MaxDB versions released on Linux
Ls,
I want to install MaxDB version 7.6.0.35 on Linux 5.6 but i get an error: "MaxDB version 7.6.0.35 is not released. Released Min. versions are: 7.6.03.09 : 7.7.02.19"
I also have MaxDB database running on 7.6.0.35 on Linux 5.5. For this environment a Linux upgrade to 5.6 is planned. Will this coarse issues for MaxDb?
In the PAM i found:
released Database Version Operating System Date Status System Status Remarks
MAXDB 7.6 64-BIT LINUX REDHAT EL5/X86_64 64BIT 24.07.2007 Released
but the info does not go further then release level, nothing about SP level or build level.
And in case this is only a check during the installation where can i manipulate this check?(like adjusting oraparam.ini when installing Oracle 10g on Linux RHEL 5)
thanks in advance
Peterok, so i got it working (just sharing the info) by adjusting the control.xml:
in function checkForExtendedReleases(cdversion)
replaced:
if(row == undefined) {
installer.showWarningPopupOrExit("dbmodada.generic", warnText);
return false;
by:
return true
Installation finished successfully. Only afterwards i thought adjusting CDLABEL.ASC would have been enough may as well....
Big question now: is this a supported combination. I suspect it was nothing more then a check in the installer which was build in before RHEL5.6 was released....or something like that. Anyone knows? -
What is the latest prod. supported MaxDB Version w. SAP Content Server 6.40
What is the most actual supportet MaxDB Version when using with SAP Contentserver 6.40?
In PAM Page 5 (of the Powerpoint) the official Version should be 7.5.
In "install and Upgrade" NW 7.0 there is the "NW 7.0 Presentation - MaxDB Release 7.6.03" available for Download and the "MaxDB RDBMS 7.7.06 Build 10 - Windows Server on x64 64bit "
Does that mean, that the 7.7 Version is official supported for Production?
Searched the Notest but found no answer for that.
Ulrich
... half an hour later ...
just found MAXDB 7.7 Installation which suggest the 7.7 is the latest official supported.
could that be the answer?

I currently have a MaxDb 7.3 running and want to upgrade the database to the newest version. Do I need to go to 7.5 first and then on to 7.7?
Also, if I need to go to 7.5, where can I find an install pkg that has the graphical installation manager?
Thanks,
BobHello Bob,

Missing IDES ECC5 installation disk for SAP Kernel - MaxDB Version
Hi,
Our HQ sent us installation disks for IDES ECC5. We copied them all onto our server and started installation. The system is now informing us that it can't find the SAP kernel information.
I can only assume that we're missing one of the installation disks.
We're desperate to get this installed and it will take another week for our HQ to send through another disk. Does anyone know whether we can download this from somewhere? We have had a look on SAP marketplace but you only seem to be able to download the kernel for Oracle, MSSQL and DB2....no MaxDB.
Additionally, if there is somewhere in Asia we can download this, then that would be better as we are having internet problems when connecting to Europe and the US.
Thanks in advance!
TristanHello Tristan,
This is not the correct forum to post your question.
You was not asked about the database(MAXDB) kernel software.
You need SAP kernel software
-> Review the installation guides at service.sap.com/instguides ->
mySAP Business Suite Applications -> mySAP ERP -> mySAP ERP 2004
-> SAP ECC 5.0 ->
Installation Guides of SAP ECC 5.0 SR1
-> < Please see the steps 'How to Proceed' > ->
-> MySQL MaxDB
< Part I: Planning and Preparation
Part II: Installation and Post-Installation >
-> select the documents for the OS of your server.
And the document from the 'Part I: Planning and Preparation' you will get information that you need the SAP kernel CD & & what is the minimum required version & the reference to the location at the SAP Marketplace to download it, if you don't have the required SAP kernel CD.
< You could download the CD from service.sap.com/installations ->
Entry by applicataion group ->
Installations and Upgrades -> SAP NetWeaver -> SAP NETWEAVER->
SAP NETWEAVER 04 ->
Installation and Upgrade ->
< OS> -> < database > -> CD 'SAP Kernel ... <database><OS>.
SAP kernel software is database, platform, Unicode specific. >
In the 'Part II: Installation and Post-Installation' document you will find the the list of the required DVDs for the SAP system-ABAP installation.
-> Are you running the installation of the the 'Central Instance', 'Dialog Instance' or 'Database instance' ?
For the 'Database instance' Installation you need:
SAP Installation Master DVD
SAP Kernel DVD
RDBMS DVD
SAP Export DVD
-> What CD/DVD do you have for the installation?
< You could download the CDs from service.sap.com/installations ->
Entry by applicataion group ->
Installations and Upgrades -> Entry by Application Group
-> SAP Application Components -> SAP ERP-> SAP ERP 2004 -> Installation and Upgrade -> <OS> ->SAP DB >
You could also order the CD, if you have problems with download from the SAP Marketplace.
Thank you and best regards, Natalia Khlopina
PS: SAP Note 19466 will give you information about download of SAP Kernel Patches.

Download MaxDb Version 7.7
Hi,
Where can I download the version 7.7 of MaxDB for Windows?
regards
Weiss<...>- but I wouldn't use it for production...).
Interesting statement ...giving the fact, that certain products are only released for 7.7 (CRM 6.0, SCM 5.1 and especially MDM 5.5). Not saying that they don´t work with 7.6 - but the official release matrix is showing only 7.7.
It's merely the same statement that was given on the last MaxDB Info Day where the recommendation was given to stick to 7.6 for some further months after 7.7 will be generally released.
Especially for customers that use features like prefetching a change to 7.7 would remove the such functionality from the database, potentially leading to severe issues ( I know you know them ...).
That's why I wouldn't use 7.7 for production right now.
Besides that, it's my personal opinion and we will of course support everybody using 7.7.

MaxDB Systemcopy different versions
Hi,
I have a question regarding Maxdb and systemcopy.
We have an ECC 6.00 EHP4 System with latest MaxDB 7.8.0.1.20. The system was installed with Maxdb 7.7 and then upgrade to 7.8.
Now I want to perform a homogenous system copy with backup/restore method to a completly new system via sapinst.
Problem: SAPINST is not able to directly install the Maxdb Version 7.8. I can only use the maxdb software 7.7 which is delivered with the installation media.
Unfortunately maxdb doesn't support a database restore in a lower version than the source system.
How can I fix this?
Is there an intermediate step between maxdb installation via sapinst and the database restore?
Maybe we have to use the Installation Media of Netweaver 7.0 EHP2 which is delivered with maxdb 7.8.01.14 ? But the then we will have Kernel 7.20 ... and we have to downgrade the kernel to have the same state as on the source system.
There is a better way to get this target I hope ;o)
Would be very nice if someone can share his/her experience.
Thanks a lot!
BR,
AndreasHi Natalia,
unfortunately I have another problem now.
The MaxDB Installation and Restore was successful. But now I want to install the SAP CI. Distributed Installation but the CI is on the same host as the database, but we're installing with different virtual hostnames.
When SAPINST tries to check the database connection I get the error.

Seems sapinst is not able to handle that.
The dbmlic call is successfully when I trigger it from the console.
Do you have any idea?

Which version of MaxDB will be there with SAP All in One program
Hi All,
Does any one know what version of MaxDB will be bundled with SAP All in One program.
Regards
RajaHello Raja,
as far as I know, the SAP Business All-in-One Faststart program is bundled with SAP MaxDB version 7.6.03. Of course an update to the latest 7.6 version can be done.

hello experts,
I need to change the log mode which is in "overwrite mode"
currently. and increase LOG_IO_QUEUE size.
how can i do it.
our maxdb version is 7.6 and O/S linux 2.6.16
plz suggest steps .
thanks and regardsDear Kavitha,
-> Please review the SAP notes::

If you are SAP customer, you are able to read the SAP notes.
-> The MAXDB documentation also give you answers on the reported questions::
http://maxdb.sap.com/documentation/ -> Open the SAP MaxDB 7.6 Library
-> Glossary
"Changing the Values of Database Parameters" at
http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/9b/e6dc41765b6024e10000000a1550b0/content.htm

http://maxdb.sap.com/doc/7_6/84/d8d198570411d4aa82006094b92fad/content.htm
-> Please pay attention ::
"Automatic overwrite of the log area without log backups is NOT
recommended for production operation. Since no backup history exists
for the following changes in the database, you cannot track transactions
in the case of recovery. "
Run dbm command 'param_getexplain LOG_IO_QUEUE'.
May be the log devspaces can be moved to a faster disk, to accelerate the physical log I/O.
-> What is the version of the database? < Please also give the patch and build number >
Why do you need to change the log mode which is in "overwrite mode"
and increase the value of the database parameter LOG_IO_QUEUE?

NW04 + MAXdb testdrive on SLES10, startsap nw4host failed
Hi all,
i am trying this SAP's product, i have experienced some problems,
the first
the installation failed because the install.sh script set the wrong path to .cshrc of nw4adm
solution:
copy the dvd on the hard disk then modify the install scirpt
update_cshrc () {
do_redhat_specific
vv=`find ${installed_jdk_home} -name 'libjvm.so'`
if [ -n "$" ]; then
vv1=`echo -e "$" | grep 'server/libjvm.so$'`
if [ -z "$" ]; then
vv1=`echo -e $ | head -n 1`
fi
vv2=`echo -e $ | sed -e 's@/server/libjvm.so$@@g'`
vv3=`echo -e $ | sed -e 's@/libjvm.so$@@g'`
add_to_file "setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH \$:$:$:/usr/lib:/lib" ~nw4adm/.cshrc
else
echo ""
to-do error no libjvm.so found / inconsistent JVM installation
fi
add_to_file "# setenv LD_ASSUME_KERNEL 2.4.1" ~nw4adm/.cshrc
without this fix the nw4adm havent the library path in its environment and the install.sh was unable to create xuser.
but now i'm experiencing another problem, i cant start my testdrive
nw4host:nw4adm 7> startsap nw4host

How to migrate from ascii to unicode (MaxDB 7.5)? loadercli: ERR -25347
Hi,
I use MaxDB 7.5.00.26. (Ok, I know that I should switch to 7.6, however, it is not possilble for some customer restriction for now, but should be possible quite soon).
We'd like to migrate a db from ascii to unicode. Based on the infos in the thread "Error at copying database using dumps via loadercli: error -25364" I tried the following:
Export sourcedb
1. Export catalog and data
C:\> loadercli -d db_asc -u dba,dba
loadercli> export db catalog outstream file 'C:\tmp1\20080702a_dbAsc.catalog' ddl
OK
loadercli> export db data outstream file 'C:\tmp1\20080702b_dbAsc.data' pages
OK
loadercli> exit
Import targetdb
1. Create a new empty DB with '_UNICODE=yes'
2. Set 'columncompression' to 'no'
C:\> dbmcli -d db_uni -u dba,dba param_directput columncompression no
ERR
-24979,ERR_XPNOTFOUND: parameter not found
Couldn't find this parameter e.g. in dbmgui (parameters general, extended and support)
3. Import catalog and data
C:\> loadercli -d db_uni -u dba,dba
loadercli> import db catalog instream file 'C:\tmp1\20080702a_dbAsc.catalog' ddl
OK
loadercli> import db data instream file 'C:\tmp1\20080702b_dbAsc.data' pages
ERR -25347
Encoding type of source and target database do not match: source = ASCII, target
= UNICODE.
loadercli> exit
What is wrong? Is a migration from ascii to unicode to be done somehow else?
Can I migrate a db from 7.5.00.26 to 7.6.03.15 in the same way or should it be done in another way.
It would be greate if you point me to a post etc. where these two migrations are explained in detail.
Thanks in advance - kind regards
MichaelHi,
I can neither find "USEUNICODECOLUMNCOMPRESSION" nor "COLUMNCOMPRESSION". Could it be that there do exist from MaxDB version 7.6 on and not in 7.5?
Kind regards,
Michael

Hi,
I have a table with many LONG fields (28). So far, everythings works fine.
However, if I add another LONG field I cannot insert a dataset anymore
(29 LONG fields).
Does there exist a MaxDB parameter or anything else I can change to make inserts possible again?
Thanks in advance
Michael

It solves my problem. Thanks a lot. -- I hardly can believe that this is all needed to solve the bug. This may be the reason why I have not given it a try.

Since explicitely specifying all values for an insert is a good idea anyhow (you can see directly, what value the new tupel will have), you may want to change your code to this.

You are right. This table looks a bit strange. The story behind it is: Each crystal report in the application has a few textblocks which are the same for all the e.g. persons the e.g. letter is created for. Principally, the textblocks could be directy added to the crystal report. However, as it is often the case, these textblocks may change once in a while. Thus, I put the texts of the textblock into this "strange" db table (one row for each report, one field for each textblock, the name of the report is given by "ztb_nameofreport"). And the application offers a menue by which these textblocks can be changed. Of course, the fields in the table could be of type CHAR, but LONG has the advantage that I do not have to think about the length of the field, since sometime the texts are short and sometimes they are really long.
(These texts would blow up the sql select command of the crystal report very much if they were integrated into the this select command. Thus it is realized in another way: the texts are read before the crystal report is loaded, then the texts are "given" to the crystal report (by its parameters), and finally the crystal report is loaded.)

- MaxDB 7.5 Build 26 ?? Where have you been the last years?

The customer still has Win98 clients. MaxDB odbc driver 7.5.00.26 does not work for them. I got the hint to use odbc driver 7.3 (see [lists.mysql.com/maxdb/25667|lists.mysql.com/maxdb/25667]). Do MaxDB 7.6 and odbc driver 7.3 work together?
All Win98 clients may be replaced by WinXP clients in the near future. Then, an upgrade may be reasonable.

In the first MaxDB version I used, schemas were not available. I haven't changed it afterwards. Is there an easy way to "move an existing table into a new schema"?
Michael -

Hey,
I've installed SAP MaxDB Version 7.7.07.33 64 bit, and I'm having some troubles to connect to the Database.
1- The first problem : When I open DBM Command Line Interface (dbmcli) he ask for a server name which I don't have.
2- The second one : When I use SQL Command Line Interface (sqlcli) and I try
dbmcli -d MYDATABASE-u DBADMIN,mypassword -uSQL DBM,hispassword
I get always this : * -10709: Connection failed (RTE:Database name is missing)
I checked my database name, who is : MYDATABASE
I don't know where the problem comes.
Do you have any ideas ?
Thanks.I'm just trying to get the authorised user by typing :
C:\Program Files\sdb\programs\pgm>dbmcli -d MYDATABASE -u DBADMIN,mypassword user_getall

Do you know what that mean ?
