MAX settings do not stick

Hi - I'm trying to use FTDI drivers to simulate a COM port from an USB connection. Most WinXP SP2 or 3 machines have no problem, but I have one machine where having run MAX to ensure correct port operation, on quit and relaunch MAX shows a port conflict. This can be cleared with the available controls, but recurs the next time MAX is started. The settings do not stick. The subsystem (a TTi QL355TP power supply) does not see the communication either on this machine, and is OK on the others.
Environment: LV 8.2.1, MAX 4.1 or 4.2.1 . Would prefer not to upgrade LV to more recent version at this stage. LV 8.2.1 re-installed.
Any help or nudges much appreciated.

Thanks for reply. I can't obtain a screenshot at the moment, but the MAX display is a standard diagnostic I've seen on other occasions. Select a COM port in 'Configuration', and the "Port Settings' tab at the bottom has 'Conflict' added. The screen area above shows two columns of 'Settings', one from MS Windows, the other from MAX. These columns disagree in (for example) speed or flow control. Pressing 'Validate' aligns the two, 'conflict' disappears, 'Save' at top of screen appears to save correctly, and everything's fine. Except that the application this setting relies on still has a communication problem, and if you restart MAX the screen display resets to how I described above!
Re-install or repair of NI software does not fix it, nor does re-install of USB drivers. A corrupt data file on this machine would fit the observed evidence - are you able to point me to all the files that MAX may write? A corrupt MS Windows Registry entry might do it also, I guess. Do you know of any tools for checking or fixing such problems? The problem was triggered by a clumsy cleanup of installed NI software that was aborted partway through. The system is installed with a customer making a clean install of everything difficult and we are right at the point of having to write an unattractive workaround that uses a lower level serial interface to allow us to use NI Spy to eke out the required functionality.
Any help appreciated.

  • Photoshop and CS6 Epson Page Settings do not stick

I am using Photoshop Extended CS6 on a Mac with OS 10.7.4 and the latest driver for an Epson 7800 just downloaded from the Epson site. In the Print Settings dialogue "Page Setup" defaults to "Roll Paper - Banner" and any other selection such as sheet does not stick when saving a printing preset. Once selected, it appears to stay for one print, but returns to roll paper so that it needs to be reset with every print.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so, have you found a solution?
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Ed,
I noticed the same thing with the margins, however, as I use mostly large sheet sizes (I had the paper curl of rolls) that does not affect the lack of a sticky setting for "sheet" when I save a preset.
I had three conversations this week with Epson Technical Support. The last one being today with Ron who took control of my desktop and found out for himself exactly what I was saying. He then spoke to others in his department and came back with the response, "apparently this is an issue we are aware of and it will be fixed." "When," I asked. He didn't know and said to just keep checking for an update their drivers page.
Personally, I will not hold my breath. I would suspect that in the grand scheme of things, this bug is of very low priority.

  • Energy saver settings do not stick when set in system preferences

For some reason when I restore the default settings for the energy saver settings, the settings go back to a custom setting I set months prior of Display Sleep at 1 minute.
Here is what I am doing:
    Going to "System Preferences"
    Going to "Energy Saver"
    Pressing the button "Restore Defaults"
Everything goes back to the default settings of Computer Sleep of 10 minutes and Display Sleep of 10 minutes and I close the window out.
Problem happens: A bit later I come back to my iMac and wake it up, the setting is back to 1 minute of Display Sleep (which I did months ago, I no longer want that).
I have even locked the setting to prevent further changes. Which locks the settings in place like it should I believe. However, once the iMac sleeps and I wake it up in a couple of hours it switches back to the old setting I made months ago, 1 minute of Display Sleep, which I no longer want.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

i have the opposite problem... i would like to use custom Energy Saver settings but they will not "stick." instead they keep returning to the default settings. i followed the advice on this thread, thinking it might solve my problem too. but it did not. any suggestions?
i had one hunch - that it might have something to do with the file of same name but with ~orig at the end (see image below). should i remove the other file as well?
    thanks!

  • Mail printing orientation settings do not stick

    Hi Folks,
In Mail.app 3.5, when one wants to save a print preset to always print in landscape, or always print vertically, these preset settings are not being saved.
How can one set default print settings so that these can in fact be saved? To always print horizontally for example?
    Thanks!
    Doug

I figured this out and am pasting the answer, borrowed from another user on these forums, below:
Use an application that has Page Setup, such as TextEdit. Set the orientation to Portrait, then chose "Save As Default" in the Settings menu. That should reset it.
For future reference, the page format default is stored in /<home>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist
Deleting this file will also revert the orientation.

  • SD override settings do not stick

I've had my 2 HD DVRs for several months now, and believe myself to be prretty familiar with most of the settings and capabilities.
I have not been able to set the SD override to any setting other than 480i and have that setting retained.
In the video settings menu, for SD Override, there are three settings:
    (1) With SD Override OFF, the STB sends ALL CHANNELS (HD and SD) in 1080i (the SD channels are upconverted);
    (2) When set at 480i, the STB sends the signal for SD channels in 480i, and the HD channels in 1080i;
    (3) When set at 480p, the STB sends the signal for SD channels in 480p, and the HD channels in 1080i.
I prefer to set the STB to output 1080i all of the time (setting (1) above), since when the SD channels are NOT unconverted to 1080i, the STB experiences long delays whenever switching between SD and HD channels as the HDMI handshake has to be re-established.  When you have the SD channels upconverted in the STB, the output 1080i signals results in faster channels switching.
HOWEVER, whever I set the SD output override to 480p or OFF, it "keeps" the setting for as long as the STB remains on, and the next time I turn the STB on, it has reverted to 480i.
How can I make my SD override setting "stick" and not reset to 480i by itself?

I agree with you about preferring the SD Override set to OFF, and that is the way I have had mine set up for over three years. I have never experienced losing the SD setting like that, and I have temporarily changed it many times just to see what would happen, because a number of people have complained about it and I wanted to see if I could reproduce the problem. No luck.
    A few thoughts/questions:
    1) Have you tried setting it through the DVR hardware menu? Should not make any difference doing it that way, but then again....
    2) Do you have a home theater system? If so, is the HDMI from the DVR connected to it and then to the TV, or directly to the TV? I am pretty sure that many of the people that experience this problem have the HDMI connection to the home theater box, and for some reason are unable to get the home theater receiver to do the HDMI handshake to result in a 720p or 1080i agreement.
    3) Have you tried leaving the DVRs on? I do leave mine on all of the time, although in the testing I mentioned above I did turn it off also. But I reset the remote to turn on and off the DVR and the TV separately, primarily because I would fairly frequently get only one device to turn on, then I had to go through gyrations to get the other one on while keeping the first one on. Just a pain...and there is virtually no power savings by turning the DVR off, the electronics are basically all on all the time anyway.
    4) The DVRs default to a 480i setting for SD when the HDMI negotiation can't agree (at least I think that is how it works). Is there possibly any setting in your TVs that would affect the HDMI negotiation? I have never found one in my Sony TV, but every manufacturer seems to want to do things differently, maybe yours does.
Sorry I don't have any answers, but maybe some of the above will help.

  • Advanced Settings do not stick!!!

Why do my "Advanced" settings change or come unchecked!! It is getting quite annoying. I check the box to remove ALL emails from server "right away". days later, all of a sudden all the same emails from the morning come down AGAIN. I go to my settings and sure enough, the box is unchecked. What up with this??? Also, getting annoyed with the need to check mail again before it will allow me to send a new message. HELP!!

For the first problem, it sounds like there might be some minor corruption to the Mail.app preference file.
Regarding the second problem, does your ISP or email account provider require POP before SMTP authentication which means you must login and check the account's incoming mail server for new mail before you can use the account's SMTP server to send mail but this should only be required once per login session (without quitting the Mail.app) and not each time you send a message. Has this always occurred or a recent change?
To target the Mail.app preference file, do the following:
All account information is stored in the Mail.app preference file located at Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist.
Unless you have a backup copy of the preference file that is working properly, this will require re-entering all email account information.
With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail. Copy the Mail folder and place the copy on the Desktop for backup purposes.
Using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.mail.plist. Move the com.apple.mail.plist file to the Desktop.
Launch Mail and decline any prompt to import mailboxes. After re-entering all email account information the same as before, the Mail.app should rediscover the existing account named folder(s) and mailboxes at Home > Library > Mail.
If you have a .Mac account, the .Mac account information will be re-entered automatically. If you don't have a .Mac account, the email account you provided as part of the setup assistant will also be entered automatically. If so and you no longer use this account, you can delete the account from within Mail.
After confirming all mailboxes were successfully rediscover, you can delete the copy of the Mail folder and old com.apple.mail.plist file from the Desktop.
I've been using the Mail.app exclusively since Jaguar was introduced, thru Panther and now Tiger and although I've never experienced a problem with the Mail.app preference file, I include the preference file as part of my regular backup.
You only need to replace the backup copy after making any changes to account information or after deleting or adding a new account.
If this occurs again (which it shouldn't be a regular occurance), you'll have a good working backup copy of the com.apple.mail.plist file to replace the existing without having to re-enter all email account information again.

  • Custom Power Settings do not stick in Leopard

In the Energy Saver, if I specify any custom settings for power management, they will stick only so long as I'm actively using the "Custom" Profile. If I switch to any of the other built-in profiles, relaunch system preferences, and return to the custom profile, all my custom settings will be lost. Again, as long as I stick to only using the Custom profile, the settings will stick, but if I change away from it, they are all erased.
Is this a new "feature" with Leopard, or a bug? It should be easy for anyone to test. Simply go to Energy Saver, change any of the power settings, then under "Optimization", select any of the built-in profiles. Close System Preferences and open it again, reselect "Custom" under Optimisations, and see if your custom settings have been reset.

I also have this issue, but perhaps slightly different - when I wake my MBP from sleep, it will wake in only the Custom settings, no matter how or what setting it went to sleep in. Same goes for restarts - it will only restart in the Custom setting - it ignores what Energy Saver setting it went to sleep in.
I began to notice it after updating from 10.5.1 to 10.5.2 - the recent 10.5.3 hasn't solved the problem at all.

  • Fireworks CS6 settings do not stick

    Hello everyone,
I have some kind of a weird problem. I have crated a custom set of hotkeys and set it as standard. But every now and then after rebooting once or several times, Fireworks switches back to the last hotkey set I have used, ignoring my changes.
    Anyone else having these issues?
    I am on a Windows 7 64Bit system.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi there -
Just a thought but if you are using Adobe Captivate 4 then you could try exporting your preferences (File > Export > Preferences...) and then importing them again (File > Import > Preferences...)
In theory there isn't any reason why Captivate would not honor your custom Recording Mode settings. If you continue to experience issues then please make sure that you are using the very latest version of Captivate (Help > Updates...)
Failing that please report this issue to the Captivate team using the link I have included below.

  • Scrren Size Settings Do Not Stick

Until yesterday, my non-HD stations displayed in Wide Zoom mode. The picture filled the entire screen. That is the way I wanted it. Either I must have hit something inadverently on the Remote or Verizon congigured the STB differently because now , when I turn on the TV, the display is in Normal mode. My 40 inch TV becomes a 32 inch TV. I can change the mode by pressing the Aspect button (#sign) on the remote but whenever I change channels ,it reverts to Normal Mode and I have to reset it. MY TV is set to Wide  Zoom mode but FIOS appears to be now overriding it. It is impossible to speak to a real live person at Verizon.
The problem does not occur on MY DVD-VCR interface, NON- HD stations are always displayed in Wide ZOOM Mode.
My TV is a Sony Bravia KDL-40WL140.  1080p set.
I do not have the technical knowledge of most of you do  ,  so if you can assist me, please  keep that mind when giving a response.
My Sony 720p TV with a Verizon STB does not have this problem.

    Jerry,
OK, not being able to set the SD Overridet tells me that the Video Format setting in the DVR is set to 480i or 480p, not to one of the HD settings, 720p or1080i.
You do have an HD TV right? If not, I don't think there is anything we can do.
If you do have an HD TV, you need to go back into the menu, same path, except that instead of SD Override, you need to set the Video Format first, to either 720p or 1080i. You should try both, some people prefer it one way and others the other way, really just depends on your particular TV - there is no "right" setting except which looks best to you. Once you change the Video Format, you will then be able to set the SD Override.
I do not have an"RF something" entry in my guide. What model DVR do you have? I have a 6416, maybe the menu is somewhat different  on yours. But no, Verizon has not changed the system to require using the Aspect button all of the time.

  • Safe mode display settings not 'sticking' after restart?

    Hi
I used a display setting not supported by my Mac mini and consequently had a 'out of signal' error on my monitor and restarted in safe mode, logged in and altered the settings.
When I restart the display settings do not 'stick' and I get the same error. How do I get the settings to stick? Have tried logging in as administrator and user with no joy!
    Thanks Nigel

Hmm. Maybe that combination of changing resolution in Safe mode and resetting PRAM have a combined effect of some kind? Worth remembering for the future. Thanks for posting.

  • Adobe customization settings not "sticking"

    Hi
We are using ProSystem's PDFlyer program. Acrobat settings does not "stick" within the program. We tested adding other toolbar elements to quick tools, and changing Acrobat Preferences in the Edit
    > Preferences menu, and none of the customizations we made were still active the next time we re-opened Acrobat.
Other customizations within the PDFlyer program work just fine.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hello community,
it's amazing that the longstanding problem seems to stay down to the present day and neither Adobe nor admins found a solution for that. :-(
My plain intention was to enable enhanced security, preconfigure trust and lock down all settings. The best way would be to create a patched and transformed msi package of Adobe Reader 9 which can be deployed by Windows group policys. After applying the msp to the msi file I opened the msi in Adobe Customization Wizard 9 and made the desired modifications, in particular by adding a recursive folder in Privileged Locations Exempt. The test setup ran without any problems. To verify the modifications in Reader I checked it under "Edit / Preferences / Security (Enhanced)" and wondered why the exempt list still was empty.
In the Adobe "Enhanced Security and Trusted Locations" Guide there is specified where the enhanced security settings are stored in Windows Registry. At least the Privileged Locations Exempt entries should be stored in HKCU. I checked this up in registry of my test installation and found these entries in HKLM instead. So it seems that Adobe Reader would ignore these entries and it is expected that all settings are stored in HKCU indeed. But in that case the settings are only recognized if the user's interface is not locked down.
So my questions are: Did anybody managed it? How is it possible keep preconfigured settings and lock down user's interface of Enhanced Security Settings at the same time? Is it better to avoid using Customization Wizard and deploy the settings via reg files instead?
    Any responses would be appreciated.

  • IPhone Settings Not Sticking in iTunes

My iPhone settings are not "sticking" in iTunes. Also, all of my contacts have duplicates in iPhone and Entourage. However, they are fine in Address Book. I wanted to simply write over the database on the iPhone, but I can't get that to work.
Is this a corrupt preference file of some kind? How do I fix it?

I would recommend removing iTunes and Quicktime (and the Apple driver) and reinstalling it.
As for overwriting the iPhone, you can reset the sync history and check "PC overwrites iPhone" in the advanced section of the Info Tab in iTunes.

  • I am really pisssed off at two characteristics of Firefox 4: Size and position do not stick, and view menu selections do not stick from one use to the next.

I am really pissed off at two characteristics of Firefox 4: 1) Toolbar selections don't stick and 2) firefox window position and size settings do not stick from one use to the next.
The Bookmarks toolbar is the selection that does not stick, and Firefox, even though I set it to the size and position I want every time I use the program, always loads flush left, full top to botton, and about 1/3 of the width of the screen EVERY TIME it loads. These two characteristics are extreme pains in the ass.

This problem occurs on the Juno webmail site?
I assume you are doing something different than just correcting the squiggly red underlined words. How are you spell-checking the email: using an add-on or using a feature of the Juno webmail site? If it's an add-on, which one is it?

  • Mail port settings not sticking

I'm having trouble with port settings not sticking in mac mail.  When I start Mac Mail (v5.1, running in Lion) the program won't read mail in my iCloud account because the port settings are incorrect (port 143).  I click on the "Use SSL" box, which changes the port setting to 993.  I save the changes and everything works fine until I quit and restart the program.  The port settings revert to 143 and the SSL box is unchecked.  The issue, obviously, is that the changed settings are not being saved.  I deleted the iCloud IMAP account and reinstalled.  It reinstalled with the correct 993 SSL setting, but as soon as I quit the program and restarted, it reverted to 143, no SSL.  Anyone have an idea what is going on?

To solve the problem of mail port seetings not sticking required deleting the Accounts.plist in this mail directory:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist

  • UAC settings not sticking

I work in IT and many of our Windows 7 Prof SP1 32-bit PCs are suddenly unable to have their User Account Control settings changed (they get stuck at 'never notify'), and therefore, are not prompted for an Admin password when installing new software.
When I try to change this setting, logged on using my personal admin account, i can change it but on restart, the changes have not stuck. If the user tries to change it, when clicking on the "change user account control settings" the screen
    blinks and does nothing.
If I run a command line (my account has elevated rights as administrator)
    net user administrator /active:yes
    then
    net user administrator *
    newpassword
then restart the PC as local user administrator, it says "the user account is currently disabled and cannot be used to log on."
I have run the "fixit_kb978591.diagcab" and it didn't detect any problems.
THANK YOU for any tips moving forward!!

Yes, I can verify that our copy of Windows 7 is Genuine!
I ran that command but the UAC settings are still not sticking when I change them.
    * Staff have a multitude of issues all would seem to relate to their access on the PCs, such as unable to use new fonts as a standard user, when they have to be installed as local Admin, or running photoshop as a standard user, or being prompted for the
admin password when trying to install using a standard account.
    This problem hasn't always existed.
We are using Novell, ZENworks and Sophos - not sure if these play a role?
