MAX virtual device error

Hi,
I've managed to create a corrupted virtual device in Switch Executive. I think I did this trying to save a virtual device to a network drive using Max 4.0 (I now realise after reading this forum that this bug/feature is fixed in Max 4.1). Reading through the forum it appears several others have done the same thing.
However, the question still unanswered is..... how do we delete a corrupted virtual device in Switch Executive??? Trying to delete the virtual device using the normal menus simply raises an exception in Labview.
Do we simply create a blank mxs file (found in ProgramFiles/National Instruments/Max/Data/) or is there an application that can regenerate this file? Note that I've saved my desired configuration to a local drive successfully, so can afford to completely erase all the current virtual devices.
Regards,
Tom

Hi Tom,
As you already know, this issue appeared with MAX 4.0 and it is fixed with MAX 4.1. The previous workaround was to export your configuration locally and copy it manually to the network location.
It is possible that the crash might have permanently corrupted your mxs file system stored in the data folder. To restore a clean data folder follow the steps below: FOLLOWING THESE STEPS WILL DELETE EVERY CONFIGURED ITEM IN MAX (NISE CONFIGURATIONS, DAQMX TASKS, VIRTUAL CHANNELS). Excel needs to be installed to use this procedure.
1. Export the configuration to Excel using the NISE Excel example GenerateExcelReport.xls (Program Files\National Instruments\Switch Executive\Examples\Excel)
2. In the command prompt type (with MAX closed) : net stop mxssvr
3. Delete the MAX Data directory (Program Files\National Instruments\MAX\Data)
4. Reboot your computer
5. Import your xls file created in the first step using the example: ImportFromExcel.xls
Note: You may get an "Invalid resource name" error when you attempt to import your xls file. This will occur if Hardware Assets do not match DAQmx device names. Deleting the MAX Data directory forces your system to redetect all your DAQmx devices. All the devices will be reverted to default names, usually PXI_Slot_ or Dev_. If the Hardware Asset for any device differs from it's DAQmx name, simply right-click on the device under NI-DAQmx Devices to Rename it so they are the same.
The following two steps will allow you to export the configuration to a network drive.
6. Export the configuration to your local drive by right clicking on the configuration
7. Copy the exported NISE configuration from your local drive to your network drive
Let me know if you have further questions or if this does not resolve your issue!

  • NI Switch Executive error when attempting to add NI PXI-2566 switch to new virtual device.

I just loaded Switch Executive and am wanted to explore its capabilities. I have a PXI system that I am setting up. Currently I have PXI-2566 cards in slots 8 and 9.
    I was following the NI Switch Executive help documentation "Creating a Virtual Device" and attempted to create a virtual device with the 2566 modules and I got this error;

I had not loaded the "NI-DAQ 7" software that came with the 2566 switch card. I assumed that since MAX showed that I had version 7.2 of DAQmx that I was already up to date.
I received a new PXI-2532 switch, and when I got a "driver not found" error in Switch Executive when I tried to add the 2532 to a new virtual device, I had second thoughts on running the setup/install from the new discs.
After running the software install, I was able to add the 2566 switches to a virtual device in Switch Executive. However, the 2532 failed.

  • NISE virtual device causes LabVIEW exception error

I can't delete a virtual device because when selected it causes an exception error in LabVIEW. I'm running MAX 4.1 with DAQmx8.3. Do I need to uninstall everything and then reinstall to correct this error?
    kph

Okay here is what I remember...
I had MAX 4.0 installed on the computer (not sure of the DAXmx version but probably 8.1) and I went to export a NISE virtual device to a network drive. At that time MAX froze up and I had to kill it with task manager. When I reopened MAX the virtual device gave me a LabVIEW error when I selected it. I was able to rename it and replace it with a backed up version. I then went to delete it but MAX continued to lock up. I read in the discussion forums about the export to network drive issue and the fix with MAX 4.1 so I downloaded DAQmx 8.3 with MAX 4.1 and installed it. Afterwards MAX seemed more stable but I still get the LabVIEW error when I try to select the renamed (broken) virtual device. Also since this started I've been getting weird exception errors when I run my TestStand/LabVIEW code.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Why can't I install virtual devices in NI-Max with windows 7 and DAQmx 8.7.1

    Hi all!
I just got some new machines running Windows7 32 bit. The old ones didn't survive a fire, the DAQ devices were resqued. After I installed DAQmx 8.7.1 including NI-MAX I found out that my device (PCI-6014) wasn't displayed in the device section. The device was however displayed in the windows hardware section!!
I also wasn't able to setup a virtual device other than some RTSI-cable. NI-MAX version is 4.1.1.
I cannot use a newer version of DAQmx as I have to work with LabView 7.1.
Another machine, same windows7 and same DAQmx didn't give me this problem, so what could possibly be wrong? Can't use this machine as it has no high PCI slots in it....
    Regards,
    Ronald

I think you're right about that one, I should have upgraded every time when I got the new CD's. On the other hand, I developed some way in reusing quite a lot of my work. So I only have to update these vi's in order to get my programs running again I guess. The nice thing of it is that this would be the perfect opportunity to go through my work of the past 7 years and look what's really needed and what can be thrown in the bin.
About the LV7.1 version: You're right. NI allows you to use them besides your new versions. I think I've got to play a little around with my virtual machines in order to get multiple versions (and multiple DAQmx versions) running aside of each other. Lucky for me is that a lot of analysis is done after the DAQ has been done!!
    Thanks,
    Bye

  • Can multiple Virtual Devices use the same IVI Driver Sessions?

I am using Switch Executive 2.0 and I'm having problems creating multiple Virtual Devices.
I have created a virtual device on a development computer that has no hardware connected to it.  This virtual device uses specific drivers to simulate the devices.  The problem I'm having is that when I create a second virtual device and try to add the same IVI Switches as the first Virtual device, I'm getting the following error:
An error has occurred while attempting to access the device deviceA_ivi.
    Error -223116 occurred:
Internal Software error occurred in Switches software.  Please contact National Instruments Support.
    File name: .\source\mxsWrappers\tMXSObject.cpp
    Line Number 192:
    Status Code: -223116
    Can someone please explain why?

Can you please elaborate on how did you create those simulated devices? Namely, what does your IVI configuration look like? What does the driver session for the logical name look like? What's the software module? What's the hardware module? What is the driver setup string, and what is the simulation mode for the device in question?

  • "device error" at 99% burning bluray content to Phantom burner - any ideas? DVD works

Im am currently investigating PrE 11 after having PrE 5 and leaving out PrE 9 due.
PrE 11 is almost a pleasure to use, but I consistantly fail in checking bluray support.
One major lack of PrE 11 is that it does not allow to burn blurays to disk, wheras this option is available for AVCHD and for DVD - Adobe: why the hell did you do this?
So - I downloaded the Phantom Burner 2.0.0.0 which perfectly runs for DVD and AVCHD burning.
But when I "burn" a bluray on the phantom burner, it consistently fails with "device error" at 99%.
I included menues and removed them just to be sure whether this is the cause.
But: I can burn exactly the same footage as AVCHD in to folders as well as into a disc with phantom burner. Always in 50i 1920x1080.
The only problem exists with bluray - so I am in a deadlock - I cannot test bluray support.
    Any ideas?
System: Windows 7 Enterprise, 64 Bit, PrE 11 Trial.
    Thanks!

  • Zen Xtra (Nomad) - Unable to read from device error (have tried everythi

Recently, I've been having problems with my Creative Zen Xtra Nomad mp3 player. One day it started freezing and lagging massi'vely when I would enter nomad explorer. Now it's virtually impossible to drag and drop something from nomad explorer to my computer or vise versa (keep getting the unable to read from device error). However, sometimes I am able to get an mp3 or two after about 5 minutes of transfer time.
I have no idea why it is doing this. One day I'm transferring my data back and forth with no problem, and the very next day I am getting this freezing, lagging, and errors when trying to transfer. The only thing that changed was me formatting my computer in between it working and it not working, but I did reinstall the driver and nomad explorer once I formatted (I'm also using the same USB 2.0 cable, but it worked fine the day before, so I am pretty sure that's not part of the problem). I was using the mp3 player to store about 0 GB worth of data for when I formatted, and now I'm unable to retrieve virtually any of it. I've tried everything under the PC Connectivity link short of formatting the mp3 hard dri've (and that is not an option because I need the files). I took it to a friends house to try on his computer, but it acted the same way. I'm completely stumped. Is there anything I haven't ruled out? Also, I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2, and I was using SP2 before the format as well if that has any relevance.
Please let me know if I've left out any important information relevant to this issue. Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Edit: I'm having the exact problem as this guy, but I didn't seem to find any answers on his thread.

Never use MP3 players to store important data, or as a single point of storage for any data (that includes keeping a backup of the player's audio tracks). You can have problems like this with accessing the data, as well as simply dropping the player and losing the lot.
There are a couple of methods I've seen that have worked to retrieve data:
. Driver update - either update to the latest drivers, or nonsensically downgrade to the drivers that come on the install CD.
    2. Notmad Explorer - use the Xtreamer function in Notmad Explorer's trial version (which is free) to access the data and download it. It will be tedious, because I assume you have to download one file at a time.
As for your general problem, I would try using Creative's MediaSource instead of Nomad Explorer to access the player (people generally don't have good experiences with Nomad Explorer).
Also make sure you download the latest versions of the drivers (taking above into account), MediaSource, and the MediaSource plugin from Nomadworld.com downloads.
Once you have the data off (hopefully!) you might simply want to reformat it if none of the above hel

  • Delete a virtual device in a VI

    Hello,
By programming a VI, I can't delete a virtual device which exist in MAX configuration.
By programming in a VI :
I open a session to NISE on my system
Then I get a reference from the virtual device that I want to delete
Then with this reference I delete the virtual device
Then I close the session to NISE.
But when I open MAX the virtual device is still here (with this message there is a JPEG file of the diagram).
Perhaps someone can explain to me how to do ?
    Sincerely
For information I use : LabVIEW 8.2 and NISE 3.0

  • Getting "No Bootable device" Error Message

I bought my daughter a new Satellite Laptop earlier in the spring (April 10th) and am having an issue trying to get it to start. Its a C55D-A5120 (S/N XXXXXXXXX P/N PSCFWU-03H02X) and I'm having truble just trying to get help from Toshiba. I originally had registered the laptop when I set it up for her out of the box. I followed every step during the initial start up process but appraently the registration didn't take with Toshiba. The last 3 laptops I've purchased have been Toshiba due to boycotting Dell for their shady business practices with product support. I'll be buying another laptop in the spring and this could very well determine what brand I buy. I live and die by customer service in my line of work and expect "reasonable" service.
Today I called technical support and got the run around from a young lady who said it hadn't been registered but she could help me with that. Okay, good. Umm, no. She said she couldn't register it for some error widow that was popping up on her screen. She said she'd have to transfer me to the warranty department, Okay, good. Umm, no. Warranty was having some technical issue and it hung upon me.
When I originally set up the machine, I had made a full recovery disc but put it on a flash drive. Leave it to a teenage girrl to not be able to find something I said we hopefully wont need but remeber where you put it. That didn't work. Okay, get on Toshiba's website and followed the directions for accessing the recovery section on the HD. Pushing the zero button (either one- also the F2 key does the same thing) and the power button makes it start powering up for about 1 second nad then goes completely dead. Nothing. Without holding any keys, the Toshiba flash sreen comes up and before the Windows boot screen comes up, I get the "No bootable device" error message. It absolutely will not go past that using any method shown anywhere. This is with the a/c adapter plugged in.
The lady I spoke with couldn't tell me if the machine was under warranty or not. I was under the impression the hardware was covered for 1 year. Seems I have a completely dead HD but I'm not the expert. I did remove the battery, the RAM to ispect and clean the conductr strip, same with the HD. That's about where my comfort level ends for the hardware. I hate to spend $40 on a recovery CD if the HD is dead, I can't get into the BIOS to swap what it boots off of. That tells me I have a hardware issue, not a software issue. Is there not a Toshiba warranty service center that can honestly tell me what is going on with this machine?
Any suggestions? I've tried to include pertinent info here. I don't have hours to spend trying to get this fixed. What are my choices? I've been very happy with my virtually identical machine.

    Hi Peter,
    Thanks for the reply.
No, I had already ran across that page and tried that. It won't let me submit it unless a attach a file with a copy of the original receipt, and I had given that to my daughter along with the back up flash drive. I'm not 100% certain of the purchase date. The woman I spoke with wouldn't even tell me what the warranty coverage would be on that laptop. I was under the impression it was a 90 day software, 1 year hardware (for defects in materials or workmanship) warranty. She was so nice as to transfer me to a warranty department that was experiencing technical difficulty.
    Thanks again for your reply!

  • Virtual Storage Error Count report large number

    Hi,
I've win 2012 std with hyperv role on it.
i've setup a virtual machine with 1 IDE disk and 1 SCSI disk all VHD on local disk.
when i monitor the server with veeam one it report that the Virtual Storage Error Count in large (9) on the SCSI driver even if this drive is not loaded at all.
    why is that?

    Hi,
I've win 2012 std with hyperv role on it.
i've setup a virtual machine with 1 IDE disk and 1 SCSI disk all VHD on local disk.
when i monitor the server with veeam one it report that the Virtual Storage Error Count in large (9) on the SCSI driver even if this drive is not loaded at all.
    why is that?
I've seen this particular issue on several occasions as well as from various monitoring tools. Here is another thread concerning this same alert for a Virtual Storage Device Error Count with a value of 9, however, the source of the alert in this case is
the Hyper V Management Pack for System Center Operations Manager:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/operationsmanagermgmtpacks/thread/6f4248aa-ed66-4ae1-b767-8238efc2e162/
In each of these instances of the issue, there are a few environmental variables that generally seem to remain the same -
The affected VM's are Server 2012 or Windows 8 guests running on a Server 2012 Hyper V host.
The VHD's reporting the high Virtual Storage Device Error Count are using a SCSI controller.
    The disks are not pass-through disks ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2624495 )
In most cases the same value of 9 is reported for the error count metric.
The same error count value can be observed within Perfmon.exe on the host containing the affected VM(s) by adding the following performance counter for the affected VHD(s):
Hyper-V Virtual Storage Device > Error Count
The metric value for the affected VHD(s) can be reset by powering off the VM and rebooting the host server, however, this is often not possible in a production environment. Additionally, the error count value climbs to and halts at 9 immediately after the VM
is powered back on. I've observed this behavior in Perfmon.exe while testing ways to reset the counter and, in turn, clear the alarms from any monitoring tools. There do not seem to be any correlating events logged in the Event Viewer or cluster
events that would indicate that there actually is an issue occurring with the Virtual Storage Device.
Overriding the alert completely would not be ideal as this would cause no alerts to trigger in the event of an actual problem with the device, thus I would like to find a way to reset only this particular performance counter while both the host and the VM(s)
are powered on. Additionally, any information in regards to the root cause of this issue would be appreciated!

  • DVD Burn problem. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use"

    Hello everyone,
I initially had a lot of problems with PE8. However the nVidia driver update solved most of them.
Just thought it was important to report success as well as failure!
However one problem remains. I get the following error at the 96% mark while burning. "Device error - the target device isn't suitable for use". It is always at the 96% mark and the program is "compiling [something]" when this happens.
Having searched this site I notice that user rgferg posted a similar problem 13 days ago but was redirected to repost in a different place, but never did.
I have tried to burn a 1hr clip 4 times and every time I have selected the slower burn speed (8MB/s) as has been suggested. It seems that inferior media is a culprit, so I have bought some [quality] Verbatim DVD-R media to try in my Phillips SATA optical drive. I am sceptical this will work, but open minded nonetheless. I will give it a whirl when my computer has stopped capturing the VHS I am working on.
Each time the burn failed the disk was automatically ejected and the burn process had actually started and progressed perhaps ~40% or so.
This indicates to me that it is a drive sharing issue, rather than a media issue. Somewhere on this forum it suggests that I go through a 20+ step process and delete/disable every piece of software that can compete with Premiere among other things. IF I do this what do I burn with outside of Adobe? Do I have to get imgburn or whatever it was called? What if I like Nero? Nero 6 has worked great for me for 3 years.
So given I am willing to uninstall my old optical drive burning software, who out there can recommened commercial software that for them creates a painless Adobe burning experience with no errors or conflicts? Perhaps there is another solution that I did not see on this forum?
I am running Windows XP SP3. I have the latest nVidia drivers for my SLI GeForce 7600 GS cards. I have 3 monitors. RAID 0 SATA, 2GB RAM, Athlon X2 5400.
    Justin.

OK been working through the list of 20 things Adobe recommends to fix DVD burn error. No luck yet:
    system meets minimum requirements
Project size does not exceed disk capacity
successfully burned project to DVD folder -thus skip to step 8.
      8.   Using new blank media for burning
      9.   Try different media and DVD burners. Bought Verbatim DVD-R. Don't have another DVD burner. Adobe's supported burner list is VERY short, so of course mine is not on it.
      10.  Uninstalled Nero 6. Did NOT uninstall Acronis True Image workstation or Lightscribe. These do not access the drive unless I say so!
      11.  Have not yet disabled startup items and services. This will take a lot of work and will leave to last. Deactivated Spybot thus far.....
      12.  Disabled IMAPI CD burning COM
      13.  DMA if available already set. Haven't set this in BIOS yet. I already think it is, but will check next boot.
      14.  Updated DVD firmware
      15.  Already updated nVidia drivers
      16.  Don't have any other DVD drives to disconnect.
      17.  MPEG workaround. Will resort to if required.
      18.  Disable Autoplay? XP only has "prompt me each time to choose an action". I have set this for ALL file types.
      19.  Have NOT refreshed the DVD drivers in the registry. This step involves uninstalling PE8. Will leave this as last resort.
      20.  Visit forums to see if other have the same problem. Hi guys
So still working through some of the items above.
Can anyone direct me to advice on how to write the encoded files sent to the hard drive, or the VOB files that PE8 failed to burn to a disk? Will the former work with DVD menus?
    What a process.
    Stay tuned.
    Justin.

  • HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276 - new - Device error and Cleaning cycle issues

HP LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276 - this is a new printer a friend purchased at Staples. It connects WiFi okay and prints when prompted to but it then does a "Cleaning" cycle after every print job. It also displays "Device Error" at the same time. It has been powercycled as instructed and the error continues to reappear and the "Cleaning" cycle continues as well after each and every print job. My friend paid Staples to set up this printer to a new Acer Laptop and D-Link router he also purchased before he brought them home. He was told everything works fine .. they lied .. Laptop and router have no issues .. just the printer. The Laptop sees the printer okay and software is installed without issue. Any ideas why the "Device Error" and "Cleaning" cycle after every print job is happening? He is on the verge of taking the whole outfit back as Staples has not assisted him and instead directed him to download the manuals from HP. Any suggestions are appreciated

Have you tried a hard reset on it? I know you said you power cycled it, but a hard reset is sometimes different than what some people consider a power cycle.
Follow these steps to perform a hard reset on the printer.
    1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
    2. With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
    3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
    5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
    6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
    7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the power button to turn it on.
Try that out and let me know if it helps.
    Best of luck,
    Kyle
