Max resolution for QT movies??

I have watched a few TV shows I have downloaded from itues via QT on both my windows machine and my ibook.
My Windows machine I use a 20" Apple Cinema Display and is powered by an ATI850XT vid card.
Since it is a 20" ACD the resolution is 1680x1050.
When I watch a QT show and try to go full screen, the video play back is very pixelated. It still looks a little pixelated when played back at small settings (double size).
However, when I play the same show back on my 12" ibook, at full screen it looks just fine.
Now my 12 ibook of course only has a max res of 1024x768 I believe.
So basically I want to know if QT can not play back at higer resolutions or is this purely a windows and QT issue?

I learned a little hidden secret.
I was watching my itunes tv shows on my ibook and it has an optino for "fit screen" which makes the QT player as large as possible while retaining the aspect ratio of the show.
On Apple OS, it is CTRL 3 to do this. Under Windows QT there is no CRTL 3 option listed.
However, if you do a CTRL3 the screen enlarges to the max size of you monitor while keeping the aspect ratio of the show (4:3 or 16:9) and looks great.

  • T400s max resolution for external monitor ?

    Hello
What is the max resolution for an external monitor connected to a thinkpad t400s  ? The reason i am asking is that:
    a) Intel says:  the max resolution of Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD is 2048x1536
    b) Lenovo says:  DisplayPort + D-sub dual-display output support 2560×1600 maximum resolution
What are your experiences and what maximum resolutions on external monitors have you succesfuly tried in real life ?
Would it be possible to connect a 30" monitor at 2560x1600  to a thinkpad t400s ?

i don't know and i never tried but i'm inclined to trust intel more than lenovo on this...unless the t400s has some beefed-up x4500mhd

you are talking about the FHD on the T510, this is slightly different to what the OP is asking.

  • Max Resolution for a QuickTime Movie?

I have made a QT movie and am trying to get it to play on my Apple TV.
I have set the resolution for 1280x720, but iTunes will not sync this to the Apple TV because it says the file is incompatible with Apple TV. I thought Apple TV supported 720p.
Can anyone please advise on the maximum resolution I can set for the QT to be viewable on my Apple TV?
    Thanks in advance.

I have a bunch of 720p30 home videos that I converted to 720p24 and 540p30 to compare.
What did you use for conversion? Did it have a frame "blend" option and if so, did you use it. Many applications (like QT) use a simple drop/add frame algorithm when changing frame rates.

  • What is the max resolution for external monitors from the intel hd 4000 graphics driver

What is the max resolution supported by the intel hd 4000 graphics driver found on the 13in MacBook Pro for EXTERNAL monitors?

OK so after doing much research... this seems to be the best workflow.
Bring HDV in to FCP as ProRes 422.
Edit show... add bells and whistles, etc.
    Export movie as ProRes 422.
Then for the client - ensure that they have latest version of Quicktime and download the Apple ProRes Quicktime Decoder (for mac or Windows). (It is assumed they have a decent computer to play back on.)
The client will then be able to play a movie encoded as proRes 422 and all will be happy.
As a back up a high resolution h264 file can't hurt.
Thanks for everyones input. We got there in the end.

  • Mac Mini max resolutions for 2 screens?

Hi all. I have the latest Mac Mini and I'm currently running a Samsung 24" at 1920x1080 from the Mini Displayport socket via a DVI adaptor, and also a second display at 1280x1024 from the HDMI socket via DVI adaptor.
I'm looking to upgrade the Samsung to a screen that's 1920x1200 resolution - I'm assuming the Mini can handle this slight increase but I can't find specs anywhere for this. Would it even run a 2560x1600 screen alongside the 1280x1024 one?
    Many thanks in advance.

The > Mac mini (Late 2012) - Technical Specifications doesn't clearly state what the maximum resolution for each output is.
Funny part is, that the Spec's for the previous Mac Mini 2010 and 2011 models does.
One would think that they are the same? Unfortunately that would be pure speculation and contrary to the ASC Terms of Use.
On that note: Your best bet might be to > Contact Apple Support and get some clarification.

  • Max resolution for 30inch display from a MacBook Pro

Hi - what's the max resolution I can drive a 30 inch cinema dsplay from a 15 inch MacBook Pro?
    Thanks

  • Poor resolution for Keynote .mov file

    Hello,
Just getting started with Keynote. I'm putting together courseware and will be using Keynote to support the presentation. I have several .mov clips I need to integrate into the presentation. I embedded a .mov file into a Keynote slide and then saved and exported the Keynote file by SHARE > EXPORT > Formats: Web Movie, Small.
While I'm getting the media to work, the resolution of the Keynote .mov file is very grainy.
Are there some settings to be aware of to get a clear resolution with a Keynote .mov file?
    Thanks for sharing your insights.
    Ramone

You've probably picked the lowest settings and therefor the lowest resolution!
If you go to the export menu and chose a higher setting or even tinker the custom settings to get the balance of file size / quality you want.
It may also be worth making the slide size smaller (in the inspector)so when you export it's not being downsized in the same way if you need a smaller video (height, width, not file size)

  • Max resolution for mirroring on Apple TV3 from iPad3

    Hello,
Currently we are Airplay-mirroring from an iPad3 to an Apple TV 2 which has an XGA projector attached to it. The resolution drops down to 720p.
Will we get a better resolution when we replace the Apple TV 2 by the 3d generation?
    tia
    chris

No, while video can be streamed at 1080p, mirroring is limited to 720p. This is most likely because it reduces latency. You can see the full specifications of AirPlay streaming under the "TV and Video" section of the iPad specification page: http://www.apple.com/ipad/specs/
    Hope this helps!

  • Tecra S2 - resolution for external monitor on NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600

    Hello! I'm new here ...
I have a Tecra S2 with Windows XP SP2 and graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600. Internal resolution (display of notebook) is 1024 x 768. Its work fine. But I work with an external monitor VGA with "DualView" function. It is a Samsung Syncmaster 940N.
It??s all OK (19", resolution 1280 x 1024), with my new monitor Samsng Syncmaster 203B don't work: The external monitor's native resolution is 1400x1050 but the maximal resolution available is 1280 x 1024. And so, using 1280x1024 resolution, will cause the image on the external monitor and text is not clear.
I cannot set the 1400 x 1050 resolution via Control Panel nor via NVIDIA -menu.
Graphic card drivers are updated to the last version on the Toshiba site. Graphic card NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is supported from my monitor Syncmaster 203B.
Max. resolution for external video of NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 is higher as 1400 x 1050.
I need to use this new monitor, can you help me?
    Many thanks in advance!

Unfortunately the Tecra S2 isn't capable to display the resolution 1400x1050.

  • 15" Max Resolution

    Hi
Im considering buy a macBookPro and I cand decide on a 15" or 17".
My main usage is development with Xcode so having a high resolution is important to see code, Simulator, traces, etc.
I see in the specs that the max resolution for the 15" macbook pro is 1440x900.
    1) Is this true for all 15"? Including those without *9600M GT*?
    2) If I plug the macBook to my PC's monitor (with a resolution of 1280x1024), can I get that resolution or *am I limited to 1440x900 regardless* of the monitor?
    3) How does *Dual display and video mirroring* work?
    Thanks a lot

The 15" MBP has a native resolution (internal display) of 1440x900. You can set it lower, but display will be suboptimal ('fuzzy'). It can support that resolution while simultaneously driving an external display at a resolution of _up to_ 2560x1600.
So, if you connect a 1280x1024 you can have your internal display at 1440x900 and the external display as 1280x1024 as long as you are using the external as an 'extended desktop', i.e. not mirroring. When mirroring, you see the same thing on both displays, and both displays are set to the same resolution, which is the lower resolution of the two displays. So in your case, if you have mirroring on, the external and the internal would be 1280x1024, meaning the image on the MBP would be fuzzy and stretched.

  • Max resolution and format for Apple TV from imovie and itunes

I use iMovie '09 to make movies from my HD 1920x1080P camera that I SHARE to mobile me, itunes and for use on Apple TV via itunes.
I am trying to figure out the max resolutions and formats.
If I SHARE from imovie with 960x540 it goes right into itunes and shows as an HD movie on the Apple TV
If i export from imovie in 1280x720p i can drag into and play from itunes however it doesnt show up on the Apple TV? i thought the apple TV supported 720p? is the format wrong? when you export it comes out as .mov and when you SHARE it comes out as .mp4?

I have been struggling with this for some time. We have great HD cameras, and fairly capable consumer grade video editing capability with iMovie; but we have limited HD viewing opportunities other than a computer.
Apple TV does play it in 720p provided you meet the specs below - perhaps your 720p movie exceeded these specs. You see, there is 720p, and then there is 720p with serious Mbps.
At least for me, when I export at 720p @ 5Mbps the viewing is jittery and not smooth. I guess it is too much processing, although it seems to work fine when it is a downloaded movie in HD, just not an iMovie production.
So, I just use the 960x540, which is clear and smooth, and wait for the day an improved Apple TV hits the market with the processing power to smoothly handle 720p and beyond. I have a big (100") screen, so I can use all the resolution I can get to keep that large of an image sharp.
The alternative is to use a Mac mini and route through HDMI to your TV. That does a good job but is more expensive (triple) the ATV.
    Video formats supported:
    H.264
up to 5 Mbps, Progressive Main Profile (CAVLC) with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution 1280x720 @ 24fps, 960x540 @ 30fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats
    MPEG 4:
    • up to 3 Mbps, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps (maximum resolution 720x432 @ 30 fps) in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file format

  • I am unable to play a downloaded HD movie from iTunes. SD movies play OK. An error popped up saying something about the display not suitable for HD movies but now all I get is a blank window. I have tried changing the display resolution to no avail.

I have sownloaded an HD movie from iTunes store and when I attempted to play it on my Windows 7 PC a error message popped up saying something about the display not being compatible for HD movies. I have tried changing the display resolution several times but it didn't help. Now it just comes up with a blank screen when I attempt to play it. SD movies work fine. I have the latest version of iTunes installed.
Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

Apparently the display is required to be HDCP compatible to view HD movies in iTunes. My display isn't so this is my problem. I contacted Apple support and they have agreed to credit me for the HD movie and I have now downloaded the SD version.
