Max refresh rate Macbook PRO -- LG TV

Hello,
I am connecting my LG LN5700 TV with a max refresh rate of 120 Hz to my Macbook Pro via HDMI using the cables listed below. However, the display settings on connection only show option for frequency upto 60 Hz (and mentions NTSC in paranthesis). Any ideas why I am not able to access the max refresh rate ? The HDMI cable claims to support higher refresh rates. Could the mac_disp --> HDMI be the bottleneck ?

Not that I know of... for display on my LG TV, I used to use a Thunderbolt/Mini DisplayPort -> HDMI adapter. But I ran it through the HDMI on my Denon reciever and then to my LG TV. If you've an extra HDMI port on your LG, you could use the same adapter -> here.
Good luck,

  • Slow video refresh on Macbook Pro Retina 13"

I installed 10.9 and was doing fine, apart from the known GMail issue (now solved). But it has been two days now that my Mac has slowed down on video refresh:
(I use a second Apple Cinema Display 24" through Display Port, but it happens even if I unplug the second display)
    * when I change screen or call mission control, I can notice a drastic performance drop in the video transitions and the menubar flashes vigorously.
    * when fullscreen (for example in Safari) my menubar drops down very slowly and sluggishly.
I reinstalled 10.9 from the recovery partition... but it had no effect. Anyone experiencing this issue?
I haven't installed anything in the last two days. I might have updated the Flash plug-in, but I am pretty sure I did it a few days ago.

Just checked the following solution. Works for me.

  • Max Performance for Macbook Pro

I have a Macbook Pro, its the late 2011 13-inch edition. I was hoping to maximize the performance of my macbook by upgrading my 2X2GB RAM to either a 2X4GB(8GB) or 2X8GB(16GB) and also removing my optical drive and adding an SSD.
First of all, I am not sure on what SSD i should purchase? I am thinking either Crucials 128GB V4 or the 128GB M4? The M4 is SATA 6gb/s is that compatiable with my optical drive will i get the max performance or i'm i better sticking with the V4? As i hear the optical drive is resticted to 3gb/s
Secondly would it be a smarter idea to move my existing 500GB hard drive to my optical drive and buying the M4 and installing it in the hard drive space? As thats 6gb/s i think! I don't use much memory i have used about 20gb or something so far hahaha
Can everyone give me their views on whats best to get the max performance of my Macbook Pro and also whats the best items i could get for mac i have a budget of £150.

I want my macbook to be the best performance wise.. i am looking for faster boot up speeds and opening up a number of applications without any lag or lengthy wait time..usually i am running mail, safari, word, messages, facetime and either itunes or spotifiy all at once, as well as using software from uni such as unity, blue-j ect..

  • Max RAM for MacBook Pro 13-inch, Early 2011?

I have a 13-inch MacBook Pro (early 2011 model). The Apple page for that particular machine seems to say that the max RAM is:
    4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB
However, when I found the same model MBP on Crucial, the reccommended upgrade suggested was a 16GB kit (2 x 8GB SO-DIMMs).
Does anybody know which one of these suggestions is right? I obviously don't want to buy double the RAM that I need, but at this point I would quite like to max it out....??

    "4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB"
This means, Apple tested the computer with only 8GB memory.

  • AutoCad, 3D studio max with new Macbook Pros?

i need this for architecture school and just want to make sure bootcamp can handle the loads and does anybody know how the rendering is? faster? slower? same as pc? i am just would like to avoid pc if at all possible because i love my macs and prefer mac for adobe software and graphic design and photography work.
thanks and let me know if you need more info

Well I started this thread here

There's a lot of questions and answers in there, but the main point is that occasionally your license might break, turning the software into a 7 day trial, you have to email Autodesk for a new license. 2 main causes of this are the mismatch between OS clocks and/or booting up the system with different drives plugged in. Now, as long I have the same hard drives plugged in, when I run 3DS or Autocad it works fine.

  • Max refresh rates

    Hi,
I own a MSI Geforce 4 Ti4200 VTD and as I will soon get 3D glasses, I need to get the highest refresh rates it can give. My monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 900 NF and it can handles 160Hz at 800x600 or 132Hz at 1024x768 (these are the 2 resolutions I plan to use).
Unfortunately reading the spec of my MSI Geforce 4, it seems that it cannot handle the same refresh rates  At 800x600, it can handle 150Hz and at 1024x768 it can do 120Hz. I know the difference is not so important but as I plan to tweak the settings to their max (and it is really required for 3D stereovision), I need to know the exact max capabilities of the card.
What seem strange to me is that other Geforce 4 Ti4200 based card (such as the Asus) have MUCH higher refresh rate capabilities and can display at 200-240Hz at those resolution!!!!!!!!! And this is for the exact same chipset so I find this a little disturbing.
Do you know if the refresh rates indicated on the MSI manual (and on their website) really are the maximum refresh rates or only recommended refresh rates for any resolution? I cannot believe the MSI GF 4 Ti4200 can "only" do 120Hz at 1024x768........................
Will I damage the card if I go above these settings (f.ex use 160Hz at 800x600 rather then the "max" written 150Hz of the card)????
    Many thanks

I edited a 10 minute clip in the timeline.
I can only get a 30 sec export of a clip on my macbook pro. I am working with the project on a firewire drive. When I connect the firewire drive to my G5 and boot the project up it works fine and I get the full 10 minute video exported that I edited in the timeline.
Any help on this will be appriciated.

  • Dead pixels on 2014 refreshed 15" Retina MacBook Pros

I am a long time Apple user and I own a few Apple products including a White MacBook. Recently, I ordered a top of the line refreshed retina MacBook Pro through the education store and it appeared to have a few dead pixels. Sure the defect was very minor. Not noticeable for most people. But I am extremely sensitive to such anomalies. When I drop $3.5K+ on the absolute maximum configuration (15" rMBP, 2.8GHz, 1TB disk) that Apple has to offer on these notebooks, I expect ZERO defects. Anyway, I returned the rMBP to Apple and ordered a new one. It too had a few dead pixels. I returned that too. I was very frustrated. I thought about this for a while and suspect that it's because I bought the notebooks at a discounted rate from the Apple Education store that they are selling these "A" grade screens rather than the A+ grade ones. I have ordered a third notebook not from the education store. I'll see what quality display I get with it.
FYI, the first notebook had a LG display while the second one had a samsung. Both had very similar pixel anomalies. I would gladly pay full retail if I get a flawless screen as I'll be spending over 14 hours staring at it. For someone whose going to drop $3.5K on a notebook, $300 don't matter much.

  • How much RAM can my MacBook Pro REALLY take?

I want to max out my MacBook Pro. The apple website, and apple representative I spoke with on the phone told me that 8GB is the max. I have read that some people have used 16GB of RAM. The Apple representative refused to say that the MacBook Pro is compatable with 16GB.
Is it true that I can use 8GBx2 in my computer. If so, is it potentially dangerous? Why won't Apple say it supports it if it does?
    I'm using a 2012 MBP '15 2.3ghz Intel Core i7 (not retina)
    Currently using 4GB 1600mhz DDR3 memory.
    Let me know!
    Greg

Most importantly DO NOT PUT IN 1.5volt memory.
Your macbook air mid-2012 and on takes 1.35V memory.  Will it work with 1.5V?  yes and no, its known to cause issues, some serious.
MOST retail electronics shops DO NOT carry 1.35V memory.  Dont try to put in memory from there. Order it online or from the apple store.
Dont make a serious mistake that can cause issues and even cause a warranty issue if you place in the WRONG voltage memory.

  • What should my screen refresh rate be?

Hi guys, ive never really understood the refresh rate for screens. I have a geforce 4 ti4200, and my refresh rate is 60hertz, what should it be, or whats the best? Thanks sasarchiver

100 and more is the best for your eyes. 85 is the lower limit for "blindness".....  ; 60Hz is the lowest possible of your monitor and can harm your sight  when long-acting.
you have max. vertical and horizontal freq. of your monitor and a screen resolution (for example horizontal 1024x768 vertical)
so you will know the max vertical freq. by counting: (max horizontal freq of your monitor)/(vertical screen resolution)*(0,95)=max refresh rate
eg: you have max 110kHz of horizontal freq. and screen resolution of 1024x768
    so: (110000/768)*0,95=136Hz
this is the max refresh but the graphics cards sopports only 120Hz so you choose 120Hz in your graphics driver 120Hz for this resolution.

  • Macbook Pro - Noisy Fan ?

HELLO! I've just purchased a refreshed 15'' MacBook Pro at the Apple Store recently. I'm in love with it!
Just a few days ago, my MacBook Pro has been making these loud noises coming from the right side of the speakers. I'm assuming it's the fan because whenever I would run heavy programs like Photoshop and a few other programs the sound of the right speaker gets pretty prominent. And whenever the computer isn't running anything, you can hear a faint sound of that noise. I don't know how I can exemplify the sound of this noise... It somewhat sounds like when the MacBook Pro reads discs except I have to deal with this noise whenever I turn the computer on.
Please I need to resolve this problem as I don't want to make a 2nd trip back to the Apple store.
    THANK YOU! Love you all.

Unfortunately, there is no one here going to cure a hardware issue for you. You will need to get it looked at if it's a fan or mechanical issue, which it sure sounds like.

  • Battery life on Macbook Pro (3 hours?)

I just got this laptop. It's a 15.4" MBP. I installed Snow Leopard on it from the upgrade DVD (from Leopard). All is well, but the estimated battery life is around 2:30 - 3:30. I've had the battery on charge for days and the button on the left of the mpb indicates a full charge.
Is it some services that are running? Is the estimate just way off (I know they usually are)?
My brightness is 3 blocks from full. I have iTunes (playing), Terminal (no activity), Adium, MacVim, iCal, Firefox running. Does this sound accurate?

i have a unibody late 2008 w/c lasts about 2Hrs+ or 3Hrs max. is your macbook pro the built in battery?early 2009 and mid 2009 model?if so that doesn't sound right since the built in battery have 7hrs battery life "ideally" but reality its just 4-5hours. I've tested 3 of them already and all have same behaviors.(2mid 2009 macbook pro and 1 early 2009 macbook)
    Airport: off
    Bluetooth: off
    Brightness: 2 bars
    only running: safari and quicksilver
    no external device plugged in
    no CD inserted
have the latest battery update and firmware update
so yeah not a bug not an issue with battery but that's just how it is. Macworld already did some lab bench test on their own and so did the other mac fanatics. I just don't get why sometimes Apple says it will last 5hours if it won't.

  • Next generation MacBook Pro 13??

I'm about to buyt my daughter a new MacBook Pro 13 to replace her 4 year old MacBook and unfortunately I'm  not up on when Apple usually releases their next generation MacBooks and would hate to order her new MacBook Pro only to have a newer version released a month later.  I hoped those here who are up on when the latest and greatest MacBooks get released could tell me if there is a new generation in the works for release in the near future??
Thank you in advance for your replies :)

No one here would have any idea when Apple will refresh the MacBook Pro line. However, on average, the line has been refreshed every 267 days in the past(actual refresh varies, from as high as 309 days, to as short as 231). It has been 196 days since the last refresh. Draw your own conclusions.

  • Question about 17" Macbook Pro performance

So, I am able to get a new laptop soon, and money is not a factor. I was thinking of picking up a fully maxed out 17" Macbook Pro.
So what I was wondering.. how well will games run on it with these specs selected:
    2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM
    256GB Solid State Drive
I am completely unfamiliar with macs. I have never owned one, and I'm not sure how well this would preform in Bootcamp (Probably usuing XP/Windows 7 when it is released).
I plan to play some pretty graphic intensive games (Left 4 Dead, Demigod etc) and would really hate for them to under preform.
    Any help/advice would be awesome.
    Thanks in advance
