normal GB (50 x 10^9), or 50 billion bytes.
Your project is too big to fit on the blank media that you have.

  • Photos stored in DVD-ROM section of DVD Slideshow

I have created a DVD Slideshow using 50 pictures from iphoto and I checked "Add image files to DVD-ROM" box. I have done this several years ago but am totally baffled as to to link these images to a button which will allow access to them from the finished DVD. HELP!
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   512 MB SDRAM, 800Mghz

    Hi cputzi
You can do this w/in DVDSP.
Did you already check out the iDVD Help Menu Procedure?
To create a slideshow in iDVD:
    1. Click Media to open the Media pane, then click Photos to display your iPhoto albums.
    2. Drag an album to the DVD menu. A button is created that links to the images. The button has the name of your iPhoto album and automatically displays the first slide in the slideshow.
    3. If you want to change the button label, select the button and type a new name.
    4. Double-click the button to open the slideshow editor.
    5. The slideshow editor shows thumbnails of the photos in the slideshow. Drag the slider to change the size of the thumbnails, so you can see more slides at once, or fewer slides with more detail.
    6. Add, arrange, or delete slides from the slideshow to create the sequence you want.
    • To add other images, drag files or folders from the Finder to the slideshow editor.
    • To reorder the images, select the slides you want to move and drag them to a different position.
    • To delete an image, select it and choose Edit > Delete.
    7. Click Settings and select the settings you want for the slideshow:
    • "Loop slideshow" makes the slideshow repeat continuously until the viewer moves to a different part of the DVD.
    • "Display navigation arrows" shows navigation arrows on the screen to indicate where the viewer is in the slideshow.
    • "Add image files to DVD-ROM" adds copies of the slideshow images to the DVD disc so viewers can download them to their computers.
    • "Show titles and comments" lets you add titles and comments to your slideshow images that are visible in the slideshow.
    8. Click the Transition pop-up menu and choose a transition to smoothly move from one image to the next.
    9. Click the Slide Duration pop-up menu and choose the length of time you want each slide to stay on the screen. Be sure to allow enough time for the transition you selected.
    10. To let the viewer advance through the slideshow manually using a remote control, choose Manual.
    11. Note: If you're adding a soundtrack, you don't need to set the slide duration.
    12. To add a soundtrack, click Media to open the Media pane, then click Audio to find a song in your iTunes library or GarageBand that would make a nice background for the slideshow.
    13. Drag the song or audio track from the Media pane, or from another location on your hard disk, and drop it in the audio well in the slideshow editor.
    14. iDVD automatically adjusts the overall duration of the slides to match the length of the audio clip. The slide duration is changed to "Fit to Audio." You can change the duration if you want.
    15. Drag the "Slideshow volume" slider to set the volume. You can check the volume when you preview the slideshow.
Note: When you add RAW images from iPhoto, the RAW files will appear in the slideshow as JPEG images. The RAW files are placed in the DVD-ROM portion of the disc if you choose that option.
    Hope this is helpful

  • DVD-ROM created in DVDSP does not show files in Windows

    Hello,
I created a DVD-ROM in DVD Studio Pro 4 with the purpose of having a working DVD and also have additional files in that same disk. It all works fine in a Mac; I can watch the DVD, and I can also access the additional files (one .pdf and one .mp4) from the Finder. The DVD also works fine in any DVD player.
However, when I put the disk on a Windows computer, I can only watch the DVD movie, but the additional files DO NOT appear in Windows Explorer. If I open the dvd drive on a Windows computer, there's only the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders, and nothing else.
Does anybody have an idea of what's going on here? PLEASE HELP.
    Thank you.

This is an m2v file playing on the windows machine. Of course I would have preferred to run with a mac, but the end display software does not run on a Mac.
Windows Media Player, using the commonly(?) installed Klite Codec Pack which includes and mpeg2 decoder, shows it as having a length of 6:38.
VLC will play it as well, but shows not timecode on a windows machine.
The whole movie is there and I can scrub until the end in WMP. In fact Windows Media Player will play it to the end. And as it hits the end, the timecode should show 10:00 minutes, but it does not, it shows 6:38. On a Mac it shows 10:00 minutes
The end movie is to play in software (Windows Samsung's Magic Info Pro) that loops when the end time code is reached. Which it thinks is 6:38. The only problem is that it loops at 6:38 of the original movie which is not the end of the movie.
Sounds like a relativistic spacetime problem.
Before I get slammed for asking Windows related questions -- I put this in the compressor forum to see if there was some compressor setting I was not enabling, or some tweak that I could do to make an m2v file windows friendly.

  • Idvd project with video and slideshow for dvd-rom file access

working on an idvd project with both a video section and photos in a few photo galleries. its' a slightly more complex project, but still only 2gb on a 4gb disc. After we burn (with all dvd-rom contents checked, and advance>edit dvd-rom contents shows photo files all there) the finished disc doesn't have files available in the dvd-romcontents! its' driving us mad as simpler projects are burning properly, with both photo and video files available. Could there be some kind of conflict occurring? does anyone have any ideas?!

    Steve,
It sounds like Windows Movie Maker Live was used. The regular WMM will Export to DV-AVI Type I, which will Import into PrPro much better.
I would recommend converting the WMA/WMV to DV-AVI, and Importing that into a DV NTSC (if you are in NTSC-land) Project.
Then, you would use Encore to do the DVD authoring. There are several ways to get the material on your Sequence into Encore. ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link) is probably the easiest way to do this.
What is your exact workflow from PrPro, into Encore?
What brand of blank media are you burning the DVD to?
This ARTICLE will give you some tips.
Good luck, and let us know a bit more,
    Hunt
PS - Multiplexing is the function of combining the Audio and the Video into one file. There are usually two choices, "None" and then often "DVD." For None, you will get two separate files - one for the Audio and one for the Video. With "DVD" you should get a muxed (combined) file. Actually, the separate Audio and Video is the preferred way, if one is doing an Export from PrPro, and then an Import to Encore. One would Import the Video into Encore as a Timeline, and the Audio as an Asset. In Encore, just drag the Audio file from the Project Panel to the appropriate Timeline, where it will snap into place.

  • How do I remove an attached DVD-ROM file from DVD Studio Pro?

How do I permanently remove a file that was once built into a disc image in DVDSP?
I have a project that I frequently use to author DVDs. It has custom menus already created. Each time I author a new DVD, I simply replace the .m2v and .ac3 that are in track 1 (along with changing drop zones, chapter menus, etc). At some point along the way I had also included an attached DVD-ROM file in the disc image. Now I can't seem to get rid of it. Even unchecking the box in the inspector and in the build/format menu, it still shows up on the .img. When I deleted the file from the computer, it failed to build the .img.
Specs: I'm using the 2009 MacPro listed below, but using FCS2 on a Snow Leopard partition of the startup drive.

    Never mind. PEBKAC.
I had multiple copies of the disc image open. The latest one was correct. Never author DVDs when low on caffeine.

    Hello Denise,
    Welcome to the Sony Community.
All of the Sony internal optical drives are plug & play with Windows so no drivers are required for detection in your PC. If you are having issues getting your drive detected then please try the following:
    • Ensure the Sony drive is set as a secondary master by itself. If you have another disc burner or a zip drive on the same IDE cable, please separate them.
    • Ensure you have the latest Service pack for your Windows operating system and any other updates for your system installed.
    service, storage support email
    • Please remove your secondary IDE channel from the Device Manager.
If the issue is still not resolved, service may be required. You may contact the Sony Storage support team by e-mail at: [email protected] for further information.

  • Mounting a Solaris x86 CD/DVD from a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive

    Greetings, all.
Is it possible to mount a remote Windows CD/DVD-ROM drive? I have the Solaris 10x86 Companion Software DVD sitting in a CD/DVD-ROM drive that's installed on a Windows server on my network. It is shared-out (F:) and the two servers can ping each other. I've also confirmed the NFS services/daemons are running on the Solaris x86 machine. I've tried the following variations but, all have failed to produce successful results:

I've also tried mounting it at bootup by adding the appropriate entry in the /etc/vfstab file but, this does not work as well. I've tried Google'ing for an answer to my issue but, I haven't been able to find anything that applies directly to what I'm reporting. It's usually chatter about mounting from one UNIX server to another. Any advice from the community would be greatly appreciated.

After three weeks, you deserve a reply. Windoze does
not natively support NFS.Also deserves a decent answer...
There are two ways to do this:
Install Microsoft's free "Windows Services for UNIX," which includes a Windows NFS server; or
Install the 'sharity' package (google for it); it provides Solaris systems the ability to mount Windows shares
