Max write speed for CD-RWs with HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GH41N drive?

hey all,
I've had a look online, but I can't find the answer.
Does anyone know where I can find the max write speed using CD-RWs, with the HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GH41N CD/DVD drive that's in my Mac Pro?
Looking into getting some faster CD-RWs (10-16x), want to make sure my Mac Pro's drive can actually burn them at this speed first.
cheers
Sam

apparently, it can burn up to 32x speed for CD and CD-RW discs:

I'm looking for read/write speeds for my Macs, but I can't find consistent data. Does anyone know the speeds or know where I can look? I have three computers:

    Thanks,

I think the feature is called Voice Over, and I think it's now compatible with Reader:

How do I lower the write speed for burning a DVD?  It gives me no option!

Export the dvd as an image from Encore, then use Imgburn to make the discs. I usually export a dvd folder from Encore and then use Imgburn to create the iso and do the burning

  • Slow write speeds for Sandisk Extreme 16gb USB 3.0

I had high hopes for this drive after seeing it highly ranked in various USB stick reviews; however, despite the read-speed being as good as I had hoped (at about 200 MB/s), the write-speed is much less than I would have expected, clocking in at about 50MB/s.
I performed these tests on Windows 8, both by copying over a single large file and simply viewing the speed information windows provided, and next by using the "Flash Bench" software. The laptop has an Intel i7, and both my ports are USB 3.0, HDD speed is 7400rpm.
I then tried formatting the drive as FAT, NTFS, exFAT, but in each case the speed did not improve.
Why is the write speed so slow?

I was thinking, are my speeds actually that bad: I did some tests with crystal disk mark to compare with the results in a review  here. They get speeds like 195.7MB/s seq read and 61.65MB/s seq write, and they note that this is good. My speeds are actually more like 230MB/s seq read and 50 MB/s write, so it would seem not too far off theirs, and I think this test is reliable as it agrees with the 50MB/s I get for writing a file onto the disk etc. Are other people getting write speeds much faster than 50MB/s when they copy a file onto the USB? I should emphasise I have the 16gb model. It seems again from the review I posted above, that the write speed of the 32gb and 64gb versions is actually much quicker for some reason that the 16gb.

  • What is the Read/Write speed for a 250gb Serial ATA hard drive?

Hello. I've been having some problems via my Mac (Kernel panic at start up) and is thinking wether or not it is the hard drive.
Does anyone know what the Write speed is for the specified hard drive. I'm currently getting about 5 mbps and that feels a bit slow
I'm on a Macbook Pro mid 2009 model.
    Thanks in advance
    Ashley.

I haven't got the logs. I had to reinstall everything in order to get it to start up (Couldn't find ACPI?)
And I'm only asking because it seems like my laptop HD is running slow. Is it normally about 5mbps for a 5400rpm HDD?

  • Typical read/write speeds for Apple Raid card

I have 3 1TB Samsung F3 Spinpoint drives that I am using in Bays 2-4, coupled with Apple's Raid card. Before striping the drives in a raid configuration, I used Disk Utility to write zeroes to each of the disks individually, which took about 3 hours each (this works out to about 100 MB/s, which makes sense to me). However, the third drive, in Bay 2, took much longer than normal to zero (over 12 hours), so I suspected a defective drive. When I striped them using the Raid Utility program, I was able to create a volume and proceeded to test it using QuickBench. Extended Read tests in the 20-100 MB range were only about 30 MB/s. Is this normal? Shortly thereafter, my Raid Utility program encountered an error with the hard drive in Bay 4, which wasn't the same disk I had problems formatting. I took out that drive, removed the volume and raid, and set up Raid Stripe 0 with 2 disks. I am still encountering Extended Reads of about 30 MB/s, no matter if I have cache enabled or not. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I suppose I could select a block size other than 32 kB when I set up the raid, but I wanted to save time to see if any posters have other suggestions.
I know that the windows version of the drive makers utilities are recommended for surface scanning and mapping.
In the case of weak sectors, this is about all you can do.
I may be wrong, but I think Apple has a clause in their manual so that people will buy hard drives from them instead of 3rd party manufacturers.
I am sure that is part of it.
There is also the onboard ROM of the hard drive.
Problem with Apple supplied cards of any kind, is that they have a history of ROM manipulation.
Whether it be crippling (as compared to 3rd party equivalent), or keys to limit performance or compatibility, it is always a question.
I know I am not the only one who has bought their own hard drives for a Mac Pro RAID setup.
I'm sure you are not, and was just "crossing t's and dotting i's" in asking....
    BTW, I have 132 MB/s Read, 121 MB/s Write for 2MB-10MB blocks, avg 128 MB/s and 110 MB/s for 10MB-100MB blocks on a 2 drive RAID with WD drives in a 100MHz FSB system.

  • What is the max clob length for Forms 6i with most recent updates.

I am trying to determine what the largest clob is that can be handled by Forms 6i with the latest patches installed. I have searched the forum and the help files and have found a bunch of different answers, but nothing useful - nothing current.
I have a record that has a clob field with 28,213 characters (including spaces) or 9902 characters (without spaces). Saved as a text file, it is 29kb.
To read and work with the data in Forms, I have to set the DATA: Maximum Length to 110000, almost 3 times the length of the actual data. I can read and edit the field without problems.
    My questions are:
    1. what is the maximum size of data in a clob field that will work with Forms 6i and Oracle 10R2 database (Forms with the most recent update)?
    2. what is the Maximum Length - It certainly doesn't seem to be character. How do I set this - 3x Actual????
    Thanks for the help
    Glenn

In theory it should be 64k bytes. In practice its often a bit less than that.

  • What Max burn speed for DVD or DVD-DL?

    Hello,
How can I find out what recording speed DVD, DVD-DL or even plain CD's should I buy for my Macbook? .. Mid 2007 model, 2G's ram, Super-Drive.
I just don't want to go get 8x speed if the system is not going to be able to take advantage of it.

  • Max burning speed for iMac drive?

Internal SuperDrive is MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875
    Should I burn at 8x or 16x?
    Alexa

    Hi
In iDVD up to version 6 You can't set burn speed.
    In iDVD08 and 09 - You can
If You use Roxio Toast™ - You can
Apple Disk Util tool - You can set here too
If You don't select iDVD sets speed acordingly to DVD disk eg x16
As faster - as many write errors
I use x1 when able to select
On older iDVD I use DVD x2 disks.
    I would
    • Use iDVD to do a DiskImage
    • Use Disk Util tool or Toast™ to make the burn at x1 speed
Using iDVD 4 - then You need a Hack to make it able to do the DiskImage

  • Max CPU Speed for MS 6131 Ver:2

I have a computer that I'd like to upgrade (slightly) with a faster CPU...  I currently have a 550mhz PIII and want to know if I have room to put a faster PIII or Celleron or whatever in without getting a new motherboard.
The manual shows it has support for 233mhz and faster.  Chipset is Intel 82440BX AGP.  66.6MHZ and 100MHZ sclocks are supported.
    BIOs is award 4.51
If it matters, The current CPU is the old large brick (I Believe Slot 1).  I don't know if that means coppermine or whatever (pardon my ignorance).
Plz advise!  Thanks in advance for your help
    Thanks,
    Mark

I spoke with MSI and the fastest CPU officially supported is the 600MHz Katamai PIII.
If you flash the bios to a version that supports coppermine you should be able to get a celeron to run using a slocket card converter by setting the vcore manually to 1.80v but it could fail or even cause damage.

  • Encore CS 5.1 Write Speeds

Only one write speed (6X) is available, what happened to the others and how can they be recovered?  Have searched  forums and the internet, but no resolution was found so far.  Help is appreciated.  Thanks.

But just like many burning apps, it will only present those speeds that are possible, given the burner and media used.
No blank disks loaded, DVD format and output to disk, my bluray drive gives me only 6x as an option; my DVD drive gives a choice of 8x and 6x.
Set for BD format and output to disk, I can only access the BD drive and write speed is greyed out (with or without a disk in the drive).

  • Max speed for 645 ultra?

What is the max processor speed for the 645 ultra? The manual says can support from 1.5 to 2.0ghz and up. How high does the "up" go. Would I be able to get the new 3ghz processor when it comes out? Right now I have a 1.6ghz (overclocked to 2.02ghz) and want a higher speed...
